seems domes and yurts u becoming more mainstream than htey used to :)
CLOSED: 2014 Spring Round Robin Seed Swap
About 18 years ago I went to what's called the "Eco Expo" at the convention center in Los Angeles. I had heard about an all natural linoleum type flooring and I was interested in checking it out. Well I met a man there that was making "kit dome homes" and we hit it off and I took a card. He convinced me that a dome home was cheaper and better than a conventional home. So I came up with a floor plan and sent it to him. He ended up moving down and building my home for me.
Now probably the more interesting part of the story is that as I'm building this home I met my husband and we end up being married in the garden and had the wedding party in the dome before it was finished.
Wow that is so cool, reminds me of the couple that lived in the domehome on the tv show American Pickers.. they seemed like a happy couple, and I think they might have had a nice garden.. that wasn't you was it?? Lol!
Ooooh that's cute, what a great story Dee. How do you like Dome homes (good enough to be there for eighteen years, obviously)? Are they cheaper? I bet they're structurally more tolerant to strong winds, are there any more benefits? What are the cons?
Congrats on both, it is cool that your new home led to a new hubby.
How about a status report on the Robin? Anyone heard from AmandaEsq?
And Dee that is a cute story!
Becky, I love American Pickers, those guys are great! They find the neatest stuff.

That wasn't me on American Pickers, now I'm going to have to watch the show though.
People - I still have not got the bird in the air - we lost power yesterday and have the power company here in the driveway all day with trees down on the lines - including internet. :/
I am hoping to sneak out of here before the post office closes. Keep your fingers crossed. It's been a helluva couple of days. :(
A.
Beth, Kerrie?
Did you guys get any of this ice storm?

Wow Amanda the hit's just keep on coming don't they? The weather here is beginning to get nasty, Mother Nature is really jerking us around. we had 70* yesterday...tonight is going down to 16* with 25 mph winds with gusts to 50 mph. Enough to give a greenhouse owner a nervous breakdown. I have already had to put back on, some of the snap plates that hold the glazing in. The wind popped them out.. And it is snowing....again. So I feel your pain with this stupid weather. I don't blame the Robin for sitting this stuff out!
No way! Now there's a giant red circle of thunderstorms over my house. :/
The more wind and rain we've had this week the more trees are coming down. We didn't lose power initially, but there are still lots of people without, more in the downtown areas. We had some trees come down across the right of way out back bringing down lines.
On Saturday morning I could hear a "swish!" followed usually by a loud popping noise which were trees falling and transformers exploding. What a drag. I'm going to the post office first thing tomorrow - come ____ or high water! :/
Gotta run. Seed nazi very very very crabby today. :/
A.
ps. But would never kill the humorist.
Lots'a wind here....all night...didn't sleep... branches kept on flying onto the roof as soon as I started to sleep...I need a nap, but the day is almost over with this *%$##%^&*!! DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME! (I will appreciate it in the summer when I can work in the garden before breakfast and after dinner.) I am just not used to it yet.
It must be windy all over the country! evelyn I am with you on this daylight savings time! Just about the time I get used to it, they change it back.
Yeah, I don't like it when they take away my precious hours after dinner after the heat of the day is much cooler. (You and I do NOT rule the world!) LOL!! ^_^
Amanda ~ If you keep us on the end of the swap...oh, you said it is NOT the flight path...well, when is the deadline for signup? (Still undecided.)
Okay Kids - she's in the air! :D
Wending her way to Annette (Nanny) as her first stop on trip north from NC.
I was able to pack a box of my choosing to the brim which weighed about 3.5 lbs after I selectively culled some things (like about 3 lbs of beans) to make it travel easier. I paid shipping online and printed a label for $7.25.
I don't think this amount would have fit in the medium size flat rate box. I think there would have been room to spare in the large flat rate box. In any event, a tracking number/confirmation is included now with the shipment so easy to keep track of.
I reworked the flight path and will post above.
Thanks for playing.

Wow , I came up ,, in the List ,,
If that means Even Beans to anyone , ((except me ) lol
Suppose that's better than my number being up ??? lol
I will add some Lady in red Salvia . and look through my seed sorting can for any doubles ,
I am first on the list....I am excited!
Amanda -Do you have any idea when she will land? I like to keep those guys at the post office on their toes! I have frequent conversations with the Post Master, usually regarding my mail route carrier, Who is a royal pain.

