Chat on sistahs!
Did more weeding and I'm happy to note that no bugs followed me since I use Vicks!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good choice of bug deterrent Jaye! Helps with the sinus' too!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Yes, Jaye, tears..... :(

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Awww.... Cookie... me sad too.

Yes LK, sure did open up the sinuses!

I can't believe the area I cleared today. Tomorrow it's off to get some new glasses, and hopefully I won't be too tired to weed after that.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Had my eye checked from the last cataract surgery and the bubble the doctor was watching clear itself up. Of course, he did tell me that might happen. On the other hand I have to have the lens for that eye changed again as the vision isn't what it should be. Minor detail!!

The tree ladies: This is one of 2 dead trees I have been arguing with the HOA with about having cut down but no! they wanted it left for the birds (woodpeckers) to peck on. Last year the top of one feel about this time and yes it went across the driveway. The other dead one also lost it's top the other night and again...across the driveway. I am about to have a "heart to heart" chat with the committee chairman (lives across from me) about just who is going to pay for damages IF one of these dead trees they want left should happen to fall and damages occur.

Cookie I will keep my blue herons here as I would hate for you to lose some koi as bird food. Not good at all.

LK continuing with your dad on my prayer list. It is so hard watching/watched our parents who were so strong and active become so frail.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'd think the committee should pay for any damages unless you sue the woodpeckers! So sorry you have to face the aggravation of trying to work with an eco conscious committee.
Well Marion, me glad the bubble's gone, but so sorry that you'd have to have that lens changed. Might be minor detail for u, hope it won't include pain.

Gonna watch some taped shows. Perhaps this will put me to sleep fast!
Good night sistahs!

Any one know Plant or Weed???

Thumbnail by siliolegma
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Looks like it may be a squash, cucumber, gourd???

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Is it a vine?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

No not a vine, here's another pic.

Thumbnail by siliolegma
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Looks like holly hock?

http://www.walterreeves.com/gardening-q-and-a/hollyhock-identify-seedlings/

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My thought too Linda.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Is this growing at your place? I take t you did not plant them? Maybe a bird did?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

No it's at my DIL's brothers next to his tomatoes. He was worried it was poisonous. I'm thinking it is Hollyhock. Told him to wait a few days and see how it blooms.

I bought the neatest thing today..mostly because Amelia was so crazy about it... It's a hanging pot with strawberries in it. It is sending out the runners and they get the berries too. It will make fruit all summer and Amelia loves strawberries. Now to get her to realize she has to wait until they are ripe.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

A good morning and French Roast coffee is ready! Do I hear someone says make it lethal? Is that you LK? Or our MaidM?
Been up since 6 Did some chores, thought I'd weed some before appt. but who woke up the mosquitoes? Ran back in, not going to apply Vicks yet!

Karen, I've never grown hollyhocks, can't help you there!
A trailing strawberry within reach to Amelia means "Good Luck" LOL
Plus you would be repeating yourself answering her questions.

Have a great weekend everyone

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm just buying her strawberries until these are ripe. We went through a quart in just a few minutes yesterday, between Amelia and the two tots across the street who come to play. Don't worry about my saying street, it's not really. The road ends before us, then there is a two track and our turn around so basically no traffic except us. For the odd vehicle, I have signs warning to go slow it's private property and children are playing. We've made a little playground for them too so they are not in the "street", and of course parents are always present.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Thanks for the coffee Jaye! Maybe the strong coffee with chase away this darn cough that won't go away!

Karen, sounds like you have a safe place for the kids to play?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You had a severe bout of sinus infection LK, so the cough won't go away till later. I am still having the coughs, and me staying out in the heat, will make it worse.

That's good to read that the kids have a safe area to play in Karen.
We have a little rural road in front, coming from the main road, that leads to the tobacco fields. Though we don't have any kids, plenty of times, I had to flag down 4 wheelers to slow down on acct of the kitties. I had asked Kel to put up a sign that says Private Property, but he says the track actually belongs to the farmer and we are allowed to use it for as long as we're maintaining it. Kel just doesn't like confrontations when the first suggestion before that was a chain across!

You'd be supporting the strawberry farmers Karen!!! Oh by the way, how's Walt doing after his ER visit?

Catch you all later!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We are OK with people turning around here but keep a careful watch that there is no speeding.

Walt is doing fine with his hand, Can't get him to be careful anyhow. He's one of those that doesn't feel pain like the rest of us. First thing he did was knock the wrapping off, I made him re-do it as Dr. had said to keep it on 1 day. Today he and DGS are going to pick up a hutch for our newest rabbits. Found a good deal on a multi-cage and he won't have to build so that is good.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Post pictures of your bunnies please?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

White & black are the doe and her babies that were given to us, or at least the doe was babies were a surprise bonus. Not sure of her breed.

Other three are does we just got this week. They are Flemish giants or will be when they get grown up. They are very sweet, have been handled a lot. These will have new hutches tomorrow.

Amelia has to go with Walt every day to feed them and bring them carrots.

