Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

It's foolish and sunny here this morning. I'm sitting on the swing by the pond and waterfall with my winter robe on drinking my morning java. It's probably in the low 60's by now. Fish are still getting fed. That stops when water reaches 55 degrees. Probably won't be long now.

I hate to see the garden wind down, but I'm tired, too. No rest for me with the week coming up. Sunday is the Pond club picnic. Monday is the Ohio Assn. of Garden Clubs Federation meeting. Tuesday is my daytime garden club monthly meeting which is a picnic. That's at 11. After that we take off to go North for a garden tour before ore monthly Hosta club meeting which is also a picnic. Wednesday I clean a customers house. Thursday another garden club has invited ours to a picnic (we don't have to take any food to that one). Friday I clean another customers house. Saturday, a girls day out to a Dahlia garden. Whew! At this point I think Sunday will be a day of rest!! Sometime in there I need to get my hair cut! Geez... I'm tired thinking about next week. Think I'll go take a nap!! ;o)

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear of all your problems Betty and all. sending prayers. I fell backward again and broke my left wrist like I did three yrs ago with the right one. I never will get my garden back like it was.

Georgeous iris!

Sorry to hear of your break. Hope it heals well and fast!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Cookie, I am exhausted just reading what your coming week looks like. I am "vegging" out for now (ha!) as I will be going to visit my sister around the 24/25th. Our family reunion is October 4th and I will help get things together.....plus doing some of the cooking. Now that she is on the road to recovery I think it will be more fun. She actually has started taking an interest in learning to cook various things!! That is a real change...good one.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

So glad to hear that Sue is doing well. Answer to prayers for sure!

Marion good to know Sue is doing good.
Cookie your a busy garden lady. How is Bill ?
pretty iris. wow.
not much going on here
going to a party tonight. but not in the mood :(
grades of how schools in Ohio are doing came out. My kids district suck ! they are almost failing . I knew that already but i didn't need to actually hear it. My kids are in the top honor roll classes but honestly i don't see it. ?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Raining, cold and windy..

Oh Bev, sorry to hear about your injury, the gardens can wait, what is important is that you are healing and taking it easy..hope your son is still living with you and can help out when he can..

Joyce, and they say I'm a busy woman, Lordy slow down! All sounds like fun though

Marion, again likely we will just miss each other, big sigh
Great news about Sue though.

Sue, sorry to hear about the school system, should you move the kids will find it difficult. When do you start work or did you decide to take the seasonal job?

Wonder how our Katie is doing?
Omg what a morning!!

Pushed myself to drive 70 miles in the middle of nowhere to a gourd farm, got there at 10am as planned..she brought me to the barn, quite a jaunt in the rain and no jacket..showed me the big bins where likely I'd fine the gourds that most resembled the snowmen I want to make, handed me large plastic bags to set them into..yuk did smell like must, here I am in the bins keeping in mind that the clean ones are $2 more..didn't mind cleaning the ones I'd picked, fill tub with water/bleach and scrubbing brush, easy least, I can do that!

She went back the her house, big house, quite long with basement, shop attached to living room , open concept...

Took me 1 1/2 hours to pick but the best, asked how she charged, circumference of the bottom of gourd, priced a few to show me, hmmm $8-10, still ok

Walk back to the house, soaked, went inside, waited, no lady, knocked hard on some metal, no lady, waited a bit, went to living room entrance, yelled hello several times, waited, went back and called out hello once again, no answer. Drats

Waited about five minutes more, took a piece of paper off her desk and wrote a 'sorry, waited for almost 15 minutes and had to run'

Moral of this story, no gourds, looking for a project.

Here I am, in no mans land, my phone rings and it's Greg, what are you doing?? I tell him and he says look in your rear view mirror, it's him.

I said thank goodness I'm not trying to hide anything or get away with something as where I am, he is. Lol

He was at the Honda plant in alliston bringing supplies to his workers,.,told him what I did and he said I had to have more patience

Got to cookstown and picked out fabric for a jacket for me to try, off to wash the fabric and maybe look through pattern books for the Xmas crafts

Aren't I silly?

Did drop books off for mom, stayed a bit, I didn't tell her that mike and Kim (db & SIL) were on their way at least that is what Greg said

mulege, Mexico

Good news this morning,

My friend who lives in San Francisco will be visiting his parents in LA on Tuesday and Wednesday and I'm invited to join them. I've known Michael for close to fifty years and his parents almost that long so it will be like family - in a good way.

