New New-bee thread!! Come on in!!

HA! That's weird - I wrote out a GIANT post and it completely disappeared. And there was nothing inflammatory there. So it couldn't have been admin. And it really was not that giant. O well - just saying hello again - and Al - I am going to share some of your MW with the Monarch Watch program in Kansas but they need to know county of origin from donated species - could you let me know what county in NY you picked these lovelies from? :)

Amanda - You are not the only one that lost a long post. I gave out my making of chicken soup from scratch. I went to edit it, and it edited it out completely....I guess that this is off-topic.

Hornell is located in Steuben County, western NY about 70 miles south of Rochester and Lake Ontario. Somewhat southeast of Buffalo.

Evelyn - it is IMPOSSIBLE to believe that a subject could be off topic in the newbie thread. Considering where you and I have been, and which topics have been eliminated wholesale. Ha Ha hahhahaha.

It is nice to have some chatter on this thread. Where are all the newbies and how to we reach more of them?! I think there should be some kind of banner on the home page, or some welcome committee that reaches out based on information from Admin. Have we ever had such a thing? Could put more pressure to perform on our seed keepers, but I think this in an underutilzed resource, and it took me MONTHS or even years to find after I became a subscribing member.

I'm not sure what happened here, it used to be quite an active thread. We talked just about anything that came to mind, not just seeds and plants. Perhaps one problem is the holiday season and folks are tied up with other things to do. We're all kind of busy this time of the year.

Maybe we could contact the new subscribers by D-Mail to invite them to join our Newbie group for a "meet & greet" forum.

Does admin publish a list of new subscribers?

I get a list of new subscribers on my DG homepage every time I log in. It's on the right hand side towards the bottom.

O. I'll have to check that out. HA! Lest I volunteer to be the welcome wagon. Maybe it's something we should think about in terms of "duty". LK is SO good on threads like birthday threads and stuff. I'm about as a regular as a . . . grandfather clock? Need someone to wind me up now and then or sumptin.

But I think it's a good idea - once you subscribe there's really not much of a welcome wagon.

p.s. How do the seed keepers feel about this as an idea? When I joined and got my first envie I was delighted. You see where it has gotten me. ;)
