My Mom used to add oatmeal to her meatloaf. I did not care for it. I use breadcrumbs.
SWEET INTERUPTIONS 278
that would be like chewing on rubber, LK!
Only Italian breadcrumbs for me too.
LOL Well I do use bread but I soak it in milk quite a while prior to mixing into the meat. My mom used to make it with a can of tomatoes in it but alas I can't do that. Talk about a mess!!
Marion, just torn day old bread! No pre soaking. Kel said he tried to tell his mother to use breadcrumbs and she said that's how her mother taught her. There were plenty of leftovers when it's meat loaf dinner. Kel said it's unappetizing to be pulling out chunks of oil soaked bread from the meat loaf!!
I don't use tomatoes neither. And I prefer brown gravy on my meatloaf. Around here it's red sauce. Kel loves that.
I would hate to pull out chunks of bread also. I mash mine so I am not even sure if the kids knew I had used bread slices. I also add onions, oregano and eggs. I make a topping of catsup, brown sugar and nutmeg.....Catie-Beth always tells me to make sure there is plenty of red stuff on top......think it is the slight sweetness she like.
You cut them into small pieces Marion, and soaked. That makes a huge difference.
Same reason I use Italian bread crumbs.. oregano and parsely in it!
I may have to add nutmeg when cooking Kel's sauce, as I love that stuff.
Laughing at CB! She'd be a food critic one day!
Guess we are all a bit different. I mix in a bit of ground pork, veal too if available, and egg, some milk, sorry I do use oatmeal, and a packet of Lipton's Onion Mushroom dry soup mix. I put lots of catsup and brown sugar on top. I actually like it best the next day in a sandwich.
I've never tried mixing it up with ground pork, but had used ground turkey.
I cook my meatloaf in the cast iron skillet, and I place slices of bacon in the pan, then the meatloaf.
Everything tastes good with bacon!! LK I think you've seen this.
Got great news sistahs..

My DH has not one romantic bone in his body. I guess I get all the romance from the books I read. LOL Very seldom holds hands. I should have thought about that more when I was going with him. I had hoped to change him, what a surprise when I found out I couldn't. I just tied a big knot in that hope and held on. If you want the truth and I could do it over again I don't think I would have married him. Now, saying all that, I probably would have done the same thing and not used any smarts. I'm always there for him now, he wouldn't know what to do without me. We get along better in our older years I think. Men!!
Well, rain is coming, so they say. It was cool out, perfect for working in the yard. My son went up on the ladder and cut back all the vines I couldn't reach and I filled up a green waste barrel with a lot of it. Started on the second barrel. If the rain doesn't come tomorrow I'll clean up some of the vines that have collected behind the old tin shed. There might be a barrier that doesn't let the rain come over Norwalk.
sure hope you Ca people get some rain soon. Saw on the news that some communities may run out ! yikes sending rain thoughts to you all.
the thing with my husband Tim is he is addicted to work and truly would rather have a root canal done or needles in his eyes then to spend time with me. I don't understand why he won't just divorce me ? but when a man has a built in nanny . ?
he likes the idea of having a house maid.
i watched the Butler the other weekend and its really good ! love it. anyone else see it ? and what did you think ?
i would like to see 12 yrs a slave also.
today is grocery day. and phone calls
I have not seen that movie.
I saw the Butler. I loved it as we'll.
Bill is a sweetie, but not real demonstrative. He does hold my hand occasionally, hugs me from time to time and always replies with I love you, too. However, he ALWAYS says that dinner is good and thanks me for making it. He's also always there for me when my heart is hurting, and if think that is a very important thing!
Going to get my hair trimmed today. Hopefully the snow that's coming down right now will stop!
Sue, have you talked with Tim about divorce yet?
Waiting on Netflix for the Butler. It has great reviews.
So, Bill and Darwin have Kelvin's traits too! Undemonstrative!! At least Bill willingly hold your hands, Cookie.
Oh well, Kel does thank me profusely for the meals I cooked or bought!
Forty today. Schools are closed and yes Karen, we don't know how to live with the white stuff!!
Had to attend to some 'official' business and wasn't aware that the state and city offices delayed opening their doors by TWO frickin' hours!!
Don't tell me the office workers need that much time to get to work? The roads are clear, no ice, no snow. Can't go back home as it's a 30 minute drive, so, we went to a breakfast shack. It was packed with city workers!!!!!!
Then we took our time at WM, which was almost empty. Most of the bread were gone! I told Kel that it would be impossible to find Spam! True!
Stay warm my sistahs.
had surgery yesterday
50 here today
schools closed
church was closed wed. nite, but I still prayed
waiting for april
my party is tomorrow
Michael cleaned the house and shampooed carpets
Sammy getting groomed today.
