8TH DG On-Line Christmas Craft Workshop by Betty/all welcome

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think you need a few more books! ^_^

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

What is this sealer? I know you intend to but some in our kit, but if I wanted to buy more, what would I buy?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I will purchase smaller bottles, in the craft paint section at Michaels/Joanns/Hobby Lobby you will find them..some made by Delta/Legacy or Americana

I because I want a hard finish buy Flecto Diamond Satin Finish in a small can at home depot and perhaps Walmart has it

I delute it for sealing and then use it for 4 or 5 coats of finish and that way your piece lasts forever. Now from time to time if it was a floormat that is left out I might wash and give a coat to bring back to new..I never use gloss or semi-gloss because it makes the piece look like plastic, no like lol

one small can would do several mats and likely around $10.00
I'll look here to see if I've a small can to show you but I buy mine by the gallon

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

great, thanks!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, there is a 2nd side with as many books lol

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1377351/

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

LK - she really has about four shelving units with books/magazines!!!!!
I would be spending all my time going through those!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

ooops, yes I do, didn't think you'd remember lol

ordered poutine from next door, have myself lunch and look through magazines, could take rest of day

you forgot to tell her NORM made a floormat and it turned out great..our resident pro, he'll be able to tell you Barb and Sean if you aren't quite following the procedure..I absolutely loved that day and will never forget it

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I could have fun going through those books as well!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Let's all go to Betty's and read through her books. LOLOLOLOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

heck, I've not even made it to the books but will when I get back from town

Ocean Springs, MS

Yes, Betty, you need at least one more book... because I sent you one in your Queen box! LOL

Thanks for the link for the snowman! going to look it up now since it's still not showing as a hyperlink on my computer. Also, thanks for answering my question about the linoleum.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Craft book or sewing book

Ohhh excited now

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty,

I was wondering about using the tile look linoleum, that seems to be prevalent here in my area. We had to buy that for our chicken coop. Fancy chickens we have, yessir!

So, are we going to paint the backside with the design? I can't wait to see the next installment!

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

I wish I didn't already have so many projects going. Cause I would love to join you all in this workshop! I am going to watch for sure.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Terri we do indeed paint the underside. Chicken coop, me thinks they are spoilt

Just looked through about 50 books, nothing caught my fancy, have something in mind though

Drats, not the best looking through magazines..nope
Too many projects I'd like to do. Lol

Nanny we need " watchers' to edge us on

Here is hoping next year you can joins

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Nanny, this is my first to finally be able to join. I've been too deep into Husband's health issues, long rotten work hours, moving and new job, etc, etc, you know, LIFE! BUT this year, we're in a different house, I'm making headway on the work here, changed jobs to something more humane AND he's not had another surgery in 18 months soooooooo.... ta da! This is MY year to join!

I'm hoping NEXT year is your golden opportunity to join in the fun and participate.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Thanks psychw2. My daughter graduates from Nursing School in December (God Willing) and my schedule should ease up after that, hopefully. Right now, in addition to working full time, and gardening a lot of the time, lol, I also help take care of my 3 small grandchildren, while she is in class. They are 5,3, and 2, so they do keep me busy. Lol But I am going to sit in on your workshop cause it looks like so much fun!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Nanny, Betty is awesome and I have known several of the women in the group for years now thru Davesgarden. I hope we will cross paths often. Sounds like DG fills an important niche in your life too! When life gets REALLY busy it's nice to know we can visit with online friends that enjoy the same things in life.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Yes that is true! I have become aquainted with so many wonderful people through DG! So many kind, caring, and generous individuals. I am really galsd that I joined this awesome community.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you Pat but no more so then any Dg member..

Just made lunch, quick bite and more books to look out..think I'll sit outside to do so

Finally that old scarecrow that has been hiding in laundry room finally made it outside

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh, we need to see it finished please?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty makes the really cool wood one, I make do with $4 scarecrows from Joann's! LOL

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

I have the Same kind only from Walmart. :)

Just got back from the hoedown at the Residence, mom and residents enjoyed the b.b.q. / music and square dancers, my girlfriends mom just got out of the hospital, heart, but here she is with her walker dancing

just before I left for the Residence I was using my compressor to bradnail, awful sick sound, I bled the air and emptied water but think the motor is gone..drats
stopped at home depot on my way home, bought a lighter one, can't be without a compressor that's for sure

Looks like it was a great time for all! Love that scarecrow!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Love the scarecrow !! and the smile on Fran's face.

Betty does she realize just how happy she has been while there? does she REALLY want to leave??

Ocean Springs, MS

Handsome scarecrow! Love seeing them so happy!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thunder, my sibblings ps and I are encouraging her to stay and yes I've told. Her as I'm sure the others have that it's a joy to visit with her, her positive outlook. You know how I dreaded my visits with her nd yet I visit her almost every day sooo that must say something re her changes.

She will not be able to drive for a bit if ever, it will be dangerous her going upstairs or basement once she is home..she would have left this weekend had arrangements to redo all her floors before she goes home.

I believe she is nervous of going home and being alone..but, big but,, she wants to try it

Guess maybe that is the answer, try it, not like it and come back.

We are hoping the seniors complex that her sister moved into this summer has an apartment tht becomes available, her name has been there for 3 months

That would be the ultimate solution..only 10 miles from me

Her daughter is stubborn so I know where she gets it from. Lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Maybe she does need to go home so she will KNOW she has made the right decision when she moves in the apartments where her Sis is. Sometimes we just need to be sure of our decisions.

LONG time ago my boyfriend gave my mother a sign that says "Insanity is hereditary, parents get it from their kids!" My mom missed that the first read or two then REALLY liked it! So I think this "we get it from our parents stuff" may be bi-directional! hehehe

I got a double dose of mischievousness from my parents!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Love that saying Pat!

I'm propped up in bed, have about 60 Xmas books net to me, leafing through

More often than not I see a piece that I did in genesis/heat set oils, non primitive painted pieces and wonder who I gave them to..one should keep a 'give' record

Then at my feet I'm pitching a few books that I'd love to do
Think after Xmas I'll set sewing aside and try to get my painting skills back

Went 'oh yeh' on one of them

It's an oval stained glas piece that has a frosted insert which is painted..I have 3 or 4 in a box that were meant for 5 or 6 Christmas's ago

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

That is such a nice visual, you surrounded with books and a happy smile on your face as all those creative juices flow!

Would love to see the stained glass you are referring to, sounds divine!

Ocean Springs, MS

Yeah, I think insanity comes from our kids! LOL

Betty, the craft book I sent you has all kinds of ideas, painting, sewing, quilting, crochet, etc. Saw it an instantly thought of you! :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I just can't wait.

This thread has lead me to get myself in mega trouble

I would not be lying if I said I had well over 1,000 painting magazines, won't even count just craft and sewing magazines..that's another story

I've gone through about 200 and kept about 20 out that have must do projects. Lol. Dil's would love a couple of the pieces I'm sure.

Did find a floormat with I think a tad more painting than I'm sure you all want to do so my search continues

Will post photo's of a few pieces I thought I would do , perhaps not before Christmas but you know me , p,annimg for 2015 already!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, our own little Santa's helper!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Got the off white face area painted on wine glasses, some quilting (2rolls) going to have left over Chinese as tummy is growling then outside for a few hours..this weather can't last so best I get more done while I an

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did you think I forgot all about you???