AND my doctor sent me a SECOND email telling me is checking with the ct scan people and will contact me as soon as they have results.

Had a minor meltdown at Home Depot and left without my purchases after the clerk couldn't get my card to work and seemed to think I didn't mind endless problems. She was wrong. I did not scream or cry, just said forget it and left quietly.

Need a cup of coffee - caffene withdrawl headache coming on.

I really miss my dogs. May go find Deg Beach here if I can get up on this pain.

hugs, katie

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Thanks for checking in Katie. I'm sorry about your added stress. There comes a time when "one more thing" is the final straw and Home Depot was yours! I'm glad you have a friend to stay with a few days, that will be good.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Katie, sending armwraps, lordy you sure didn't need that..will you have to check with the bank as to why the card wouldn't work...likely she could have entered the numbers in manually??
So pleased you will spend a few days with friends, should raise your spirits..here's hoping the doctor gets the reports as you'd hate to leave for home only to be told it's a must for you to return.

Pat, how are things going? know how disappointed you were with not getting the gravel..did your help come and were you able to find enough projects to keep them busy for the day?

Here is a photo of Riley, guess she's home for the fall/winter
routine is to leave Fridays and not come home until Monday morning, eats and leaves and back each morning..growls at me if I want to keep her in more than a few minutes,
then comes fall, she becomes affectionate, enjoys lazing around

now I know fall is really here

everyone believes she has found a 2nd home with a cottager..been years she has done same routine

washing fabric I bought for a jacket, once pressed I'll decide which patterns go where..almost tempted to try the jacket out with scrap pieces then I will not feel as bad if it doesn't turn out
as the fabric I bought cost $85..canadian prices, flannel alone was $14.98 meter ugggg

Afternoon everyone.

Betty, so sorry your gourd shopping trip was a bust! I think I would have left her money on the table, and taken the gourds. That is a long trip for nothing.

Katie, nice to see you checking in. Sure hoe you hear from your Dr. soon!

Bev, so sorry to hear about your broken arm. Sending prayers fro a speedy recovery.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love those fabrics Betty.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Ya, I'd have left money & gone with the gourds.

HOLY cow that's a lot of money for the fabric! I had a heavy textured beige bedspread I bought for 2 or 3$ at a thrift store I wanted to turn into a jacket but gave up and passed it on. Decided I didn't have time to make one.

Turned out fine here. I just had to put on the thinking cap and come up with different projects included top off the arbtitivates, which I never could have done. Frame up a wheel chair ramp, repair gutter and weeding.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds like a good days work was done!
Did you manage to reschedule the gravel?

Couldn't just leave $$$ because she had to give a price to each
Oh well

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Problem with card could have been simply you were away from home. About every other time I go to TN, I go to make purchase and card is refused even though I have told them not to do that....it is for my protection...OK I get it but I would think after I tell them. They want me to call them every time I'm traveling so they know it's me using the card. That card is tied to my bank account so I very seldom carry much cash. I have to get out of line, the store sequesters my purchase while I call the bank and get it fixed again.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Safe but aggravating none the less...I call the bank to tell them I'm travelling and what states, seems to help.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Well he said he'd do it Monday but frankly we have the wheelchair ramp framed and I'd prefer to pour the cement and let it cure for 2 weeks before we have a truck anywhere near it! We'll see.

Victoria Harbour, ON

No rush weather wise is there?

Soon have to start winterizing here

Next weekend I will start putting things away from the garden and maybe get the back porch closed in

Lots of work ahead, want to send me your crew?

Lyndonville, NY

Checking in.....

Happy Belated birthday Marion...I am sorry I am late.

Barb, sorry about your fall and the wrist....please be careful and I hope it heals fast.

Katie, big hugs...sure hope is good news and soon!!! You have patience of a saint!!

I am still sick. I have not had a cold/flu like this in LONG time, and nothing is touching
it. DH has a touch and so does Shanes girlfriend. From the feel of it, is in my chest, ears, and head...totally congested. Had to use inhaler, allergy meds and antibiotics. Blahhhh!!!!

