Cody, will Alex be home with you for Thanksgiving?

Thank you LK for that encouraging words. I'm sure Murdock wouldn't want his wife all by herself on that day. Up to now, there are no invites by relatives nor her eldest son.

Don't forget sistahs, communal prayers tonight.
We should feel blessed to be able to pray for our sistahs and their families. That's a great honor when we're asked for prayers.
Thus said, Pegi, rest your heart, prayers will continue for Darwin and your brother.
If I may, please include a prayer for Sara, Sis Kathy's heart is breaking for her.

This was the wreath that Kel and I got for Murdock. We were fortunate to find it, he loved purple and Amazing Grace was his favorite song. And that was the only one standing in the florist shop. Then to make it special, an old country church heads the music sheet.
That church looks just like FIL's Gapway Church. God knows our hearts, I told Kel.
MIL was amazed to see it. The soloist sang Amazing Grace at the grave.

Our rain is finally coming, but for how long who knows. Marion, I'm glad this all these negative remarks from DH is part of the process. Our friends asked us to come for Thanksgiving. Her DH wants to cook a turkey (she is so lucky he likes to cook) and DH said he would like to go, but depends on how he feels. No definite plans can be made. So guess I will tell her we will come unless some unforseen things happens. This is the friend who he goes fishing with and I know he likes to visit him. I can always cook the turkey I have in the freezer later on. The thought of turkey and rice soup sounds so good to me. Have to look up my cranberry sauce recipe. Better start looking now as I manage to misplace it every year.

Off to bed, prayers for everyone. Good night.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning sistahs!
Already had been out of the doors this morning, early at 4, and it was bearable chilly.
It's gonna be another surprising 70s day. Whenever a certain temps is called for here, always add another 10 degrees to that. Don't know why, but Kel said that probably we're closer to the beach. Heck.. the beach is about a 40 minutes drive away!

Thank you Sue for not forgetting about us during your meditations, So sorry you're going through this without your family. Do you think you'll ever return to California?

That much time with Mama, you know Alex will certainly enjoy all the attention he'd be getting Cody.

Dearest Pegi, as Marion said it's part of the process. I recalled my Houstonian bff from a very sweet passive person turned into an aggressive biotch.. only I escaped her newly acquired sharp tongue. As for food, her DH and I daren't make requests, nothing she cooked was palatable. Her taste buds were gone.
I guess deadly chemical attacks on one's body can change you.
Darwin's lucky to have a fishing buddy that cares. Well you have that option now and when Thanksgiving day come around I hope he'd be well enough to get out of the house.
Rice soup?? What do you put in it besides rice?

Off to bed for me for me. It's been a long morning.. :D

Welcome home Marion!

good morning everyone
i hope you all slept well.
i put up some of the christmas lights and other things in Jessica's garden. Good thing as today is rain and then a cold snap will come in. I have a few more things i want to put in , hope the weather allows me at some point soon.
good day to everyone
Dr apt today for me

Good morning Sue!!!
Would love to see a pic of the garden when the lights are up and every thing done.I hope things go well at your appointment.

I need to wake alex up to get ready for school now.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Good morning all. I was so happy to see so many joined me in prayer last night.
My prayers continue today.....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. My prayers were said as well.
We are on the way home. About 4 hours or so.

Jaye,Alex is a mamas boy.He does love the attention that i give him.It will never change either.He will also come first in my heart.It melts my heart because he tells me alot through out the day that he loves me.We both tell each other that all through out the day that,because i want him to know he is very much loved.I want him to grow up to respect a woman.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

good morning, my prayers were said last nite also. I go to church on wed. nites.

Sue,i felt the same way back then.That you feel now,alone in your marriage.I was married to alex dad for 8 years.Through the whole marriage he put me down and didn't want to have anything to do with me.We never talked.All he wanted to do is lay on the couch and drink a beer.I was young and stupid for staying with him,because he never had a care in the world about me.I Don't know how long he was cheating on me,but when he left me.I come to find out that i was already carrying alex.I was 7 weeks for alone at the time and didn't know it.

Sue,when i found out that i was carrying alex i was the happiest person in the world,because the way i look at it is i have the best part of my ex and that is my son alex.That is the greatest gift of all gifts in the world.
Thats why i baby my son,because he knows he is loved by me his mom.

Anyone who has kids already has the best from that man and thats the kids!!!!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

It's always good to have many at one time praying for the same folks.
Barb, if God were to charge prayers, we'd be paupers!!

That's wonderful if you can continue going to church sis.

What a good attitude you have Cody. Just look at the precious gift you got even though the marriage was bad.

