Best/Worse/What did I learn today?chat with friends old&new

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the update on Dianne. Glad she is doing good!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad Judy there is no hangover today. Lol
Always good to have your family about when the New Year chimes in.

Thanks Debbie, know she was hit hard by mother nature as well..here is hoping she'll soon see sunshine

In bed, will be glad to have the holidays behing me.

Omg this morning I put white load of washing in the dryer just before trying to leave for the city then out I went unable to leave.. With snow to my knees I was soaked when I came in from shovelling so put my slacks in the dryer..

Awhile ago I decided to fold clothes before heading to bed..drats guess who forgot to take her tube of lipstick out of her pockets..what a mess

Rewashed with oxyclean but didn't help

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

OH Betty!!!! Sure hope you have some of that Christmas money left to do some shopping!!! Nothing is worse than lipstick. That is such a shame.....
Happy to know Dianne is okay. Thanks Debbie.

mulege, Mexico

Oh, Betty. I've learned hard to go slow and think and stop when I can't think well (for me). It's like "measure twice, cut once."

I've had a pretty lazy day. Some work in the new garden, a visit with neighbor Dana and a small amount of bedroom cleaning. Also made a loaf of gluten-free bread which came out pretty good, especially for a first try.

Good to hear from Barb; wish things were better for you. Thank you for calling Dianne; I'm really glad to hear she's OK.

Dogs are demanding dinner. I'd best get to wrok.

hugs, katie

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Happy New Year all my dear friends! (((((Betty))))) thinking of you so much today....know it is always a hard day for you. Hugs being sent.

Had our pork and sauerkraut this evening. Mark and his girlfriend came down, Kate ate mashed potatoes and two brownies. She isn't a fan of the traditional New Year meal!

We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow starting any time now. Seems like tomorrow might be a good day to take the tree down.

Just took pumpkin bread out of the oven, I made 9 loaves over the holiday and Bill didn't get a single bite, so I took pity on him and made him some. We're just watching some Netflix and I'm sitting here with my IPad chatting with all of you, I LOVE this thing!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All ;

"Wrapped" in a trash bag.

Judy glad you had a relaxing day... we did too... I'm hoping I can get back "into" the reg. job tomorrow. Nice you could be around kids and family.

I'm forgetting something but over and out for now...

Happy New Year, hugs, lots of love, and prayers for the best for everyone!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all

Brrr -17 but with wind chill factor -27
Tis frosty but I'd rather have the cold then the being snowed in

Barb, oooh you mean I should have saved some of my Christmas $$$, too late,
Was spent in my craft room for storage units and fabric.

Joyce, so nice seeing you post! Wish I'd been at your house yesterday to enjoy some of that home made cooking.nice when you enjoy your Christmas pressie so much

LindaKay, meds working, feeling any better today?

Mary, so glad witchypoo is treating you better, you will feel so much better without her adding to her daily dose of stress each day. Here is hoping its on her New Years resolution list 'treat Mary nice'. How is Lance making out?

Katie, you always give great advice.

Getting ready for the city, won't leave too early as to make sure Jim's needs have been met.

Will stop at the wool shop so that I can pick a project for Sharon to do while she sits with Jim

Just spoke to mom, she thought I might be at Sharon's early this morning to help her do things..
Nope, likely won't be at hospice until 11a.m.

Waiting for my doctor's office to open, they have been off for near two weeks and I need a package she called me about.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning everyone .. feels like a MONDAY to me for some reason .. am thinking the timing of the Holiday season has left everyone in kind of a mixed up state as to what day it is .. I can figure the DATE, it's the DAY that stumps me, but, it IS Thursday (NOT Monday)

Deb, thanks so much for your call to Dianne .. looks as though more snow may be coming her way, Betty's as well.
Duke and Deisel will have some fun ..

Betty, suffice to say I wish you well on your trip into the city .. I sure hope this smack of snow misses you. We're sitting at -42 this morning .. gag me .. !!
UGgggggggggg about the lipstick in with the whites .. I thought only I did that ! Makes a horrifying mess in the machine itself too ..

Mary, it appears 'WitchyPoo' may be starting to have some second thoughts about how she treats folk? Sure do hope so for your sake ..
Best of luck and fortune in the New Year with the Shop ^_^

Katie, I wish I had your perseverance for cleaning! You do it the RIGHT way, kinda chip away at it, whereas I go in at it like a bull at a gate and am pooped out in an hour .. started HANGING up clothes yesterday, trying very determindly to break my habit of hanging tops/sweaters/shirts, on hooks .. when I go to wear the item again, there's the hook mark, so, yesterday ALL got hung on the empty hangers .. crossong my fingers I can stick to that plan!