Miss you all...hope to catch up soon

Debbie

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Ohhhhhhh Debbie, I hate that kind of stuff. Invariably I end up with an ear infection and I'm congested I'm even MORE hard of hearing and we don't need that! I hope you get to feeling better soon.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debbie, thanks for the wishes but it is far more important you take care of yourself. These horrible colds seem to have started earlier than usual in this area. Both my son and his oldest daughter sounded like they might be coming down with one. Sure hope not.

Well my day wasn't the best! Kim and I went out to lunch and as we were leaving I had this feeling I had a piece of cranberry from my sandwich stuck on my tooth. NOT!!! The tooth had a large section that had broken. Guess I know what I will be doing come Monday morning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry to hear you are still unwell Debbie, long lasting this bug is!not a great welcoming for Shane's girlfriend..was Paul able to get to work?

Ohhhh Marion, don't envy your Monday visit to the dentist,,I sure don't miss those

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/enterovirus-outbreak/story?id=25345098#.VA8x9ol-P5Y.facebook

Please check out this news story. There is a bad virus going around, and it spreads pretty quick!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Checking in .. seems weekends are manic around here .. flitting around doing this and that and going hither thither and yon ..
So sorry to hear about the fall and the wrist breakage Barb (dragonfly) .. a definite owie that!

Debbie, that enterovirus is heading northeast across the US, so beware .. but, I can tell ya, it is up here in Canada as well .. DH is still fighting a heavy chest, and I have heard of several FAMILIES stricken with it as a unit and confined to home and bed ..
Sad to say, the SUPER bugs are slow to respond to the antibiotics :-(
Rest and hydration, bump up the vit C and E ..
All the best ..

Betty, that 'gourd' experience was just THE worst !!!!!

Have stuff to get moving on here .. mostly HOUSEWORK .. overcast/cool day ..

OHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .. I bought the 'grape seed extract caps' for Lorna's stump .. now, she thinks it MIGHT be wishful thinking, but, says it felt better last night .. fingers crossed.
AND I was given a sample of a NATURAL Aloe Vera based skin gel .. well .. I have to say, the stuff is amazing .. here's the site if you'd like to have a look ..
naturesaid.com

My hands look better, but, right now it's my feet that are looking frickin awful !!! Hoping this gel will turn that around.
At least the INTENSE itching has stopped, AND, I am tapering off the prednisone .. started Friday, will take about 2 weeks .. a love/hate kinda drug .. bad side effects for us arthritics ..

DAWG! It has just started to POUR rain !!!!
And I just filled the birfeeder with peanuts for the Blue Jays, ahh well, soggy nuts today guys !!

Take care everyone, stay well and safe, and .. HAPPY ^_^

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I thank you for the healing wishes Deb but it was Bev who broke her wrist - not me. LOL
But I'll send those healing wishes right back to you as it seems you could really use them. Glad Shane is there with you.....
Sorry for all of you with this new virus. It sure doesn't sound pretty.
Marion - hope the dentist visit isn't too bad.
Pat - get some rest!!!
Thanks for the link Linda.
Got Sean here today so I'll go and make pancakes!!!!

Edited to add that I'm happy Lorna seems to think she has less pain and that the cream is helpful to you "M"!!

Morning all

Fall day here with no sunshine, sky is dark so who knows if it shall rain again, hope not as the ground is so saturated!

Meant to ask Bev, did they have to put a cast on it?

Omg, sure hoping that virus doesn't end up in my neck of the woods, thanks for the link LindaKay.

Barb, enjoy pancakes with Sean, nice to see he still has time for grandma/grandpa.
how is Brandon liking being away at school..must check to see how my braedon is doing.

"M" let's hope those grape seed capsules do the trick for Lorna and the aloe works wonders.
Think some times mother nature has the best remedy but we often choose man made.

LindaKay, how is dad?

Had the odest think happen during the night, you will likely think I'm crazy

Am sure I was awake, watching t.v. Turned around to make myself comfy and was just about to doze off (so sure I was not sleeping). Could hear footsteps walking down the hall, I remember listening to them, felt someone get into bed beside me, actually felt the matress compress and then someone snuggled it...

Came to me I live alone, turned around to check and of course nobody there. Isn't that the strangest, really felt there was

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dad is doing very well, thanks for asking.

