Looking into a standard poodle right now......litter coming the end of this month.....they are in CT so I'll be able to see them......

South Hamilton, MA

& you can see the parents?

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

If I ever got a poodle it would definitely be a standard poodle. Fewer health problems.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I think that's awesome Marilyn!!

South Hamilton, MA

I think also that they have a better disposition than the smaller sizes as people have not fussed with them as much.

Thomaston, CT

Lucy, the breeder only has the Mom....she's used the stud before.....The breeder's DH is a vet, so hopefully they know what they're doing.....The poodles in the photos looked like happy dogs....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

So important! We just saw the movie Darling Companion, about how a stray dog brings a family together. I thought it was sweet. Mom is Diane Keaton and dad is Kevin Kline.

South Hamilton, MA

So with luck you will have a great companion.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Will you groom the poodle yourself?

Thomaston, CT

Probably not, Memory....there's a groomer here in town....don't want the dog to look like a show dog, will keep her in a puppy cut.....

Thomaston, CT

MaggieMae has found a new home....I will miss her terribly...it's like losing Suey all over again.....

So glad for you and Maggie May, though it's clearly hard to say goodbye anyway.

Thomaston, CT

Very hard....I've never given up a dog before.....

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I can only imagine what its like.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

wait.... what happened? I definitely missed something. were you just fostering? dog sitting?

Thomaston, CT

Jen,I adopted a pointer mix from Arkansas....after 5 days, she began growling at everyone.....wouldn't let anyone in the house...thought I could deal with that as it was low-level aggression. However, my sister came to dinner, & the dog went ballistic.....snarling, baring her teeth, really nasty.....sent an email to my contact in Arkansas....same day the tornadoes hit! He asked that I keep her awhile longer, but the more I thought about it, the less I wanted to send her back there.....I secured a place for her in the same shelter where I adopted Suey...she's still there...I loved that dog, she was wonderful with me, but I couldn't have an aggressive dog near my grandkids.....now I'm looking at a black standard poodle puppy here in CT.....still waiting for the breeder to let me know if she's mine, or if the breeder is keeping her to show....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh yeah that's scary, you don't need that. We had adopted a Keeshond awhile ago and I was just walking thru the room and he jumped up and bit by hand...took him back immediately

Thomaston, CT

Whoa! Keeshounds are pretty dogs, remind me of the elkhound we had, but the hair is too much for me......That's one of the reasons I'm getting a poodle....no shedding....

Bringing my standard poodle pup, Nicki, home on Aug. 1st!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

yay!!!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

hurray. Is it ther breeder you were expecting or some other pup?

South Hamilton, MA

hooray ready to baby (puppy) proof the house?

Thomaston, CT

LOL...yes, the house is pretty puppy-proofed.....I have a large crate for her if I have to leave her for any length of time. Yes, this is the original breeder in eastern CT.

South Hamilton, MA

jumper 2's cat Salem used to chew electric cords. Hope the puppy will not think of it.

Thomaston, CT

Eek! No, that wouldn't be good......guess I'll have to take her with me when I leave the room!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Glad the breeder came through for you with the pup. It's nice to be able to raise a puppy even if they do have to be socialized.

South Hamilton, MA

They want to be socialized. ☺

Thomaston, CT

Nicki will be......I'll take her downtown....lots of folks like to stop & pet puppies!

Thomaston, CT

My nextdoor neighbors are English bulldog breeders.....they have a litter that is 5 weeks old & was out in the yard for the 1st time yesterday......I was holding & smooching them all..... so, so cute!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Congrats!! can't wait for pics.
Bulldog puppies are the cutest things ever!!

Thomaston, CT

Yes, they are Ronnie.....all of them are mostly tan with white markings....very pretty.

Thomaston, CT

Introducing Miss Nicki.....won't let me out of her sight right now, I didn't know an 8 week old poodle could sound like a stuck pig! When I'm with her, she's quiet!

I bet she follows you in a new place with no other dogs.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

very cute!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

What a really pretty and personable girl she is, too! Congratulations on the new family member. As you are surely aware, poodles are very smart, and very dignified creatures. She also appears to be quite an extrovert if her smirk is any indication.

Thomaston, CT

She responds to her name already... I'd say she's going to be a very smart girl.....my grandkids came to see her last night.....she growled at them... Guess she didn't know what kids were.....but by the time the kids went home, Nicki was friendly...& tired...

South Hamilton, MA

Well, she would sleep through the night. ☺

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Bet she will greet them warmly next time they come over.

Thomaston, CT

Took Nicki to the blueberry farm yesterday.....3 or 4 kids approached & petted her & she was fine! Trying to have her meet new people every day......she slept to 5:30 this morning.....a little better!....of course, she trying to chew everything!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm happy for Marilyn and Nicole.

Tonite DH and DS are taking Cliffie to the animal hospital for an MRI. While my two daughters and I were away last night he got into a bedroom and ate several of my daughter's swimsuits and tshirts. He has lost his vigor and can't keep water down. Vet said sometimes they can still extract the articles through the mouth without operating. This is the first time he couldn't cough up what he chewed. Poor lamb let them lead him to the car when he usually fights it. I can take care of myself at home but am currently not much help to them. It is a bummer that things happen whenever I do something to take care of myself (getting elective surgery) and I shudder to think of what happens at work while I am on medical leave also. It shouldn't be that way :(
