thought I'd move us over on this beautiful fall day

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1372448/

Start of Labour Day weekend, anything special planned?

Dianne sorry to hear you are not sleeping again, makes for a long night and day.
I would say my most favorite time of the year is fall as well
got to wonder what we think of during the day that brings on these dreams/nightmares??

"M" our fall fairs start shortly as well.

received an e-mail this a.m. re fabric shop workshops, looked at 4 that interested me and each time on a weekend I have something planned

Meaford Applefest, Hamburg Craft Show, weekends I likely will be in Florida so guess I'll plug along on my own.

finished two pumpkin pieces yesterday, now comes chopping it up with the twister template and resew
gave Melanie hers last October..one will be for Julie and one for me..love decorating for fall

Remembered I bought 3 pumpkin panels, not sure if anything will be done with them this year, we will have to see..also doing a tree skirt, for who??? me
Imagine, doing things for me lol

might set a machine outside on back deck for the weekend and enjoy finishing some of these projects as well as enjoying some fall sunshine..

are calling for a bit of rain here and there so we'll see

Betty, I made one of those twister pumpkins last year too. I like making them. They are tedious having to cut and sew twice, but I love the results!

Sorry to hear you ladies are not sleeping well! Hope you get a nap in today!

Barb, bet it was nice to see your family for a day of gabbing!

Katie, how are you doing today?

Well, it looks like I won;t be going to Michigan. I booked my flight, and yesterday I got an email from United, and they said they were so sorry, but I got the wrong price, and they had to charge me another $200.00. They gave me the option of keeping my flight or canceling it! I was not going to pay $600.00 to fly to Michigan! I was so upset!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh Linda so sorry, what a rip-off. That's outrageous. Is there another airline? Maybe try one of those online booking services that claims to get the best deals?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Thanks for the move over Betty ^_^

The Pumpkin pieces are so nice and bright and cheerful .. hope you can sew outside, but, be careful moving the machine !

Lorna's Dad called .. his sister Olive (99) has passed away in Oshawa .. it was expected as she hasn't been well the last few months ..
Lorna knows, but, as the funeral is tomorrow, all we will do is send a donation .. her Auntie was blind her last few years ..

Can hear the BANG/CLANK of road equipment getting closer .. no doubt by about 10am they'll be out front again and I'll have 3 wired dogs all wanting extra attention .. feel bad for them as they don't understand how where their QUIET has gone ...

Barb .. sounds like you had a wonderful day yesterday with your brother and his wife .. nice :-)
Have a good afternoon knitting ..

Dianne, enjoy your walk .. and, as for those dreams, carumba .. like Betty says, where the heck do they come from ??

Off to play Scrabble, or, do laundry .. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

~M~

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have looked, and for the dates I wanted to travel, they all have about the same price. When I booked it yesterday morning, it was $350.00.Today they are all right at $550.00 - $600.00. I don't understand the cost increase?

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning,

Betty, Shane & his GF left on Tuesday to go back to Colorado. They arrived safely, are fixing a few things....and I should hear by tomorrow if he is moving back here for a little bit. I am not counting my chickens before they hatch, but is a big possibility.

Today, I move Kyle up to College. He will be living up there in the dorms, Nate also goes to that college and so does Kyle's GF. SO, is good all the way around.

I am having horrible allergy issues, really driving my eyes crazy this year.

Prayers to those who need. I am off and running for the day, I hope you have a good one.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Linda can you adjust your dates at all? sometimes a day or two can make a big difference.

Sounds like one raised rates and the rest jumped on the band wagon.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have checked dates for 3 months out, and they are all at the higher prices!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - Bob's not in retail, he's with a cleanin company - they do janitorial work.
He's the ass't manager in the warehouse, but sometimes he's called to do "Day Porter" work to cover for someone who's away.
They really like him at his company - say he's very professional looking,in his suit & tie, with his hat :-) Not even the salesmen wear ties!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Holy wahhh LindaKay, thought once you book it it's a fait accompli, can't change their minds..how disappointing is that.

