Morning all..another cold day in my neighborhood. Brrr
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1347241/
Where do we find us hibernating? Is it in LindaKay's living room, is her neighborhood the warmest of us all or is it at Marion's or Thunder's?
Thought I would sart a new thread, problem is now I'm on the wrong thread to re-read and post so will do so in a bit
Not yet fully awake but I do remember the stages for healing broken bones, interesting to know, I too wondered if you aren't able to use it how can one get therapy without doing further damage.
Susan, wow didn't take long to get answers re Bob's health issues..bet he's already saying stop woman with all these changes, bit at a time. Lol. Am I right?
Coffee awaits, back in a bit

Best/Worse/What did I learn today?Chat with friends
Not too warm here this morning. 28 right now, but warmer than those of you up north!
6 here I guess we're having a heat wave.
NINE (9) F here in Thunder Bay! Yesterday it was -32 !
Sure can't say we aren't a hearty breed of folks up here ... a nice way of saying we're NUTS to live here LoL
Crissy .. bones do heal in several stages, any kind of weight being lifted with your kind of a fracture is kind of chancey. Good luck with physio, but, I think the cast would have been better ON for a couple of more weeks.
Susan .. Lorna's Mom has to watch her cholestrol .. she eats beef, a portion as big as the palm of her hand. A dietician told her that, and, well done.
Have they put Bob on any meds ?
Betty are you getting this 'heat wave'?
I'm off outside to shovel snow, because, as the temps rise, the snow falls .. fact of life ^_^
Toodles
~M~
No, -28 then add in wind chill factor, say it will be in high 30 to low - 40's by later today
28 here this morning so I guess we need to check in on Thunder's temps. Our high is suppose to be 47....we shall see.
Same temps as Betty here with snow forecasted beginning late afternoon. Whoever said "its too cold to snow' obviously is not telling the truth. Marion I think I would gladly take a high of 47!!!
Been up since 6am and still haven't had breakfast so I best get something into me. BBL
D
Don't remember which thread we were talking about the Ott lights but JoAnn has them at 50% off with free shipping over $50.
The floor lamp I have is quite pretty Reg $269. now $135. w/ free shipping.
Dianne, I know.....:-) but for us southern gals that isn't the best of temps. There have been days though that I wish I could see some of the snow y'all have been talking about. Notice I said "days" not week after week.
Karen I saw that about the Ott lights also......humm, do I need another one? Who knows.
Actuall Dianne Rita said the same, thought it couldn't snow in extreme cold..hmmm we should check to see why it can..wish our Jean was about, she was our resident researcher.
Wasn't me about the Ott lights Karen, remember I bought the electric/battery charged Ott light when a liquidation centre got them in, I must have bought 20 or so for me and friends, think I have 4 around the craft room, then got a gooseneck one with a magnifier on it so I'm looked after
I'd be in shorts in 47 degree weather..ahhh to have the sun on my face!
Got this in an email...
Cold is a relative thing ya know....
At 65 degrees, Arizonans turn on the heat. People in Michigan plant gardens.
At 60, Californians shiver uncontrollably. People in Michigan sunbathe.
At 50, Italian & English cars won't start. People in Michigan drive with the windows down..
At 40, Georgians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats. People in Michigan throw on a flannel shirt.
At 35, New York landlords finally turn up the heat. People in Michigan have the last cookout before it gets cold.
At 20, People in Miami all die. Michigan residents close their windows.
At 0, Californians fly away to Mexico . People in Michigan get out their winter coats.
At 10 below zero, Hollywood disintegrates. The Girl Scouts in Michigan are selling cookies door to door.
At 20 below, Washington DC runs out of hot air. People in Michigan let their dogs sleep indoors.
At 30 below, Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Michigan residents get upset because they can't start the snowmobile.
At 40 below, ALL atomic motion stops. People in Michigan start saying..."Cold enough for ya, eh?"
At 50 below, hell freezes over. Michigan public schools will open 2 hours late.
How cold does it have to be to snow... it all depends on the moisture.

Marilyn - we can't afford meds...... we have $83 to our name at the moment.......
and I'm officially scared - our neighbour, who is a nurse - said Bob's passing out is indicative of a stroke.......
((Susan and Bob))
Betty, Trenton is about 1 hour away from me, I'd love to meet up with you for a coffee and a chat. When is the wedding? Maybe we could coax Debbie to come to my house and she and I could drive over to meet you.
