*Sweet Interruptions* Room 263

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

im fine now. thinking about going to west virginia

i did all the jam and jellies and discovered my lemon juice was expired by 3 months :( uhg that stupid small print . It won't make anyone sick per say , since there is so much sugar in them jams and jellies i make, can choke a horse .
i do taste a after taste though not fresh . not foul nor rotten, just an old taste . like an old lemon ?
so most will need to be consumed in 3 months of so. some are lower sugar then the peach and strawberry.
so disapointed

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sue, they should still be good!
Kathy what is in West Virginia?

Morning everyone!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

WARNING: READING THE DUTCH GARDENS 2013 FALL CATALOG WILL BE HAZARD TO YOUR CHECK BOOK

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Morning Ladies,

LOL Jaye, Sissy hates having her pix taken so I had to sneak a few......

Sissy with her Hubby Don and grandson Preston who is living with them

ROFL!! You got that right Sis!! We don't need any new catalogues.

Sue, the juice would be okay. As you'd said, the sugar will preserve it for a longer time!

Thanks Cindy. Now I am able to visualize Sissy each time you mention her. Handsome men she got.

One of those days for me. Just blah. So, for something different, I made a few calls to friends I haven't talked in ages... tried to persuade them to join DG since they love to garden. Ha! One said she can get all the info from Google and camaraderie from FB!! Oh well.

Now I'm heading towards the beach. Got more fabric to hoard. Better than being bored!!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

So many places here got rain, but only a few drops here. At least it helped in some of the wild fires. The fires were very close to where DH went fishing, he brought bad luck to that area.

Still too warm to get out and work in the yard, but I'm getting some red tomatoes. Looks like we may be having those BLT's this year. The sweet 100 tomatoes growing behind the garage are also ripening and they are going to be so many of them. Yum Yum, nothing like garden grown tomatoes.

Had to get a copy of son's birth certificate, we live so close to the register of voters building so I got some of much needed exercise yesterday. The cashier said it would be mailed in 2-3 weeks, but when I asked if I couldn't get it sooner he told me to come back in a couple days and I could get it. Put the last one in a safe place and never did find it. Decided to not drive myself crazy looking for it so had to fork over $23 for a new one. I hate to be responsible for important papers as I never can remember where I put things.

Holly Springs, NC(Zone 7b)

Pegi, you would think by now that every place in my house would be a safe place for something for as much stuff as I've lost in here!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Dear Pegi and Lanakila,
after months of searching for my citizenship papers and birth cert, just last week I found them in an old suitcase that I hardly use.
The strange thing is, I have this old leather briefcase that I kept all other important docs. and would be easy for me to grab and go, in case of emergency.. but not these papers!
Must be at that moment, my organization skill failed me, as usual.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you found them Jaye!

got 18 jars of strawberry jam made
blueberry is next tomorrow

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Copy of son's social security came today, that was pretty fast. Guys always tell me to put things up so we know where they are, well that just doesn't work for me. I'm still looking for my sunglasses (perscription ones) that I put somewhere and of course with all my clutter I just can't find them. I'm almost positive I put them in my safe place, wherever that is. I get so disgusted with myself because I am so careless with important things.

Jaye, I saw some Ensure-like drink at Costco for diabetics but all I can recall is it began with a G. I picked up vanilla Ensure for Darwin this trip to store.

Sue I don't know where you get all that energy for making jars of jam. Sounds like so much work to me, but bet the results are yummy.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

MADE BLUEBERRY JAM2 WEEKS AGO, WE ALL NO HOW THAT TURNED OUT. NEED TO MAKE GINGER SPICED PEAR PRESERVES

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Where do you all get your fruits for canning! Hope your not paying the stores high prices? Wish we had a farmers market here. Heck, wish we had fruit grown here. Early in the spring we get peaches that are grown in North and Eastern Texas, and we have watermelon that is grown south of us, but that is it!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

yep, from the store, or if mike is home we go to the produce warehouse.
got an appt. today with cardiologist.
gonna let him know I asked for him 3 times Saturday morning in the er.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hope you get some answers.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good luck at the cardiologist Sis.

Pegi, I can only find low sugar Atkins at WM. Costco would be at the beach and too inconvenient. Good to know that Darwin takes liquid nutrition supplement.
I think you and I need a log to remind us where things are!! Lol!

LK, if you're here, you can have all the blueberries you want!! I have one bush, that is very abundant. But I quit eating them as they spike my blood sugar.

Got to find out Sue's energy secret. Twins, garden and now jelly making..

Off to run errands, will be back and hoping that Cody dmail me her address!! Cody, I won't send anything ugly!!

Oh yeah.. Barb if you're lurking.. I dreamt of you last night. You looked so tired and just sat in a chair not saying a word. I can't get you to budge, but you kept nodding your head each time I asked you whether you're okay.
I do hope the move has been an easy one for you.

Holly Springs, NC(Zone 7b)

It's peach and blueberry time here in the Carolinas. There are fruit stands here and there, plus we have a small (~8 vendors) farmer's market on Saturdays in our town. LK, you tell me how you like 'em, and I'll can 'em for ya!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

How sweet Lanakila. Notice I didn't offer to can? I'm terrible at it, always having my church sister's help unless it's refrigerated jellies.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My Mom used to can everything from fruits, veggies, and even meats! That is something I never learned to do, other than my sweet hot pickles and jalapeno's!
Thanks for the offer Lanakila, I love canned peaches!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm doing just fine Jaye!!! I got the shot in my foot and that is on the mend and the sciatica is gone for now. I'm taking it very easy packing up what we want to move. Slow but sure. We are taking the whole month of August to move and then clean here as I never leave a place unless it is better than when I found it... Going to finally get my hair cut tomorrow after three+ months. It is driving me crazy as I always have short hair and it is way down below the collar now. Can't wait!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Me too Barb, once the hair can touch the back of my neck, off it goes.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It is another very warm day, you would think I would be used to it by now. NOPE, always complaining but it does no good. There was a large A/C unit built in by our front door but I never turn it on. Once in a great while DH will turn it on for a while. I have ceiling fan in living room and bedrooms and that's it. During the day it stays cool, people have come in and thought we have air on. Believe me, I will never be sorry I had double pane windows installed. I have 11 windows, some big and a couple small and glad we did it when we have some money in our pockets. A couple years ago we had an aluminum awing put over patio area and I think that helps a lot.

