Hi everyone. It is cold here in North Carolina too.
Marilyn, I hope you will give us your ham and potato casserole recipe. I had a craving for ham and now need a recipe to do something with it. beside ham sandwiches.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends
Waving Liz and Judy
Liz are you getting the snow as well?
Ohhh have leftover ham, would love your recipe"M"
Turkey is cooking, I didn't have a beer to baste with but found a wine cooler one of the girls must have left here at Christmas..hope the turkey doesn't mine a change in his drink. Lol
"M" bet Lorna's parents have found it difficult this winter
Judy, sorry things have been overwhelming for you, thought the stress would all be but gone when you left yur employ! Knew you were down in the dumps when you weren't posting, meant to call but you know me and the phone...
$$$ from doing kits and postage spent is to be spent in buffalo for one of my Joann Fabric excursions so that means I still have spending $$$ lol
Tell that Steve to behave
Not sure where the morning went, haven't done a thing I wanted to do, best I get a move on
Liz, here's the recipe for the casserole, the fam LOVES it. I am thinking you could more than likely substitute chicken or turkey or maybe even pork if you'd like .. it's a crowd pleasure for sure, and SO easy to make .. even with having the 2 dogs and the cat 'helping me' it took less than half an hour!
Nice to see you posting ^_^
Joyce .. I also have a 'hoarder' in the house, to me it's as bad as a 'mouse in the house'!
DH is a coin collector, and an avid magazine (sports) reader, and, I swear I could paper the walls of the house 4 times over with the pages !
If it wasn't for his 'good' attributes I think he'd be dealing with a very nasty wife! But, he makes a to die for chili LoL
Good to hear you got some organizing done, but, hate to here your down, but, everyone is entitled to those feelings now and again ..
Laundry is almost done, now to remake the beds, NOT my fave job .. but, Iwill have help.
The arthritis in my lower back is pitchin a fit today :-(
Took my chemo drugs last night, and, am quite content to let the world go by.
OK, I am clammin up now, here's the recipe .. ENJOY ^_^
CRUNCHY TOP HAM AND POTATO CASSEROLE
2 lb.(1kg) frozen hash browns (thawed) .. I throw mine in frozen as I usually PREmake the dish, I don't think I'd thaw them a lot as they might get mushy.
1 c. (10 3/4 oz.) cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom)
1/2 c. melted butter (I used margarine)
2 c. (500mg) sour cream
2 c. cubed cooked ham
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
1/3 c. chopped green onions (optional)
1 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
I shake a LITTLE garlic powder in as well
TOPPING:
2 c. crushed cornflakes
1/4 c. melted butter
Combine all casserole ingredients and mix well. Place in 13 x 9 inch baking dish. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle over casserole. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour.
Sounds a lot like AuGratin scalloped potatoes with ham, which my guys like a lot. Sure gonna try this.
"M" next time the weatherman allows me to drive into town going to buy what I need to do this..
Sounds mouth watering.
Tomorrow I will teach Rita how to make pie crust as she says she can't, I'll show her she can..will use the left over turkey from tonight..sure smells nice in the kitchen
Starting to Peter out..want tofinishquilting a tree skirt and put binding on so I can have something to hand sew tonight..it's that or fall asleep at 6pm
Betty - thank you for the news re: explosion outside Winnipeg - I'll check it out.....
Marilyn - and a BIG Thank You re: Dr's note advising ambulance if Bob passes out - I'll look into this right away!
I checked - Not in Alberta...... unfortunately. Cost is now $350 for an ambulance.

BUMMER Susan .. grrrrrrr .. infuriates me, when I worked in emerg in the late 90s it was $75. .. by 2003 it was $125.00 .. I would be afraid to see what it is now!
But I do know the docs note works in On.
Just had some bad news from a friend .. geeze .. her brother died in BC (pancreatic cancer) .. while she was there caring for him (he was 44) her Dad called to tell her her Mom had been dignosed with terminal cancer .. so .. she came home Dec. 24, left her daughter (a nurse) with her brother .. and, he passed Jan 19
She is BEYOND stressed.
