My nice quiet house is broken up again. This time it's cause I rescued 2 about 3 week old kittens that have to be bottle fed every 2 hours. They are so cute and soft. I have to go to town for a couple of hours in the morning, so my nephew is coming over to take care of them til I get back. I have to pick up my passenger at 9 am so I hope he is up at that time. I will feed them before I leave and it he doesn't show up they will be alright until I get home. I'll just watch my time. They will be very hungry when I get back. I'm going to pick up a jar of strained baby food, meat, to let them try it. O can thin it with their milk and try it with the dropper. For being about 3 weeks old, they are very tiny I don't think they have been getting enough milk from their mother, whoever she is.

O Marti how precious. Yes, you qualify for sainthood. Maybe the kittens are the universe's way of giving back to you? :)

Tomorrow folks, is my master's defense/presentation. So my sleep schedule is whacked again. I'm only dropping a quick note then back to work.

I will be all "Amen, Hallelujah!" when I am on my way out of there tomorrow afternoon. At least I hope so. :)

Then what will I do?! I will join Marti in job hunting.

Ju - meant to say that's a lovely zinnia up there.

Carrie - enjoyed seeing another one of your written articles here on DG.

Baja - thanks for the allowance. I promise not to break the rulz again as long as my screwy sleep schedule holds out.

How is everybody out there?!

(Ahem.) CONGRATULATIONS TO AMANDA!!!!!!

I am so glad for this thread. DH is up for work, and I am just up.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Well, my 2 little roommates are doing well. Just got done feeding them. They are eating now every 3-4 hours and I want to introduce them to solid food in the way of strained baby meat, but don't have any money right now.

I have a job interview on Thursday the 21st. Keep me in your prayers that I get the job. I need to bring in some extra money. I signed up for a program called Ëxperience Works. They help 50 and over find jobs and training. I can work thru them for 48 months, thats a long time. 4 yrs.
If I get this job I will be working in the Somerset City Hall doing filing, scanning of documents and general office work. I did that for almost 8 yrs so I have the experience. I will be allowed to work 20 hrs a week at minium wage, but it is the extra money that I need.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Everyone has exciting changes happening! Im just , lying swake and thinking.

It was so warm and humid, I got up to check the thermostat amd here e are !

Sure would like God to sing me to sleep with a nice thunderboomer storm and gentle soaking rain...

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Well, I'm up also. Waiting for the rain! Today I have an appointment with a lawyer about the deed to my property. I paid off the landcontract now the guy claims I owe another $400.00 for insurance. He said he paid the first yrs insurance fees for my sister and she owes him the money. The problem is it is not in writting anywhere and my sister pasted away and I don't know anything about it. He says I have to take his word for it and that it was a "gentleman's agreement"between him and my sister and he refuses to give me the deed to the property until I pay him the $400.00 I'm going to see what a lawyer says about it.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Just fed the babies and hope they go back to sleep for awhile. They have outgrown the eyedropper and I need to get them a bottle. Also want to start them on solid food. Maybe some tuna or strained chicken baby food. I've got another 3 weeks before they can go to their new owners. I will be so glad when that time comes.I have enough animals with my 4 cats and mini dachund to care for.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Marti, I am not a lawyer, but if that old man doesn't have something in writing, too bad for him.

Take it to Judge Judy if you need to.

She would say "if you have no proof in writing, it never happened !"

hugs, sleep well toonite ! (eneryine)

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Marti - I AM a lawyer and I endorse Baja's opinion. ;)

There is the contract aspect.

There is also an evidentiary rule called the "dead man's rule" which would bode well in your favor, I think. Means that a dead person's word can't be used against them since they are not available to defend themselves or testify.

Sounds like you have a bead on a good work opportunity.

My master's work is about contemporary water quality in NC and potential impact of historical land use (here, textile mills, but all industry, really). It's an area that has not been studied, surprisingly. Maybe I'm the first! I've already been invited to give my presentation at a few non-profits. Could turn into work! :D

I've got some temporary full-time work lined up in September. I'm not sure how long I'll give myself before I start looking beyond NC if I can't find a suitable position right away.

