2014 N Central TX RU May 18th (Arlington) TRADE THREAD #2

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Sure Josephine, I'll put you down for the 3 I have left. No need to bring me Turks cap, I have 2 others bringing me some, but thank you :)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K, thank you, how about purple fall asters?

Arlington, TX

Let me check how much I have Joesephine. I have a small bag from last year for you to try.

SPWD - I would love some tomatoes, especially since they're 'exotic'. Seriously tho, this is my year to try things and learn from what I do right or what I could have done better. So, yes please to toms.

Dallas, TX

Baja Blue - It's back to you again. Now that SPWD has said 'marigolds help to deter pests', I would love some of your marigolds, please ma'am.

If that was directed at me, yes please! I just googled them and wow!

Tomato seedlings I'm bringing are black icicle, pink bumblebee, persimmon, grubs green, blueberry, matts wild cherry, Tlacolula, Opalka, yellow currant, cherokee purple, black cherry, mortgage lifter, dark copia heart, ace 55 vf, and red pixie dwarf. Just in case anyone wants to google them for info.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

O.K. asters for you.

Dallas, TX

SPWD - Here's some of the toms I'd like to try if you have enough: pink bumblebee, yellow currant, and black cherry. If I can only choose one, Cherokee purples are my fave.

DFWDennis - Can you tell me about the podocarpus (false yew)? I've been looking at yews and seems like I get really varied info. So what's your 1st hand info?

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

TxFlower, I'll put your name on one of each of those, and I'll bring all my extras for anyone else who wants to try :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Becky, keep them away from my husband or he'll clear your table of them! LOL

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

LOL! Good riddance! I'm bringing 75 or so, they're small but ready to get planted ASAP!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great. I'll probably come home with some. LOL

Okay, anyone want aloe?? I have a multiplying aloe plant that has tons of babies I can bring.

Arlington, TX

I would like to try 3 heirloom types. I will take any 3 but the red pixie dwarf sound interesting.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Sounds great Stephanie, lmk if I can put your name on any.

N3L, same for you and just so you know, the red pixie is a hybrid but most the others are heirloom.

The only determinate are ace 55 and red pixie :)

Gypsi's Trade List (Dated May 13th for the May 18th Roundup)

Sorry, I have been phenomenally busy between fish diseases and badly behaved bees...

I have: bulbs for Summer Snowflakes, gone dormant
Peach Iris tubers, scented, "beverly sills"
Crinum lily - bog suitable variety, will grow in ponds
Hardy oxalis
China Berry seeds (Baja Blue you wanted some?)
Unrooted cuttings for white butterfly bush
4 potted oxeye or cowpen perennial daisies that i potted up in January

1 Dwarf nandina shrub that I can lift and pot, stays small, small root ball, I missed it when I removed the others for fall Roundup.

I have been blessed with multiple baby heartleaf scullcap and red columbine but suspect if I lifted them now for Roundup I would just kill them.

Sad to announce the death of my fig and frostweed from the fall roundup. Frostweeds died of drought when the fall rains didn't come and I had planted them, crazy ants have seriously damaged my fig. I am holding off on new large plants while I consider the drought more thoroughly.

Want: some willow cuttings and to learn to make willow water
Tomato seedlings, pepper seedlings, squash, any vegetable seedlings would be wonderful. My garden at moment consists of 6 tomato plants and 3 are pretty iffy.

Looking forward to Sunday.

Dallas, TX

Gypsi - Good to hear from you. I was wondering about your silence. Now that you've made a list, could I please have some peach irises? And how would one plant the butterfly bush? What do you have to do to root / plant it? Please look at my list and let me know if you see anything you want. It's mostly leaves, pots, and such. But who knows? Take a look. Sorry you've had a fish disease. :D

SWPD - Now that I know you're bringing 75 or so toms, I might add another type or two. The only one I didn't get a hit on when I googled it was 'grubs green'. Interesting name. And I bet it's green. Is it big? Little? Best for tom. paste? Or should I google again? FOUND IT! (maybe) Is it also called Grubs Mystery Green? If so, please put my name on one of those if you have enough.

Gypsi please look at my list also. I also would love a few peach iris please

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

The podocarpus is a volunteer from my dad's yard, but his seems to do really well. It is pretty tall but not too wide and is evergreen, which is a nice combo.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Gypsi, thank you for the chinaberry seeds !

If you have any Beverly Sills I would love to have !

I will bring you willow cuttings - they root sooooo easily.

Becky, could I please have some mater plants, especially
Tlacolula, Grubbs Green and Bumblebee ?

I will bring loads of seeds. I am legally blind and cant read
the labels, I I may just bring and let yall go thru them & pick
yjru what you want.

You know how some women buy shoes ???

Well that is how I do with seeds.
Cant pass up a pretty packet !

Dallas, TX

DFWD - Does the podocarpus grow columnar or just tall? I mean, could it be made to be kinda bushy without sacrificing much height? Or without killing it?

