Weather in the Garden #137

New Mom is right.....toddler stage and all! I need a babysitter, as no housework or garden work is getting done! Should be another nice day today....low 80s....

A few showers late this afternoon....heavy rain tomorrow....

About 21/2" of rain here yesterday.....my stepdaughter was hammered in Commack, LI....flooded the entire basement, couldn't get to work....OK...that part's not so bad.....

The rain has been great here! No need to water any pots or any new plantings at all. 68 F two days in a row.

Fog has just burned off, another great late August day!

It's been very pleasant and remains so. No rain in sight in the near future though. We bought a hose system that you can design into lots of branches of soakers, but it's not put together yet.

Wish me luck going back to work tomorrow! Since I often drive, this time I don't want to have an assignement 90 miles away from home, even if the weather is nice.

We did our grocery shopping. Can not work in the garden in the sun. Much more possible when it is cooler.

So strange... We never had a real heat wave during the summer, now this little warm spell seems more like an early Indian Summer. The tomatoes are full of green fruit but no new flowers, the squash plants are starting to collapse, and the cukes, never abundant, are more sparse. Less obvious is the difference in the perennial borders, but after the early summer peak, the absence or late arrival of some of the showier plants made a noticeable difference.

I am not looking forward to the heat during this week. Going to be 90° in the next couple days.

We have to shop for an air conditioner for DS ( We had to co-sign for our university students to get apartments). This weather means no delaying that little expense.

Are the triplets glad to be back in school, Rosemary? I know my son was always happy to get back to Uconn.....High 80s-90 today, but humidity won't be bad today.....

68° sunny DGS & DGD back at school. He is a college freshman & she is a junior. She thinks the food at her school is better than hers. ☺

Triplets go back to their schools this weekend. The house will be a lot emptier in many ways, though we've held on to our toaster! DD1 is moving in with a family in Southern Spain to study for a year at University of Cordoba through an exchange program. We have no plans yet to visit as DS still needs help with furnishing his apartment and finding roommates. The owner of the building teaches engineering there, so we are hoping all will be up to code. it was looking for a while like he would have to commute, which would have worked for a few months until winter weather sets in.

Glad iris's DGS and DGD are happy with their plans. Good food is so important! My DS will live near a pizza shop across the street from the engineering school, but past the frat houses where it will be a quiet neighborhood. He promises he will make salads for himself.

Glad the grandkids are happy back at school, Lucy......Yes, Rosemary, the house will be quiet! My son loved salads....still does....his son won't eat a veggie, or a fruit....grrrr.

A T-storm with lots of lightning hit about 7 last night....really needed the rain......saw a rainbow when I took Nicki out after the rain had ended.....cool & cloudy right now.

We got that storm, too, over 1" in what seemed like no time. Today is much cooler. Good gardening weather.

Mid 70s today....more hot weather by Monday.....sorry that the kids had a cool summer, now it's heating up.....