Will keep you posted, naturally. Glad to have a home on line here at DG.

Sleep well, minions!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Amanda, to bad I can't hire you to handle this guy for me. I went to my appointment with a lawyer at legal aide only to find that he had resigned and they have no other lawyer to help me so I'm back to sq one. I can't afford to hire a lawyer for several hundred dollars to deal with this so will have to wait for legal aide to come up with something.

I finally got a pet bottle for the kittens and they took right to it. They seem to enjoy the act of nursing and so the bottle is helping them.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Marti, I didn't realize you had "new owners" for your little friends!

Amanda, your "minions? " in the sense of your vassals, or the French sense, your darlings? Hmmmph, I shall take this under advisement.

Quite a thunderstorm keeping me awake. Pip the cat is scared, so I comforting him and telling him that he is safe with me. The SU is sleeping on the futon with his bronchial hacking as a bed companion.

I have to be at DS#2's place before 7 to get the grands......fun with the Little Buddies today. They are 11 and almost 9. Fun ages.

We are adding a sunroom to the house...it is looking good so far.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Marti, I think you should pick the phone and call
a lawyer from the yellow pages and ask if they
will accept a simple pro bono case.

It would be nice if you could get this resolved
before the new year, and I sincerely believe it will be simple to resolve.
Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

You cant lose anything by asking !

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh Anna go back to sleep.

Marti I am home from Alaska. The fishing was great the weather spectacular and the whales came close but the fish catching was poor. One Salmon over 30 pounds for four people was not so good. I did catch 19 halibut so I came home with a nice box of white gold about 50 pounds. My ex bil and his squeeze got about 130 pounds to share. All in all it was a great trip and a lot of fun. You can send the tubers any time now I am rested up.

I agree lawyer up that seems to me a simple case. A lot of firms have advocates who gather all the pertinent facts and then the lawyer takes the findings to the game and crushes the bum.

Years ago when I raised dogs some times we had one or two who needed help. My vet said to me if you have to supplement feed them use goats milk cut with equal amounts of water and an egg yoke. Then he said after they are nursing nicely start adding baby cereal to start them on solids. I worked great never lost a pup. Once we did 11 goldens from about two weeks. What a work deal that was.

Never fear Amanda you will find something soon after you start looking which should probably be now. At least you should begin the probe process in earnest right now. most employers will wait to hire the sharp person.. You are eye easy and obviously smart so the hunt will end quickly.

Just got done feeding my 2 little roommates. They are growing and trying to find something to chew on. I hope my nephew's girlfriend comes there with the $20.00 she said she would give me to help pay for their food, than I can get some strained baby meat to try them on. They tried to eat one of the dog's snacks but she caught them and took it away from them. That was her reward for helping with the babies. I feed them and she cleans them up.

I've trie to find a lawyer that would help me. No such luck! And I just don't have several hundred to pay for help.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Me thinks a bunch of you are sleeping. Do you not hear the alarm?

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Reveille reveille get up get up you sleepy things.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ack! I just spent a looong time talking about klonazepam. I've been addicted to it for years.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

what is klonazepam
?

Amanda how is the job hunt going ? Any nibbles?

Marti I am home now you can send bulbs anytime I am ready for them I have lots of room.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Please, the rulez! :-)

Klonazepam is drug in the same family as Valium, but it is much stronger. I started taking when I was first diagnosed with MS. Because it's so addictive, stopping it has lots of bad side effects. It's usually just prescribed in lower doses for anxiety, I guess, but I was taking it to lessen the muscle spasms I get from MS.

You have to have the prescribing doctor's DEA # and you have to be in the right state. You can't just stop suddenly. The doctor who first prescribed it retired years ago. Everyone else just kept writing the prescriptions for it.