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, I don't know. I don't have much first hand experience with it myself. You could give it a try. The price is right! :)

Fort Worth, TX

Texas Flower Child butterfly bush roots like a chrysanthemum, about 2 nodes of green stem, leaves removed, roots in dirt, remember to water (my downfall). I would up pot it in a greenhouse or on a porch for about a year, put in ground very early in spring next year. surplus pots 1 gal and larger always welcome

I should have plenty of Beverly Sills peach iris, some desperately need homes as I lifted for my daughter's new house last year and that fell through before I delivered. I still have more that can be divided too, just need a count.

IloveJesus either a mimosa tree or a spider (airplane) plant would be wonderful. I promise to try not to kill the houseplant, but note the word try. I USED to be able to keep these alive

Thank you
Gypsi

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

You got it will bring both :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Gypsi, I got tired of hauling in the hanging basket of airplane plant and planted it in the ground a couple years ago. Would you believe it comes up even after a hard winter like we had this year!
ILJ99 - I may be able to get a few starts of a white salvia for you and the other person. It is Augusta Duelburg. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/307116/

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

SPWD - I would appreciate the seeds for a.curassivaca if you have extra. I usually have plenty, but gave a lot away last year. Never had a problem with the Mex MW in thte past, but this year they haven't all come back, so I need to get some planted for the future.

Dallas, TX

ILJ99 - At one time you were giving me 4 Amaryllis bulbs. Now you don't have me down for any (sniffle). I would like at least 1, please.
As far as more 'yard art' goes, here's what I've meant by 'whirligig'. It's like (how do I say this?) a bird on a 'wire' with wings that go round when the wind blows. The wire goes in the ground (or could go in a pot). Measuring from the bottom tip of the wire to the bird's bottom, I get about 15". I have several different birds, including a cardinal and a pink flamingo. Have to check to see which birds are still intact. Anyway, I'll bring and if you don't want 'em maybe someone else will.

DFWD - Yes, go ahead and bring me the podocarpus. It's worth a try, and as you said, the price is right.

Sheila - I'm the 'other person' trying to get the white salvia. I haven't had a chance yet to see if my neighbor feels hers is big enough to cut and I'm sure neither of us has had any desire to go out in the rain and mud to check it out.

Stephanie - I have my own aloe vera and many pups. I know that my guest, Susan, wants an aloe vera. I was going to bring one but if you'd like to also bring one, that's cool too. Either way, no worries.

TXFC - I will put your name on one of the white salvia.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Sheila Thanks so much for the white salvia it is beautiful

tx_flower_child I was adding up the Amaryllis last night and thought it was 4 short of bringing and went back through and found you ask for 4 and I fixed it on paper :) I am so happy you saw it too and be relieved I have it fixed on paper where it is the most important incase I don't get it fixed on my list here. :)

tx_flower_child found a mistake on what I was bringing her so would everyone else please check and see if I have your's right.

I have airplane plants in pots and in the ground and all are coming back.

Dallas, TX

Sheila - Thanks for the white salvia.
I can't believe that you can grow an airplane plant outside - - - but no, I don't want an airplane plant. Just commenting.

ILJ99 - Thanks for correcting your list. I don't really need 4 Amaryllis but will take whatever you can share/spare.

Sorry to go MIA, we have company arriving tomorrow and my house was a pigsty!! I have everything potted and ready, last few tomato requests are noted and I will bring extras for the grabbing. Just to remind everyone, they are still wee little bitties, but their garden counterparts have only been in the dirt for a month and are already trying to set fruit. Just didn't want anyone thinking they are big like the ones in the stores right now and being shocked at their size! LOL

I lost some coral nymph salvia to the rain last night, so they will be replaced with some of my smaller seedlings, and covenantgarden, the primrose isn't looking so hot after potting it. Hope it gets over the shock.. Will keep you posted. I'll pop back in tmrw after I'm done whipping my house!! :)

Fort Worth, TX

If anyone truly needed one or 2 amaryllis because someone is short, let me know. I have some young starts from mine, which is red, btw. and I MiGHT have time to lift them Saturday night (no guarantee on that, the bee and fish whirlwind continues around here)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I just talked to Marty and her computer isn't fixed yet. It is suppose to be done this evening. The hard drive went out and the guy is having problems transferring the files to the new hard drive. Please say a prayer she doesn't loose anything on the transfer.

We are still coming and I know have directions to her house.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you for letting us know Sandy.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Was someone asking for agaves? I have a couple of pups that I will be bringing.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

What color do you have dennis?

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Dennis, if no one wants :Meat Claw" I would
love to have it

I have some hard-to-get zinnia seeds if you
are interested

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Does anyone want the kerria, coralberry and french hollyhock?

Fort Worth, TX

I would love a french hollyhock! Do I have anything you want?