I need a nap but got a billion things to do
Hope you heal quickly Kathy, and Happy early Birthday!
thanks linda
That rain never did hit here, in fact the sun is out now. So disappointed in all this dry weather. The governor is talking about taking water from southern Ca. to northern Ca. as they need it. Well, I want to know what we are suppose to do! I may not have a garden this year if the water situation doesn't change. DH asked if he could have a cup of coffee today, he never drinks it. He sure drops a bomb shell on me from time to time. But feeling better and I'm glad to hear that.
My poor Sami isn't feeling good. She sits by my feet and has thrown up a couple of times. Guess I will have to give her a little more love. Mandy must know how she feels as she isn't bugging her to run and play.
Pegi, I do hope you get some rains so you can enjoy a little gardening! How old is Sami? Give her some clear Pedialyte, add a little corn syrup or honey if she can't hold her food down. That will help her from being too dehydrated.
Auntie Jaye is sending hugs.
LK, thanks for that notice about Yahoo. My email was compromised! And I'm one that change passwords frequently!! Thank God, I don't use the same password for all online accounts.
Had a good laugh with Sis Kathy over the phone!! Brother Michael said he wanted to see a pic of me in a bikini. I told him that unless he's wanting a snow blizzard!! Lolol!!
I'd empty planet earth if I were to pose in a bikini!!
For those of you not on Facebook, I posted a news article that said Yahoo emails were hacked, and they warned to change your emails.
I should look some of you up on facebook. If I knew your real names that is... but yes I love meatloaf. Sandwiches the next day are always yummy!!!! A little ketchup and mayo on mine please... lol. We just got done eating spaghetti, broccoli, and garlic bread. Why am I thinking of food?.. not hungry at all.
I am Jaye Blanchard on FB, Ronna!
I love the sandwiches just that way, ketchup and mayo.
Hi all ,so sorry that I have been MIA for so long ! It's just been a rough couple of years ,hopefully this one will have a few rainbows .Between July 29,2012 and Sept. 12,2013 I have lost 3 family members and 2 lifelong friends ,starting with my momma and ending with my sweet cousin Tracy..........it has just too much for my heart and mind to take ! And I could go on and on telling you all horror stories about momma and Tracy ,but I'm not ready to set here for hours and fill you all in .All I can say is there are a few people that will defiantly answer to God "IF" they make it that far !!!
I have cabin fever so bad with this crazy bipolar winter !!! At least Rick and Ryan are both working good ! Except I worry myself sick when the roads are bad and they have to travel back and forth to work .And the when it is sub zero arctic ,Rick works outside no matter what the weather !
But on a brighter note Rick said he is going to see to it that I am able to come see you all at the sistah's get-together !!!!!!!! He goes to Norwalk ,OH every year to see the NHRA with John Force and all those Drag Racing guys and he said it my turn to do something and he'll not go this year .So all I can say is Come On Spring !!! So Dmail me all the info and I can get a few things in order !
Love and Miss Everyone !!!!
My momma ,Tracy , Tracy's Husband ,Dave and their 2 kids she left behind,Lindsay and Brian .
Looking for Rainbows ..........
Sorry to hear your going through so much Synda.
Hey Cody.
My name is Linda Cartwright.
how do you change your email on yahoo ?
got to grocery market and the reduced meat section was deals and deals.
2 beef roasts @ buy one get one free
2 pork roast 4.00 each
4 steaks @ buy one get one free
5 lbs of lean ground beef @ 4.99 lbs. ( its organic Lauras Lean Beef , usually 6.99 lbs)
3 filet mignons yes that was a special buy, not an ordinary purchase
i think we are good for 6 months ! , we eat meat maybe 2 times a week or 3 if their are left overs.
i have been trying to keep up with the Amanda Knox story. wow its still going on.
Synda i m sorry to hear the last few years have been so rough. LEts hope the year of the horse s your year to shine ! :)
Wow synda so sorry about your losses very sad for you and the family. ♥♥♥♥ and hugs to you. We had the same thing one year in our family too. My cousin who was very athletic and my grandma four months later. Very hard.
Hi Cody .....Hope all is well with you
Thank You all for your hugs ! Yes , it has all just been very overwhelming and on top of momma passing away I had a lump in my right breast (after a biopsy we found it to not be cancerous yet) but with my Cousins Tracy and Beverly (Beverly was the other family member that passed in July of 2013) having breast cancer they wanted to take it out.So since God found the generosity to give me enough for 5 women and taking out the lump would cause a deformity since it was deep, I had a whole chest reduction October 4 of 2012 ( they took 7 lbs off) I was a G cup and now I'm a B/C and as perky as a 20 year old..... Everything as far as the surgery went well ,but even though I was 50 years old ,I still wanted my momma .I learned it doesn't matter if you are 5 or 50 you still want your momma when you are sick or have a boo boo ! I wasn't allowed to do anything for 6 months because of how much you use your chest muscles and the fact that there was ,the doctor put it HUNDREDS of stitches and they were afraid I'd tear something inside .My doctor was amazing ,a very rare thing these days .Thank God Ryan wasn't working and had just moved back home .He did all the cooking and was here when Rick wasn't if I needed anything. He even cooked Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners . He even learned how to bake ,made cheesecakes and Bavarian Cream fill cupcakes for the Fire Dept. Christmas Party .Rick and Ryan are both Volunteer Firemen on top of there jobs . Boy did I ever hate it when Ryan found a job ,my cook was gone .....LOL.
