Can we have a thread on PlantFiles? I want to know if DG is in the midst of changing it and hopefully it will all get fixed.?

I notice today that

1. Names are not even above and below the photos anymore giving the photographer credit. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/389885/

2. There are ads all over.

3. Part of the picture on the bottoms are written over with the written description, effectively cropping them. At times ruining the photo.

4. I can no longer see the gallery of photos on one page. Now I have to click thru a small sliding photo line up of 4 or 5 photos maximum. And the photos are smaller. My eyes are older. I do not have time to look at each photo. I prefer to see the entire gallery and pick a few photos I want to see closeup.

5. No longer is the entire description of the plants characteristics visible. Or perhaps an ad cuts it all in half and I did not scroll down enough to see the rest.

Thanks for any insight you can give on what is going on.

Yes, if I turn off AdBlock I'm also seeing ads:
Resource Type Matched filter Third-party
http://partner.googleadservices.com/gpt/pubads_impl_65.js script /pubads_ Yes
http://tpc.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-2/html/container.html frame ||googlesyndication.com/safeframe/$third-party Yes
http://cdn.yb0t.com/js/yieldbot.intent.js script ||yb0t.com^$third-party Yes

Not sure exactly what all that means, but I'm seeing the 3 ads in the "Resource List" blocked. With AdBlock turned on, of course, I see no ads.

I see the name of the photographer and the date and time the photo was taken. I have AdBlock turned on and don't see ads.

Now there is in small font Photographer ID above the photo but I find I have been given crdit for all the photos under this plant name, not just the one s I posted. Example: below of a photo I did not submit but my name is above it.

I need to write a description under 2 of the photos on this plant entry. I am not sure if I neglected too when I first posted them or if PFs deleted it. But I see no where too edit my description anymore. Also see how short the plant info is.

I just now noticed the issues you describe, Kell, in numbers 4 and 5. I was viewing the page for Swamp Milkweed and see all the details, but that changes when I click on the little square that says "42 more photos View Gallery".

I agree with you preferring to see all the thumbnails at once.

I think the problem is with trying to make Dave's Garden more "mobile friendly". On a phone, the PlantFiles changes work better, but on a computer maybe/probably not. Many sites detect the platform of the user and change the format to accomodate. For example: m.davesgarden.com (for a mobile device) or just davesgarden.com for a computer. I also prefer the old format for working on my laptop, which is my primary use of the site. The new changes affect all views of PlantFiles whether viewing on a computer or a cell phone.

I suspected this, SallieKr, but didn't say anything. I used to blog at Wordpress and they became more and more unusable with a PC besides catering to a younger set. I ended up deleting my blog because it was too difficult. I gave it a lot of time before leaving, so I'll wait and see with this site.

This is what I noticed on my iPad, last week and i haven't tried it again. I was looking for one type of tomato but i was no longer able to look for 1, they were categorized under 3 different but huge categories. I googled it and found it on another site in just a few seconds.....I won't use PF, if it stays this way, I loved it before.

That's what I hate, when Plantfiles is not the best way to search. I joined because Google kept bringing me here. Now you can get almost better information from other sites. Being able to turn off the ads is the main difference now, it seems.

I'm not having issues with ads but it seemed like PF changed overnight. I used to click on tomatoes/peppers and click on the letter the cultivator started with. It was nothing like that,last time I looked. I didn't see it mentioned so I thought it was just me.

I miss that letter feature too, Lisa. Made it so easy to search.
