Try adding a chunk of lemongrass stem to a cup of tea... would probably work in iced tea, also, maybe along with a few mint sprigs.
SHOPPING LISTS, Spring 2014 What are you getting? PART DEUX
Ooh, I'm going to try that!
I bought a tropical Passionflower, I picked the one with a lot of unopened buds pics will follow when one of them opens.
oo, Holly there are some really unusual passion flowers out there....
I still haven't seen any of my Maypop. Could the cold have killed it? Really doubt that, maybe it's super late to emerge.
Mine isn't up yet either Sally.
Calling all Green Springs attendees! I'm planning on being there at 9am when it opens. I can't remember who is going at this point -- I know AspenHill is, and Terp and Muddy were talking about it, and Catmint was flirting with the idea -- who else among you? Ssg said she can't make it; ditto for critter if I remember. Greenthumb and ecnalg? Don't forget to bring a wagon or wheelbarrow if you have one so you don't have to carry your purchases in your hands..... Pen and paper for notes....
I'll think about you while I am working...
Oh, Sally; I'm so sad. Glad you have that great job, but sad you won't be joining us....
Darnit as it turns out my DD has another volleyball tournament tomorrow! I thought we were done till Memorial Day weekend, but nooo.... So unfortunately can't join you all. :-(
I remember when my life was dominated by soccer, diving, gymnastics, lacrosse, horseback riding -- you name it. It was fun, but .... I wasn't sad when the kids grew out of that stage! We'll miss you! The park is still beautiful to visit any old time -- but the sale makes it extra-special.
thanks, Happy!
Happy, I'm still in - see you there.
It's beautiful, Holly!! :-)
look at those pink petals!
We will have to pass on tomorrow's adventure. We're still dealing with the one that started around 6 this morning when I decided to check on the basement. Flooded, and we've spent the day getting the water out and rugs and such outside to dry. That should keep Saturday filled with fun stuff, too. More exercise than gardening!
Happy shopping to all of you.
I'm so sorry -- that's awful!
As much as I would love to go to Green Springs, what I really need to do is finish planting the plants I already have, so I'm going to pass.
Ecnalg, I'm so sorry to hear about your basement. What a pain. I hope we don't get rain for a while so everything can dry out.
Oh Pat, I'm so sorry to hear about your basement, that's terrible! I hope everything down there is safe and that the work goes quickly and smoothly for you two! :)
So sorry to hear about the flood Pat. We can sympathize all too well from past trials. Fact, I don't think I know anybody who has NOT dealt with flooding in basements at some point. Such a chore!
What a mess, flooding is a real chore to clean up after. Hope it isn't too bad.
That reminds me -- after a broken pipe flooded our basement, we found at some point some really nice storage pallets to keep boxes and other stuff off the basement floor in the event of floods -- http://www.amazon.com/Storage-Pallet-large-grid-Brown/dp/B0032D4526/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1400325598&sr=8-2&keywords=storage+pallet -- well worth the cost -- very strong (we have a stack maybe 6 full boxes high each filled with books on them), lightweight, and easy to work with - and they take almost no room when not in use because they are collapsible. There also is a small size: http://www.amazon.com/Storage-Pallet-small-grid-Brown/dp/B000ETOFYY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1400325598&sr=8-6&keywords=storage+pallet Really excellent.
So sorry to hear about the basement, Pat! What an awful pain. :-(
Thanks for the support and suggestions. Yes, even this morning it is still a pain (or at least giant ache) for both of us. I guess the amount of rain just overwhelmed the footing drains, but thankfully the sky cleared and we are having dry weather for the cleanup. Will have to look at that system you suggested, Happy. Something like that would have helped. Sure would have preferred putting all that effort into the gardening!
Bummer about your basement, you guys!! Been there a couple weeks ago. UGH!!!!
Sequoia, Did you go to the York Garden Club sale this morning? Apparently someone young was their looking for us this morning. Ric and I didn't come in today till afternoon. We were there Friday morning for set up and then we usually work Sat afternoon for tear down. If you came did you find anything you were interested in?
Greenthumb, ecnalg, Jan, how stressful to have to deal with a wet basement! I'm glad to live in an area with decent rainfall (those poor folks in southern CA), but these storms can wreck so much havoc.
So how was Green Spring's today? It's such a wonderful park.
Green Spring's was nice. Happy and I had a great time, and the weather couldn't have been any better. We ran into Paul when we were getting lunch. All in all, a successful plant outing :)
Green Springs was fabulous, as she said! The weather (knock on wood) is always superlative, and their own plantings are so inspiring. I had a great time with Terri. Car came back too full, though....
Saw something that caught my eye (thinking of you all) at the HD today.
A 1gal. Rhodo called "Yaku Prince"--$9.98. There were--maybe-6 of them.
It had NO blooms on it--must have finished blooming--as all it had were
oiles of the new, green growth that come from under the old bloom.
I googled--here is one link:

Gita if you're going to be a fairy buyer I would love one!
That is pretty. I have been looking at a pale yellow Rhodie, must be pretty common as I have seen it several places. Just not sure if I have a spot for one.
Paul---Anything for you!!!
I will be your fairy-buyer--wings a-twitter. Hope they are still there Tuesday.
I will pick out the best one--shape-wise.
Here is a better link..... so pretty!

Yaks are great small little compact shrubs.

They are also hairy, ugly beasts of burden.....

Hehehe
Isn't that a cutie?!!!
I think 'Yaku Prince' might be one of the two little rhodi's I picked up at the azalea show/sale. Got a cranberry colored one to with it. And two small-leafed PJM types, 'Checkmate' (little pink blooms) and 'Chesapeake' (little white blooms). Also picked up another deciduous azalea, 'Tricolor'.
SSG, I'll try to remember to check out back... I've been planting out the rest of the azaleas I got last fall... I know I had more than one 'Poukhanense' but don't remember how well they got through the winter.
Has anyone seen dwarf solomon's seal on sale anywhere?
I'm also interested in evergreen ginger ground cover. Paul, what kind of ginger do you have again? Such gorgeous shiny leaves! Are they ever sold in local nurseries?
oh ssg i don't know what kind it is. But I will definitely bring you some for the swap
Paul, no, dig up your ginger! It's in a perfect circle now and digging around it will ruin its form!