If I don't have Sean my student coming over tomorrow, Jocelyn and I will have tea.
Prayers for her Mom (Lynn)
~M~
My prayers are with you, and your friend.........
Oh my Lordy, what terrible news for her to get..there are no words just hugs for you and prayers for the family.
Had stopped sewing for an hour or so and now we are into a full blown storm. Grrrr
Having a laugh, here there is just she and I and we've cooked a turkey dinner that would surely feed 10.
Yum! Sounds great! Wish I was there.
However, I did make an excellent homemade lasagna.
Son boned rolled and smoked a turkey today. I took what was left of it and cooked, then deboned and added noodles. Oh my it was yummy.
Thanks Marilyn for the recipe. I made a copy. I'll need to wait till I get off this mountain to buy the frozen hash browns.
Yes Betty, the wind is blowing big time now and we do have snow. Until today it was mainly ice. You could hear the crunch when walking. Still have to be careful with the new snow. My dog, Bear, had knee surgery so I have to walk him on a lease until I get him back to see the Vet.
My neighbor is in the hospital and I am keeping her dog. She is a hand full. (I mean the dog.)She took my lasagna off the counter and ate it all. I was out of her sight maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Bear was standing on the other end of the kitchen barking at her. LOL
You ladies stay warm. Sending Hugs.
Because of the weather I think we all were in th mood for comfort food.
Oh no Liz, there went your supper. Lol
Not a laughing matter, can just imagine your dismay. Poor Bear, knew it was wrong and trying to tell her it was a no no..
Wind is howling, can only imagine how much snow needs cleaning in the a.m.
Poor Andrew lost money on hus plowing this year.
Can't sleep, almost tempted to get up
Snowy morning here, and, cold !
Liz, I sure hope the dog you're babysitting didn't get diarrhea from the lasagna , man, nothing worse than that !
Thank you for keeping my friend Jocelyn and her parents in your prayers, they can certainly be used. Losing a son, and discovering you have terminal cancer all within a couple of weeks .. Jocelyn is the only child left, and, she is not well ... she is prone to blood clots in her legs, wears the heavy duty support stockings.
Hoping to touch base with her today if Sean isn't meeting with me.
Dreamt I had a BABY last night!! A girl, 'Jorga Joy' .. good grief !!!! My Mom always said ..'dream of a birth, hear of a death', or, vice versa .. that's whatcha get being born in Ireland and raised in an Irish family .. she had sayings for everything LoL Miss her !
Off to see what kind of snow has fallen, may have to help shovel before Lorna and I go to the gym.
Toodles
~M~
^_^

Thunder, are you feeling any better..how long will you take off? Weather warmer today?
Darlene has a friend flying n to ft Myers tonight at 7pm, thank goodness weather is not hampering flights getting out in the city so flight should be on tme..Darlene says weather is nice..anything above 0 would be inviting. For her guest.
Hi - I'm here to let you know I'm still alive. Was semi-sick all week. Mood began to lift yesterday.
Dana came over this morning and we went up the hill to see where new neighbors will be tearing down the old house and they are giving away all the plants as they need to clear the space to build a new house. Lots of aloe, what I think is ti, and mother-in-law tounge. The aloes grow like weeds here so we can put them in the areas that are outside the fence where nothing but dust grows now.
Marilynne, keeping your friends in my prayers, along with Susan's mother an everyone else.
I've been thinking a lot about Sharon and wondering how she is doing. Is her dog pregnant?
All my plans for the day are upside down. I've washed some dishes and have lalundry soaking but now I have to dig some trrenches for the new aloe plants. "Man plans, God laughs."
hugs, katie
feeling better yes. have a voice again. 58 today so far. taking total of 4 days off. but have two more off due to regular schedule. will return to work thurs. the 30th. forecast to be high of 62. I am good when I can hibernate. when I go out in the cold air I have breathing problems, and go down hill quickly....
it is my opinion that an asthma attack quickly lowers your resistance, I always end up getting something shortly after a bad attack.... new it was coming. does not stop it from sucking tho!!