Keep looking, bound to be something..geese I can fly to Florida right now for less, perhaps not but I think so.

Debbie, sip ure hope Shane does move back, would do you both the world of good. Sorry to hear about the allergies! Good for Nate and Kyle, I'm so thankful you have them both.

"M" tell Lorna I send condolences...

Took a quick run into town, can't believe the traffic already, think many are taking extra days off
Canadian tire had a good deall on shelving so I bought a unit, debated about buying 2 for back shed, just know illgo back early tomorrow a.m to buy more, could have saved gas money and bought them today.

They had lovely large planters with flowering kale, mums and trailers so I bought one to sit at the ond. They also have scissors, reg $24.99 for 3' sm.med.lg..every time I see them on sale I buy another package

Would love to spend 4 or 5 hrs in back shed going through totes..what I don't ohhh and ahhh about when I open a bin it goes bye bye..likely a good time seeing its the long weekend to set at the roadside and put FREE to good home

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I think this may answer your questions on airfare

http://www.cheapair.com/blog/travel-tips/air-fares-101-why-do-fares-change-all-the-time/

I hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend. Be safe.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Ya, I like FREE!!! If I lived in your neighborhood some would follow me home!

My husband used my car yesterday and it looks like he had a food fight in there! He dropped a hamburger, what a mess. I'm headed off to work and stop and CLEAN car.

Verona, ON

Betty it is very busy in the village here too. I went early to Foodland and the parking lot was full of trucks pulling boats, trailers, campers, 4 wheelers. Sure hope the weather holds for everyone.

Boys are being naughty this morning. Oh I would love some of their energy. I sure understand about your pups reaction to all the construction noise M. How dare those people interrupt their perfect world. My guys go ballistic when UPS comes as I am usually the only person who drives this far down the lane. I've told my American neighbours who rarely come up when they decide to sell let me know before they list it.. Don't think that is ever going to happen as their boys will take it over. With it being a 5 hour drive for 2 of the boys and over 20 hr drive for the eldest son I don't think the pups and I will ever have to worry about the cottage being used much. Speaking of selling, a cottage on the lane has finally sold after 2 full years on the market. Can tell already the new family will have to have the rules of the lane explained to them. Letting your kids and your dogs run freely through my property is NOT acceptable.Lordy this is only after 1 week of them taking possession. It is a 3 season home so they won't be around in the winter. Can ya tell I love my privacy?

well I had better get the vacuuming done before I try to have a nap or else I will just stew about it and not fall asleep.

Condolences to Lorna and her family for their loss. Poor soul must have felt completely lost losing her eyesight at that age.

M have you read any of Patrick Taylor's books about the Irish country doctor Finigal? Love, love, love them and can't wait for the next book to be released.

Later folks,
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Interesting link Jean, as always you are there when we are concerned about issues..I'd hate to think I saved for airlin tickets, bedgeted and then zappo, new price
How have you been feeling lately Jean? And the gr and son?

LindaKay, did you pay by c.c. Think if you did they have to go with paid price.

Dianne, even though I'm surrounded by neighbors I feel with the lot treed on 3 sides and the back ravine that I'm alne in the middle of nowhere

I too love the quietness, does that mean we are getting older?

Our Foodland is at the lake so much the same, lots of boats being launched today. Guess one calls it the last hurrah of summer

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Jeeze no Dianne, I haven't read any of Patrick Taylors books .. will be on a search now, thank you for the recommendation ..
All Creatures Great and Small is a fave of mine, have a huge load of 'short stories' .. Herriot is my hero, Pharnum too LoL.