Still bitterly cold enough the pups won't walk with me. Wimps!!!!
D
Susan, don't you guys in Canada get free health care and meds?
Well ladies, I am off to San Antonio for the week end. Going to see my Granddaughter. I will be back Sunday, and I will try to post when I can.
No LK 'free' health care is a bit of a misnomer.
safe travels LK!!
Sorry, I was under the impression that Canadians got free health care.
we go to a hospital for free, but if we want anything extra, we pay out-of-pocket.
Meds are definitely not free......
All health care covered here in Ontario..prescrions not
When you are 65 95% of them are covered
When I think of Ann's grandson and grandaughter and all the health issues , special care, home services being covered
Jim in the hospital then hospice and not a dime to pay
My doctor and specialist appt as well as rehab when I go all covered
Mom having in house care by nurse for her leg 3 times a month and no charge
Lordy WE ARE INDEED BLESSED
Anything not covered is likely someone aling wouldn't need
Can imagine you are worried..You will feel better when he has been through the tests
I had to pay extra when they moved Warren in to a private room. We carry extra coverage that pays for the upgrade from being in a ward (4 - 6) beds to a semi. I did not have to pay for the ambulance but I have no idea why as some people are billed. We also carry Extended Health insurance that pays for 85 % of the Rxs. Even once you are 65 there are some meds that are not covered by the Ont Health system. I was glad we did as some of Warren's meds were VERY expensive and not covered Some people don't have the luxury of being able to pay for the extra insurance. Everyone has to pay a dispensing fee the rate slides geared to your income.

The Canadian medical system is a weird one to say the least.
I was in hosp for 4 days , had my hip replaced, meds, xrays, physio .. came out with a bill of $200. owing which the extended Insurance we pay for covered .
Like Dianne says, it's good if you can take out the extended insurance. I'm hoping we can claim it on our Income Tax, have heard you can.
HERE COMES the SNOW, again, and temps are plummeting .. boggles the mind !
~M~
Still very very reasonable though..
Keep the snow "M"
Thankfully no fresh snow for the high winds to cause kaos right now..
Put a ham in the oven a d shortly "M & M's" scalloped potatoes..will have my bath while that is cooking then see if I've energy to go downstairs and do something!
Look forward to pj's all weekend
we have the provincial health coverage, but no company coverage, so no prescription coverage.
We would have to pay for an ambulance. The plus side of calling an ambulance is - the paramedics "pre-screen" you and if it's needed, you get priority. You could have the same issue if you walk into Emergency, but of course without a pre-screen, you do Not get priority.
NOT warm at Thunders....nope. not here Warmer than Canada, and New England. but way to dang cold to me!!! 42 with wind chill. freeze warning on again for tonight.
I have not been out since return from Dr yesterday. I have been "locked in" Had a bad asthma attack the other day, and got the dang virus going round. Dr said I have sinusitis and almost bronchitis. its been predicted to be pretty darn cold for the next few days. So Dr said I had to stay in!!! Also have barely any voice. cold air does that to me every time!!! I was scheduled off work Tues and Wed, so Dr said stay in till next Thurs !! hope it will get warmer by then.
Wish I felt a bit better, so I could get some Sewing done!!! did cut a few pieces today, after agonizing over color choices for the Washington DC block, in the globetrotting with Pat Sloan mystery.
Have not even looked at the lesson for Delightful stars.
Susan, I have very high cholesterol. do have to take meds. but Dr says red meat is ok in moderation. try to eat more fruits and vegs. when I do eat red meats I eat a bigger portion of vegs than portion of meat. and cook it with garlic. garlic is god for lowering the bad #'s.
LK that cold thing was cute. we see folks here in shorts, and we are all wearing jeans and sweat shirts. sneakers instead of flip flops....can spot the tourists...even at 50's they are comfortable...me I'm freezing. I like 80 !!!
I think it was Jaye wanted to know about ott light sales. I will tell her on facebook.
9* when I left for work at 7:30 this morning!
Marilynne Thunder Bay Ontario and Lowell, Arkansas was the same temp!!!!
Yes it definitely should have been left in the cast, it should be taken off at 8 weeks, not 4. She messed up on that one. It doesn't hurt at all and I have to remind myself all the time that I can't use it, quite frustrating.
Susan the prescreen is the same way here. I don't have med insurance yet and so far the bills for my arm are at $1500 and I'm only half way through. To get checked out at Urgent Care last week was $160 up front then about $70 for the RX.
