Happy birthday Dee!
CLOSED: 2014 Spring Round Robin Seed Swap
Nanny - the side trades packet is for just that. I suggest you "log" your trade so that it's understood that your seed packet is intended for a specific person. We've had problems with that in the past with folks not getting their side trades for whatever reason.
Trying to run a tight ship but holes popping up everywhere with water coming in!
Ice storm, master's thesis, crabby ladies stalking me across DG. Whatever.
Goodnight y'all. As always, thanks for playing.
A.
p.s. Ju - you'd better behave!
Amanda, sounds to me like the storms are popping up to help you work on your thesis...take pity on all those innocent bystanders and get that thesis done already!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes, had a great day.
Hahaha thanks Robin. Could be that....
Been in a funk for a while. No turning back on th paperwork. I will be grumpy till the end of daze.
Dee....Not you! Hope it was happy. :)
Don't be grumpy, it's only a drop in a bucket compared to the whole scheme of things...be happy you're moving forward...and destined to get beyond!
Garry - Very sad to hear about your greenhouse! For lack of better words, that just sucks! :(
Amanda - I for one, appreciate your sense of humor, and also the time/energy you've put into hosting this Robin, thanks again for enabling the seed hoarding *ahem* collecting, and good luck on your thesis!
Dee - lucky you to have a St. Patty bday! Hope your hub brewed you some awesome green beer! Lol
Sorry, I am in a sickeningly positive mood tonight.. and the energy in this room is remarkably lighter, whew, good thing too! Lol!
Does anyone recall seeing mexican flame vine in the robin? I am dying for some! Or kangaroo paws? I just saw some at Home Depot and had to remind myself I have no business buying any plants until I plant out what I already have!! I have to do calisthenics just to reach inside my washer and dryer as there are seedling flats double wide across the front of the machines.. I don't think hub considers my pastime 'cute' anymore..
Becky- you are too funny! Tell hubby not to complain as long as he still has clean clothes!
I'm silly.
I owe Sue (Cheermom) her doorprize from Fall robin landing, and I wanted to keep it, but I finally packed it up today to ship tomorrow.
i hope you're out there listening!
The door prize is to whomever guesses the date the Robin will arrive back in my possession. But we do that when it comes down to the last couple of weeks.
So have a nice evening and a pleasant tomorrow. Making progress on the paperwork.
Thanks for the positive comments -helps every now and then to have a pat on the head with all i've got going on here. :/
p.s. Miss my dog. sigh.
A.
Hang in there Amanda! I have always heard "That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." Obviously you are not dead,so you must be pretty strong. I know how crazy things can get!
I have been going through the seeds in the Robin, and wow, there's a lot of stuff in there! Decisions, decisions, I would like to have some of everything, but that wouldn't be very practical. So I am trying to narrow it down to the things I most want. Geez, it hard to choose! I am like a little kid in a candy store.
Nanny, about the clean clothes, I fell asleep way early last night, long rough day, forgot to iron work clothes for him and when he woke me up to put me to bed, he had already done it! I swear he is the sweetest man! Even when he has to move my plants from on and around the toaster to toast a bun, he still smiles and says no problem. Wonder how long his patience will last? Lol! Also I sent your ponderosa lemon seed yesterday. Lmk when it arrives so I have one less thing to make me anxious ;)
Amanda, sorry about your dog. I worry whenever I see my baby girl lying real still, that she's finally passed. She is a 12 year old Great Pyrenees and vet said they only live about 10 years. We rescued her and now here she is, a happy old lady!
Okay I had to share, cute story, I was cleaning some standing cypress seed this wknd to send to Juhur for the robin, and my 3 year old came up and asked if he could help. I set a few pods in front of him, not really expecting help, more or less to entertain him. Well turns out the kid is a seed cleaning prodigy.. Helped me for a good thirty minutes without generating half the chaff his fat fingered momma does!
Btw I sent that seed Juhur, I'll Dmail you w the tracking info :)
Becky, how cute, those little fingers are very agile, I would make good use of them! I would be afraid to turn my 3 yr old gdaughter loose in the seeds, I don't think she can sit still for 30 min. lol
I have a Pyrenees/lab who is 5. He is huge...150 lbs. But the sweetest, laid back temperment. He is very well known in these parts (I have people that stop by just to visit the dog, not me, the dog) and if anything happens to him I don't know what we will do!
Momma's always need good little helpers...God bless them!
Becky I will keep an eye on the mail ..
Still thinking about what to grow , when I want to start really ,
Still 20 -30 degrees below normal here .
Staying up with the little things , that mean everything ,
Cute youngster , Makes me feel like going and playing a while .