AWE! They are so pretty.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

What a day I've had. First of all I thought I had a doctor appointment so got ready, son dropped me off and when I went to check in I found out today is the 27th not 30th. Have the 30th on my calendar too. So mad at myself (I had fasted because I knew they would be blood work done) but I did have to go over to hospital pharmacy to pick up Darwin's Senna. By this time I'm so tired of walking, but decided to take a bus home. Turns out the bus doesn't go the same route as it used to. I ended up in places I've never been and ended up going back with the bus driver and told me where to get off to take a Norwalk bus. A couple hours had lapsed and I was worried about Darwin. When I finally did get home I found him soaking wet so more laundry to do. Sleeping most of the day too. Now, I have to repeat the trip to doctor again on Monday morning. He told me what bus to take and transfer to another. Honestly I'm thinking I need someone to take me by the hand and take me around. I couldn't wait to fix myself something to eat. Best part of the trip on the Metro bus is it cost me only 25 cents. Norwalk bus charges seniors more than double that price. Time for a nap now.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about your morning Pegi!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pegi can't you have someone stay with Darwin when you have to leave? So sorry that was unnecessarily stressful for you.

FU, United States(Zone 9b)

HeavenScape, ... sounds like you bust your butt in your yard like I do. Have you ever tried using medium size loppers? They can cut through things really well. The blades are curved but not real long. The handles are long though.
I use them to cut through my 2/1/2 inch fruit-tree branches, etc.
Once heard if you rub Fabric Softener Sheets on your clothing it might deter mosquitoes, not sure on that though.

Siliolegma, maybe it's just a pretty weed, just don't know what it is :]

Trimmed the petunias today, hoping they will produce new branches and look more full once again. They were suffering in the burning sun the past week. Watering them often. Coneflowers growing slow too, leaves on them are turning brown in the hot sun, but look like they are growing new leaves, so will just wait on them to hopefully pull through.

Getting lots of thunderstorms with non-stop lightning & rain, very pretty, but can't try to photograph those, too dangerous.

Photos: Front of part of my house (photographed 3 weeks ago).
My white Pentas Bush with bees flying around it (photographed a week ago).
My old Maine Coon cat sleeping (He's 13 years old).

Hope things start to improve for many of you. {{Hugs to all of you}}.

Took a benadryl, so now am tired as heck, gotta go take a snooze.

So far the softener sheet just seems to draw in the mosquitoes. I think there are so many this year that nothing will deter them.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Beautiful fat rabbits, Karen. I need an Amelia here to feed the kitties! That's good that Walt won't have to do any carpentry for the rabbits. Yes, he have to let that thumb heal!

Pegi, I'm so sorry that you got the date wrong! Don't be so hard on yourself. You've been under so much stress, your mind suffers, even though you tried your darndest best to remain upbeat. At least you get a little mini tour, cheap, cheap. Hugs dear sistah.

Your house is beautiful and the front, immaculate, Christina. Love that pentas pic. Awesome photography.
My heart dropped when I looked at the third pic. We lost our Maine Coon that looked just like yours to coyotes a couple months back. Him and 2 other rescues were hauled away by roaming coyotes. Pictures of Marley are on the other pc.
I think that's what I have, the midsize loper. Easy for me to handle. As for Bounce, it worked for me last year, just tucking one in waistband and another on my hat.. but I went with Vicks as there are too many along with the pesky gnats and flies!

My glasses and check up cost $180!! That's waaaaayyy cheaper than what I used to pay. In fact half the cost! And 2 pairs mind you, I didn't get bifocals, but one for reading and another for driving!
Yay!

Slow and steady rain that the garden needs very much, so no weeding this afternoon. Can't wait for tomorrow to attack another area.
I really should have Kel do it, but MIL is up to her old charades. As long as I have some energy, hopefully all my daylilies don't have to compete with the weeds!!

FU, United States(Zone 9b)

HeavenScape, ... Thank You for the photo compliments :]
I am "so sorry" about your cats that you lost! :[
Mine stay indoors, but can go out in the "enclosed screened-porch" out back.
They are kept busy with lots of toys and getting to watch out windows. (If I try to bring one of them outdoors, they freak-out). But they like the 'Screened-in' porch though.

I did not think 'Bounty Softener Sheets' would work that well, so never bothered trying them. It was just something I read.
I wonder if garlic & vics-vapor-rub would be the ultimate thing to use.

'You Rock' Heavenscape, keep strong and attack those weeds the best ya can, when you are able to :]

Photo: .... My old Maine Coon sitting on his butt. (His name is Pudgy).

FU, United States(Zone 9b)

Heavenscape, .... Believe me, this house here is not immaculate. -- Had to fix the AC, replace the Water-Heater, replace the refrigerator and clothes dryer. The roof started leaking.
The thin stucco on the outside of the house is cracking everywhere and ready to fall on the ground. --- Severe, thick, cracks in the garage.
The small 'side-door' in the garage is ready to fall down.
The front door is bowed, which lets air and insects through it. The pipes, tiles and faucets will need repaired soon. House was built in 2004.
I'm fed-up with it, lol.
My lawn has no Watering-System, so my "perfect, unhappy, sociopathic, neighbor" next-door will have to put-up with my grass being brown and dead for many months each year.
My white vinyl fence in the back yard is now stained with gray and green colors. And my driveway is stained with dark gray colors.
Not quite all I was going for, lol.