lol might need to amend.. I am in Alabama not AR.hehehe
I think I got it right on my printout Garry. This was just from memory. Oops.
Annette- in bed without receipt but I might have heard TH word "Saturday" amid the surrounding chaos.
Ju..of course you're in there. So are some of your seeds.
Everybody:
If you have a large quantity of seed it might be a good idea to poll if people want it in the Robin. For instance, I removed a pound or two (!!!) Of beans. If anyone Is looking for beans let me know. :)
ALSO: in the "side trades only" bag that came back to me, I found some items that were not retrieved somehow. Make sure your trades will be shipped en route via robin. If they land back here on my doorstep I keep ! Or someone else sends me postage to ship. Capice?
I have trades/sealed envelopes for Dj9, Lazlo, WWK, etc. I'll Send individual emails to those folks.
Last but not least, as if I weren't insane enough, I got my semi annual summer job today the nursery. They supply and maintain annuals perennials tropicals and house plants at the Home Depot chain. I worked for the greenhouse that supplied Lowe's and Wal-Mart for three seasons before I got hurt on the job (wrist) so it should be easy enough. Will be starting in the coming week so if I'm a little less attentive than a Seed Nazi ought to be, someone please slap me.
The fall robin went fairly smoothly. Remember if we can't reach you within a 24 hour period (please folks give the full 24 before you start to panic) we won't ship to you! End of the line you go, and it may come to you at the tail end.
Speaking of which, I got dmail today reminding me that my subscription is up this month so I need to remember to maintain my subscription status so I can participate I the Robin. Haha!
Thanks for playing. Good night/morning.

You did of course leave a few flowering Hyacinth beans in there didn't you ? I can understand if they were all as large as Red runner Beans ,, huge little guys ,,
okay so I am , But asked someone about about a few Hyacynth Beans , flowering lablab ,, those things ,, I have two seeds from last years failure , Only three or four to be sure I will always have all I want ,
Beans only keep an average of like 500 years or so ,lol Dry old fudds ,,,lol
juhur7- When I get the Robin I will check for the hyacinth beans, but I was going to put some in there anyway, so I will add some with your name on them to the side trade packet. Along with the other things that you requested : )
I had to renew my subscription as well.
Now I just need to get back in the habit of looking here every day again. Went months without being here. Hopefully it will become second nature again for me.
We will be putting the house on the market here in the next few weeks so I have been doing project finishing like mad. For those of you who were here a year and a half ago when I ripped apart my lower bathroom...I haven't touched it since. Now I have two weeks to finish it. UGH! Should't be too bad.
I saw my first REAL Robin today!! I was so excited!!
okay gadget , gizmo trouble here !
Yay she's in the air! I'm so excited!
Nanny, since you are first on the flight path and I didn't get mine in there in time, I can send you anything you want, but you should already know that lol! Just let me know :)
Juhur is it okay with you if I send my robin contribution to you, along with the side trade packets I made for you? I will go to post office first thing Monday and get delivery confirmation. Again, just let me know :)
It's okay with me if it's allright with Amanda , likely it is . , I been trying to reset and get control of my devices all day now , wow . can this get to me after a while .
only took me 8 hrs to figure it out
Nanny again Thank you !!!^_^
Sure Becky ! Send em on !!! ^_^ Yours are already in there though ,lol ?
Ugh hate messing with whacked out devices, makes me want to give them the sledgehammer! Lol
Ok will send to you Monday morning, Juhur. Sending you a Dmail for address :)
Aw a little pepper sprout! Reminds me of the Johnny cash song, Jackson.. Love that song :)
LOVE Johnny Cash. Your stock just increased with me, Becky. ;)
Um, thanks to whomever made sure I would have to endure the Robin by remaining a subscribing member. :D
I have before and will again pay it forward. Blessings.
About hyacinth bean vines - I don't remember seeing any, these were your regular garden variety pole and bush beans. two pounds of them!
Nanny - I put the stash in a non-priority rate box because I could ship it for less that way. I think we agreed that we could all consider whether the flat rate box makes any sense at all. particularly now, when tracking number and insurance is included in the shipment of any priority mail.
If anyone wants to include seed you can ship them ahead of the Robin - I don't have a problem with that. I do appreciate you communicating with each other about the path. It takes the onus off me somewhat, but I will still be cognizant of violations of the RULZ.
Beware, the Seed Nazi.

Becky- I guess the down side of being first is that I won't get to see any new contributions to the Robin unless they were sent to Amanda in advance, but that is OK. Since this is my first, it's all new to me.
Like you said, I know where to find you. And I would like some of those Ponderosa Lemon if you have any extra. I will check your list again for any other requests. I am patiently waiting for Robin to land.
If anyone would like me to designate packets, now would be the time to let me know.
I already have juhur7 and domehomedee's requests and will gladly reserve packets for anyone else. All ya' have to do is ask.
Juhur7- you posted while I was typing. I was not ignoring you, lol. Did someone say FREE BEER?
This message was edited Mar 15, 2014 11:24 PM
My dads side of the family was German, not Nazis though, they came to the US way before that. But they do love their beer! As a matter of fact, I have a lot of distant cousins that live in Anderson, IN and the surrounding area. How funny is that?
Huh?? FREE BEER got me too!! Lol!
Nanny, I will surely send you a packet of ponderosa lemon on Monday while sending Ju's. If you think of anything else before then, just lmk :)
Amanda, Johnny Cash is was the man! Not a fan of country aside from the old timers, and sorry to be OT here but I just heard Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' for the first time and it's amazing too.
Ok gonna start singing Christmas carols while waiting for this bird, that's what it feels like anyway, nine stops til texas!! Woohoo