How's the voice today LindaK? Hope you feel better ..

Happy New Year to Joyce and Judy ..

Barb, will you get the snow that is predicted ?
Hope you are able to stay home if you do !

Off to the gym this morning, then to Hospice to see Jewel.
Leftovers for supper .. YAYAYAYAYAY ..

Morning everyone. Feeling a bit better. I still have a bit of a cough but my head is not as congested.

Betty when do you go back to your Dr.?

Glenview, IL

Good Thursday Morning!!

Had to giggle M, my honey has been saying that all morning, if feels like a Monday. I hope you have a lovely visit with your friend. travel slow and safe...

Oh Katie, how dreadful that road falling into the ocean! I hope it isn't the only road to lead to the US.
Well, that was a silly statement...I'll re-phrase, How long will you have to travel to get to another near by road? So nice to see you are working on your garden, it just but a dream here like Canada and Northern/East, we are buried in snow!! been snowing for the last 36 or so hours. Expecting yet another 2-6 inches more. Well anyway, it's going to put some extra change in my sons wallet...He will most likley spend the day shoveling people out...Sounds like you needed a good rest after your very Busy Christmas Day, I really enjoyed reading about your day. Glad you have a crowded bed to be snuggly warm with your furries!

Oh my gosh Betty, wonderful pictures! Well, now, aren't you nice and organized for the New Year! Hurry, come over and help me, lol...Oh maaan, that is the pits about the lip stick, i sure hope you didn't loose a lot of your whites! if it was just a few things are they they worth the try, there is this stain remover, it's called Grandma's Secret stain remover...works really well. I used it to get the ink stains of my work shirts.
and this white stuff out of a black jacket of Breenies. Yikes, what a mess...lol, or maybe you just toss up your hands and buy new!! I hope you will have a good safe trip to Sharons, I was so glad to see you and friends went back to help Sharon dig out. I sure the transition goes smoothly for all of you, I know its an already tough situation for your mom... Oh wow, love the color of Kyles new snow mobile, i bet he is in his glory for riding out there...I am on the finishing end of my project, I took the first 2 tries and i messed things up, but haha, third times the charm! Figure out what i need to do, so my project for the day day is finish my project!!
Lets, see...So Breenie is in the thinking mode of leaving the job! Again, they screwed her around and she is just about "over" trying. But who knows, she may be able to switch things around with the course she signed up for. Julia and David are doing very well! Awe they actually bought a Christmas tree...It's so sweet, artificial, but they didn't want to worry of keeping it watered or having to vacuum needles for the rest of the year, lol. Also, they bought our Truck the green S10, for Julia, yikes, she has been paying for a cab to go to work, so now she can just pay for gas and be able to go where and when she wants.
Jake and Em are enjoying their break...They both go back on Monday!
Me, well...I'm still nuts, keeping busy with the household stuffs. today will take down all the ornaments and get most Christmas put away. last year, i did it willy nilly, so this year I'm going to organize it much better.
Also, been combing through the job forums. It's just crazy, most of the listings are through agencies and not the actual company, sigh. but i have sent my resume to several, so we shall see.

Waiving Hi Susan, was good to see you pop in. Hope you and Bob are doing well. I was glad to see your Mom is doing much better. Wow, what certain meds can afflict such scarey times. Glad they straightened out.

Oh Now, Betty...How wonderful Addy is home. Everyone must be just thrilled. Oh yes answered prayers and Christmas Miracles happen every day. Continued prayers for both Addy and Alex to continue to grow strong and healthy.

Linda kay, I hope you are feeling better.
Speaking of which, i finally talked briefly with Moonbeam yesterday...She is down with something that's given her laryngitis!

Thank you for the Update Debbie about Dianne, oh gosh poor Deisel, that must have scared the heck out of them. But i am really glad they are all doing good considering the circumstances, Sure hope they get the power back soon.

YO, Yo BEV!! LOL, remember hollering that as kids calling on a friend to come out??
Wishing you a Happy New Year too. Sure hope you can get a chance to come say hi, miss ya and think of you often.

