Thank you Debra!
She's about to... Happy New Year!
Yes!Thank you, Debra!
hope you day was great Annette, and LK, I know u had a good time, right? We went to a movie early today because we wanted to avoid the bad weather on its way here, and as soon as we turned into the drive the snow started.
good timing.
Would love to go shopping for stuffs, but so far I only have three things on my list..
fly ribbon.. Like them better than the yellow sticky traps
a new silver chain( I know I have at least three around here but can't find them)
cranberries and nuts on the clearance racks to mix with my bird seed
see? I must be the gal who has everything... :P~
Wait for it.... she's about too ....
Well Debra I am now officially jealous of your plants, I cannot have many for lack of suitable windows. And a brug about to bloom.......
awww don't be jealous. This is an ugly old basement that I have, with the consent of Joe, turned into my indoor green house/she cave. I also use the large mirrors to reflect the tiny sunlight windows back to the plants, as well as the t5's to give them the light they need. If I didn't have the lights, they would all be dormant. If I hadn't of joined Dave's Garden, This basement would be an unused 1900 sq ft of ugliness. Generous DG'rs have sent me cuttings, plants and seeds in all these swaps.( Since 2008) I like to show them to the DG'rs. I didn't have one bloom all summer on the few brugs I have left. I have been sent and given so many away, and lost a few. the ones I have left are named, old and special.
I used to spend money on drinking. I was not home much back then. This is my new addiction, and I am glad Joe accepts it.
Debra, which one is about too??? Please post her bloom when she opens.
Well Debra, your new addiction is a common one around here on DG. I am impressed with your Basement/Greenhouse. It has got to be easier to control the conditions than my outdoor greenhouse. I am sure both have their advantages and disadvantages. It is difficult keeping temps consistent in my GH But on the other side of the coin, they do get plenty of light and most things will bloom at some point.
But I have had a few sleepless nights worrying about the temps out there. lol If I could fit all my plants in the basement, it might be less stressful and certainly less expensive. I really need a much bigger greenhouse, if I ever plan to raise plants to sell. I did raise some garden plants last year and sold some. Not enough to offset the cost of running a greenhouse in Winter, though. It is not a money-making endeavor, it is a labor of love with a little insanity thrown in there. I like to think of it as an oversized science project. lol
One thing is for sure, it has been and continues to be a learning experience.

Boy you can say that again!
Michelle has the January Birthday card swap open...

agreed... well even tho it is 14 out, at least we can see the sunshine.. it has been cloudy and gray out all last week.
Nice pics Debra!
She should be open in a day or two?
I'mma hoping, been almost a year since I have had a brug bloom around here...
Oh brugs are so beautiful. I do not have room for on to be in the house for the winter or I may have one. I love the light purple ones and the light pink ones. How warm do they have to be over the winter? My basement is just that a basement and kinda chilly would they survive down there? May be something I could think lf.
So I am having a wonderful visit with my son. He is in the Army in Texas. He is home for two weeks. It is so cold we do not want to go anywhere. It is so sunny out right nkw. Really pretty. But way cold...
Brugmansia/Angel trumpets do not come in purple. They come in white, pinks and yellows.
Datura/Devil trumpets come in yellows, whites and purples.
Angel trumpets hang down, devil trumpet blooms point up when they first open. .
I got them mixed up when I first started them too. I saw someone advertise purple angel trumpet seeds on ebay and had to have them. Then I found out they were devil trumpets.
Debra, is she open yet?
Annette, to keep them in the house during winter does not take much room. They can take pretty cool temps, but they will not live if it freezes. I have left mine outside in 36 degree temps, anything colder, I bring them in. They also do not like anything higher than 90 degree's, but I did have one in full sun one summer that did good. They can be pretty temperamental sometime. They like a lot of water, and a lot of fertilizer to bloom. They like warm temps, but usually not full sun.
Ronna, enjoy your time with your son, and give him hugs and thanks for serving!
Morning you all, it is sooo cold I am wearing 5 layers and 2 pairs of socks today at work.
I was all mixed up too about the trumpets.. Jean Pasco has not opened up yet as of last night, but she is going to be yellow from near as I can see..
her little wangers are out and a third of her skirt is still covetred.. maybe tonight..
If you have a basement, u just need a heater and some lights. My garage would be good to use as it has a huge window, but it is not heated and I keep my car in there when I can.
I'm so happy u get to be with your son, Ronna, how proud u must be of him.
Linda do u have any brugs now?
