Yeah Ernie....I was scrolling back looking for hawk in the shop story....nothing.

You tell Linda next time you are trapped on the floor, to ignore what you say and call 911. You can make a bad situation worse with all that struggling. Besides you don't want her hurting herself trying to help you.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

The hawk story just as it happened..Bob my old canning friend and I were canning salmon in my shop. Bob and I worked for each other during the 1970 and 80's . First me for he then he for me then together then me for he We canned millons of cases of salmon together. Anyway back to the hawk. We had two pressure cookers cooking and the outside walk door was open a foot and a half or so when all of a sudden this bird crashed in and shortly behind in hot pursuit came the Golden Horde. The hawk flew to the far end of the shop and crashed into the closed glass window. I donned a pair of heavy leather gloves and went after it and naturally he headed for the other end of the shop. Not finding a clean window it turned around and rammed the window again. I said bob open the roll up. Bob did and the bird wend out and landed in the lawn with three dogs in chase. I called the dogs off and the bird got up and flew low to the ground and into the enchanted forest safe from those darn dogs.

The bird was a sparrow hawk a bird about twice as big as a robin or Cedar waxwing. Not big with about a 15 inch wingspan.

Ps. we canned 30 pints of salmon now that's a lot of sandwitches

Wow guess that added a bit of excitement to your day. Had to be something with all the dogs added in.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear all is well.

Checking into reverse mortgage, any one an expert on this subject. I won't be doing it for a while, but have to learn all there is about it. I don't want to lose my help that I get on utilities, etc. Social security just isn't enough to handle mortgage and how am I going to do any gardening if I can't go and buy big bags of potting soil. LOL When I think of a question I have to write it down or will never remember it. Boy, I heard some horrible stories about your home being taken away from you and so need to learn a lot about it.

It has cooled down some so I can pull these weeds. I have to take short breaks, backs just weren't made to keep on digging in the yard as we get a lot older.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I would check at my own bank for advise.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pegi, please read this... http://www.dre.ca.gov/files/pdf/re52.pdf

What an experience, Ernie! You're smart to think of thick gloves right away. those talons can set you screaming.
And I'm agreeing with Karen, since you suffer from a bad back, don't get up when you're lying on the floor, might aggravate your back more. Call 911

Pegi, my MIL was told to seek reverse mortgage by her banker son, until she learnt from her SIL (She had RM) that she had to keep her house in perfect shape and that means OOP maintenance $$$$
BUT MIL did the unthinkable, to avoid debtors, she signed over her house to her son, and now, he refused to have anything to do with her. She should have gone the conventional loan route.

I'm here. I didn't know that too much crying can lead to sinus infection.
Been coughing so much yesterday too, yet God gave me a good night's rest.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye, get out your netti pot, and rinse those sinus'! Maybe a good hot shower! ((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks LK, went to the site and printed it out so I can refer to it often. So many things to consider. I heard another horror story years ago about a couple signing their home over to a son to get away from creditors and later son refused to sign it back to them then kicked them out. You just never know what processes some of these kids. OMG, I don't want to end up a bag lady after all.

First time in months I covered up with a blanket last night because it was too cool. It got warmer out and sun is always shinning some part of the day. Neighbor woman gave me a couple large plants, I didn't take the umbrella tree because it is already huge and just don't have room for it. I finally said no to something I don't need!

Off to google black bean chili.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

I am making rotini pasta w/ cubed boneless chicken breast ,frozen peas and alfredo sauce for dinner .It's in the oven as I type ......may make some garlic toast also . Ryan's recipe .........

Jaye hope you get to feeling better soon !

Ernie how is your back ? It's a shame that your adventure with the hawk wasn't video taped ,I bet it would of been something to see.

Pegi glad you are cooling down some . Wish you could of sent the heat here !

Hope all the above are doing good and ,Linda Kay ,Cookie ,Sue, Susan ,Karen .........hope Sis Kathy is getting well ..........

No one here will ever be a bag lady, cuz i have a really big basement :)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh cool.......... oh wait - would never move to the US..... rather like the Medical plan that Canada has.
Thanks for the offer, Sue, but I think 2 Susans would confuse everyone lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Any leftovers Synda? I love one Alfredo sauce, and normally would cook it over angel hair pasta instead of linguini.