It was also nice to see Worms and Lith pop in...
Sorry to hear of your loss, Worms. Lost my mom to Cancer amongst other things.

Well, ive been typing forever, going to get something to eat as I think about who I've missed!
Know Barbara is on my mind.

So if you are traveling, Do Be extra careful. I'll be back again in a bit.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Barb is snug as a bug in a rug!!!!! It has snowed - about 4 inches - and now we are in a lull. The major part of the snow is to arrive tonight into tomorrow and they are talking 6-12 inches. It is that light fluffy stuff thank heaven....

Got the binding on my quilt sewn on and now I get to relax with the hand sewing. I really enjoy that.
Norm had to drive to Berlin in northern NH this morning. He is now on his way back and I'm very grateful for the cell phone calls he makes to me. I have a tendency to really worry when the weather is bad.

Off to make a cup of Timmies - be back later......

mulege, Mexico

I'm having a lazy day. Sorting seeds and watching TV as it's hard to walk. I let Max get under the covers New Year's Eve cause it was so cold. Forgot he was there and moved my feet and he went into attack mode and managed to bite both of my feet. One nasty hole in the middle of the bottom of my left heel makes it painful to walk. I have to be more careful as this is clearly a life-threatening thing for him and, having grown up as a street dog, he's not going to get over it. He's very friendly and affectionate when he's awake but has various "issues" from his difficult early years. He likes to stand on his back legs with his paws in my lap and get petted but sitting in my lap is very scary for him. We continue to adjust to each other and I'm glad he gets along with the other dogs and he loves to play with them.

I got a few pots of seeds planted yesterday. We have a large shelf unit that we have prepared to we can use it to start seeds. Finally, some organization. I have a huge seed collection and I can now put many of them in labeled pots and see what is still viable.

I'm going to lie down again. Pain is no darn fun.

hugs, katie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that Katie. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Take good care of those bites Katie. We need you on here and look forward to our posts.....
Sending prayers for a quick recovery.

Sleepless night, watching news
Hope you are all safe from the storm
Right in your neighborhood Barb, sure hope Norm gets to stay home today

Rita was flying home last night, hope she's not stuck in Chicago, know there was some delay last night

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Norm is home today - so far. The snow has just about ended and I'm sure the roads will be cleared as much as possible soon so he may need to go out. The problem here is the wind. The snow is light and fluffy and blows back in where the plows just went through!!!! So he is playing it by ear for a while.

Hope Rita gets in okay. I have a haircut appointment at 1:30 but I need to cancel it. I can't go out in temps below zero...

I started the hand sewing on the binding of my quilt last night. Did two threads worth and had to stop. The arthritis in my hands started to act up. So I'll just do one thread, rest the hand, do another until it is done. I have also started work on a BOM. I'll try for a picture later today.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, I thought you might like these.

http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/10/plates-for-your-table.html

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WHOA, nice site Karen, betcha Betty will love it .. I think the patterns are beautiful, NO WAY could I, or, would I even attempt anything like that ..

Remember a few days back I whined about the frigid temps and WISHED for SNOW? Well, we are about to have a 'snow EVENT' in this area of Ontario .. we sent Betty the cold, and we are now going to get lotsa snow along with less frigid temps (still - 21F)
The big Lakers (Steamships) that come to our shores are finding Lake Superior freezing up, first time in 25 years ! The season closes Jan. 7, it's thought some ships may be left behind .. quite the story here as these ships are from European countires, guess they fly the crews home once they get'em off the ship .. must listen more carefully.

Staying HOME today .. Gord is off to teach a class, but, I don't worry (much) about him, as he has 4 wheel drive ..

Take care all, and, stay warm !

Barb, glad you kept the hand stitching for today, now you can enjoy doing it at your leisure today. I must taw arch my stitching better, not so sure I do a good enough job, my goal for the next quilt. Hoping Norm gets to have a leisurely day, he can spend it reading newspaper.

Barb, lovely projects, you are encouraging me to yet add another project on my to do list.

Wasn't the greatest day yesterday, was hard seeing Jim losing ground so quickly.
What a facility, you feel as though you are in a top notch resort in the country..feeders at every window, great watching the birds

Sitting rooms for families, library, toy room for kids visiting, large common room with fireplace..omg they had a quilt hanging that took my breathe away, all in variety of reds and had trees that were embellished to look like garland, great way to use those stitches on your machine that are seldom used..Sharon will try to take photo's

Kitchen set up in duplicate, one side for staff and the other for families staying with their loved ones

You could see staff thinks highly of Sharon, they were waiting on her hand and foot.