Ahhh yes, seclusion and peace .. this property sits way off both roads .. I can see or hear an occasional car go by .. but, this road work is something else .. Ms Wynne must have given us infrastructure money !!
We once had a neighbour up the road about a quarter of a mile .. they let their dog run at large, and, of course, he came HERE .. DH spoke to her, said it was her choice .. she was a nasty itch .. anyway .. the dog got PICKED UP for running deer .. cost her $150. to get it out of the Municipal pound, AND, she came over and blamed US !!! We had nadda to do with the by law officer just coming upon ol Rufus running down a fawn on the road .. sheesh .. at any rate, she moved ..

LindaK .. I am stumped, keep checking CNN to see if anyone else is having the problem you're having .. incredible !!

Laundry is done, shower, done, itchies (fingers crossed, not too bad)

Thank you very much for the condolences re Lorna's Auntie Olive .. Lorna's Dad is now the last surviving family member ..
Apparently a cousin of Lorna's, collapsed in a shopping mall yesterday .. not sure how long she was without oxygen, she had had a heart attack ..
Life can sure kick ya in the butt sometimes ..

Time to go outside with the 'whiney mopies' ^_^

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, forgot marshmallows and want to set fire to burning pit a bit latter...best I find something I can say I'm cooking should fire dept come

Need to burn as they are calling for rain

"M" and Dianne, have you noticed how expensive hamburg is?? Wanted to make hamburger tomatoe maccaroni, wow could have had t bone steak dinner for same price, best I don't burn it. Lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ok

WHICH ONE OF YOU were suppose to help me watch I didn't burn anything

Grrrrr

Lucky I came n when I did..pot I think is a gunner, luckily I had turned tomatoes and hamburg on low soooo off to light some candles and open the doors to get rid of the yuk

On the good side,

Put up the shelf, might get another tomorrow, burnt what was in the firepit, got rid of those big piles of limbs and grapevine, almost cost me price of a burnt house but......

Off to open windows

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LMAO Betty ... I am laughing so hard ..
SO sorrry re the mac casserole ... I's love to make one of those ..
But, set a timer LoL

MARSHMELLOWS .. we keep a package of weiners near when we do the fire pit fire, which, we haven't done ALL summer .. we have used the chimenea ..
NO fires tonight, been pouring rain for quite some time .. likely into the night ..

Great to hear you're happy with the shelving .. might have to go and have a look ..

Time to think up supper (fish n chips)

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

4 shelves, made in that hard durable plastic..easy to put together, yep, need me another one for she'd and one for laundry room, will have to do measurements.

Got a good handle on major work I needed done outside this afternoon, will cut grass over the weekend and then I can play.

I don't do Mac abd cheese, it's cook hamburger/onions then add cooked Mac and put it over mashed potatoes. Not being a cook and we know why. Lol I didn't realize there was chili tomatoes..yuk, think it took over the taste.

Verona, ON

Betty do you have a fire ban on? We haven't had one since June. A few years ago the farmer next door was burning waaaay back in - at least a mile from the township road - someone with a cell called FD claiming there was an out of control bush fire. Poor Floyd got stuck with a huge fine - personally I think the guy with the cell should have been the one to pay the fine. The farmer was fined as the FD (we are volunteer) came out on an unnecessary call. Sure glad you were able to salvage your casserole. I love a tomato/hamburg/macaroni dish. And yes hamburg is very expensive this summer. I just bought some grapes this morning and almost fainted when I saw the cost on the receipt. Good thing I didn't look at it in the store.

Didn't answer your 2 questions about craft show season Betty - nope I have no hankering to go to a show but I might relent and either go to One of a Kind or the Ottawa Christmas Craft Show. More of a social visit than anything plus I see my box where I keep 'gifts' is pretty bare. I also have absolutely no desire to do any SG. I got rid of all of my equipment and supplies. I have 1 piece of SG hanging in the den and that is it. That piece is 1 I designed of a native Spirit Lady and it just calls to me. I think having the shop in our house with the glass in my face 24/7 just got to me. My sense of smell is coming back - I swear I cauterized my nose from soldering so much. Plus the feeling in the tips of my fingers is back. Using the grinder took a toll on them.