Yes Annette, he can be rented out for the small fee of.. Lol just kidding, he's MY little helper! And usually he doesn't sit still for long, I caught him during one of those rare slow paced moments. My Pyr, Malibu, is the sweetest thing too.. It must be a breed trait. She does however like to escape and show up wet from he creek hours later. Or skunked! Juhur I forgot to Dmail you the tracking. Doing it right meow..
We have a large pond on our property, It takes up almost 2 acres of the farm. Bigfoot, thusly named because at 8 weeks old his foot was as big as the palm of my hand, loves the water, too. he can swim the width of the pond.
I am diving back into the seed box. Am I going to be hung in effigy if I send it out to juhur7 on Friday or does it need to go out tomorrow?
That's for the host to decide , I have no problem with waiting , Everyone still needs the the time to actually look at the seeds with a few decisions to make .
I'm still interested (excited ) to see the Robin ,, but i am patient .
This might be a bad (or wrong) way of expressing my view ,,lol But ,,, if someone slips on (or in) pattie in the pasture , I am not going to "Turn in the Cow" !!! for doing that !!!lol?
The time needed to decide what you can , and want to grow from the Robin is still necessary , that's not unreasonable ,,
If Nanny , you were talking about next Friday I am sure we would all ask why ?lol
lol ...No, day after tomorrow- Friday. I guess I should be more specific.
I read the RULZ , and it says no longer than 4 days.I received it on Monday. Is Monday considered the 1st day, or is A day counted as a 24 hr period beginning at time it is in the hands of the recipient. It does make a bit of a difference depending on how you look at it. Some people have morning mail delivery, some late afternoon. So how does that work? I just wanted to know if it is necessary to burn the midnight oil and get it in the mail tomorrow. But someone else might also wonder how they should count their 4 day limit. I am not asking for special treatment, just clarification of the RULZ.
Am I making any sense? So I guess what I am asking is it 4 days and 4 nights, or 4 days and 3 nights. It could be interpreted either way- by the RULZ. I know everyone has an alotted amount of time, just trying to figure out how it should be calculated. Anyway, I have to back to it, either way. So I will check back later to see if anyone has answered my dumb question. Thanks!

I've lost count of my mind, let alone the days. I think if you pass along the confirmation number to the person ahead of you on the list that's fine.
If the person does not reply to your dmail a day before you send the Robin - by NO means should you ship there. As requested, it will go to the next person on the list and the missed person will go to the tail end if at all.
Glad you're having fun in the seed stash Annette - It's less fun from where I'm sitting, since i haven't started any seed and busy hacking away at this masters' work. AHHHCCHHHHCchhchchhdhhghhhahhhhshhggghhgh,
xo
A.
Nanny When I Had the robin Usually we said 3 days
But then we always tried to get the box out on these days .
Arrive Monday,Go out on weds, arrive on Fridays , go out by Monday. this way sometimes 2 players a week can go through the robin . it takes about 2-4 hrs to go through the robin .
does this make since to you ??
Then I guess I am already behind Schedule! Sorry, Sorry, Sorry to all those waiting! But I hope to make it up to you by sending out lots of different seed than was already in the Robin. I have spent 2 days with a migraine headache and I have been pretty worthless most of that time. I think staring at the computer screen all day at work has contributed to the problem.
I promise I will do better!!!! And BTW this is the last call for special requests, some of the seed I have is limited. So is you are on the bottom end of the list and you want something in particular, please let me know so I can do a packet for you. Thanks!
Annette, I'm interested in a few of these if you have some to spare:
Bergenia cordifolia 'Red Beauty"
Basella rubra 'Malabar Spinach'
Pampas Grass Cortaderia selloana 'Pink Feather' and 'White Feather' (do these grow in your zone?)
I haven't grown any of the Pampas grass yet. But my neighbor has a clump that is about 15 feet wide. I have always admired it. I will fix a packet for with all those items in it. :) I am about to sow some Pampas Grass. I will let you know how it germinates.
Great, thanks! Check out my list here:

SPWD , Becky ,, The seeds for the Robin ,, are here , Along with a few for me !!! he , he ,
There will definitely be some nice flowers this year for those here ...
Decisions , Decisions , eeek ! Now I know what Nanny and a few have been saying ,,
No teacher like Experience !!!
The Robin has flown! It is at this moment winging it's way to Juhur7. And she is stuffed! I expect at some point down the road she will have to be repackaged, because it was a tight fit getting my seeds in there. It may require some creativity or just a little bit bigger box. But it does go into a different postage catagory if you go beyond 12". Perhaps a deeper box, at some point. Meanwhile, have fun Juhur7, and Mipii, you have a packet from me. I apologize for the delay, I meant to get it in the mail yesterday, But I did some tweaking on my packaging and also ran out of bags. Nobody in this town has the small ziplock bags.
Does anybody know where to get the Glassine seed envelopes at a decent price? The ones I looked at online were ridiculously high.