I still have good days and bad ,sometimes more bad than good .But time will soften the losses .I learned that 33 years ago when my son passed away.
This crappy weather has really played havoc on my fibromyalgia ,talk about a roller coaster ride .
Sue those are some good buys ,but would only last about a month here ,but I am feeding 2 men .Rick works out in the elements and Ryan works 12 hour shifts , so I try and cook nice meals for them most of the time.....but I do get tired of cooking ...,,remember my cook got a job.....LOL .Boy did I get spoiled !!!
Ryan is at my youngest brothers this weekend building a computer . I'm not sure if he'll be home today or Sunday ,but they a fire meeting Sunday at 6 pm so he'll need to be home to go to that .Trust me ,sometimes it is a pain having an intelligent child .Thank God he has his own money to fill his wants as it can become quite expensive ! With what he has wrapped up in parts to build the "perfect" computer it should at least do dishes !!!! I am so very blessed with Ryan ,he will just automatically go buy groceries and help out financially when needed .
Rick has been awesome through all of my grief ,I didn't want coddled ,intimacy ,anything . I just wanted left alone to deal with my pain and get things straight in my head .And he just has stepped aside and let me have my space and give into my whims when I wasn't being logical .But ,we all deal with grief differently ! When he'd walk in and I'd be crying all he'd say was "did I do anything wrong" ,and I'd say "no I'm just having a moment" and he'd say "ok ,as long as it wasn't me"....LOL.
He is a picture of my wonderful ,handsome 27 year old son .....
Sending gentle hugs to welcome you back Synda. I'm so sorry for all your loss and I'm glad to see you are healing. It takes forever sometimes before we are able to talk about or to share our loss. But when we do, it is such a great feeling to know that our friends are still there and have always been there. High praises to your Rick and Ryan. It is wonderful to know they came through for you when you needed them most. Looking forward to hearing from you again....
good morning
LOL yes Synda i bet you are cooking good man meals. They would wizzle away at my house on sticks and twigs LOL . wow a G cup !!!! dear God woman how did you manage to stay upright ??? . Very handsome young man you got there .
i have yoga today and am looking forward to it.
then Austin has baseball on sunday.
hi cody, I am Kathy hoffay-jordan
I bet that is a big relief to have them reduced! I have back problems because of mine the same size as y ours were, but I can't get my Dr.s to get the paper work done to get insurance to approve it.
Cody I am doing fine, getting over the crud I had since New Years. I still have a little cough now and then, but doing a lot better now.
Sue, looks like you hit the jackpot at the store!
Looks like were going to have a nice day, it is 61 right now, and supposed to reach 77! Still not doing anything in the gardens, as I know we still have a good chance at a good frost or two!
Hello Cody!!! Good to see you girl! Did Alex had that chance to play in some snow?
Goodness gracious!! I am so happy you've decided to visit us Synda! I've been telling you that you're missed here, and now, I can take a break from following you on Facebook!! Lol!!
Ryan looks so much like Jet Black but much more handsome.
So good to have Cody and Synda back!
Yes LK, I need to get mine looking like Synda's too. I've been wondering too Sue, why I have kept myself upright for this long! But it's our backs that suffer so much, and having no insurance, no way I can get that reduction done.
Off to Dollar General. Five dollars off thirty today. Every little savings on pet food helps! Plus Spam is much cheaper there! Kel loves Spam sandwich, and I like it in rice porridge.
Gonna make that stop for DD coffee first! Badly addicted to that :( Not good for the teeth I know.. but I need that caffeine!
Joy! Joy! Joy!!!
Barb, is your addy listed the new one?
Jaye we love fried spam sandwiches.
Enjoy your coffee.
Barb I can't tell you how many times I came and lurked reading about you all ,I just couldn't find a place in my brain to start typing ! But each and everyone of you were on my mind and in my heart all this time !
Linda Kay I went and had a consult with a plastic surgeon and he got the approval (they weighed me ,measured the breast and ask questions as to how I was effected physically) from my ins. all I had to pay was my $500 deductible and then 20 % up front to the doctor and then $187 to the hosp. And if I remember correctly the surgery/doctor and my 2 day stay in the hospital came to roughly $20,000 give or take .I never knew that my hands going numb was caused from my breast .....I knew the pain in my back and shoulder blades were from them. But I had let it go for so long that I still have back issues and my pelvis had started to spiral because of how I'd walk once my back would start hurting and I just kept pushing myself. So that is still causing me issues and pain. But I have started to learn to stop and take break before I break.