I cooked up some food so she could warm it for mom and her..Jim hasn't eaten since day after Christmas.

All country furnishings, quilts on the beds..sooo homey..I am amazed

No wonder Sharon donates her time there.

After 1 1/2 feet of snow New Years eve day and frigid temps the sun has come out, beautiful wonderland view, lots of sparkle!

Why Rita's flight was diverted to Kitchener I have no idea, her vehicle is at Toronto airport..they lost her luggage which contained all the Christmas fabric for me, sigh, rest of her clothing I'd bring back with me in March when I pick up Darlene.

I've offered to do the 3 hr trip there, she's asleep so waiting to hear..

Was going to try and get a perm today but it can wait

Victoria Harbour, ON

You did indeed send me the cold "m"' think it's -27 without wind factor..it's the kind of day when you breathe in your nostrils stick..I have one of those deer Hyde dickies somewhere in the winter clothing, thinking of going to find it.

Yesterday we were talking about years ago when we would go to penetanguishene winterama how to watch the parade we'd climb 15 feet snow banks to get a better view, keep haven't had winters like that for decades..sure have it this year.

Likely those sailors would love to be flown home.

My maternal grandfather/grandmother and 2 aunts worked as cooks on the Lake freighters, they would winter dock in Port Colborne I believe it was..in fact my mom and dad, recently married had fpgrandparents look after me for 2 years while they sailed, no other work available, when they came to get me I would go into fits, grandma would get ill, grandpa would pine so there I stayed..remember for years dad would come to get me and before the day, weekend was out he would have to bring me back, breathing attacks.

Stay in and watch the snow fall

Been seeing lots of deer tracks in my garden this week, bad weather must be driving them in

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Another terrific technique, really want to try this one soon. Maybe can figure out a tree skirt with it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rgQd6asPQs

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Don't know how you all handle the cold temps and or snow! Please stay warm, and be careful if you have to go out! Hope Rita gets her luggage!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, I love the patterns your posting.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Me too Linda especially that Missouri Star Tutorial. Gotta try that one soon as I get back home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Got the sewing itch. Lol

I'm gong through my stash lookng for reds..now why did I not stock up on them

Have a tree skirt to do binding, might try and get it done so I'll have something to hand see as hospice tomorrow

Perm at 11am

Victoria Harbour, ON

Feels good having hair cut and curls even thought its a bit too curly but that is ok..was -29 when I came in..intent was to go grocery shopping but brrr decided against tit

Snow around wheel hubs so frozen that you could hardly turn wheels, know not good to wash vehicle in this weather but I stopped and did the 4 wheel wells..hope I didn't create a bigger problem.

Just called hospice, Kim is there with mom, Sharon gone home for a bit..Jim keeps pulling air tubes out of his nose, doesn't want them so while they were trying to put it back I thought it best to call later

What are you all up to?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, when my Dad first had his strokes, he was in the hospital and rehab for months, and they had to tie his hands to the railings of the beds. Even in his sleep he would reach up and pull air hoses and IV's out. They had no choice. It looks horrible, but maybe something to consider.
I am working on a cat quilt for one of my friends.

http://www.fonsandporter.com/articles/fat_cats_in_the_city_free_wall_quilt_pattern

Pretty easy pieces to do. I have all the cats cut out, just need the background pieces and borders.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Shoveling is the game, Marilynne is my name LoL
The snow EVENT is happening, and I am the shoveler until 9pm when Gord comes home from town .. I go out with my furry patrol about every 2 hours .. takes me half an hour to do the patio/sidewalk and, of course, dog paths ..
I have stopped looking at the radar .. nothing I can do about it anyway .. calling it an Alberta Clipper ...

Betty, I betcha your hair looks great, the first week is the worst .. I have decided to let my hair GROW a bit .. it's at my shoulder now .. and, I do have to fuss with it a bit, but, I like the longer locks (what there is of them )

Jim may be better with a face mask for oxygen .. our Hospice unit pretty much just removes the prongs if the patient becomes upset .. when he is settled and asleep they can put the O2 on for a bit ..
Not nice to have to joust with someone who doesn't want oxygen.

I am off for my next go at shoveling .. last year I sat in a wheelchair at the door and watched!
Lorna will be going out on her machine to plow a bit later ..
What a day for Gord to go to town, I worry about him on the roads coming home ..