M you will love Patrick Taylor's books. There are several and he keeps the same characters. He lives in Canada now. He is a MD himself. His site is www.patricktaylor.ca Have you heard of the village of Ballybucklebo?

LK I am shocked that the airline won't honour your ticket price. It is not your fault they made the error.Perhaps a call to the local radio or TV station explaining you were going to visit your dad who has been very ill and was delighted when you found this flight at such an affordable price might help your cause.

Mary how are things at the shop? Business picked up for you? I so want to bring Diesel and Duke for the doggie gelato.

Never did get my nap so I hope that means I will sleep well tonight. A girl can hope!
Dianne

Verona, ON

Fish and chips sounds soooo good. Remember when the take out F and C used to come wrapped in newspaper?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I will be heading off to bed wether I sleep or not..creating all kinds of problems for myself, put the burnt pot on the range with salt/soda in hopes to salvage the pot..didn't help much so I set it on the counter and with spoon started to gouge some of it loose...owww splashing boiling water on my tummy hurts..red burn mark (shakingmyhead head)so think I'd be safer n bed.

Dianne no burn ban but municipality is not allowing fire pit fires unless it's for cooking..crazy

I go from one craft to another, when I tire it's onto a new one.

Do have a few pieces I need for Xmas though..few of those snowflakes and a window piece of Georgian bay.

I saw a spirit piece somewhere, absolutely gorgeous..perhaps one day you can post post a photo of yours. Would be ice for you to visit the One of a Knd, I'm hoping to this year!

Not only I that is having a time of it, neighbor cutting grass but he is hitting more rock than cutting of grass

Think he is trying to beat the rain..looks like it will start any minute.

Verona, ON

Meaford is next weekend, right? I always loved doing that show. We always stayed at the Hilltop - a true 1950's motel. It was sparkling clean though. I think Randy used a toothbrush when he cleaned the tiles in the BR each day. The tub was 1 of those short tubs that were all the rage back in the 50's.

Victoria Harbour, ON

No it's 1st weekend in October, weekend before our Thanksgiving.
was thinking of taking a ride tomorrow or Sunday and visit the boutiques, candle factory and warehouse but then I'd have to contend with traffic..might as well wait until the Applefest.

isn't this orange pretty, should bring out the oranges in the pumpkin once it's cut and resewn

Verona, ON

That's right. It is Kleinburg next weekend.The couple who have the candle factory used to do the show circuit - well not 1OAK but the smaller shows;

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, put about 1/2 cup dishwasher detergent in the pot and add hot water to cover burned area. Let soak a couple hours. Might have to repeat but takes the work out of it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Never been to Kleinberg, Lordy one. Old just use up every weekend doing these events

Thanks Karen,will try that

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

OMG - Norm just picked up an antibiotic and the co-pay was $60.00!! The customary price is over
$1300.00 for 42 pills - 2 a day for three weeks. If this doesn't cure his runs I don't know what will!!!!
Somewhere about three weeks ago he picked up a touch of e-coli and has been miserable.

Knitting was very interesting today. We had a speaker from the American Red Cross come and talk about CPR and the AED machine (automatic electronic defibrilator) and also about the Heimlich manuever . Very interesting and also about how to tell if someone is having a stroke. The speaker said she has never had such a quiet group of people to talk to!!!! We were all so interested.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

What great topics to discuss and learn about Barb, one never knows when you will need the knowledge.

Poor Norm, wow, that is an expensive med, here is hoping it will help him.

Have you started your sweater?

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, I have started it. I start at the back of the neck and work down to the armholes. So far, I'm about half way there. I'll try for pictures in the morning. Then you do the fronts down to the armholes and then join them all together and knit down until it is as long as I want it to be. Then do the sleeves. I am planning on taking my time with it and I'm thinking it will make a nice Spring sweater.....

From Ellen: I'm going to adopt a dog. It wasn't my first choice but my doctor told me I can't have one biologically.

