I'm not working this weekend or any other weekend anymore. When I gave up crisis work I reclaimed all the holidays, weekends and a full nights sleep. I do miss working in mental health, I actually miss the crisis work itself except the brutal hours.
Working my bunnies off outside. I'm going to have help on 9/12 and I need to be ready for it!
Debbie, a coworker of mine was bit by a cat this past weekend, was hospitalized on Monday and had surgery Thursday! The cat followed the kids into the house, freaked out when it saw the dogs and coworker was trying to get the cat out of the house when it nailed her good several times. They had to open the abscesses she developed on her hand.
Betty, I'm not sure I agree about not visiting Noah. I know he didn't want you to know, I get that. I guess I feel that people need to understand the total impact of their choices on all the people that love you. He obviously holds you in very high regard and any encouragement you may give him to follow up on meds & counseling will likely have more of an impact than anyone else. He loves you and is not in conflict with you like he is his parents. Just my 2 cents and something I'd like you to consider. You obviously need to make your own decision based on what you think is right.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends old/new
Betty, I agree with Pat. He does need to know how much he has hurt you (although I'm pretty sure he does) and that you love him always no matter what.
Once he is seen by the doctor/doctors and assessed as to wether he will stay or or or I will see if I can visit.
Town is getting quieter, at least my street, tink everyone is on their way home , both cottagers/towns people getting kids ready for school Tuesday.
Pat you've been working like crazy outside, surely there isn't much more to do? Grin
Barb, so glad that Norm is feeling better, must have been difficult working a regular schedule.
Not sure how many are in any class here, think they have a maximum??
Rita dropped in with a friend who quilts, she wanted me to meet her..ever meet someone right from the start who turns you off?? Hmmmm
Guess Rita was so proud of her learning to sew and what she made and this Shirley actually ran it down..she went on to talk about the quilt she is doing, fabric cost $300
Knowing her history as per Rita she wants to do tings but doesn't always follow through. Rita showed her some of my finished pieces and no they aren't perfect and those who get them enjoy them, well she says ' not really quilting ' when you do it by machine...I said no it really isn't but when you give as many pieces away as I do there isn't enough time in a year to do. But a few, besides, I'm a maker, I jump into it, don't leave it in bags for years, Gittttt her done!
I wasn't nice was I?? Just didn't like her running down what Rita was so proud of..when she saw the back of Rita's quilt she said, I'd wait till I can purchase proper backing. Grrrr
Lkely just me, not up to personalities
OUCH... that woman sounds poisonous and I sure would not want her for a "friend"!! Your description of her leaves with me an image of a woman "sniffing" with her nose in the air!! You know the kind!
Ouch, keep away from that woman.
I also agree with Pat. Noah has to learn that his actions have consequences on all of htose who care about hims. And those who care about those who care about them. It's a darn ripple - not all about him.
I'm dealing with godawful heat and humidity. Will leave Tuesday or Wednesday. Appointments Friday morning.
Between the lumpectomy and the kidney stone added to my usual arthritis Ii'm intent on putting one foot in front of the other.
tony will be here tomorrow and we can clean and pack the va. He took it to Santa Rosalia yesterday. With the title in his name and Mexican plates we can both drive it. Helpful as his truck doesn't run real dependably.
Off to do some work on insulation of the front bedroom. If we can get it igloo-like I can work and sleep there and focus on getting other rooms cleaned up and organized. Gradually.
I'm being very grateful for your company.
hugs, katie
Yuk Yuk Yuk That is certainly NOT a friend. I had someone like that once when I was making my girls wedding gowns. She did a sniff with her nose in the air and told me how she put every bit of trim & beads by hand etc. etc. I told her "How nice for you" and walked away.
Maybe it wasn't a day for a visit..just rubbed me the wrong way and usually I'm a very gracious hostess
Likely cut from same cloth
I think we all have run into people like her....sad they have to put others down to feel important themselves. At least that is usually what I have discovered. Betty, first impressions aren't usually all that wrong.
That is my biggest downfall, usually I base wether or not I want to spend time with someone on my first impression..it's either I will love and cherish you forever or I won't take the time to befriend you.
Roger used to give me the what for all the time for that, usually I wasn't proven wrong.
Misery loves company. Some folks are so insecure in life and have such a low opinion of themselves that they can not acknowledge that anything any one else accomplishes in life can be of any value.
They are the nitpickers; destined to be bitter, rude and arrogant. Oh, and very lonely IMHO.
I think of that attitude comes from a scarcity view of life, the more YOU have, the less available to me. Life is NOT like that.. it's abundant and someone else's good fortune does not lessen ours. Take pleasure and celebrate everyone's gifts! Whether that is talent and accomplishments or wealth.
