SSG, I only have 3 pieces of the dwarf solomans seal, not enough to share this year. Not sure where I got it but it was given to me. I have some of the ginger you are looking for a small patch I got it from one of the swaps either last year or the year before. I will look and see if my patch is large enough to divide.
SHOPPING LISTS, Spring 2014 What are you getting? PART DEUX
Terri, it has seeded and spread. I have enough. Don't worry about me. The ginger is on me!!
Thanks, Paul!
Holly, I'll keep looking for it in the garden centers. They're adorable!
Paul's ginger is the Hexastylis and it was mostly evergreen for me thru the past winter. Asarum ginger is NOT evergreen for me, loses all top growth.
Thanks, Sally!
SSG, I have a big patch of polygonatum humile that I can share. Is this what you are looking for?
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/37087/
Yes, that's it! I'd love a small start of it!
SSG, I've got you down for it. Anyone else want some?
Hey!!!
May I remind you all that some of us have NO idea what plant you are talking about
if you use ONLY Horticultural names.
You can have a list of 50 plants available to share--and many of us will not know what
you are talking about. I am one of them.
Please--have some mercy! You can still use you fancy names--but could you
also include the common names in parentheses? Right?
Thanks--on behalf of us plain folks... Gita
aspenhill. me too, thanks!
Full shade? Yes indeed, me too, if there is enough!
Gita - hear you on the common names, but "dwarf Solomon Seal" can refer to a bunch of different plants so I wanted to make sure what I have is what SSG was looking for. I'll try to remember to include both. I find it helps when there is a link or a picture to go along with it.
Holly and Devon - I've got you down for it.
Oops, meant Sally for the dwarf solomons seal - not Holly :)
Thanks, AH
thx, from the other "lly"
Behnke's is hosting a bonsai auction this Saturday at 10. I hope to get one or two starter plants.
Has anyone seen King Tut Papyrus for sale anywhere? Someone at Behnke's told me they were having distribution issues.
Neat Terri! Let us know how it goes.
Wish I could go, Terri! DD has her final vball tournament of the season--Sat and Sun up in Penn State. Will be a long weekend for us!
I remember when my daughter played in VBall. The competition went on all day until the team was eliminated. Since we drove long distances to participate in these state games, I sometimes wished her team would start losing so that we could start heading home!! Bad Mommy....
This weekend I was walking with my youngest grandson outside his cousins' house where a graduation party was being held. We passed a house where an old Japanese man was puttering in his WONDERFUL Bonsai garden. He invited us in to see his amazing plants and home made planters. I wish that I had taken my camera with me. I've never seen anything like it commercially.
I will try to get there again to take pictures.
LOL Roses--I know what you mean!
Sounds like a nice bonsai garden.
How AWESOME that he invited you in!!!
It was the same way with baseball or soccer or basketball. Thankful that we had twins and another that were on the same team.
I'm trying to find the giant Solomon's seal. Has anyone seen it? I was talking to te perenial guy at American Plant. He says the problem is the growers/hybidizers are intentionally dwarfing all the large perennials to the point he can't even find them for the people who want them. He's really disgusted with the choice of lilies. Everything he can find is upfacing and short. I'm with him there. It's come to the point that you have to visit the suppliers in Canada and Europe and sneak in a couple seeds in your bra. But then the USDA is one step ahead of you, they have beagles that are specially trained to sniff out seeds stationed at the airports. Us gardeners can not win!

Cat--
In case you don't know it--REAL, competitive V-Ball was my love and sport
for 20 years. The USVBA level--we were regional champs for many years straight.
We traveled to many other Cities to tournaments. It is the most addictive sport!
Met my DH through it as well--he was also a serious Volleyball player.
I "retired" fro active playing at age 40. Could not keep up with the young ones...
Overlapping the retirement--I was also a certified regional referee and
'did" all kinds of tournaments...high school, colleges, USVBA, etc.
Once had the honor of being a line judge at the nationals that were held here
in Baltimore.....
here--i am taking a break.....(Year???--maybe 1972?)
My husband is #13 with his "Y" team.

A couple of times we have stopped to admire a garden and been invited in, we invite people in all the time. It really makes sense, we are proud of our accomplishments and want to share, just as we do online and at our gatherings and swaps. I'm thinking it's a gardening thing and somewhat universal.
I needed more Preen so I can mulch our beds and stopped at Ace to get some. They had a 16# bucket for $25, it was a good deal comparing a 5#+ shaker for $15. It was like getting 10#s for $1/#.
We found excellent prices on tree peonies @ TREEPEONY GARDEN.COM they are located less that 2 hours north of us and we are planning to pick up an order this fall. Holly wants to do a display bed with 7-8 of them.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!! OMG!!!! OMG!!!!!! OMG!!!!!! I just got my order from Plant Delights Nursery!!!! OMG!!!!!! I got several Empress Wu and Plantgenea hostas. They are beyond huge! The boxes are big enough to put my 13 yo in and when I opened them there was only one maybe two plants inside with enough sprinkles of shredded newspaper to keep them from shifting! They are fantastic!!!! Oh my I love this nursery even if they are pricey you really do get your money's worth.