I really would like to go and work in the yard, but will wait a few more hours when it starts cooling off. Got enough work inside to keep me very busy, and as much as I hate house work I have to get something done.

DH hate me cancel his breathing test for today. Said he just wouldn't be able to do it, feeling bad. The last treatment really socked it to him and another one will be coming up soon. It is very hard living with a sick man!!!!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear he is not feeling well! Prayers going his way, that he is feeling better soon!

Holly Springs, NC(Zone 7b)

LK, sweet peaches, or pickled peaches, or both? :)

Exciting story, so sit back and enjoy the long-winded version:
My parents had me right after high school. They were unmarried, and of different races, so the whole thing went over like a lead balloon. They eventually got married, then divorced when I was 4. Mom remarried when I was six and when I was 8 my stepdad wanted to adopt me. My biological father traveled a great deal because he was in the military (stepdad was too), so he knew he couldn't be the involved parent that all children deserve. He agreed to the adoption. It was absolutely the best thing he could have ever personally done for me. It worked out so very well for all parties involved.

Following along so far?

He moved on, we moved on, and when I was 13 my mom and dad (not my father) had my sister. Even though she and I are just half-sisters, she's my sister, period. I've had her since day one and she had two moms. I left home when she was 4, so both of us were basically only children. We are very, very close.

I usually knew, generally, where my biological father was. It's not like we completely cut ties. Every couple of years there'd be a card, etc. When I was 15 he had a son. When I was 18, he had a daughter, Parker. I'm 44, she's 26.

Today I met Parker for the very first time! We've been friends on Facebook for a few years, so we were familiar with the goings on in each other's lives, but to finally meet face-to-face was really quite thrilling! I had met up with my father and his wife during an airport layover a few years ago. Parker couldn't wait to tease her brother that he's the only one who hasn't met me yet. Silly girl!

Love that story! So nice that you met up with her!

Never had pickled peaches, so a jar of each please?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I loved that story too. So glad you got to meet up with Parker.

Didn't get out in the back yard like I planned, but I think I will be able to pick at least one tomato. I did buy some bacon so almost ready for those BLT's. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. The sweet 100's are ripening too and there will be so many. Have to run an errand tomorrow, another walking for exercise, so get that done early before the heat hits. I do feel better when I walk, so hope I can get myself ready to walk a little each day. I do carry a cane most of the time, can't afford to fall.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

I love sweet 100's. they are thr best. keep a plant ina bucket next to my door

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lanakila, thanks for sharing with us your historical meeting with Parker.
I can imagine the thoughts going through your head.. finally.. being able to touch her, and looking for physical similarities. I see you both have the same nose and smile!
She's lovely just like you, and I know your brother would want to meet you.
Stories like this give me the warm fuzzies.

Thank God for FaceBook.

Yes, that's one reason I can't stay away from FB. For folks like me, transplanted half a world away, FB gives me easy access to the going ons of my overseas family.

Pegi, I'm sorry to read that Darwin's not up for his breathing test.
I can imagine your frustrations, you're a remarkable woman and a good nurse to him. We'll pray for you too, that the Lord gives you strength.

Sis, if not for my umbrella and two strangers, I would have fell stepping out of Dollar General. My legs were fine, left the cane in the truck, then they went limp on me. Two Mexicans helped me, one held the door open and the other grabbed my bags while I prop myself up with my unopened umbrella. It was raining hard too!!
Kel who was waiting in the truck, saw the struggle, drove up and helped me.
If not for the kindness of those Mexicans, I'd be on my behind! Never had 3 guys braving the rains for me!
Jokes aside.. so use your cane when you're by yourself walking, Sis.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

will do, and thanks for the advice. sara had to help me up today. I have been in a lot of pain since last nite, don't knoe why.
got my new dress shirt and shorts on with bama visor, and of course the blouse is baba. wait a sec will print a pic.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Jaye, sorry to hear about your legs giving out, but glad to hear you had generous men to help you out!
Kathy, sorry to hear your in pain too! Sending prayers for all.
I am in San Angelo, for a Dr. appointment, and will enjoy outback steakhouse tonight for dinner! I will be back home tomorrow.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

I got a lot of bad news at the dr. tell y'all about it when it finishes sinking in.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Autoimmune is complicated, but you can read some here...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Have fun LK!
Aww Sis... at least the doctors can help you with that. Jax is right, you should be drinking vodka!!
Kidding sis..my bff who's a nurse recommends a high dose of Vit. D. Said it's linked to autoimmune disease.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I am back home, and we had a great trip, really nice dinner at Outback Steakhouse, and a dip in the pool at the La Quinta Inn! Got up early, and headed back home!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

I love the outback

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I do too, I had the 8 ounce rib eye, with grilled mixed veggies, and a bowl of the french onion soup! I was stuffed! Oh I had 2 margarita's too! ^_^

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Now that sounds great Linda Kay. I would love to go there and have one of their onions!! I just love them.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

I like their filet and garlic taters