Your home will be so festive Sue. Gigi's spirit will be glowing around you.

Have a very safe drive home, LK.

WHen Pegi mentioned rice soup, it hit me what to do with the stock I made with the turkey carcass earlier this morning.
I'm making Turkey Rice Soup with lentils and carrots! Voila, that will be our meal for the day. I'll even throw in a grilled cheese sandwich for Kel to go with his soup!

Yesterday, I used the infrared oven for the first time to cook a turkey. Done in one and a half hour, but uneven browning. I know better next time.. rotate every 15 minutes :D
Here's the ugly turkey.

Thanks Jaye!!!!He is my Angel!!!!Even though their is bad marriages.Kids should be number one focus.Thats why my life is on hold.Alex is my life!!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Since you said that Cody, I have a cousin who just messaged me on Facebook that she'd be getting married again,
Her first husband died from cancer when their youngest of three children was 3 years old.
Since then, she never dated till now. And that's 25 years ago.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It did rain some last night, but none so far this morning. Dreary day, but that's a lot better than so hot you can hardly breath.

I've never made turkey rice soup, saw a recipe on the Internet and it sounded good. Now I have to try and find what site I found it on. I like a lot of veggies in soup, but DH complained one time that the chicken & rice soup I fixed him had veggies in it. He just wanted broth & rice. Hard to please this man, but if that goes along with all the chemicals in his body I guess I can go along with it. My friend understands all of this as she lost a daughter to cancer 13 years ago.

