Sweet Interruptions 276: Ringing in the New Year

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, I did see that and it brought chill bumps and tears. Fisher's son has been/is very sick and it appears the entire team has adopted him. That says something for the guys in my book.

Well Tebow may have found his job after all. Maybe not playing football but predicting the wins..he missed by one point last night.

That's a great photo Marion. My youngest DD has various kids help her in the kitchen, They always enjoy themselves. Here is Nevaeh (alias Monkey Butt) helping with the sweet potatoes at Christmas.

Love that smile Karen. Catie-Beth usually gives us a smile like that but yesterday she was a "tad" calmer...thank goodness. She says she is the wicked chef.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I think kids in the kitchen is awesome for all concerned. They will always remember who took the time with them.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I so agree but so far only CB has shown an interest. Abbi is more of a bookworm (not in a bad way) and game player.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

It's the same with sewing Marion some interested, some not. It's all good.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Marion that cake looks yummy. Love that smile.
Karen sounds your going to have company for awhile. Sure hope he can find a job soon.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I've already told them both, we can give them a home but we cannot support them. They have to look diligently for work right away. We will take care of Amelia, oh darn, but they must contribute to expenses. They also are taking some bills with them that need to be seen to. I love them much but they must be adults and help themselves too.

Karen, I do hope they'll get a job soon, even if flipping burgers for a while.
They must be relieved that they won't be living in a shelter.

Marion, Tim was right in a way. Auburn missed that field goal kick!

You all won't believe this, but I hated the kitchen for Mum was an ogre, always giving me kitchen duties. On weekends, or when school was in the afternoon session, at the age of seven, cooking rice fell on me. No electric rice cooker those days. Had to cook on charcoal stove, and of course, fanning the ambers when the flames start to die. Later, I progressed in getting the spices ready (having to pound them in a granite pestle and mortar after toasting) for certain dishes. No shortcuts with mum.
The worse part was cleaning pounds of fish!! That's a staple and when there's a large family, I swear sometimes it took me hours, squatting to scale, gut and sometimes fillet the fish !

Great old Mum without me knowing, actually taught me how to feed my husbands!! Lol!!
I'm so spoilt now with the rice cooker that I forgot how to do it on the stove!! Cookie had to show me how!

Okay sistahs, at what age did you start cooking?

Got beef vege soup cooking. Perfect for 28 degrees. Supposed to drop to low teens later. Stay warm sistahs.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Guess it is nice and warm here at 48.
I started cooking at about 8 or 9. We had 4 kids in the family and everyone pitched in doing something. Peeling potatoes, cooking fish. Dad was an avid hunting and fisherman so we always had fish or deer meet to process.

That's one thing I never do, cleaning game LK.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We got good at cleaning fish and deer. Fish left overs went to the garden for fertilizer.
We ate so much salmon growing up and I refuse to eat it now. I love small fish like bass, catfish but I will pass on the salmon.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I guess I started in the kitchen by 8 or 9 also. By 11, both my parents worked so I pretty much had charge of two sisters and house. We also had a foster child 2 that followed me around and called me mum. I learned well and good thing too as I married at 16 and was well prepared to keep house. I only helped clean fish once when hubby got a huge catch of smelt. Don't do game, don't clean it, don't eat it for the most part.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yep, lots of football talk, Jaye and everyone. :) The Titans fired head coach Mike Munchak and will James Franklin go to Penn State or stay at Vandy or maybe even go somewhere else? That's about all I know. lol. But then the topic changed anyway. Just can't keep up. :)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I get a kick out of you ladies that LOVE your football! When's the Super Bowl? I like the commercials. ;o)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

First, the cake is absolutely delicious..provided you like mint and chocolate. Kim found the recipe on FB. It was only a 2 layer cake but so moist and good!!!

I was about 10 or 11 when I started helping mom cook. We had a woodstove and she was always afraid I would get burned. When we got a gas stove I helped more but putting a real meal together can later. No I was not a very good cook when I married at 19 but learned very fast if I could make a good cheese sauce, Ross would eat anything!

Karen, I think it is wonderful you are willing to give them shelter but expressing their need to help., I have seen so many of my friends let their families move in and ended up supporting them also. Even though Kim and I live together, we keep records of all expenditures related to the house, etc and at the end of each month we divide equally. We each buy our own personal items. She is currently replacing bed linens and towels but since they are for her use.....she buys.