:]

We keep the ones that need medications, in the house, Christina. Marley loved it outside. He and the ones outdoors consider Kel's workshop as home. But the woods are all around us, and we never had coyotes before. I should have followed my intuition when I was thinking of making Marley stay indoors... but then.. some rescues have feline influenza and I don't want him to catch it. :(
At my pc now, so here he is.

Thank you for the encouragement. I can either purse my lips at the lemons or make lemonade, right? At least I'm getting some workout!

Our home will always be WIP, Christina!! Thank God for the isolation!!!

That is a gorgeous Maine Coon, Heavenscape. Hope he returns soon.

Maine Coon cats are smart as heck. That's all I gotta say right now :]

Siliolegma, ... You are right, it is most likely that we will have to figure-out at what time to go outdoors to avoid the mosquitoes. ... But that may mean we have to go outdoors when it is hotter out during the day.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

That's about all that has worked for us. Tonight is a nice breeze so it's keeping them off us at the campfire.

Kids have finally all gone to bed but we are awaiting DGD & family, within the hour.

FU, United States(Zone 9b)

Siliolegma, ... So cool you can have campfires there where you are. --- I am petrified to have a campfire or even a wood-grill going here. Too dry most often, so too scary. ... I would most likely get yelled-at If I tried doing so.

Have an awesome night :]

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Awww bunnies are so cute. I had a couple rabbits when I was young and my boys had a rabbit too. Bunnies are pets, so no way am I going to eat one. Us city girls are so spoiled when it comes to being on a farm or just raising rabbits for foods.

Jaye, I have my wind spinner up at the end of the garage, have to take a picture for you. I just hope no one decides to take it. Or, I could hang it from the patio cover, but don't think I get much wind there.

OK, got to change a few things around here. Very early this AM I heard Darwin mumbling so thought it might be an imaginable friend. When I got up I found him on the floor, he said he slipped out of bed. I'll bet he got himself into a position to fall. I tried to get him up, got my son to finally come and help me and we finally got him back in bed. He said I should ask the two guys that were there, well if I could have seen them I would have made them help me. He still talks about going into the bedroom and no way is that going to happen. Going to ask for full bars on the bed, I should have told the nurse that last Wed. when she suggested it. He seemed to be well contented when he was finally settled back in bed, even got him to drink a vanilla instant breakfast. We watched a cooking show, which made me hungry, but not him. I should be a volunteer for tasting all the food they cook. I usually don't sit in front of TV very long, but Big Brother is on again and Monday starts second season of Under the Dome so I will be watching more TV than usual.

wow i need to catch up !
not much going on here
prayers for Jaye , Cookie ,Darwin. I do hope Darwin is ok from his fall out of bed ?
Marion how are you feeling today ? how is the weather ?
Karen i have bunnies but they are dwarf bunnies and if we wanted to eat them, we would starve LOL . They are my son's 4 H bunnies. This is his last year doing bunnies and i m glad lol
Pegi i hate when i mix up my dates too. I get so mad at myself. :(
good night sistah's
see you in the morning

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Got my patient settled for the night, I hope. He seems to be OK from the fall, just hope I get sides on the bed so he can't "slip out".

I know about dial a ride, but really never looked into it for me. I should have made plans to take it to the doctor, but I know you have to give them advance notice. Will check it out for sure. I think it is $1.00 each trip which is pretty good. Will go on the web site and find out all about it. I could get a volunteer to take me too, but none available right now. At least when I have a doctor appointment I know I have plenty of time to call the transit service. I was told that I can get the volunteer for 2 to 4 hours a week.

Jaye, I decided to try your Dunkin Donuts coffee. It is a little expensive for the small amount you get, but I'm the only one who drinks coffee around here. I didn't know it came in all different flavors, but I bought the original and I do think it is a good cup of coffee. Of course, my Irish Creme coffee creamer is an important part of my cup of joe.

Late so it is off to bed with my kindle. Will read until my eyes start to close.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Everyone as been so chatty. Been busy the last couple of days trying to get some much needed things done. Took several bags of worn out towels, sheets, etc to the Humane Society in Bainbridge, GA....where Kim adopted her cat "Cattley Guava" so we donate there. Scraping paint spots from the floor in the dungeon getting ready to move in; trying to find some tile to match the current tile for kitchen backsplash and things of that sort. I be tired!!

Christina, my sister has been telling me about the thunderstorms going on in your part of the stay. We don't need all the storm elements but sure could use some more rain.

Pegi, I so wish I were closer to help you. This is such a stressful time in your life that I am not surprised about the mix up on the doctor's appointment. I should tell you some of the things I did during this time. Then, maybe not.....you all might think I haven't recovered. :-0

Waving to all. Have a glorious day!!