Thunder - it is NOT warmer where you are, than Canada. It was 54F here today.... it's very normal for Calgary for the temps to even get higher this time of year - chinook winds :-) gotta love 'em!
Crissy - YIKES! I wouldn't be able to live in the US with the prices so high! The pre-screen by the paramedics costs nothing..... it's simply the cost of the ambulance ride....
We don't get charged for going to the hospital, either.
My point was just that if you've been looked at and tested by the paramedics before you arrive at the hospital, it's quicker wait time to get into the hospital.
If I were to break something, and get it treated, it would cost nothing except for the cost of the medication (which I could get at WalMart, and cost a lot less!
We do pay taxes though, and that "covers" the cost of hospital fees, and Drs..... it's a hidden fee, obviously, in the taxes.....
You know whats sad Susan, is if I had insurance the emergency room would have billed the insurance company $30,000, the insurance company would make them give about $25,000 worth of discounts, then pay $4000 and send me a bill for the $1000 remaining. I got a bill for $835.
The bone doc would be handled the same way, I owe $567 so far, and the therapist charges $35 a visit, my co-pay is $40, so its a catch 22.
This message was edited Jan 24, 2014 10:58 PM
That IS sad.... you'd be more out of pocket if you had insurance.... how is that possible?!?! it's the same service, just a "middle man" ie: insurance company....
Morning all,
It's a stay at home day, deep freeze, high winds/snow and white outs..
Just about to get dressed and go clear off the vehicles so when Andrew comes to plow I can move the vehicles.
Mom will be disappointed but I'm not about to take my life in my hands for a visit, am sure she will understand.
Thunder, sorry to hear you are unwell, rest is the key..much the same IRS going around here..Suzanne didn't take care and now she is in bed with pneumonia soooo no sewing girl, keep warm, lots of fluid and rest. Your mystery Quilt will have to remain a mystery for the time being.
LindaKay, loved your post..yep, can always tell a Canadian in Florida, everyone with jackets on and we are n sorts. Lol. Are you back to normal now..
Crissy, have you spoken to the individual who took the cast off at 4 weeks ??
Susan, just heard there was a pipeline explosion just outside of Winnipeg, luckily no deaths, at least they believe there are none, more will be known when daybreak comes..they did evacuate 5 or 6 homes..glad it happened in what sounds to be a remote area
Housework done, turkey shortly to be in the oven, now to pick a project to entertain myself
Ohh must tell you, Sharon called about 9:30pm worried..asked me what might have for Melanie to have posted that her love for Noah far exceeds her love for Noah..someone made a comment and she replied she didn't care if Kyle knew, infact she texted him the same..I said in no way Melanie would ever post such a thing..as we spoke another post from Melanie saying nobody had hacked her Facebook account..I called over, Noah answered, I asked where his mom was, outside in the hot tub, he asked ifmhe could give her a message? I said absolutely, wanted to know if something was wrong with Kyke and she because o
Of posts, noah started to laugh, said she was in hot tub, left her phone on the table so he was making the posts..told him to get on it and put a stop to it..brat
All I can say after shovelling is. WOW,double WOW
In order to keep up am sure I will have to shovel every hour on the hour..need toast and coffee again
You take it very easy with that shovel Betty!!!! Is Rita there? Can you take turns? It is around 0* here this morning and not supposed to warm up much during the day.
Would you like me to send you the links to the BOMs we are doing? I like them because with the exception of backgrounds and backing, I am using material I have already. And the best part is doing it with friends like in our swaps but no mailing expense. I guess I should posted this in the sewing thread but I post when the thoughts go through my mind! LOL
Norm's nephew will be coming later today and I'm making a boiled ham dinner. It will be great...
Ohhh we are all ahead of the game with plans for din din
Looking forward to turkey dinner, just realized no turnip..one can't have turkey dinner without turnip so might have to brave the storm if I don't find some in the freezer left from Xmas..
Enjoy his visit
Sounds like you are getting the weather today that we had yesterday. Everyone was told to stay home because of blizzard, white out conditions that the plows couldn't keep up with. Every time Molly went out, she came back in totally white from the snow. Silly dog that she is, she loves it out there.
