For paid subscribers - as of May 2, do you see ads in articles?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I have the problem on both Firefox & Safari.

I don't use Safari but tried it so that I could provide feedback. With both browsers, I see "login" as an option at the top of the screen when I navigate to an article, even though I am logged in before and after visiting the article.

When using Firefox to view an article, I don't see the adds, because I'm running AddBlock with that browser. With Safari, however, I do see the adds, since I have not installed add blocking software for that browser.

Not sure if this may be a factor, but while my Firefox is up to date, I am still running OsX 10.6. Snow Leopard, I believe it is. I haven't updated to a more current OS, because I've not taken the time to research the pros, cons, and features of newer ones, but have read disparaging reviews.

Still seeing ads and login when I click on the article.....I use Chrome on HP laptop

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

No ads here...haven't see any for about a month. We use IE.

BTW - on second issue...everything is nice and centered, but that's a problem we never had.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

I am still being logged out when I go to view an article. After I login, then I will stay logged in.

Northern, NJ(Zone 6b)

I still get ads.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I do too....

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks, all. As soon as I have an ETA for this issue to be fixed, I will post here. Until then, thanks for your patience!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

For those of you who are being "logged out" and/or are seeing ads when you view an article, our techs are asking you to try a different browser and see if that makes a difference.

We are not asking you to switch browsers permanently, only try it to see if we can narrow down the possible causes.

This is just for feedback purposes, not too rush anyone.

Today's article has disappeared from my home page again, BUT the good news is that as of this post I am now staying logged in when I navigate to an article. I even posted a comment on today's article just to check that I could do so.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Here are the folks who were reporting seeing ads and/or were logged out on that page (but not on the rest of the site.) Please report in with your results when you have tested with an alternate browser. Thanks for your help!

Well, I tried using IE- but, as DreamOfSpring mentioned, there is no Today's Article. On both IE and Chrome, I see the header but no article link.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Same here. no articles link on home page. On the positive side, if I go to the articles page (under guides), I stay logged in and no ads.

Frisco, TX(Zone 8a)

Same with me.see the header but no article.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Terry, it's the same with Chrome or Internet Explorer for me,

Ripley, MS

Safari is no different for me, still logging me out and seeing ads on the worm composting article today, will drag out my laptop to see what it does later tonight
Edited to say
got on with the laptop, firefox browser and it is showing ads and logging me out

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

It's still logging me out on Firefox on my desktop, and Chrome on my laptop. I haven't tried Safari on my phone because hubby left with the car, and my phone is in it.

(Sallie) Cherry Vall, IL(Zone 5a)

The link to the article is now back on my Home page, but still missing the title.
Windows 8.1 laptop
Chrome browser: clicking to read the article logs me out- AdBlock shows 4 ads blocked.
Internet Exploder (sorry- I hate that browser!): clicking the article *doesn't* log me out, no ad blocker installed and I see no ads.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I have the same issue when I switch to Firefox. However, Chrome is my preferred browser and the one I will be using. I wouldn't be switching back and forth.

Crazy as this sounds, when I click on today's article it still logs me out but again when I go back to DG I am logged in again. But, when I click on the fun random article it does not log me out.

Go figure.

Also, I just logged on on IE and no ads on either article.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I discovered something unexpected. I get this same behavior with both FF & Safari.

If I use the Today's Article link on my home page to navigate to the article, I am logged out while on the article page, and I see the adds.

However, if I navigate to the article via the Guides & Information menu, I STAY logged in and don't see adds.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks, DreamOfSpring - that may be a hint that we need. Can the rest of you who have reported this problem try this as well?

Click on the article from the home page. Do you show "logout" or "login" in the upper right-hand corner? And do you see ads, or not?

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I see "Log In" but I'm already logged in and stay that way. Don't see ads on the homepage.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

You are very welcome. Hope it helps.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

When I use the Today's Article link on the home page, I see the ads (and am logged out).

When I use the Guides and Information tab, I stay logged in.

Interesting.

That is what happens with me also Carrielamont....

Ripley, MS

If I go through guides, I am not logged out and no ads--Safari on iPad

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Click on the article from the home page. Do you show "logout" or "login" in the upper right-hand corner? And do you see ads, or not?

On iPhone on home page clicked on article and seem to be log in (head symbol) and no advert. Fingers crossed. Patti

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Just noticed something else about the problem.

When I use the Home page article link, I am taken to
http://www.davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2145/

When I use the Guides & Information Menu to access the same article, I am taken to
http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2145/

The latter, the address w/o the 'www' is the one that works correctly (i.e., I stay logged in). While viewing the article and logged in, if I edit the url manually to add the 'www', the page formatting changes a bit & I am logged out. If I then edit the url again, this time removing the 'www', the page formatting changes again, and I am logged back in. In this manner, I can swap back and forth between logged in and logged out while viewing an article. Lastly, I tried this with another article, one from a few days ago, and got the same behavior when I added and removed the 'www'.

Edited to add that you can use my links above to swap back and forth between the 2 versions of the same article, the logged-in version and the logged-out version.

Edited again to fix typo and clarify wording.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thank you - let's see if that's the clue we've been missing!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am still logged in this morning after using the article to trigger fix as suggested by Dreamsof spring. Good to have it back as I wander about garden and update my journal from my iPhone. Now to get jormal bugs fixed! But happy, very happy about staying logged in. Patti

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

The fix went away. I got logged out for no reason.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Patti, how did you access the article? From the home page, or this page: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/

(Sallie) Cherry Vall, IL(Zone 5a)

I'm not sure how it relates to the PHP programming, but my hubby (a Network guru by profession) says the difference between www. xyz.com and just xyz.com is usually a DNS issue. I'm seeing the same as DreamOfSpring- using the Home Page link I'm logged out, but going through the Guides & Information menu, I'm not... using Chrome browser. I didn't try it today, but I mentioned before that using IE browser I didn't get logged out when I clicked the Home Page link. Also, the Home Page article link is still missing the title, but the title appears when going through the Guides & Information menu.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I accessed it from the home page. Patti

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Hats off to DreamofSpring - the techs are pretty confident that you solved the mystery, and they are working on fixing it now that they know exactly where the problem is (soon to be was :-)

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

My hat is off! I did try that and it worked just the way she said that it would...or not. Perfect! DREAM OF SPRING!!

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'd sure like to be able to turn off the ads!

(Sallie) Cherry Vall, IL(Zone 5a)

Hopefully this is related to the home page Articles link and uses the same code so it will be fixed at the same time... I found another instance where I'm being logged out. I went to Guides & Information, Articles to read today's article. When finished, I clicked a link to a related "Recommended For You" article. When I did that, I was logged out. Same as the other problem, the URL was missing the "www" prefix.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Now Pretty Please, can you get Techs to solve the awful Journal problem that deletes what I have entered in the comment field when I try to edit an entry. The comment field goes blank (disappears), but still appears at top, however that will totally disappear if I don't copy and past it back in the comment field. I spent hours this morning fixing missing information about my spring orders. See below : Your Initial Comment: IS NOW BLANK I tried to take a screen shot, but couldn't get that to work of Journal entry. so I did a copy and past. Patti

mmmm, well...the www. isn't missing - we don't use it on the site. So if that is acting strangely, that is a different issue.