Well, see what damage I can do around here, but first have to see what DH will eat this morning.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

~~~ Waving at ya'll. I've been reading and sometimes even think I've posted (lol), but obviously haven't on this new thread. I'll be back to do so (she says once again) as soon as I can. Life's been verrrry busy. DH is better and that's a relief. But still a lot of work to do.
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Good luck Pegi!! I mean that. Some wives would just let their DHs take care of their own meals.. but understandably.. with what Darwin's facing, patience is demanded highly from you.
Makes me think of Carole here, having to nurse her husband, I hope he's easier to please.
The Chinese have been making rice soup, chook, or congee for centuries. Normally it's just rice cooked in broth, spiced with garlic and fresh ginger. Our condiments might be salted veges or hard boiled salted eggs or '100 year old' egg. I like salted fish.
By the way Barb, was Norm a finicky eater?
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Don't be a stranger Carole!! WE missed you!
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)
Norm is the easiest eater in the world. He will eat just about anything. We both LOVE veggies but we like our meats too. We try to have at least one if not two meatless meals each week.
Doesn't always work but we try. His problem is that he travels all day as a service technician and ends up eating junk food on the run. We have tried having him take his lunch each day. What happens then is that he eats it at 9:30 am and then gets junk food later anyway!!!! He is getting better about it though. Add to that the fact that he is diabetic and you can guess his issues. And then throw the cancer in as well with all those drugs etc. I think he is at the point where he thinks "Just let me eat what I feel like at the time! If I have a problem from it, I will deal with it." And sometimes that is the only way to go......
Wow!!!Jaye that was a long time.I was married for 3 years,i left him in 09.We didn't get alone.Right now my main focus is alex.
Hope everyone will have a very bless even today.Don't know when i will be back on.Alex will want on all attention.So good night to everyone!!!
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
You certainly has it made with Norm, Barb. Being on the road like that, he'd be tempted to junk. My ex had once been a long haul driver, and he'd gain pounds from junk. Even though I'd pack nutritious food, still he craves the salt and sugar from commercial products, to keep him focus on the road
Junk food is also Kel's weakness. He thinks I'd never find out, but I'll find the evidence in the back of his truck's seat!!
FIL was an easy eater too, just that his appetite wasn't as great. He'd demand everything, from Chinese food to a good hot dog with everything. But he'd only nibble and then push the plate away after a few bites.
Junk food? That's Kel's weakness. He thinks I'd never find out about his secret eating, but I'll find the evidence in the back of his truck's seat!!
Cody, enjoy your Thanksgiving!
My cousin bury herself in her job and raising the 3 kids, Moreover, being a very religous Muslim, she truly curbed any natural desires to look for a mate. Until she took a vacation to Europe with her sister.
Guess away from her grown kids and grandchildren, her sister may have convinced her that she can have her own life and God won't disapprove.
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
Morning ladies!
Coffee is ready. How about some toast with crisp bcon and eggs!
Happy Birthday to BJ! Hope you have great day!
Good morning LK.
That cake's enticing me to grab a slice. Happy Birthday BJ.
Thanks for breakfast, but I had one a couple hours ago. Grilled cheese sandwiches, and Kel made me eat them!
He was up first, and woke me up to ask whether I was hungry. Nice hint to let me know he was! Lol! Why not take advantage of his offer to cook breakfast.
Didn't realize that grilled cheese sandwich can be so good at five in the morning!
Warm today, another day of unpredictable summer. I'll share this warmth with my cold state sistahs.
What Christmas projects are my crafty sistahs doing?
I have some UFOs that needed my attention and can be turned into Christmas gifts. One of the UFOs is a crochet project from years of yore where the granny squares needed to be put together. Thought of using it for one of the swaps. Unfortunately, my wrist wouldn't co operate much. So, I'll pick it up again! Could also be the pink yarn that threw off my game!!
Then there's this purse that all I have to do is start its' lining...
When I bought the pattern at my fav. quilt shop, I was drawn to some fruit batiks, and I said to myself... Self.. you must get that pink print since so many ladies love pink. Just got to return to being neutral to pink!!
Yep..that pink print made me stop all progress!! Lolol!!!
So who won, sewing or crochet? I think it's easier if I just reacquant myself with the sewing machine!
Sew blindfold sew that that P won't hamper my determination!
BUT, in the meantime, I'll ask Kel to put out a few potted tropicals!! I know I'll have a good day, and I hope all my sistahs will too!!
going grocery shopping for thanksgiving. taking the children to the vet for he day
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Good luck in finding a job, Sue. Walmart happened to hire senior and challenged citizens for their door greeters here and in Louisiana.
There'a quadraplegic (sp) in one of the MB's stores whose enthusiasm in greeting truly beats all the welcomes that you ever had!
Their annual check ups Sis?? Fix me a crawfish casserole for Thanksgiving, please! Of course you'll have to eat that for me :(
Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)
Happy Birthday to the birthday girl ... I don't know who BJ is but the more wishes, the merrier - so I'll add mine. :)
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Carole, BJ (Brenda) is one of the 'originals' when this chat thread was formed. She's kind enough to host the second Sistahs Gathering at her beautiful home in Dallas.
I lost all the pictures taken when my old pc crashed.
(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)
Afternoon everyone. Well Jaye, you have given me my laugh for the day with the "P" problems. I have been trying to do some crocheting lately and so far so good. I usually take crochet with me with I go to my sister's house as I don't dare take my sewing machine. Nope, never!! Way to many curious cats and a couple with a spraying problem!!!
Glad you are able to sew...my Bernina stopped working and it is in the shop. Thank goodness my old 40+ yo Elna started and whizzes right along. I haven't used it in over 12 years but I set it up and it never missed a stitch. Now I know why I kept it.
Will do some grocery shopping later in the day.....atleast get my turkey. It will only be my son and his family plus the 2 of us this year. My DIL's dad and wife are doing something else. In fact, this will be the first Thanksgiving I have been home in the past 4 years but I would do it all over again for mom.
A rather grey dreary day here today but the leaves have changed color (as much as they do here) so it does make for a lovely view towards the lake. I noticed this morning there are more blue herons feeding along the banks. I love it when they are out and about...such pretty birds.
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)
It is only 41 here today. Jaye send some heat this way please?
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)
Only 41??? You got to be kidding me, LK! Not in Texas? Oh my, we're supposed to drop to the 50s later but it's still warm outside.
That should be Ohio weather LK.
Hey Marion, it will be bitter sweet for you this Thanksgiving, but you can give a new thanks to the Lord that your mum's in a much happier place. I sure would like to know what the desserts will be on that day!
Wonder what blue herons taste like.. don't tell me gamey!
What a surprise you have an Elna for a standby. My mother grew tired of me using her Viking, and I was 'persuaded' to buy one back in Singapore. I chose an Elna Lotus, it's truly a lightweight portable. But oh so efficient!
My standby now is an old mechanical Pfaff. Keeps chugging along through layers of denim too.
I wish I had packed that Elna in the moving crate, now. Look how cute it is.
i m going to try and learn to sew this winter. I have a brand new machine , never used :(
the woman who taught the learn to sew class died. and there are no new people to teach it.
i have some books . soooooooo wish me luck on that one LOL
you may all get tea towels and napkins for presents
Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)
Get out your book that came with your machine and just play. Go through page by page and practice it all. When you are comfortable with the machine, go to your closest fabric store and check into lessons. Once you make a couple items, you'll be on your way. You can learn a lot from books and of course there are all of us, ask away.
Pop over to the sewing & quilting forum, you'll find old friends and meet a few new ones too.
Listen to Karen, Sue. You're intelligent and will soon be quilting.
By the way, there are also instructional videos on Youtube on how to sew practically anything!