I cannot wait until I have a place where I can grow brugs. I had angel trumpets outside down state, but nothing survives the weather here. In the woods and all sand so not much grows outside but ferns, Lily of the Valley and Hosta.
I have about a dozen cutting I got from different friends, (You, Susie, and Faye) I have them all rooted in pots, waiting for spring, so I can plant them.
Karen, you can keep them in p ots, or you can did a hole in the ground, fill it with good soil, and they will grow. Take cuttings from them when it gets cold. Bring them inside when it gets cold.
No good place in this house. I have four plants crowded into the one good window. They survive the winter and do just a little better outside in the summer. Just not much sun here in the woods.
It still feels like summer here, but my interest in my gardening is gone. Hoping I can get myself back into it this spring. I have a lot of seeds here that were sent to me by DG menbers and I want to see if I can germinate them. Makes me happy when I see little green sprouts popping up. Have an orchid my son bought me and I have to give it a lot of TLC. I'm not good with orchids, but maybe this new year I'll learn a lot about them.
she was about to, and she did, but she is not Jean Pasco, she is Betty Marshall, I put three in one tub for winter, the other two are just getting their Y's on. I didn't get to smell her, but Joanna did, and she said she smells sweetly citronous which Is a vague description of what I remember her smelling like. In the same tub is Jean, and also Milk n Honey
Oh Debra, your brugs are beautiful. I have had many blooms, but usually one or two at a time. Never a flush like your last picture.
Hi everyone! You all are busy as usual. I am busy with my new part-time job. So far I like it except the lady in the office is going to FREEZEI me to death...heavens...
Sounds like you all had happy birthdays and anniversaries!
We went out New Years but were back home before midnight...lol We went to the casino and ran out of money before New Years...rofl.
Everyone is in the middle of bitter cold around here. YUCK! I feel so sorry for the little birds! I dont know how they do it. I am keeping the feeders full. There is a beautiful cardinal on it right now. I had to move the feeder to the north side of the house because so many birds were crashing into the solar windows on the south side. Now the wind is horrible on them. I stuck the Christmas tree back there to try to break the wind by the feeders.
Well have a great one everyone.
Hey Joyce. Where are you working? Make sure you keep sweaters or jackets at work to bundle up in.
I keep a small heater under my desk, because it is cold on that side of the office. It really helps keep my feet warm. And I have always heard that if you keep your feet warm the reat of you will follow suite. Good luck with the new Job!
Joce I thought you retired??? Lol. Okay thanks LK I did not know that. I really did not pay attention or know about the different kinds of devil things (lol) and brugs. I just thing theh are so beautiful. We are so cold here the last three days. Got 9 inches of snow overnight and whiteout conditions. So cold. There is just no getting out. I tried today but turned around and came home. Just being safe.
Ronna, when it gets warmer, I will send you some seeds and baby plants, purple double datura and an angel trumpet .. stay warm until then.
Well, I got the call I've been waiting for. My surgery for the total knee replacement is now scheduled for Feb 25th. I hope that the weather co operates and theres no freak snow storm to make it impossible to get to lexington.
We will keep you in our prayers. Make sure you listen to the therapist after surgery and keep it moving. Your first 3 to 4 weeks will be tough, but you can do it.
I'm still doing the exerises that the PT gave me from my visits with them earlier this yr. I'm also trying to loose some excess wt before surgery. I met a lady who had the surgery and after 3 weeks she is driving a car and walking without help. She also showed me some excerises to do that they showed her during her rehab.
My Dr says she wants me to go into a rehab unit for a week or so after surgery as I live alone and don't have anyone I can count on to come help me is I come home right after surgery. My nephew says he'll come over and check on the dog and the cats while I'm gone.
Keep in touch Mary.
That rehab will help you a lot, that is what I heard from people at work.. good luck and we will pray for speedy recovery for you..
I know you are glad things are finally moving forward, Marti. Do take care in the mean time so nothing interferes. Lots of positive energy for you.
Marti you will do great I am sure. Total knee replacement. Pretty amazing what they can do now. My mom has this same thing looming for her some day in the future. Sad she has been a very active person here whole life.
Bad weather here again overnight. Some heavy wet snow. Driving was yuck last night. Had a family dinner for my son being home. Had a wonderful time. A few pics of last night. Sorry if you have already seen these... my parents with all three babies, all three babies, my grown up babies, a dn Mason and Leah
Ronna, those are beautiful photo's of your family.