Also a BIG THANKS to everyone who has contributed to the Robin and to Amanda for Being HOST. I found some wonderful seeds in there. If there is anything on my list that isn't in there by the time you get the Robin, I will be happy to send it to you directly.

Have you tried ULINE?
I just looked in the catalog and I didn't see the small ones that have the the top flap.
Uline will be a more expensive option even if you do find them there. Better to go Amazon.com to look for them.
I have a "crap ton" of plastic baggies I will put in when it gets to me. Feel free to use those to package seed instead of using your own baggies. I know it doesn't help those before me, sorry.
Steph
But I am sure those after you will appreciate It. I used some of the small zip lock bags out of the Robin when I ran out, but I did replace them when I was able to find some at the Wal~Mart in the next town. Our store is out of EVERYTHING!
I had not thought the Robin would need baggies , I can add a few empties , not bunches though ,
I put some seeds in the tiny one inch baggies , and usually so everyone can take the Baggie , of the two or three inch baggies All and myself can take a few or what they will grow ,
easier two use ,,,
Adding some Variegated Catgrass , Green regular catgrass , Aveena Sative from Burpee's
The remainder of some lady in red Salvia seeds .
Looking forward to the Goodies still .
Nanny , got the news .. Big Smile^_^ , I will be sending back to you Monday (the ones you wanted)
Black pearl pepper on the right front . Triangular leaves in background Salvia lady in red .
Nice lookin seedlings. There was qutie a few of the 2 smaller sizes of zip locks already in the robin. I don't know who put them in. Maybe our gracious HOST, there are also shipping labels. That was thoughtful.
Try this for glassine envelopes:
http://www.clearbags.com/stationery/envelopes/translucent/glassine
Very nice Juhur!
Robin, the website has ok prices on their bags but the shipping starts out at $13.95(for UPS ground)+$7.00(small order fee)=$20.95 to order a $2.45 item. They don't seem to offer standard shipping. Now granted the order fee goes down if you increase the size of your order.
Thanks anyway, it looks good til you calculate that shipping. It was sweet of you to find that site for me. :)
Surely I can find some for less than that, can't I? It costs more for the shipping that the item you are ordering. CRAZY! We just don't have a good craft store here in town. I may have to go to the next big city. 35 miles from here. It's just hard to find the time between work and helping with my daughter's 3 children while she is in Nursing School, and everything else that is going on.
I will just use what I have until I find a good buy on the glassine envelopes. I like them for very small seed, because the seed doesn't stick to them as bad as it does the plastic zip locks.
Mipii (Robin ) Interested in these ; Ice Plant, Delosperma Cooperi 'Table Mountain', seeds
Joe Pye Weed, Eupatorium Chocolate', seeds
*Date Palm, Phoenix dactylifera 'Medjool', seeds
*Flame Amur Maple, Acer ginnala 'Flame', 30 seeds There are a couple more there , but I don't think I will be able to grow them .
Nanny23 ; I left the green Catgrass seeds in their glassine paper envy ,, Big deal that is really going to help ; Right ? LOL
Juhur7- It's the thought that counts :)
I still have a few, I will save them for the tiny seed. Or if I have to I can use the smallest zip locks. Either way, It will work. I have had to make my own envelopes before, so this is easy compared to that! lol
Maybe we ( the seed savers) need to buy a gross of them and split them, like a co-op. Some things are a lot cheaper in bulk.
James, I will send those seeds. Is your address still correct in the exchange?
Annette, I use the glassine for the same purpose. I hear you about the shipping costs, they're exorbitant. I usually calculate the cost of driving somewhere to see if I'm getting a good deal...sometimes my time is also taken into account. Purchasing co-ops are good but we'd still need to ship to each individual and pay for the original shipping costs to one of us...I'm not sure if it would be very much savings.
A bunch of bizzy bees here! I am not growing anything. Even my houseplants are crapping out. Dang master's thesis.
Mipii= Where did you get your Glassine envelopes? I have seen them on ebay, but again the shipping is outrageous. $7 to ship 100ct pack? At the most it should be $3 for first class. I found some from a stamp collector supply in January that cost $3.50 for 100ct and $2.70 to ship but additional items shipped for .50 cents. Only thing is those envelopes opened on the long side like a standard envelope, not on the small end. But I don't suppose that matters much in the scheme of things. I am still looking around, trying to save wherever I can.
Amanda - Good Morning! How's that thesis coming? It is Spring you need to grow something! It is unnatural for us seed hoarders not to have trays of seedlings all over!
I don't have as many as usual...yet.
I got my glassine from clearbags.com. I waited until I could purchase a bunch of things. For Ebay, keep monitoring until somebody posts a decent shipping price. Your 35 mi. away craft store may ship, give them a call.
I like to save where I can too.
How many were you looking for? Next time I place an order, I'll check with the seed savers here to make a larger order.
