8TH DG On-Line Christmas Craft Workshop by Betty/all welcome

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can you believe it , who could have imagined that doing my 1st DG On-Line Christmas Craft would lead to a 8th...not I!!! Must mean those who participated enjoyed it through the years.

From the Best/Worse and What did I learn thread a few girls decided to have a 'craft day' and seeing we couldn't get together in the person that we'd do it on-line...our first workshop was a "Victorian Santa" sleigh, they so enjoyed it that I sent out several additional santa's and they or hubby or friend managed to cut them more..some even did the project on other items they had.

Now because of the artistic skills needed and listening to all saying they'd never done such projects we decided to keep it where anyone could join in and have a work of art after it was done..hopefully no-one would be disappointed!!!

Come see some of our workshops and what they achieved...

The sleighs were beautiful and all enjoyed..many of their friends and relatives received homemade treasures that year..omg was that 2007??? Time flies...

The following year the 2008 DG Christmas Project Workshop doubled ... a Victorian Santa it would be, omg you can't imagine how wonderful these santa's Iturned out, bet over 100 were done in all, each and everyone different than the other. A great success!!

Our 3rd. year we enjoyed several projects, all mostly Snowmen, I also included a kit to make iris folding Christmas cards..all enjoyed and I'm sure additional cards were made and sent out..
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1048304/

Our 4th. year all enjoyed snowman and trees on a base..even some grandchildren participated which made it even more endearing...

Our 5th year, 2011 Candleholder trio which did brighten up our lives...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1229041/

6th. year. was a choice of Winter Skates or Snowman

7th year - Stand Up Snowman
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1337114/

With postal charges going up, crafting supplies considered, it's always a challenge to come up with a project for $20.00 to include supplies and shipping, those who participated last year felt/agreed to $25.00
Our projects are always fun soooo if you feel as though you would like to join us, please sign up
check for photo's of previous workshops so you can see what others enjoyed doing!

For Payment, I would ask you simply include $$$ in a card, post office is so efficient that as yet I've had no problems getting payment.

Now let's see who joins in...

I shall start preparing packages as names appear. Will be going to Florida on October 10th and would like to ship the kits then. 2 projects have been discussed, one being a gourd snowman (which I would have to ship from Buffalo late October/early November) or a floormat 24" x 36" sent out from Florida the week I'm there.

Step by step photo's and instructions will be posted on the thread and as I'm usually always on-line 24/7 lol I'm always here to answer any question you may have..will set up a specific date but for those unable to join in you'll not be cast aside..

I've rambled and I have not explained myself, please comment on the thread and I'll clarify...

Hope to see your name in the group...

If you've enjoyed projects in the past feel free to sign up!!!

We will have general chat to see which project gets the most votes

If possible once you commit to the class regardless of the project please forward $$$ as it helps with purchase of supplies and postage which is substantial..when mailing if you could let me know...thanking you all in advance for this part (lol)

Remember, pretty well everything you need comes in the box...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Add my name please? I will go with either project. I think my painting skills might be better with a gourd, but willing to learn the floormats as well!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Count me in! whatever it is! I've really looked forward to finally joining.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'd like to do a gourd...good grief can't believe I'm signing up for more painting. LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Karen it will be a piece of art..actually I think floormat would be the easier project..but we'll see

got to do one first to see right?
I thank you for joining in girls

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Would love to do the floormat! I have very little flat surface display area except the floor and I know if I put a gourd on the floor it will be broken by one of my grandkids or the dog...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Welcome Terri, when all decorating space is used up yep start on the floors lol

Am sure you'll enjoy it, we've had lots of fun over the years

Verona, ON

Betty please add me to the list. Looks like it is going to be lots of fun.
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh happy you will Dianne!

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Betty! Have greatly admired your projects over the years but this is the first time I will be something other than lurking. I kept my membership up over the years but never had time to get back into the groups at DG after I lost my job. Things are much better now!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Remember I live in sand country, it's everywhere. Would be a problem with a mat even a decorative one.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Actually wouldn't Karen, just need more coats of finish..besides there will be snow by Christmas and its for Christmas. Lol.

