my 2015 flowers

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Yeah probably. Plants are more resilient than we give them credit for. As long as the neck isn't broken off at the roots you should be fine.

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi emptyeyes, coleus root very easy Just put the broken piece in a glass of water and in a few days you will see roots ,then plant it in the soil.

Lakeview, OH

Is these the Coleus flowers that I read about? And will it hurt the plant to leave the flower on it? And this is a picture of the first rosebud that is starting to open, it looks bigger than the ones last year.

When you pinch of the coleus flowers the plant will send out new shoots and get bushy . Those flowers can go to seed too if you want to save seeds.

Lakeview, OH

Is this a flower getting ready to bloom? I saw this today.

Here is a picture of one of my amaryllis that I put outside for the summer, as you can tell, it is growing new leaves! It is the first time that I have done it and they have lived. The others I am not too sure of, the leaves were dying so I cut them off. This is the one with the baby, even he has new leaves, do you think it might bloom again while its out there?

I don't think it will bloom again. It's probably shooting new leaves because the other leaves got damaged or removed. They need another 3 months or so of sun before going into dormancy. Mine are in the office at work and look terrible because they are poorly tied up and laying all over. I keep thinking I'm going to take them home but never do.

This is the first bloom from the mystery bush around the iron pole, it has small white blossoms and smells really sweet. Could it be a Lilac bush? Here is a picture of the blooms. It took about 3 years before it bloomed.

Am trying something, I took some Salvia seeds and put on the potting soil that the tomato seedling was in, I tied up the chicken wire so the squirrels would not dig it up and the cats would not use it as a bathroom. Will let you know if it works out, it just rained here so the soil was moist so I did not have to moisten it. Let me know if you think I did the right thing with them. The neighbor down the street has some and they are beautiful, I can see why they are called Bonfire.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Any chance you can get another pic of those blossoms that's clear? It's hard to see but it could be a lilac.

Lakeview, OH

Here are my asiatic lilies, I just had one bloom last year, this year I will have 4, here are two of them for your enjoyment, and also my marigolds have started to bloom, one has a bud for now but it is going to be a beauty! 1. is the two asiatic lilies, 2. is the marigold bud, it is still small and hard to see but if you bring the pic closer, you can see it better, enjoy!

Awesome! Very pretty lily. I've stopped growing marigold as they just don't seem to do as well for me.

Lakeview, OH

This is the first time I have tried to grow them, and they seem to be doing quite well! I am going to thin them out this weekend, I just have too many in one spot and they won't grow well crowded for air,

Lakeview, OH

My amaryllis outside are growing leaves, all 4 of them, my marigolds are getting ready to bloom, and my tiger lilies are going to bloom too! Everything is growing good!

Nice lily Cytf. My first lilies are just starting to bloom now. I planted a bunch of lilies last fall.

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

This lily is about 20 yrs old , this is the 3rd garden it has been in.It was moved from home to home.lol

These are my delphinium seedlings, at first I had forgotten what I planted in the big pot by the gas shutoff pipe until I saw something coming up, they look like little maple trees sprouting, but I got on the net and they are delphinium seedlings! Please tell me I am right for once! Oh by the way all 4 of my amaryllis are sprouting new leaves!

I think I see one delphinium seedling, and the others look like maple or oak . Delphinium seedling leaves are more rounded like this one. I winter sow them too,but only got one , and last year I got two .lol, very difficult to germinate.

If I put my Coleus plants outdoors, will the critters bother them, they are getting too big for the window space.

You should be okay with your coleus outside.

Lakeview, OH

Ok, I will try a small one first, before I put a large one out.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Good plan!

Lakeview, OH

Is it better to try putting the coleus outside when it is cool or when it is warm? We are expericing some cool wet weather and I was wondering if it made any difference?

Lakeview, OH

I am trying something, I put two Coleus plants outside on my concrete slab in the shade, it is kind of breezy today but they are close to the house. They are the ones that stay green, they have no other color but green. May bring them in at 7 when I get ready to go to bed or not what do you think?

Lakeview, OH

Here are some of my marigolds, they are blooming and I transplanted some over to another section of the yard. These are the ones I transplanted today and the second pic is the ones that are blooming on the other side of the trellis closer to the street.

I think you'll be fine on leaving your coleus outside for the rest of the season. Unless the nights are getting below 40 degrees, you will be fine. Your marigolds are looking very nice!

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

I sow marigolds outdoors for the first time and I got very good results, will be doing them that way from now on. They sprouted very quickly and I transplanted them when they were about 6 inches tall .

I now have 3 moonflower seeds soaking in a medicine bottle with water, I knicked the seeds. Going to try to grow them indoors again, it worked last year so I will try it again this year, wish me luck!

Lakeview, OH

I planted several different morning glory seeds in the morning glory tower, and it is growing like crazy, I have had 3 blooms so far and they all have been Grandpa Ott. I had my hubby take the pics because my camera was not set to take purple, so here they are. They are smaller than the Heavenly Blue but pretty too. These like to hide under the leaves so I held the leaves away so he could get a clear shot. They are so purple they are almost black!

At last the large Scabiosa plant bloomed and the smaller type bloomed earlier

Nice morning glory and scabiosa! Back when I had scabiosa, sometimes they'd bloom well into December.

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

I was concerned if they sell seed because I have other plants coming up.Emptyeyes your morning glory is beautiful I have a pink one which give me a flower or two everyday.

Lakeview, OH

yes, they self seed that is why I like them. I don't really need to plant any, they will come up every year, although sometimes not in the same place that I planted them the first time. I also planted some moonflowers inside in a container and they are now sprouting! I hope I can get a bloom or two, I had to put them somewhere else besides the picture window it still has the BIG Coleus plants in there, so hopefully they will bloom.

Lakeview, OH

Here is a good picture of my tiger lilies this year, I think they are gorgeous!

Tiger lilies are beautiful, but do you find them invasive. I have them but I planted it Ina a container ,it has not bloomed as yet.

Lakeview, OH

I don't know if they are invasive, but the area where they are could use some more color so they can spread all they want.

Lakeview, OH

I have this growing in the same area that I threw my chrysanthemums out, can anyone identify this plant, it would be great if it was my chrysanthemums regrowing! Am I just hoping too much or is it really my mums?

The hummingbird vine has bloomed so beautiful this year, my neighbor who lives at the house on the back street came over to ask for a piece to plant in her yard.I have this plant for 8 years now and I am controlling it because it can become invasive but it keeps my rain barrel water cool.lol

Thumbnail by cytf Thumbnail by cytf
Lakeview, OH

how can you keep it controlled? Can you put a piece in a pot and still control it? I would love to have some but do not want it to grow all over the place, I would like to control its growth. I know the hummingbirds love it and it would be nice to see them going in and out of its blooms. Any advice would be helpful.
