the inch or so of snow yesterday made for some good x-country skiing today.
walked the yard today even though there is up to 2' of snow still out there. Saw lot's for broken branches on dissectum/weeping jm's - some will be character scars others are more serious.
weather in the garden # 138
yes, instead of playing 'pick up sticks' this spring, it will be 'pick up branches'. We still have over 10 inches in spots where a drift has formed.

We should start a thread just for our trees that are leaving so many branches on the ground.
Can't see all the down branches as yet. There are several bigger ones under the tulip tree, but they have fairly brittle branches. 34° here. Snow has stopped, changing to rain.
warming trend for us this week, 40's and 50's
Should be in the 40s & 50s here as well.......my sick maple has been shedding branches all winter, time for Garret to cut it down.
39° We have branches down all over the place.
The JM that I planted 15 years ago in front of our house has a split branch that breaks deeply into the trunk. Wonder if i can tie it back together so the whole tree doesn't just dry up?
Worth a try--talk to Bill.
Usually, a deep split won't heal.....snow again last evening! Ice on the drive again this morning.....should be an April's Fool joke, but it's not........
40° warmer tomorrow. perhaps rain. Still 18" of snow measured in the back yard. As we go further west on the property changes to a foot so that was the highest drift.
Rosemary that is what i was referring to earlier about branches - have a bunch of jm's with split branches from the heavy snow all of them were weeping jm's.
A picture would help. You might try pulling it together, drilling a hole through it and put in a screw with washers on both side and screw it tight. Might be a two person job, one to hold tight and the other to tighten the bolt. Did this before the winter on one damaged jm from the t-day storm.
good luck!

Somebody tap wha - he's skipping and repeating...
Good advice, though! Should be 50 here today......can I put the woolen blanket away?
mid 50's today, hope it lasts. I'm not trusting mother nature, my winter coat is still at the ready
Its a beautiful day and 60 degrees .Planted some barefoot Strawberry , and set up my stand to put my plants out to harden them up. Sealed my water barrel faucet connection and getting it ready to collect water tomorrow because we are expecting rain tonight.
49° Saw a new little crocus next to the house. My little ring of 'snow crocus' is still covered with snow.
Looking forward to crocus and other spring blooms. The witch hazels in this neighborhood were delayed until this week. Snow is melting, and with rain coming more melting is ahead.
High of 62 yesterday! Lots of snow has melted, starting to look more like the middle of March than March 1st....one of these days it will start looking like April!
53° overcast A high of 63° is predicted.
53 and fog. rain later in the day
38° overcast sky
I will try Bill's method. We were thinking of just wrapping wire around it but the suggestion sounds better! Pics later.
Only 40s today with a wicked wind......feels like back to winter.....
I was just going to say that this must be the lion part of March and then I remembered--it's supposed to be April.
Well, april is being a tiger. there is a nasty wind.
went out there and trimmed up the jm's today - one had three splits so I screwed the tree back together - crimson queen by the pond was not so lucky had to trim out a couple good branches - another had one screw repair - and two others had some trimming.
windy out there - spent a couple hours just picking up sticks and branches - no rain here
My JMs had no damage this year.....guess I was lucky, but they're not that tall! Sunny & cold for this morning, rain coming in this afternoon....mixed with snow in Goshen where I'll be for the day.....Happy Easter to all who celebrate!
Happy Easter to all. temp just above freezing this morning but supposed to be in the 40s this afternoon. More snow melt & we can now see past the pile at the end of our driveway.
Snowed in Goshen, was 35 & sleeting when I came home at 4:30......ice on my drive this morning....should get to 50 this afternoon....rain for the rest of the week.....
38° supposed to get to 43° at 4pm. overcast.
SHEESH!!!!!
A glorious day. Think I finished cutting back everything. Meow to tackle the awful grass that I let get established in the one bed. I need To dig and separate the good from the bad and replant. UGH!! My fault.
It never rained here. So much for forecasts.
Yep but they are saying tomorrow and Wednesay will be rainy. Bright and sunny today.
Temp hit 60 yesterday....today will stay in the 40s with rain showers.....good day to go out shopping....would have loved to worked out in the gardens yesterday, but I broke a tooth, & spent the best part of the afternoon at the dentist's!
Sorry about the need for dentist work. It is annoying & sometimes painful.
39° here & small rain showers. Supposed to be that way until the weekend when we suddenly go to 60°. Looking forward to that.
Hard to keep my mouth opened all that time! But I'm just glad the tooth was repairable.....cloudy, cold, showers for today.
36° overcast & 'snaining' at the moment. The snow line was moved north, but it looks like it is trying to snow.