I did a little bit of sewing yesterday, will do a bit more today. and I want to play with my treadle...
I think you did T but still nice to see it again. It's a beautiful machine, how lucky you have it.
Afternoon everyone. I am back home.
Judy sure hope you get a day to yourself soon! (((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))
Thunder, glad to hear your feeling better. Love that machine! Was it one handed down to you?
Love it thunder, that is the machine I learned to sew on at grandma's..tried but true..what stories those machines could tell if they could talk..I'd love tohaveone, not sure what happened to grandma's..lucky girl to have one..love the bobbins, almost bullet like..one didn't have as much trouble with tension then as they do now..
Glad you are feeling better, few more yes off will be good for you..any news from your son overseas or are they able to keep in contact?
Katie, was nice for you to have a visit with Dana andyurneighbor, Lordy aloa, is it the m edicinal plant?? Reminds me, I k illedmy last one from over watering, best I find a new one. Just pt getting out ought to help you feel better.

Also glad to hear you are doing better Katie.
And Thunder too. I love your new toy!!!
It hasn't been the greatest of winters for us this year.
Happy that Betty and Rita are snug and warm too....
Had a lazy day with Norm and it was really nice....
Still looking for that yellow fabric. Yellow seems to be few and far between. But I will keep looking. Kailey is growing so fast. She turned 15 last September.
Dad had his party on the 21st. I told him I would visit in a few months when it gets warmer.
Nothing like haing a lazy day with hubby Barb, sure do miss that?
Looked as though the snow had stopped for a bit but looked outside and started again..if its going to snow then let's have a Snowday tomorrow.
Having turkey dinner, 3 turkey pot pies n the oven bakng and carcas boiling as to make soup tonight..for 2 gals it seems a lot food, neednt cook all week although I did say I'd do stuffed peppers tomorrow night for the freezer.
I'm making a quilter out of Rita and she's making a cook out of me. Lol
Waving~~~~just stopping in for a quick Hi!
Took Bertie her get well meal today. She had her first shower since the surgery and said it felt soooooo good!
Hi -just letting you know I'm still here
Cookie, how is Bertie doing? Bet she is pretty sore?
Hello Susan!
Hello To All;
Stopping in for a bit...
I got the CRUD just as Louisiana was pelted with weather that stopped us in our tracks and that most of you would just laugh at....
My notes from before: 7 days ...book....st. francisville... Dianne I do remember that you were reading that book and that it was about St. Francisville... You would love that town... I'd love to read that book !
It's a beautiful old town 30 minutes north of us... and full of history. IF anyone has the whirligig book I'd pay for postage to get it to "the shop" ...
Father in Law is home now.... Thanks all for prayers....
my Father is going in for open heart in Feb... taking a week off from work to go visit him 2/10-14....
DSon has crud now... worried about him this is not fun at all... I was down you all know I am NOT sick often....
so sorry to hear of your loss Barb. Betty glad you set Noah straight......
Will try to get back soon (HUGS)
ALL the plants are dead and we must start over we southerners who are usually so lucky as to not have to begin again every year.... can't complain can I ?
(HUGS)
Mary
Hiya LK!
So sorry you have the crud, Mary
I have "Mind's Eye" by Paul Fleischman, Mary - I know I passed on Whirligig.......
Who's supposed to get Mind's Eye next?
Morning all,
Sitting quietly with coffee in hand wondering if it will be a 'stay inside' kind of day or not..at times
It's clear then no vision..winds up and howling..usually school cancellations are issued around 6am..breakfast television saying storm moving in from Gplake Huron/Georgian Bay..
Sound like a broken record don't I??
Dianne, Debbie hope you are safe inside reading a good book.
Oh Mary so pleased to see you post..wonderful news your FIL is home, now the worry starts for your dear father..bet he is relieved you are taking tme to be with him.
Seems many are getting sick this year , sorry you and your son had to be included.