Rita just got in, not impressed with -29 and says there are no words for the amount of snow we got.. Now remember "M" don't send snow my way, I've enough for us all..couple of booms this mornimg, wow thought maybe my roof was coming down, found out that when it's this cold, air/gases in the ground need to expand thus the kaboom. Watch yourself shovelling.

Rita is going to play grandma for the next few weeks, moving to Georgetown, about 1 1/2 hrs from here, likely come on weekends..I will be missing her, nice to have someone to gab with in the evenings.

She had some of the christmas fabric she and Darlene got me in her carry on, rest of it is in the bag travelling from airport to airport!

LindaKay, love the kittie project. What size will it be?

My SIL Kim just sent me poto's of the quilt I want to make, think I can do it without a pattern..
Sharon would also like to make one as well, so now I'm on the lookout for reds.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It will be a lap quilt. Hope they find her suitcase soon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes American airlines called to,say her bag was delivered in Toronto on original flight, figure that one out..1/2 my fabric was her her carry on and the rest in her bag so guess her bag is being delivered by courier tomorrow so I will have more too ohh and ahhh about.mmwhat I got tonight is different than I bought while in Buffalo.

It's the 2nd anniversary of Mike's passing today, Darlene was beside herself and called several times from ft. Myers, then mom called, was having a bad night,,me who hates the telephone but I managed to gab to both for as long as they needed me to listen

Now bedtime

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mom just called, neiighbor from the cottage called, hydro went off for a bit this mornimg, they went over to check mom's place, furnace didn't re ignite, pipe burst, water all over the place inside..

She tried to all my brother Bernie but no answer

Not sure how I cn help

Drats,drats and more drats

Somebody please post something nice that is happening in their lives, seems all I have is bad news

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi - hope everyone gets warm, well, and loved (oh wait....... you're all loved, by all of us!! duh.....).
Prayers are being said by us, for all in need, and we all need....

Well, my mom's not doing so well anymore. She's not eating properly, is on IV for her potassium, and oxygen now and again. Take it out for meals, then put her oxygen back in. She's bright eyed, co-operative, and does everything told to do, but she's weak. It's down to my 2 sisters to look after things at the hospital. They're hoping our brother does more too, and he's willing, but incompetent. He really has no idea what to do. He lived with mom so long, that I think he missed her getting this old.... you know what it's like when you see someone day by day.....
I emailed them and told my sisters that I would love to be there to assist, but obviously it won't happen.....

Bob & I need to get jobs - we have NO income because his unemployment insurance ran out now too.
Will have to apply to assistance to get help with our lot rental fee......
Got a lovely surprise tonight..... I belong to a Garden Committee for our community, and 4 people from the Committee made a dinner basket for us and brought it just about dinnertime. I was thinking about making soup for dinner, but instead got a BBQ chicken, 3 types of gourmet salads (cold, like potato, etc), a green salad, red wine, potato chips, and ciabatta bread.
It was so lovely - I broke down and cried at the door when one of them brought it to us, with a card, signed by the 4 in the committee who I told about my mom, this morning.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Sorry Betty - I was posting just as you were........ well wait a moment - I had something wonderful happen - my lovely surprise!! I have good friends, here and IRL....... I'm so blessed!!

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I am so sorry for all happening.......and to Susan and everyone sending thoughts and prayers.

I have two "nice' to share...maybe it will help a bit.

Carrie had ultrasound yesterday and is having a little boy. I am thrilled.

And Shannon, although transplanted 3 1/2 hours from here....got a job today. DOn't know what is truthfully going on, but it is a start for her.

I am just mentally and physically spent....but I have no right to complain with all you are going through on here!!!

Hugs to all,
Stay safe and warm

Debbie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

mental exhaustion and fatique is normal when you have a new baby coming, and not knowing what's going on with Shannon. Take it easy, and rest, girl!!
and....... if we didn't complain so much, you wouldn't be exhausted from listening to us lmao!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sending (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) and prayers for all.

My sister Kathy called and she is finally doing well with her stomach issues. No more getting sick!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Just got home from south Florida...what is normally a 6 1/2 hour drive took 10 hours today. Semi flipped on I-75 and we traveled exactly 10 miles in 2 hours!!! Exhausted, cold and sleepy. Will chat more tomorrow. Currently 28 here.