Hello everyone
Jessica's birthday went well.
ate to much, got bad diarreah. yuk.
Steve Jessica's dad said a mean thing on FB to me. . He apologized. They had a death in the family recently , a cousin 20 yrs old died monday in a drunk driving accident . SO i m sure he was just emotional. Someone commented on His wifes FB and said " i know you both know what it is like to loose a child. " well that didn't sit with me at all !!! how the heck does his wife know what its like to loose a child ! , her kids are alive. grrrrrrr. sorry had to vent .

Thumbnail by Thumbnail by Thumbnail by
mulege, Mexico

I think the death of a child is a wound that never heals. Makes the insensative comments harder to cope with.

hugs, katie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb it sounds confusing knitting it that way but imagine there is little to sewn when completed.

Katie, your Ellen post made me chuckle

Sue, emotions run high during these times..I would imagine she lived this nightmare with Steve and hurt as well..one can't imagine what you all went threw..know I can't..

Just got back to bed after having a hot bath and taking a gravol, sometimes it makes me sleep.
Watching a movie, will give this sleep think another hour and if sleep doesn't come I will get up and start my day, can always nap later

You sleeping Dianne?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning ..
Katie, LOL at the Ellen comment hahahah ..

Barb, any chance Norm has picked up C Diff ?? Sometimes the antibiotics will make the 'runs' worse, he had best know where all the bathrooms are .. feel bad for him ..
Your sweater sounds lovely, crafty I am NOT !!
Learning about the AEDs is a good thing, as, they're becoming quite popular at events now ..

Betty, sorry bout the pot, hope Karens recipe for a fix up worked for ya ..

Dreary day, but, blissfully QUIET, NO road construction .. YAY!!!

Off to get gas and propane and some steaks

TOODLES

~M~

Verona, ON

I was asleep when you posted Betty but got up soon after. Haven't been able to get back to sleep so I think I too will take a gravol and hope it allows me a nap.Started a new book, a true story called Soldier Girls. It is very good.

Quite cool outside but supposed to be over 80 today. I'll take the cool!

Nothing much going on here today. If I don't drift off I will trot over to our very small farmers market. I would like Duke to get some exposure to people so will take him along.

Enjoy your day ladies!
Dianne

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gravol and hot bath worked like a charm, slept in till just after 7
Fall morning but promises to be an ace of a day, winds up though and yes, I prefer cooler days, we sure will get loads of them shortly. Actually time to close a few windows, burnt smell almost gone. Pot might be salvageable.

So quiet this morning, everyone must be sleeping so again I will wait a bit before cutting the grass, by 11am to bad so sad I'm cutting.

Duke will enjoy the outing..too much energy needed to take Diesel out

Squirrels are picking up acorns like crazy, they must know something they aren't telling me. Lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Went downstairs to sew a bit, back acting up so upstairs with feet up

Oops phone just rang, she is halfway through a baby quilt, grandson to be born shortly, wants to come over to have a sew day as the weather isn't the best...
Didn't have the heart to say 'no' so off to find take pain meds and look on top of the world.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Ugggggggggggg .. uggggggggggggg.. ugggggggggggggggg ..
I read Saturday's paper from Thunder Bay (The Chronicle Journal) online on Saturday mornings instead of walking down to the road and taking it out of its holder .. dontcha know .. 2 'friends from the past' have passed away, as well as a colleagues Mom (a nurse)
Feel kinda squidgy ..
Parvin apparently was in a boating accident, and, Fran had cancer .. both of these women were free spirits and FULL of love for the world ..
WInd outta my sails, will be rowing today I guess ..

~M~

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I've never head of Gravol, I must look it up! Anything to help with sleep. I have some prescription stuff that works but I am only allowed a VERY limited amount, it amounts to maybe 3 or 4 per month and they make me sleep for hours and hours, and wake up groggy. I don't need that!

M, Sorry about the loss of your friends. Some people make the world a better place, they sound like they were some of the best.