Called up sis Kathy and her daughter answered the phone saying she was at a hospital and would return.
Called back much later, and no answer. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Aww Sue, you are so sweet! We care so much for each other that if it's within our means, we make sure none will go homeless. Got me teary eyed. Pegi, I doubt your son is that mean.
Kel's mama is still waiting on her son to return the house back to her, but then, she's not you, Pegi.

Don't rub it in Susan. I will move to Canada or France in a heartbeat if I could.

It's been one of those "I wish I have a crystal ball" day.
My sinuses are improving LK, just my mind now needs a vacation!
I hate writing woe is me, might empty this room. Thank God, my faith is intact and there's the phone when I get too down.

Good night sisters and brother.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

A bag lady isn't my calling. Seen too many of them around here and it isn't a nice sight.

Got the bow of my glasses bent, I know it is from laying in bed with my kindle. Went to Walmart and the young man straightened them out for me. Decided I can use my old glasses when I lay down to read, or teach Mandy how to read to me. Then I get up and forget I have the old pair on. Glad I didn't get rid of them.

Right now I plan on doing a lot of weeding tomorrow, but by the time morning comes I manage to change my mind.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Synda, that sounds really good. Hope it turned out good for you!

Jaye, you have my number if you need to talk!

I have met a few DG members, and I wish I could meet you all. I have never known a better online community as all of you here.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes LK and remember you will have met the best when you get to meet me just ask Linda 48 years and countinq on the way to 50.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Are you close to Bremerton Ernie? My brother lives there.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh Linda Kay it was DELICIOUS !! And have enough for dinner again tonight and Ryan's lunch for work ! So ,"NO COOKING TODAY" YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank Goodness everyone here is fine with leftovers !

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad it was good.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Jaye - thank you for letting us know about Kathy. Likely no answer cuz her daughter was visiting her at the hospital, or checking her out :-)
Regardless, prayers are being sent heavenwards for her.

Today, I am attending a service for a friend of mine who was in the choir with me. It's at my church, and I let the pastor know I have been asked so sing in the choir - she was so sweet and kind, and her husband is going to be lost without her. They were married 65 years......... longer than I am old......
Thora will be sorely missed.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry for the loss of your friend Susan!

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

LK Bremerton is about 2hrs south then about a 45 minute ferry ride. Heck the ferry ride alone is worth it for you land lubbers if you didn't have any place to go. When I was a little boy we lived in Everett (about 30 miles away)sometimes my mother would take me to ride the ferry across the sound and back then we would get in the car and stop at a fish market and we would get a couple of pounds of fresh cooked shrimp which I cleaned for supper. I can still hear her words Sugar better stop eating those shrimp you will spoil your supper. She knew the shrimp were my supper. I miss my mother she is gone 10 years and I still miss her like she passed yesterday. She was supermom and a very special lady.

Susan sorry your special friend passed. There are not to many words I can say to ease your burden so I will just say sorry for your loss and hope you get some relief. Remember the special days.

Sending my condolences also Susan. It is hard to lose our friends.
I have an ex- SIL who lives in Bremerton LK. Even though she and my brother were divorced we have remained friends.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ask her if she knows my Brother and family? Roger and Theresa Tate. My brother works at the naval ship yard there.

Ernie, I have been there several times, but have yet to take that ferry. I hope to do it next time I visit.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We stayed in Everett when we were in WA state the year St. Helens blew her top. We did take the ferry and then went island hopping in the sound. It was wonderful, such beautiful sights like we were in the tropics. It was a beautiful warm sunshiney week-end too. I guess not too often as they were declaring that week-end summer.