I think the backing on Rita's quilt was fun and colorful! I read a quote by a scrap quilt maker, she said something like, "why have only 4 colors and fabrics in a quilt when you can have 40?" Admittedly I have a soft spot for improvisation cuz I am frequenting "making do" to make things work since I have a very limited budget. Limited budget just means we get more opportunities to be creative and think outside the box.
I had a neighbor who used to come over and criticize everything I was doing. One day I suggested that he should realize that I serve the useful purpose of being a person to whom everyone else can feel superior .kb
OH my!!! did that leave him speechless??? LOL
I remember reading a Dear Abby in which the young lady said that every time she met with her Aunt her Aunt would talk bad about all the people the young lady loved.... finally she told the Aunt "I'll give you 5 minutes to talk bad about anyone you want and then you're done!" I guess that caused a little reality to set in. I think some people get into the habit and do not even realize how negative they are.
LOL katie - how perfect a "reverse put down" was that?!?! I think you have a way with words!
oh, and Pat - that young lady who wrote into Dear Abby had it Just Right!!
Betty - quilters "back in the day" put whatever material they could, together, to make a quilt. More times than not, it was thought the material didn't "go" but when it was finished, it was a thing of beauty, made with love. And do you suppose the ladies, when they got a treadle machine that they would say "it wouldn't really be quilting if I made my life easier and sewed it using electricity". NO, they would Not! They had enough to do with looking after 15 kids, baking and cooking, milking cows and tending to chickens, that anything that made life easier was a blessing.
A quilt is a top, batting, and backing...... whatever colours or patterns, however it's finished. Yes, there's a similarity in the method, but quilts are as different as the person (man or woman) who make it........ That person should not have run down Rita's quilt!!!!!!
So much going on, I'll have to go back and reread the posts. Prayers going out to those in need.
Spent yesterday at a county fair with my son and granddaughter. Kylee will be 2 at the end of Sept. She loved the animals, so that's where we spent most of our time.
This pen of ducks was a big hit, but best of all was the pony rides!
Morning all
cool in the house with a/c on, should put my head outside and see what kind of day it will be..think the sun is coming out.
Kylee is just too adorable, she sure is enjoying being with the duckies and wildlife..what great memories she will have.
you are so right Susan, I really should have remembered where/why/how 'quilts' came into being. I'll be interested in seeing when Rita arrives this morning to quilt her blanket if she saw or felt her friend Shirley and I didn't mix..she did say Shirley was loud, hmmm I'm loud?? maybe another day we would have.
showing you photo's of Rita's baby blanket, her daughter chose the fabrics
I finished binding on the twisted pumpkin pieces this morning..one for me and one for Julie
So....Is Julie getting happy smile or wicked grin? Myself? I'd take wicked grin in the spirit of Halloween.
I think you should keep the wicked grin!!!! I know you can be devious at times when you are keeping secrets!!
I just love Rita's quilt. I'm partial to lime green but I just love it for a little boy. Sure hope she KNOWS what a great job she did on it. Her friend isn't one.......
Black and white are proven to be good stimulation for babies and the green adds an extra punch. Rita needs to be very proud of her job. Extra points for following mom's wishes. You are so right Barb, that was NOT a friend, nor does she need to be.
I will give her your 'kuddo's' to quilting well done..she sure is enjoying it, I'd hate for her to take such comments to heart.
In the tote Rita has here she did 2 tree skirts, one with a lot of blues, she went on that Christmas is reds/whites/greens, she didn't like them having blue in them..well I added that people are starting to create more modern traditional colors and the blue adds to the piece. I'm so wondering if Rita noticed our not hitting it off. Like that though isn't it, can't always be friends with friends friend. Lol
I know in my heart that I'm not jiving with her because she is Rita's friend, I'm always of the mind that the more the merrier...I believe that!
Just went outside, warm but not so hot one needs the a/c on so opened the doors trying to let the sunshine in.
Swept front deck, bluejays and squirrels making a mess with acorns, fed them, had breakfast, on my 2nd cup of coffee and find my mind isn't dong well so up and at it I go, will try to get the 2nd tranquility quilt done than wallow in a stress zone.
What are you all up to today? Something exciting?
Hehehe.... looks like we are all on the same page about the "friend". Betty I'm sure on a "good" day her superior attitude would not have been as abrasive and offensive but she would still have been a JERK and just as rotten. And that's just the word that I can type on DG!! The only difference would have been the magnitude that it got to you.
I love Rita's quilt. The lime green, (especially with pink) is my new favorite color and I found a few plants this year to incorporate outside for the first time. I LOVE my 2 Sweet Potato vines. One is lime green, the other almost black. It's combined with a pink petunia and coleus in pink/burgundy.