So I decided I wanted to stop taking it. There are much better ways of treating spasticity, and I wanted to see what life was like without klonazepam making everything a little fuzzier. So I talked to all mydoctors. One of them said oh, you've been taking it for so long, if it ain't broke don't fix it, blah blah blah, but one said I see why you would want to stop taking it, and another said ok, take 0.75 mg for a month then 0.5 then 0.25 and see how it goes. My husband was really worried, which probably made me even more determined to try to get off it.

I guess it just made feel drugged. Doctors had just stopped it suddenly once or twice, which is a little scary. When your pupils are dilated everything seems overexposed or washed out, and you can hear people talking to you but it seems like they're far away. Too weird!

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Well, here it is 2:15 am and I'm wide awake, can't get to sleep. The humidity here is terrible. I'm still runnin with 3 fans going high speed in my bedroom and sweating in the rest of the trailer. I will have to buy more fans for the rest of the place. I tried going into my craft room to work a little while but felt something on my legs. When I looked down my legs were crawling with fleas, so I sprayed flea spray and nearly socked myself to death from the spray. It was Raid I sprayed in there. Now I'm letting it air out ad hoping to get back inthere later.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Marti I have been in KY twice both once in Nov and a cold wind blew the whole time. The second time it was May and the weather was real nice.

Sounds like you need to catch all the grown kitties and give them the flea treatment. They make a lawn spray that gkills them in the grass.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

ernie, May this yr was rainy and thunderstorms frequently. Now its hot, humid and dry.
I usually have the bug man come spray the house and yard every other month. I owe him for three months so have asked him not to come until I get him caught up. I had my niece and her husband living with me since Feb and now I'm in the red. Than they snuck out and moved to Richmond without a word to me. And they left owing me money. That's why I'm in the red, covering the extra utilities they caused.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Fleas sounds awful, but so does your Raid experience!

Here I am right on schedule at 3:05 am, local.

My daughter had terrible trouble with bedbugs this summer and is now battling cockroaches. Yuck.

in my town there is a pool with water slides a lazy river and kiddie areas. We have been trying to get the grandchildren there all summer, but they finally came yesterday. They're all like Energizer bunnies, going and going . They are 14, 8, 11 and 4. We all had fun, but Ray and I had to go lie down while they were still at it. Thank goodness for their parents.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

My sister and I battled roaches when we lived in San Bernadino, CA. We found that if you can bomb your house every 6-7 days and you will see a big reduction in roaches. We did that for 3 months and only saw a roach now and than. Of course, the whole nieghborhood went in on it and that helped. At first no one wanted to admit they had roaches and everybody bombed at different times so you chased the roaches from one house to the next and back. Once the nieghborhood got together and decided to talk, they realized that we all needed to bomb the same night. So every Saturday night people made plans to be out of the house for at least 4 hours and we call bombed at the same time, same day. The first couple of times we did it we could scoop the dead roaches up with shovels, there were so many of them, but after the first couple of weeks we would just sweep them up. AND remember, just because you killed the mother does not mean her egg sack is dead, it will go ahead and hatch out new ones within a couple of days. So bag them in plastic and tie it shut. If you know someplace away from your house were you can dump the bag, do so. We dumped ours at the local park trash cans and they were picked up every Monday morning.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Eeeeeewwwwww.......

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I haven't heard my daughter complain about her bugs in a while. Hope maybe they're under control.

it's not that I'm sleeping better, it's mostly that I switched from free cell to cribbage. How's everybody else? Sound asleep? But cribbage is getting dull. The computer is vrry predictable.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

I've been depriving myself of sleep to see if, when I finally crash, I will
be able to STAY asleep....

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Did it work? Seems like we all are asleep. Maybe cooler weather makes it easier to sleep.

We're doing sort of pre-worrying for the big migration. During the first full week of October, DH and I will be driving my van from DFW to Boston. We hope his two oldest kids will drive a truck packed with stuff. Lots of the packing is done, and lots isn't.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

So Carrie, are you moving back to Boston ?

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Ugh..............can't sleep. Just had a little wine, maybe I'll go turn on the TV and maybe a cat will come and snuggle with me. Perhaps either of the kittens..............Button or Grizabella.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Anna, how is your weather up there ?