Strange thing to happen. Guess you were sleeping? I have had dreams like that, some one comes in and pats my behind. When I wake up, no one is there. Or I hear the door open then shut, again no one there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought maybe roger made a quick stop with angel wings. Lol

Glad your dad is doing well, less stressful for you.

Sitting here reading pattern instructions for the jacket, read a dozen times then cut.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Hmmmm....I think Roger came to spend a little time with you.....

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Great minds, Betty!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, great minds

Was just scheduling things in calendar, boy Joyce weeks are passing like crazy
Not sure when Rita can be off work or for how long, we both plan to go to Florida, if driving and just 2 of us thought maybe I'd book a room at your house if you would have us or we just might fly

Between family commitments, craft shows etc there are about 3 weekends I'm doing nothing, well, not really nothing

Lazy this a.m.

Got to take mom shopping, likely go after supper
Only 2 more weeks and she will be back in the city

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning everyone. Betty, no you are not crazy! I have had the same thing happen...swear on my life someone was there but alas not. Odd.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Maybe at a time when needing a bit of comfort.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh, Betty, I would love that! You know the door is always open for you, and Rita, too of course!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Here is some interesting reading of things that go bump in the night

http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/articles/mes.htm

And this explains what you "heard and felt" Betty. Hypnagogia or lucid dreaming

http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/hypnagogic-state.html

Victoria Harbour, ON

will keep that in mind Joyce..

just spoke to Darlene, she has her insurance for the 10th of October so guess that is when we will leave. Her back is bad so likely we wouldn't get to Fort Myers until Sunday..gives me until the next Sunday before flying home.

all the girls chipped in and Ann ordered a lovely plaque for her garden or in her house..
it's a person silhouette that goes circular on one side and as the person gets smaller it turns into a dove..words of friendship. We will meet Oct 3rd and have dinner with all the girls and give it to Darlene..I'm in charge of spaghetti so guess my weekend project is to make another batch.

Ann leaves Thursday for 2 weeks so will only be back a day, easier if it's pot luck. Ohhh Ann was saying Addy is quickly catching up to Alex..she hadn't seen her in a week and just couldn't believe how much her dexterity has improved, great news.

the not so great news though is the young girl (8) who lives up the street whom the entire community has been fundraising for lost her battle to cancer last night.

Victoria Harbour, ON

omg Jean, thanks..you are so wonderful finding things that are not explained..
how very interesting
going to try the couple of exercises later
on a mission right now but will when I come back from visiting with mom

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jean, just got back from taking mom shopping so will do the exercises that the site had

Called Darlene re our trip to Florida, Geraldine in Florida to see how she is doing today, losing a child must be beyond bearable and then Braedon in British Columsettled was out but I left a long message, 3 hrs difference, forgot about that, likely at supper, I'll make my calls to him on Sunday nights but a tad later

All tired out so off to bed I go

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning all ..
Hope everyone is feeling well (as can be) and looking forward to a good day ..

Only 37F here right now .. no frost on the ground though ..

Off for lunch and a shop with bff Jo later ..
She is starting a weight loss program soon, so, since ALL she'll have is proteing shakes, 4 a day .. we best get FORBIDDEN food in now .. Lorna is also going to be doing this diet .. I just hope they both get the results they want, and, that they can keep the weight off once it's gone ..
DDinL has lost 67lbs since April on these Optifast shakes .. she is on FOOD now, but, showing restraint ..

Sorry to hear of the passing of the little girl Betty .. Lorna had the inglorious task of having to help with a rather large funeral for the little girl that was killed in that family dispute I spoke of a few weeks ago .. broke her heart .. she usually does NOT get involved with the services, but, this one was huge ..

OK .. cuppa time

TOODLES

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Sounds like a fun day "M"
As you say many of these diets are quick fixes and weight back on as soon as they are off..Linda was on some sort of 'shake' but with all medical problems and trips she just couldn't do the program

Weather is much the same here, mthank goodness for furnaces/fireplaces.

Had coffee while looking at what I've got done on my jacket, need more fabric as two of the fabrics are sappy in comparison to others so another trip to the fabric shop .ill wait until this afternoon and visit with mom at same time. Think she over did it a few weeks ago thinking she was healed and now hurts like the dickens..

Must order a slab of cake for her birthday so all the residents can enjoy at supper time and make an appointment for a perm for her on Saturday as a birthday gift.

That is about the extent of my day
