Oh another great idea Linda Kay, again thank you. I really didn't want to try clay but I have made the clay so will try, but the foam sounds so much easier! afraid the clay will crack on me.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Well I threw the dough out and I am going for foam....so i decided to try making some of those concrete hands for pots. Dont know if this is going to work at all, but nothing to losse. has anyone done any?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful plants Kathy! I did not know they produce seeds!

Joyce, hope you can find the foam sheets, I know wally world carries them in the craft section, they come in assorted colors, some even have glitter.

I have never worked with concrete, do you have a form for them? Is this what you mean, they use surgical gloves to make them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What did you do to your knee? Hope the Dr. has an easy fix fir it!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Dang Susie that is the pits! Hopefully FAST fix.

Yeap that is exactly what I did Linda Kay, but I am afraid the concrete may not be sitting up. I stuck a pin in the tip of the fingers to keep air out, filled the glove with concrete. Then mounded the sand so I could fold the gloves over the sand hump to make cupped hands. hopefully in the shape I want. Course you won't know that til it is all said and done. I LOVE working with concrete. It is so cheap it doesn't hurt alot if you mess up.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh golly Kathy beautiful blooms.
Susie, you hafta be careful and take it easy and let us know what is up with your knee. good grief.

Joyce, I hear your Joy in the orieols, Joe called me to tell me we had some on the hummer feeder right outside the kitchen sink window and he was thrilled. I am thrilled cuz he is home doing the dishes LOL
Our hummers have been back about three weeks. Joe found another cardinal nest right next to the older cardinal nest in our front rose/honeysuckle corner off the porch, he said it is a "duplex" . I didn't know they built a new nest everytime they are ready to sit on eggs,. did you? I thought one for moma and one for poppa, but Joe said they aren't sitting in the old one since the baby flew out.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh got up this am and found an Oriole and a Hummingbirds at the feeders. Gotta tell you when I got home last night that goofy Oriole was fighting with himself in the window..geehz!

Went shopping for plants and a birthday present yesterday. the farmers market only had 4 trucks.... ;) I did buy a rhubarb plant, I have never eaten it but wanted it to cast the leaves in concrete. My understanding I don't want to cut any leaves until next year. kmart had 6 packs of impatiences for 75cents, wasn't what I was going to use but the price talked me into it.

Debra I do remember the microwave glass plate...rofl. It worked great and is still working. It is nice to have a house husband...LOL

Well I did buy some foam to make the flip flops out of and I was saying bad things last night..LOL I must of cut out 100 flip flops that are less than an inch long, cutting one was easy but cutting a second to kind of sort of matches not so much.. now if I would of thought about it once you added the top and I added a flower not much of the shoe shows...LOL live and learn. But I can say it is DONE! Her birthday isn't until June so those plants had better live cause I am not messing with it any more at all. Linda Kay your suggestion worked like a charm and didnt cost hardly anything, thank you so much.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Right, don't cut rhubarb the first year you plant it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad I could help!

hello all we are home from Chicago. G
Had the times of our lives. Rode in taxis, buses, trains and boats. All very fun. We went up in the skydeck of the Willis tower formally sears. shedds, field museum, house of blues, cheesecake factory, man was that ever awesome... sightseeing boat tour. We did so much in the days we were there just can not get over it!!! Got back and our garden looks so beautiful. Everything is really popping out. sure wish it was warmer tho. Some sun shine would be wonderful. it is only 45 today and raining, and windy.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Guys I am so upset. I went to the cemetery where my GrandMother GrandFather GGrandMother GGrandFather and my GAunts Baby are buried. It is an old family cemetery in the middle of a farm. Thru the years the different folks who have owned the property actually took care of the cemetery but mostly they would ignore it. The last few years I have mowed it at least once a year, but the farmer is planting corn so I can only get up there during the spring then the corn is so tall I can't get in there. Now to make matters worse, this year he has tilled up part of the cemetery and planted corn....I am just beside myself. He has tilled right up to the edge of the headstone of the baby, I just want to cry. I know there are unmarked graves in that cemetery. What kind of person is he? I mean you till up part of a cemetery for $10.00 worth of corn! This is a really an OLD cemetery and no one is buried there anymore and I am not sure anyone goes up there but me. He surely knew I would notice. I guess I will have to get the platte to the cemetery and figure it all out. I am just sick.

Sorry I just needed to talk.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I feel your pain, that is just not right, Joyce. Let him know how sacred that area is to you!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear that! There has to be someone responsible for the cemetery you can complain to?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

thank guys for your support. Just can't believe anyone would do that. It is very old cemetery and has some peony bushes that must be 80 years old or more. There are lots of headstones and the majority of folks there I do not know but I still would never do such a thing in fact I mow around the all headstones. I am hoping he knows better than me the borders of the cemetery and he has just reclaimed part of the field that I think is the cemetery, but I really don't think so.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It would seem the land should be platted and show the boundries of the cemetery. Maybe not though as it is so old. You can check with city or county or who ever would have those records. Not sure of rules for cemeteries on private land. When we were doing family research, we were told we would have to ask permission to go into private land cemeteries.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Luckily Missouri has STRONG laws about old cemeteries thanks to one women who stopped a strip mall builder from paving over an old cemetery. I even went to her once when a farmer on a different cemetery defused us entry. I can see contacting them before entry but when u buy land with a cemetery u buy certain obligations. Usually on the deed to the land with the cemetery there will be written in it obligations u are required to do.

There is a mall in Kansas city mo that the gash cememtery was left intact including the trees in the parking lot.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well good, maybe you will have to force the issue legally. a cemetery should not be desecrated.
