7/17 What Just Happened to the Page? Anybody Else Seeing It?

Terry are you saying hang on help is on the way. I also have to scroll back and forth if I want to read it all and see who posted. Or the choice is shrink dink letters that I can't read. I am using a desk top with a 22 inch monitor. The text is using about half the screen.

Ernie, you, too have your DG font set to 20 point. That is very large. Try reducing it and using your browser's zoom.

Last night my entire DG page contents came up shifted to the left side, the posts are now in a long skinny column and there is a large blank white space on the right side of the page.

The box on the left that contains the member name, date, etc. seems to have doubled in width with an excess of white space on the right of the box.

It's not us. The web developers need to retrace their steps and correct whatever was done that caused this.

Since I'm still having no luck with Screen Shots (I have the "Print Screen" key, but it doesn't seem work), I decided to take a couple of pictures of different DG pages with my camera.

The lighting probably wasn't good enough so the quality isn't great, but I thought it might be helpful since, apparently, not everyone is seeing the same thing on their screens (different browsers?).

Anyway, this is what I described in my first post.

Again, not great pictures so look at the shape of columns, etc, rather than the clarity.

nutsaboutnature — That's exactly what I began seeing last night.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Mine is much the same except the font on mine is much much smaller. Darn near tiny!

BTW- Don't know if it makes a difference…I'm on Mac, Safari.

I had to enlarge my font but only for the DG site because the green type is so difficult to read in the Subject column on the home page. I know that issue is on their "To Do" list but this latest layout mess is likely taking priority.

June_nmexico, you are correct - this is not a user-issue. It is something that was unintentional, and we're trying to figure out exactly what happened, and correct it. Also, I checked your DG font settings and you have yours set on 12, which is in the "average" size range (I have mine set the same).

Can you take a screenshot? I see your font is set on 13 (within DG). Unless you have a very small font set on your browser, or you've zoomed out, a 13-point font should not look "tiny"

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Terry, I have my basic font set at 12 for all sites. I've been using my scroll wheel to temporarily enlarge the font now just for DG when I go there, then reduce it back to 12 when I leave. When this issue is resolved I won't have to do that. It will get resolved! ;-)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Ahhh, I'm glad you mentioned the possibility that I was zoomed out. Apparently I have been, and being a 'newbie' to this computer, I guess that is something I hadn't thought of. A bit embarrassing actually…Can you sense me blushing!?!
I guess I can reset my font back down from the 13pt.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

The teachers also used to do that if you were left-handed (my Mom was a lefty). They'd also tie her right hand behind her back (and this was in public schools!). Boy, talk about abuse...but I digress...sorry!

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

Tied her right hand behind her back?

PFG,
Consider yourself fortunate. You can read the entire post without having to scroll left-right....

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Oops...Thanks, Seedfork, I meant her left hand.

Terry, how do put up with us? Sometimes we're like a bunch of little kids with short attention spans.

WE LOVE YOU, TERRY AND MELODY!

AND WE KNOW YA'LL ARE WORKING HARD TO FIX ALL THIS!

riceke, it should be set to whatever is optimal for your screen. Mine is 1386 x 768. The techs did tell me that anything below 1280 x 720 may cause you to have to scroll left-to-right. (As will having your font set to a very large size.)

Okay mines at 1280 x 960 and I'm seeing it okay. Thx.Terry

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I was just asking in case I needed to clear my cache and such. (That was such an easy "fix" last time!)

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Ok.

I just changed my screen resolution and, TAH DAH, I don't have to scroll LEFT-RIGHT anymore (at least it doesn't look like I have to on this page, lol!)

Text is still small, but I can do the increase text size thingy when I'm here.

HUGS!

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

Maybe it's just me, but I don't resent the narrow message space. I'm going to go out on a limb, and advocate for it. Newspapers put text in narrow columns because it easier to read that way.

The message source area is currently wider than it needs to be. Maybe we should fill it with really huge avatars. They could be animated GIFs, hopping all around. (grin) Just kidding.

And there is an unused light green margin to the left and a much wider margin to the right that currently seem to be just wasting computer screen area.

Maybe the forum should shrink a lot in size, so that the whole forum will fit on an iPhone or other smart phone. (grin) Semi kidding.

ZM

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Zen- it fit fine on the iPhone before all this... Just FYI...

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Actually, all of a sudden it doesn't fit anywhere. This is the latest screen shot. On this forum/thread I can see the whole post, but in others now I'm experiencing the cut-off that others have mentioned. And there's no way to scroll on the iPad, at least none I can find. I think this happened within the last few minutes?

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Sorry, too anxious-pic didn't load...

Back to normal here.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

pfg, is that still the case? We did implement a correction just now that should take care of the problems with the equal-size columns.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

It seems to not to be all the forums, strangely. But this thread is still not right

My columns are still not right, can't tell the change did anything on my screen!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! BIG OOPS!

Now the RIGHT side grey bar seems to be sitting on TOP of some of the post text...

UNDO the last thing ya'll did!

I PROMISE I won't complain about having to scroll left-right, again. Just don't hide the text...

Well it's like a game, half of the words on right end side missing, have to guess what dg friends are saying..I too am up for membership, hmmmm

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

This kind of exciting. It has changed for me, with a lot of wasted "white" space on the left of the message area. The message source area now seems more back to normal. The message text area is now wider. Not like a newspaper column, but not super wide either. Its different, but totally readable for me on Firefox.

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

If it was originally readable on an iPhone, the programmers should be sure that it remains readable on an iPhone. Like it or not, we seem to be in the middle of a Beta testing program.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I am only getting half a text also.....very nervewracking to be concerned about friends and not be able to find answers.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

This is what I'm getting on my screen now. (see pic)

The sides are a cream color, then as you continue scrolling down, it turns black.

Yes, it is odd. Perennials seems to be OK too, at least the couple of threads I looked at. But Northeast is bad, several threads...

If this is still the case, try clearing your cache. We have definitely uploaded changes, and while most users will not have to clear their cache, if yours doesn't look different, you may have to.

Bettypauze, it looks like you have your DG font set to 16 points. That can affect the size of the member profile information in the left-hand column. Try setting it to something smaller, around 12 points and then use your browser's zoom if you need to increase the overall text size.

As I've suggested to another member, if you are seeing those types of anomalies, I highly recommend you clear your cache. Most members will not have to, but if things look odd, that's usually a good place to start.

And no, we're not undoing the last thing we did - it actually did fix the problem of the text boxes being equal in size to the left-hand side profile column :-)

Joy, it may have something to do with the size of your font. Try adjusting it down, then using your browser if you need to zoom in.

But before you do that, the thread in question looks fine to me, except that the five images in several posts do not fit side-by-side; the fifth image has to drop to the second line. Please take a look at those specific posts and see what the thumbnails look like to you with your current settings.