Terri, mthen all is the better that this year you can join in..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Don't forget the CEILING!! hehehe

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

count me in. either project fine by me.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nice to see you join in Thunder

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Me too Betty though I must check first for Sean. He is 14 now and not so much into things as he was before.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Barb, I hope Sean chooses in. Grandma time is a precious thing.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope he does as well, perfect gift for his mamma

Bedford, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Betty, but I really didn't mean to sound needy! If the majority would like the gourd project, I will not be upset. I really do enjoy just seeing all the lovely work that everyone does and the thought that goes into your projects. I wish I had half your energy!

Victoria Harbour, ON

If it's ok with Karen, I really would like to do the floormat as it might open up so many possibilities of doing them for other seasons and uses

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Floor mats sounds good to me.

Ocean Springs, MS

Either is fine with me! Sign me up, please! I'm sending you a dmail!

Pacifica, CA

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sean said YES Betty!!! I'm thrilled. So that makes two for me........

Ocean Springs, MS

Betty, I know you are busy, so please forgive me, but when you get a chance, may we see the pictures? Thank you!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Smilling ear to ear Bar, so glad Sean decided to have a craft day with you..been almost since the beginning he has..

Picking up a roll of linoleum tonight, over the weekend I will do one and post photo's

As well Julie I will post how i do the glasses as per your request

Ocean Springs, MS

Ah! You are the best! ♥

Victoria Harbour, ON

Picked up a roll of linoleum so will cut and prime a piece tomorrow and go through my floormat books to see if I can find something suitable

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Can hardly wait!

Ocean Springs, MS

I'm excited, too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning all,

well, I've got the roll of linoleum open and stretch so that it can relax a bit so I can cut out floormats..likely I'll not cut this one into 2'x3' sections..will cut what I need and keep a larger piece for a cold, snowy day and paint for one of the decks...

I've marked 2 so far, almost tempted to cut another and do a Halloween piece while I'm at it, well see

I did notice yesterday they've come out with a new linoleum that doesn't need gluing and its plastic on back side...do not purchase that one

what you need has to be plyable, paper back (old type)
if your are looking at a piece to purchase yourself you will see a hard plastic type as finish, nope, has to be soft and not a lot of shine

you will see in the distance a floormat under the rec room coffee table that was once under my kitchen table, I'd say it's about 8 years old, next step for it will be a back deck but not until I get new furniture and decide on a color..just so much you can do with floormats..I prefer to regular rug mats because there is no upkeep, simply use a broom and wash. now I do give it many coats of finish once it's done to protect the painting

while I wait for the day to heat up I'll be crafty

off to get the wine glasses from upstairs..some of you asked if I could post as I went along my projects, will do so, step by step

for those wanting to do the wine glasses you could keep up to me and provide me with your e-mail so I can send you the face pattern

and now we start our journey

you will get 2 mats off the 6' length
notice the ragged cut edge from the manufacturer, simply use a ruler, give a small mark and cut it off

showing you a closer look to the underneath because if you buy the roll mat that the upper good side has the look of tile, many times the marking of tile will show on the underneath, not that it's a problem, sometimes it adds to the design but I prefer not to

also, don't use linoleum that has been laying around the house, becomes brittle and won't last

IF I CAN OFFER ONE NOTE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE TO PURCHASE GOOD PAINTERS TAPE AND NOT THAT OF THE $$$store

Towards end of the project when major taping involved I used cheap tape and regardless of my being extra careful with burnishing I got bleeding

STEP 1:

In your kit I am including a bottle of 'sealer' with the 2' x 3' piece of linoleum

in a dish of sorts empty your sealer and add 1/3 of same bottle that you've filled with water into the dish so 3:1 mixture

brush the mixture onto the mat as to seal the paper backing, as well, don't forget the edges

as shown and let completely dry

Betty, did I miss a post about buying a piece of linoleum? Or is that included with what you send us? Also, sending you my email address for the wine glass. Thanks

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Do we leave the paper on it?

Victoria Harbour, ON

added above that I was sending the linoleum but added it where I said the linoleum and sealer would be included..as we progress I will add exactly what will be in the kit

Victoria Harbour, ON

it's not really paper, they call the back finish 'paper type finish' yes, you don't touch it, simply seal with the mixed solution of 3:1

just made myself a coffee and now will look through my Christmas books to find a project we can all enjoy and not be overly stressful..

ought to take me a good part of the day
