Can anyone tell me if this is a good machine or not?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Well Walmart is good at returns so..... At this price it might be worth trying out. Their literature said the machine is imported but did not specify from where. I would have liked to hear it run so hear if it had a solid or rattley sound. To me poor machines sound like they are grinding flour when run.

Amazon has it for $229.99 I also saw it listed as for beginners.

Oh I did not see that. I will go back and do more reading.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Only way to know for sure is to give it a test drive. Bring it home and see if it will do what you want it for, if not take it back.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK I got your heat!! And you're getting my normal cold!
It's 60 this morning and drizzling. I bet it will rise to a hot 80 and I ain't complaining. Looks like only my part of NC is experiencing this strange warmth. So, we really can't depend on those meteorologists with their generalization.

That machine looks like a replica Featherweight, LK.. so cute!! Good price too.

I have a Singer Quantum, purchased 8 years ago LK. Like Karen said, you need to test drive it.
From my research, Singer was trying to improve its' quality image and I test drove the Quantum and fell in love with the ease of use.
Few years later, it gave me problems with the tension. In and out of the shop, frustrated, left it in a corner and that's why Kel up and bought that fateful Viking. Never get an Emerald, go higher if you want a Viking. You know the rest of the story.
Like any other brands, you take that chance. Especially when it's all computerized.
(Yes, now I have too many machines)

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

We are in a white out right now....yay

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

If you're happy Karen, then we're happy :D From far awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

that was a very small yay, if I could write it smaller I would. LOL

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

the pastor just sent me a load of hickory wood, because he knew I was lokking for some for the holidays. gotta smoke them butts and ribs

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Sunshine here, but cool. Rainbow in the sky, but we didn't get any of that rain.

Invited to 2 places for Thanksgiving, but DH isn't having some good days. Hope that changes as we need to get out among friends and family.

Thanks Jaye!!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving as well.

Sue,love the pics!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL Jaye, that looks like my Elna. I was actually wondering why I keep it around but I know now why.

Cool dreary day here today. Did manage to finish my grocery shopping and get my turkey. I don't know about the rest of you but I had a terrible time finding on about 20 lbs. If I had wanted a 10 lb. I could have had several choices but the larger ones were very few and far between.

The cool damp weather has caused my aches with Kim's knee that she banged up in the fall....well to the world of getting older my child! :-)

Pecan and pumpkin pies will be on our dessert menu Jaye.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Marion I knew there was a shortage of large fresh turkeys but did you check frozen ones? They were saying on the Chew to use two ten pound ones and it will cut your cooking time as well!!!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My DD grows her own, they are usually 35-36 lbs. We have to find a pan big enough and then hope it fits into the oven.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I had no idea there was a shortage of turkeys. Hope I can find one when I go shopping Tuesday.
Morning everyone. Still cool here this morning. 37 degrees.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning!
We are all going over to Sis Kathy's for Thanksgiving... ribs and smoked pork butt sounds yummy and I know Michael will be frying turkey. That man's an expert.

Turkeys are on sale at Food Lion here at 99 cents a pound. Impossible to find one more than 12 pounds Marion. I guess they're breeding them smaller to fit in a turkey fryer.
The bigger ones, I normally cut them in half, to shorten the cooking time. But with a small one, easy for me to handle and not too much leftovers.

Your DD's turkeys must be delcious, Karen. I've never seen a 30 pound turkey, you practically need an oversize oven if bigger than that!!!
I do hope that light dusting didn't turn into a ankle deep

Pegi, may Darwin feel up to mingling on Thanksgivng morning. I admire you for always trying to lift his spirits.

If you can't find any turkey, maybe you could get a duck LK?

It's 30s here and expecting more cold winds, yet sunny skies and a manageable 60s. But for tomorrow, we've been warned of a hard freeze. I know my cats will be sleeping all day!!

Marion, I do hope the QB won't be charged. The allegations sound fishy to me, why now?
He's a stellar QB and should be nominated for a Heismann.

Yay... our defense was spectacular last night. This young team finally got their act together and managed to keep Johnny Football in the pocket. When the kid runs, he's dangerous.
Sis Kathy, your favorite coach will be watching that game tape over and over to beat Texas!!

Soups, soups and more soups today.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Mornin'...sitting here enjoying a cup of peppermint creme coffee to try to get me in the mood for the holidays. Have to hurry and finish as I am still using Kim's computer.

Any type turkey, fresh or frozen, seem to be very limited here. I don't know if people bought them when the ad came out already or there just a more limited supply this year. Any way, there is one defrosting now and I did get a 22 lb one this year. Will share with the Junior Sprouls as they really love turkey.

We were supposed to get in the low 40s but I haven't checked to see if we did. I know when we went to bed it was warmer than we are supposed to get today. Already have a pot of veggie soup simmering on the stove.

Jaye, I honestly don't know what to expect with our quarter back. According to all the news articles in our paper, there was no surprise when the DNA matched as they had been together. The paper said others were there and they are taking DNA from some other players. It just seems odd that when he was a red shirted player...actions dropped. Now all of a sudden her family is pushing this. Willie Meggs, the States Attorney, is also a loose cannon and as Ross would say: "not the sharpest knife in the block". I, too, find it fishy that now he has made a name for himself on the field the family is pushing for actions.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh goodness. What news did I miss about football?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

FSU quarterback is accused of rape. It happened in Dec. 1012. Girl had supposed dropped charges and now family is asking him to be brought to justice......a year later. It has become a "he said, she said" at this point.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

we bought 2 turkeys at 69 cents a pound. they both were 14 pounds, can't get nothing bigger

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear hat Marion!

69 cents a pound is pretty good!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

one of my amarilys opened yesterday

Pretty Sis. Amaryllis are so easy to take care of, and yet I still manage to kill them! When will that smoke meat be ready?