I have friends in Olympia WA. that is all i have traveled to in that area :) Ernie your area sounds very beautiful. and shrimp yes i do love it also.
Susan sorry to hear of your friends passing. Wow 65 yrs married , sure wish i been that lucky to find my soul mate and live together that many yrs.
I don't blame you stay in Canada , our health system is gone crazy. ! sheesh.
HOpe Kathy is doing better.
Well Ohio state won over Rutgers and Tom is not happy today. Tom went to Rutgers and was torn about who to cheer for. We are watching Notre Dame and FLorida state game. tied score.
Barb how are things in your world ? how is the weather ? we have rain and cold today.
(((( jaye )))))

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I went to a funeral at my church today - specifically asked to attend by the choir director because Thora was a friend of ours, and in the choir with us.
Helped make the luncheon for afterwards.
Beforehand, the pastor came over and said "Sad day" and gave me a hug!!!
The fellow I originally had the disagreement with called me over to take a seat between he & his wife, at the luncheon. They were perfectly wonderful to me.
I got lots of hugs from other congregationalists / Friends, and people kept asking me to come back. Told them time would tell.
Afterwards I helped clean up the kitchen, etc.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds to me like they are realizing how stupid the whole situation truly is Susan and how much they hurt you and Bob. Also, some people just don't know how to apologize. Could be that case here. Take it slow as you are doing and at a rate that YOU want.

Sue, things are pretty good here in my world. Trying to get Christmas presents for the grandchildren made ( they are all getting handmade scarves this year). Also knitting a sweater for myself as well as quilting to keep me busy. The weather is turning this weekend and fall/early winter is arriving this week. No temps to go above 50/55. I'm not liking that as it means my inside the house most of the time is coming..... I think of you and your family often and I'm so happy you have someone just for you......

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Susan I agree with Barb. Seems to me the pastor got a bit carried away over reacting to a minor situation and acted before he fully thought it through. I do feel as he is a christian person, he does owe you an apology, and should be a big enough person to realize that and do so. If not it will be up to you to be the bigger person. I would however, go slow with him.

I agree with Barb also. Just play it by ear. Im glad that the people involved are trying to hold a hand out to you.
Barb scarves sound wonderful. Those are the best presents :) Jessica's great grandmother made ornaments and dolls with crocheted dresses. I always enjoyed getting them. I sure wish i had them today :(
not much going on today. Tom is back at work , Savannah went on a camping trip with our friends next door.
She is in big trouble my little Savannah. She made a FB page with out my consent ! and she took my expensive hair products camping with her ? ! .... she has never been this naughty before and i m sad about it. She wanted a halloween party next weekend and i will have to take it away from her :(.
I m watching a movie The Time Machine

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

thank you, ladies - I am taking it slow. Didn't go to church today, but will likely go to choir practice Thursday, which means next Sunday - church

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Aww too bad about the Halloween party but sounds like serious offenses so........

im not looking forward to doing it. but she needs to understand consequences

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It;s hard being a mom and having to take away things from the kids. I know I wasn't very good at it. Can't go back and redo those mistakes. Then we end up being the mean one. Dad was never a help in any of those situations.

Seems temps. are going up a little, still waiting for rain. I actually did a little dusting this morning, got to get the vacuum cleaner out now and see how far I get with some cleaning. Can't forget the laundry that I put off all week either.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We had a rule here at the lake about wearing life jackets if you were in any boat.( before it was law) Stated penalty was not being allowed in a boat the rest of the visit. Caught a grandson who especially loved the canoe. Broke my heart but had to stick by the rule. To his credit, he put a jacket on and I swear he even slept in it. Never again has the rule been broken by anyone.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

And most of all Sue, NOW is when she needs to learn them. If she gets away with small offenses she will think she can get away with big ones. And the older she gets, the bigger the lessons to be learned. Parental rules are so hard to make and enforce but if you don't teach her, she will learn things you don't want her to know!!!!! Believe me, there WILL come a day when she thanks you for keeping her straight..... Sending prayers for patience for you......And also for a strong will with Savannah. Hugs,,,,

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Eventually they realize, we make and enforce rules because we love them. I have seen kids who basically grew up with barely any restraints and you know what? they are NOT happy kids.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

When I was a young boy one thing I came to realize is you cannot lead with a whip. Many times when school administrators tried to punish me it backfired and I rebelled which only made things worse. I refused to take a punishment that I deemed was without merit. Yet through it all my mother called me sugar.I miss my mother what I would give to hear her call out Sugar. My mother was my biggest supporter and her punishment was done with love.