Obviously you've had to be off while sick, hoping witchypoo understood.
Are things settling at the shop, Lance getting a it more time home?
Mary, so good to see you post. My Dad had both colon surgery for cancer and open heart. He came through both and lived many more years after. Hr didn't have to have chemo or radiation with his cancer, they were that sure they got it all.
Thanks for asking about Bertie, LK. She is of course quite sore and frustrated with her care giver, (he's driving her bonkers). It's pretty difficult for her to eat, as it's her right arm that's immobile for 6 weeks. But she's coping. I offered to do dishes, but she said no. She did have me put a load of towels in the dryer for her though. I told her not to hesitate to call me for anything at all. I think she will since she helped me when I was down with my broken bones.
Cold here this morning. 9 when I got up and 8 after I made coffee which was about 3 minutes later. I don't like the direction it's headed!!!
Still snowing and the wind is howling here. Even though the plow guy came through yesterday he is going to have to come back and probably with the front end loader to clear us out. I gave up last night trying to keep the front stairs cleaned off. Buses are cancelled and the OPP have so many accidents they are calling in everyone who is off duty or on vacation. It was so bad at 1 point yesterday the OPP pulled all of their cruisers off of the road.
Joyce I would love to see a temp of 8!!!!
Betty do you have to venture out to work today? I sure hope not. Frankie Flowers was saying it was pretty wicked up your way too. You be careful about the amount the shovelling you do!!!!
Better get moving the boys are telling me they hare hungry.
Stay safe and warm everyone.
Dianne
Had to double check where I lived when I saw the weather forecast for the next several days. Know it is no where near as bad you guys further north are having but for this area........trouble. We are just inside the cusp of the wintery mix that is suppose to move in tonight. Today we are to expect a high of 74 but tomorrow is predicted to be mid 40 with 30 to follow on Wednesday........rain chances high (100 %) for both days. People down here just do not know how to drive in that type of icy road weather. Yes, they are saying there will be icy roads to deal with both days.
I am so hoping they will cancel school as I do not want Kim to be driving in that type of mess.
Stay warm everyone and don't venture out unless you have to do so......really necessary that is.
I'm in, hand sewing binding on a Christmas throw, yep, wicked wicked out there so just going to relax and go with the flow..we were figuring how many no snow days there were in January...think they an be counted on one hand.
Luckily I have a long drive so unlike you Dianne don't need a loader in but if keeps up driveway will get shorter and shorter from the accumulation.
Dianne, so glad you don't have to be out and about, inside warm in cozy I hope you and the boys are..you know weather is bad when they don't want to go out.
Paul had to be in Ottawa this week, I see this mornimg he is still at home, likely he will not make the trip over the next few days..
Rita works from home so I'm upstairs watching tv but do think once lunch time comes I will be finished all the handsewing I had kept for such a day and I will need to take on another project.
Joyce, tell Bertie to think spring, by then the healing will be done and she will be out in her beatiful gardens and beautiful they are! Hard dong nothing..did you bring her gardening magazines to go through..how is Bill?
Marion, hard thinking your schools could get cancelled but when I think of icy roads I can understand why you wouldn't want Kim driving.
I took Bertie 5 books to read. Didn't think about taking her magazines. Guess that can be next trip over. Think she's getting fed upmwith her male companionship!
Bill is doing ok. This cold weather is hard on him being on blood thinner. He just gets chilled to the bone so easily then can't seem to get warm. I'm looking forward to Spring!!
Yes, I know 8 would seem warm to some of you. Saturday I had to go out and the wind was so awful! I had a hat on that tied under the chin and it still tried to fly off. Drifting on the roads was awful. So glad when I got home from that mess!
Have you heard how the twins are doing at home, Betty?
Morning everyone!
You guys sure are getting the bad weather. Sure hope it lets up soon! It was 80 yesterday, but today's highs is maybe 60. And they are calling for freezing rain tonight. Amazing how fast the temps can change.
That's how I feel with my old thin blood, like my very bones are cold.