We have the cold but aren't supposed to get much of the snow. Some tonight is a maybe. It may go south of us as the cold comes down from the north.....
big sigh
Rita just came in from shovelling and cleaning off vehicles..municipal plow just went by so likely Andrew will be here anytime..he's so quick that he is in and out before we know it so we are on a mission, taking turns upstairs.
while I move my vehicle I'll go to foodland and pick up turnip and lightbulbs, lordy they are making ever so cheap, I just put a few in and already they are burnt out and they are not $$$ store bulbs, maybe I should get them there.
just put backing on the pieces I have ready for quilting..laughing at Rita, think she's finding things to do so she will not have to try quilting..not going to get away with it
do keep out of the cold and snow..
can you believe a month has already gone by since Christmas
time is just a flying
Waiting for Dorothy and ToTo to fly by here! Course were they to do so they'd be frozen solid.
In other words, we have cold, windy weather .. some blowing/drifting snow, but, it's sunny sunny sunny ..
Laundry is on the go and I am about to make a ham and hash brown casserole for supper. SO easy to make, and delish !
Susan .. there is a loophole in the ambulance calling situation .. IF your doctor provides you with a 'chit' signed by him/her stating he advises you call an ambulance if Bob passes out. That way, your ambulance charge is covered. This is in Ontario, and I have seen it done.
Betty, I sure hope Noah set everyone on FBook straight .. had a friend whose young daughter did much the same, Leah is 14, Lisa (Mom) left her iPod open and activated, Leah (she's a scamp) logged on and reported to everyone on her Mom's FBook page that she (the Mom) was pregnant !!! Strung everone along royally until there was a knock at the door, the next door neighbour (a good friend) KNEW it wasn't so, caught Leah in the act .. so happy I'm the only 'techie' person in this house !
Lorna's parents are in a HUGE snowstorm down around Toronto .. telling us there are over 400 people stranded on the 400, near Shelburne (sp)
Hope you're staying in Betty .. eat potatoes instead of turnip, or, carrots ^_^
The Blue Jays are flying around, they want their peanuts !!!!!!!
LOL yesterday there were folks in Bermuda shorts running around, car windows open music blaring and it was +7F ... must be CANADA !!!!!!!!
Best get busy shredding cheese and cutting up ham ..
Toodles

Hi...I'm here, just lurking.
Have kept you all in daily prayers.
We've been pretty busy here, and well one day my "rubberband" just quit stretching.
I am at kind of at a loss. Quite a lot has happened...Have had many discussions on what to do and pretty much the bottom line is as things are happening, there really isn't much I can do or say that will help the situation, I am just stuck in the middle of a several wicked spider webs, and so with that, I did what i always do and just sorta went into hibernation mode! I was telling Steve last night, i need to get a good swift kick back into the world and quit feeling sorry for my self or I should say feeling guilt, that i just can't help the things that are going on...So I actually got on the wagon of doing a super sweep through this house starting with my craft area!! Oh good gosh, what a disaster, then followed with the filing of stuff and purging the unnecessary...just those two things have taken so much time. My house is almost to the point where I can actually do a good wipe down.
Why on earth do we save this stuff?? We are probably well, not we, DH is a hoarder! if he brings home one more piece of junk, I think I will run away....Debbie, i really need to use your 2x4.
Sigh...
Thunder, I am so sorry...I have had your Santa Warren pressie ready since New years...my box for shipping was thrown awaay, finally got another and well couldn't find where i put the money to ship!! Ok, so finally found that too, so your pressie will be on the way first thing Monday Morning. I've been driving Jake to train station and ohwah, just realized there is a Post office right across the street, works out percfectley....Absolutley a wonderful picture of your Son and his girls!! Meleana's job description of Dad's job brought tears to my eyes...
I need to go get a few things finished.
But i do hope you all can forgive me for not being able to express my thoughts lately, I am just not me these days...
Oooh and Betty!! Guess what i found too, will also go in the mail...The Christmas card with workshop check, thought it went out along time ago! So, did I miss where your Mom has been? I hope she is ok.
Barbara so very sorry to here of your Loss. I'm glad your Brother will come when the weather is better.
Hope you have a great visit today!
Susan, sure hope Bob gets good results and some meds. How frightening for you both!
Glad the plaque was found, and glad to hear your are getting daily updates on your Mom, so glad she was able to sit in a chair...
Linda kay!! OMG, Blackie is gorgeous! So glad he AND Luna get along so great.
Awe you have a wonderful visit. LOL, on the weather list!!
We have been in the minus, will be plunging again...
Dianne!! So good to see you...
Alright, need to go back and re-read some things, lol.
Have a good morning...Betty, please be extra careful with all that shoveling, yikes get Noah over and keep his hands busy! Kids today!!