Marion, you have a point there. I won't be surprised if the charges are dropped again and if that happened, some benefactors must have greased their palms. They know Jamieson is too valuable and FSU's backup QB is out for the year, right?
It's a shame I'm writing this, but I want FSU to kick the crap out of UF!!!
As for Willie Meggs, this must be an opportunity for him to get reelected!

More great games today.

FEAR THE TREE !!!! Stanford won over Cal. wow . Didn't get to see the game. I had a girl night out with my friend . This mama is happy.
got some excellant pizza at a place called Mellow Mushroom. Very good pizza.
Tim and the kids are down in the basement painting. I m pretending to do laundry upstairs
very pretty amaryillis

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

smoked butt and ribs are Friday, fried turkies Thursday, hot dogs wed., lasagna saturday

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Very lazy weekend at our house. I did manage to do a couple loads of laundry. DH spent most of the day in bed, of course watching football on TV. He isn't eating again, but managed to get some oatmeal down this afternoon. Can I throw in the towel now?? At least we had a sunny day, a little on the cool side unless you stood in the sun. Well, the dogs came in to tell me they are hungry so guess I'll at least get them fed.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

After I took a shower yesterday morning, I put on flannel pajamas for the first time this year. It felt so good I wore them all day. Had a quiet one. :) Then slept warm and snug. Reheated soup I made Saturday and to me soup always tastes better after sitting overnight. Delish, if I do say so myself. Hey, the Titans even won a game. Woohoo.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you had a relaxing day!
I agree with soups, they always taste better the next day!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

morning ladies

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Monrin' right back atcha Kathy. I agree, soup is always better the next day. I think we all might have had our soup pots on this weekend....we sure did.

Pegi, sending hugs and prayers for what you are dealing with at this time. Wish I could help you but alas it isn't to be no more than my friends could help me. Just know we are all here for you and if you want to chat....let me know.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Seems most one pot meals get better with a bit of mellowing.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Waving Hi!!! I'm happier today. DD Lisa has decided that she's not to grumpy for Thanksgiving after all. We are combining sources since she just decided last night, but she wants to have it at her house!! Yay! Less cleaning here!!! LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning, morning all my sistahs.

I'm glad that Oregon is out of the Rose Bowl. Sue, did you see the arrogant remarks by their superstar saying that it;s the BCS championship they're after and that the Rose Bowl isn't important? I hope their multimillionaire benefectors take note. Pissed off sports comentators for sure and their coach had to eat crow when they lost against unranked Arizona.
Go Stanford!

Pegi, when you think you're at the very end of the rope, you can call me too, 910 653 7080. Anytime. Just be warned, sometimes my cats press the mute button if I don't answer or they'd be playing with the phone.
I'm supposed to replace my lost cell phone, once I do that, all will have my number.
We are always here for you and it's too bad we are not living in the same area. God bless you Pegi. Really hope within a couple of days Darwin will be returning to feeling better.

Yes I so agree, soups and gumbos are always better left to develop their flavors after a day.

So, it's a great Sunday for you Carole, you had great soup, wore your favorite flannel pjs and the Titans won!
Wish I could say the same for me.. I had great soup too, that's where the similarity ends. Manning lost and in my 'grief' fell asleep in Kel's flannel shirt..
Who do you pick to win the Voice, by the way.

How is Kim doing, Marion? Hope her aches subside.

Karen, I know Thanksgiving means an overly LARGE table of great food!!! Besides turkey, would your DD be serving a roast?

Good that Lisa agreed to put up a joint Thanksgiving dinner. Hehehee.... must be your gentle persuasion, Cookie and your very cheerful disposition working on her!

It was supposed to freeze, according to yesterday's news, this morning, but YAY again, it's wrong. A manageable low 30s.
LK, don't tell me that your temps were lower! Really weird weather you're having in Tx. My extended Houstonian family went looking for snow!! They're right now in Wyoming!!

Think I'll just grill some all beef hot dogs for Kel today and I'll have some leftover soup!!
Have a great week sisters.

We go to daughters downstate and have our Thanksgiving on Sat. We can all get together then with no one have to run to another dinner. DD grows her own turkeys and they are usually over 35 lbs. We will head down on Fri. so she and hubby can do their stuffing thing and get it in the oven early. Only bummer...I have to shop on Wed. as we don't get S.S. til then. Thurs. I'll be fixing some of the food.

Turkey and all the rest is more than enough so we don't need a roast too. We save that for Christmas when we have a standing rib roast at other daughters house.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

That's so wise of your family to have that on a weekend. What will you be fixing, Karen?
Just yesterday afternoon, I was telling Kel of your family's traditional rib roast. He immediately suggest prime rib for Christmas instead of MY traditional goose. He doesn't care for goose.

Ex gloated that he had so many invites for Thursday and he regrets he won't be able to clone himself for more great meals!! That man!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Mmmmm I love goose, in fact we all do. BUT we also love the prime rib, it was my mom's tradition for New Years. Younger daughter who does Christmas, also makes a huge pan of lasagne along with the roast and it always gets eaten too. We are 20+ adults and many children so it takes a good bit of food. We always get containers too so everyone can take home left-overs.

I will be making Chestnuts wrapped in bacon, pate, and spinach veggie dip for appetizers. Mom's special recipe potatoes(takes 10 lbs. of potatoes as these are a huge fav.), noodles, and corn cassarole. Hubby does the stuffing.

We'll head down early Fri. so we can fix much of it ahead of time. Daughter has 2 stoves so that helps too.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodness that is a large family Karen.
Todd decided he wants ham for Thanksgiving. Easy to fix.
Jaye our temps have been stuck at 39 till today. It is 44 right now.