I have my DSIL coming about noonish, my DSis, DBIL, my DD coming later today so I have to go out and get my outside work done now. I am going to spray all the round up on the front yard to start killing off all the grass. On the 13th I have a work crew coming to spread gravel so I am trying to ensure it will all be dead in time!
My youngest is out hunting so we have the grandson. On the agenda is a HAIRCUT. His mom had him for 6 weeks and you'd have thought she would make time for a haircut before school started. She may not have had the money....
All the hard work is paying off Pat, your yard is looking so nice. Serious yard envy here.
Saw another neighbor's house with a nice yard. Professionally done, watering system, much enrichment of soil, and tree removal. Just cant afford that.
All that grass will be gone in a couple of weeks and in it's place a BIG gravel drive and semi-circle.
I can't afford that either Karen. I've been out there with my shove. Son helped me yesterday finish the irrigation lines to the "flower island" that will be in the middle of the semi-circle.
Awfully pretty Pat and inviting..you have been busy, no wonder the bones are aching!
Now what will you do once there is only the upkeep left? Do you still have your other home rented?
Shouldn't have stopped for a pieced of cherry pie, after looking at your well manicured lawn I see the sun shinning on the tall grass in the front ditches..hoping I can start the weeder
Maybe I'll wait till after Rita leaves.
Grrrrr! That woman needs her arse kicked!!
Kylie is beautiful!!
I have so much work inside and OUT there is NO problem keeping busy, besides someday I'd like to get back to SEWING!
I love, love, love the quilts! Both Rita's and the fun twisted pumpkins.
Cleaned my 3 hour lady's house this morning. I'm invited to a pool party/lunch at 2:00. I'm trying to decide if I'm up to it! Have to go to the fairgrounds at 5:00 to tear down the flower show and get my fern and ribbons. So maybe I'll go have a little lay-down now and rest up for the rest of the day!
Wow Betty - Rita's baby quilts are the same colour I'm going to make for my soon-to-be grandson (and the colour of the baby sleeping bag I'm knitting)!!
I never thought of black being a stimulant for babies...... I have lots of black patterned quilt material - maybe I should use it for the baby quilt! what a great idea!
Holy Smokes! No wonder you won. I've never seen a rabbits foot so big. It's so lush looking too. Does it live in your shower with a skylight?
I will, I will be able to have a garden and houseplants again.
Barb if you look at the better baby toys, you'll see they are black and white with bright colors added.
Joyce, no wonder you won and teachers pet..what a healthy plant
Hey Joyce you can't get back to sewing as you have no scissors!! Grinning
Susan, I like the colors sooooo am sure I'll be all in awe of your quilt and bag.
Karen, will indeed look in toy department
Getting concerned
No visit from Rita today
Could be many things:
Couldn't believe I wasn't nice to her friend
Company hasn't left
Crissy called and she is having baby
Disappointed in her piece
Just too tired, got all my pumpkin wine glasses coated with sealer, most energetic thing I might be up to is put the rope on later so I can say they are done..like the word DONE
Might give her a call and yet it's late in the day and not so sure I want to be in the craft room, might be time for hot bath and Jammies as I'm starting to feel I'm heading on a downer again
Awwww well worth living in middle of nowhere
Nothing like wildlife
Wonder if "M" overdid it at the fair yesterday?
The heat and humidity suckk the energy out of me and aggravate a nasty skin rash I have. My back hurts from the kidney stone and I'm a little nervous about the upcoming lumpectomy.
Other than that, all is well.
I'll probably leave Wednesday; I have two appointments on Friday morning in San Diego.
Wish I felt better but I am coping. What's funny is that i start to slipinto beating myself up for not getting more work done!! "Give me a break," I tell myself. Suggest you all do the same.
Depending how long I'm gone the weather should be cooling off when I get back.
I did a bit of work in the front garden. We are picking papayas. Yum.
hugs, katie
Katie, just saw the weather and a tropical storm is heading in off the Gulf. Will that affect your travels. Please be careful and rest.
Thats not good, would you be able to change your appointments Katie? Know it's of some urgency for you to go but not worth taking a chance..
Debbie, how is your lef and Paul's bite
I'm here .. just having FITS about what's going on with this allergic reaction to QUININE ..
Am off to our family doc tomorrow at 9am .. it's DH appt, but I am taking it, I am really NOT doing well :-(
Still MEGA itchy, red and peeling skin .. I am SO fortunate we have eye docs appts on Wed coz my vision is also not too good ..
Still thinking it is 'Stevens Johnson Syndrome', perhaps not FULL blown, but still there ..
Kinda scared ..
Will write as I can, or, have Lorna write in my stead ..
HUGS to everyone
~M~
"M" so glad you are going to Dr., this has plagued you entirely too long. Seems too severe a reaction to be just the quinine. Hoping you get a diagnosis and something for relief.