Well it is 24 this morning on the deck, warmer than yesterday but still chilly for us. Suppose to get into the low 50s today. We shall see.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Cake sounds yummy. I'm not a fan of chocolate cake, but adding mint makes all the difference!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Not a fan of chocolate cake? That is one of the 7 basic food groups!!! :-) The texture of the cake was more like a really good fudge brownie.....very moist and .....well decadent.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I like decadent.....;o)

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

So do I...be it food or .....................

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL! I knew you would get what I was thinking!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Goes right along with "eye candy"!!!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL, yeap Barb, it sure does! As has been said before "I maybe old but I ain't dead!" :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh man, chocolate mint cake! YUM! Holding my plate for piece of cake please?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning sistahs.
Carole, I don't think Franklin's going anywhere. He has proven that Vandy can be a contender, and he's smart enough to know he's better off staying with a school that got everything going for him. But then, if Penn offer the right incentive, you never know. Elite school.. elite money.. Still, Vandy won't want to lose him, as Franklin has the 'goods' to get great recruits.

Good Lord, my sistahs' minds have gone to the gutter! Marion's only describing decadent delicioso, NOT the homosapien kind ladies!!
Cookie, you got to start something!! Et tu, Barb???
I can't fathom Barb chiming in with eye candy!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK!!!!!!!!! Sistah, won't you like a plate of Liam?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Gutter? I think not....just wishful thinking. :-0

Now ladies, if you will notice that the very first picture of "decadence" just happens to be the one and only Mr. Selleck. Hummm, wonder who that is for? :-)

...and why not Barb? LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Shhh Marion....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Me? Now what did I say? :-)

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oooh Marion, Kel was watching me googling for pics. I HAD to download Sam Elliot, you know.. my promise to be kind to Kel? Lolol!!!! Don't want him to feel insecure that I'm fixed on you know who only ;)

And you dear lady, need to move to the Riviera as your eye candy isn't moving back to the states!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh Jaye anyone of them would be nice.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hehehe.............you got good taste LK!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Naw, think I will just stay here.....besides he dropped several notches on my list when he left the mother of his children for his new toy. :-)

Thats right, you must be nice to Kel...this is his year. BTW, how is he doing with the passing of his dad? I am almost afraid to ask but are things any better with the wicked witch....that must have been my outside voice.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You care, that's why you asked, Marion.
For now, Kel's MIL's favorite son. Oldest one James, has been asking for the return of whatever $$$$ he's given to her, even though her house deed is under his name now.

That's the game she played with all her sons, one son against another. Plus Kel's still too hungry for her approval that he kept 'forgetting' all the past abuse.
Since Murdock's death, she tried to plan the weekends Kel gets off, to include her. After the Thanksgiving fiasco, I don't want to be around her. She has NO right to criticize MY husband in my presence, even though he's her son, to anyone else.
But God in His mercy knows that I can't outsmart a witch and He's been thwarting her plans.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like people never learn.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I so agree with the criticism part Jaye. It just isn't what a mom or anyone should really do. GOOD (yes I did shout) for Kel in not letting her plan his weekends. Without sounding harsh or rude, she has made her bed, now she must lie in it. Sorry. Kel has more than walked his extra mile and I do feel bad he is so hungry for her approval.....sadly it might never come.

Keep each other close as that is what really matters.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Isn't that sad LK? Why can't the likes of her be more like us, sistahs?
We laugh, love and try our very best to make others happy, especially when it's family.
Look at Karen, DH and her weren't thinking about themselves when they agreed to take in there DGS and his family into their home.
I'm afraid, MIL's all about herself.

It is 44 right now, and I'm happy that the teens temps are behind us. We're supposed to see high 70s this weekend. I'm sure whatever's vegetation left is mush now.

Prayer Night tonight.
Yes Ronna, we have Wednesday slotted for group prayer night. Preferably around 9 Eastern time, but God never stipulates time.
If you believe in prayers, please pray for all of us sistahs. God knows what we need.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

P.S.
I so agree with you Marion on the part that MIL will always hold back the natural motherly love from Kel.
It should be enough that Kel checks on her daily.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sis Kathy you can come out now. Johnny Manziel has declared himself for the NFL!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

You forgot Pierce Brosnan, Jaye!
