Of course to the last ,(and yes I am kinda going again lol) I remember seeing the Walgreens &Co logo during the 1960's But ,,, it was used mostly in the Midwest and that was a long time from 1945..the History document people of Walgreens say it wasn't used until the 1980's .
Something off there , anyway .. but then again this is the web , isn't it ???
The road is also wider in the first , with two sets of rails .. One set of rails in second photo on narrower street ..
What I can't figure out is why the first photo I believe to be the real , looks more like downtown Chicago than the East coast from that era ,,than the second I believe to be the over-imposed fake ...lol
Okay finally Conclusion The second photo is the fake , probably taken later in Chicago , the Walmart &Co logo imposed over the original company Store Logo from Springfield ( the latter being Walgreens Drugs)
Obvious something is wrong about the left view of the second photo as you look at it .. Okay that's all I'm out of here .. good grief .. took a while to let go of this . my .oh .my no obsessive disorder here , huh , who me ???

NIGHT OWLS ONLY - OPEN 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. EST
I agree with juhur7. Even though the second includes Chemical Bank & Trust I agree the second one is staged.
Good morning to all. I am out the door to work....
I read an article about the photo, very interesting. Some days I learn more when I should be sleeping!

Good morning friends.
this discussion is very interesting.
Actually both photos were taken at almost the exact same instant at the exact same location in Times Square.
The photo on the left was taken by photographer Alfred Eisensteadt on August 14, 1945.
http://life.time.com/history/v-j-day-kiss-in-times-square-and-other-celebrations-august-14-1945/?iid=lf%7Cmostpop#2
Eisenstein had the image copyrighted and carefully controlled its distribution.
The photo n the right was taken by Victor Jorgensen, a former Navy photo journalist whose photograph is from a different angle and in a less dramatic exposure (contast the nice composition with the full length of Times square laid out behind the pair in the photo taken by Eisenstaedt).
Eisenstaedt' s photograph, V–J day in Times Square was published in Life.
The photo taken by Jorgensen was published in the New York Times the day after the Image was captured. Jorgensen's photograph, taken while he was on duty, is retained in the national archives.
Arguemenitive The two sets of rails , barely visible second set in first photo makes that unlikely .. sorry with respectful objection , I have to argue , counselor
Okay they are there in the second , had to put my glasses on , but I am still suspicious of the second and the double sign

Cville; Enjoyed the article for today ..

Thank you, ju. The photos didn't exactly end up formatted the way they were intended to be (table is too large) but that happens. :)
After reading the link Counselor Amanda supplied and reading Wikipedia Judge Judy rules in Amanda's favor . But a great defense ju!
Lots to do before I go to work.......it is going to be hot so need to water flowers and tomatoes. Have a turkey breast in the crockpot for supper. Happy, happy, happy.
Have a great day!
My mat by the garage door.
Well here I sit, couldn't make it back the other night, been soaping too much lately.
Here are a few of the practice soaps, the form is just a silicone loaf mold. The red/black/yellow colored was what I was making the other night when I first posted.
So it has been a long day, went up to Brooksville, FL to check out a new place to live. I've not been able to find a job in 1 1/2 years, so we have to move to something way less expensive.
So we are going from a 3b/2ba/pool 1700 sf house to a 3b/2ba 1300 sf mobile home. It is 100 miles north of us and when the lady said they do get frost there, I wanted to run to the KEYS, I don't want to move back north in the cold and snow, but FROST in FL, someone wake me from this nightmare.
the mobile home has vaulted ceiling, which works wonderful for my DH as he is 6'7" although now a days he says he is 6'6" due to shrinking...LOL
OK going to bed now after spending 3 hours looking for jobs in the new county.
Jan
Meadow - your soaps look great.
Burt's Bees started here in NC I believe. And we have a local business now Moondance. You might want to look at their site - marketing?? It is so hard now with the job market as it is especially in Fla., maybe with the right marketing your soaps will be enough income so you don't need to look elsewhere.
It sounds like you are disappointed with the move etc., but maybe you will like the brisk and bracing mornings with a little chill (and a cup of hot chocolate) and it isn't all year - just the short winters. . Northern fla (to me) is so much nicer than the middle and southern with no seasonal change that is meaningful and the crowds. And....you have LESS space to CLEAN which is great for when you find that job. Great luck in your new community. Not being a Pollyanna but usually when I dread something in retrospect I can see also the good that has come from the new experience.
I missed the photo conversation. Look at the nurses arm in the 2nd photo ....it's dropped. That must have been some kiss and swooooon! The second photo was clearly the later one. . Even the lady with the long pony tail has traveled a distance in the second photo.likely oblivious to the momentous occasion happening right behind her. Just think, a fraction of a second..if not for a hesitation leaving the house or the job.. ..pausing to look at that great hat displayed in the shop window...a red light delaying the bus..or train... we all might be looking at a swooning ponytail. Ah fickle fate!
Random thoughts:
Do you folks like mushrooms? I love the things. But at 7am...the fragrance of frying mushrooms ain't so good. Sauté sweet onions, mushrooms, sweet red pepper, and a tiny tiny bit of minced fresh garlic, dill and a weeeeee pinch of celery seed-- heaven!! A 1/10th splash of dark chocolate balsamic makes it a wonderful spread on an Italian bread slice or a nice warm French baguette. This morning I had the baguette. It was so good. If I knew how to make Ju's musical notes - I'd be singing Oh Happy Days!
Question. Would you clean, scrub, and go nuts for a potential contractor? We are needing work in the bathroom..... Seeking estimates....I just can't find it in me to let anyone over unless I've made it spic and span. I know these guys and the tradesmen they bring could give a shi_! But........... I just feel a cleaning binge coming on..... Oh no!
Well.. I am heading off to count fan revolutions. ..whir...whir...whir...
lol. I'm the same way, I clean before someone comes to do work.
Lovely soap, Jan. We've lived in a mobile before and, frankly, I liked it. It somehow suited my sense of space (difficult to explain). Every sq ft is utilized with efficiency. I'm not all that efficient these days though. lol.
I slept in till 3. Yay me.
Ya'll have a good Friday.
It is 5:04 here in NY as I type. The hired guy just came, so I suppose it is back to the salt mines for me. He's late, he's usually here before 4:30. Good thing the milkman doesn't come this morning........he's usually here a snitch after 7.
Been sleeping kinda crappy, still. And the last 2 mornings woke up with a headache. Oh, well, that is why God invented Advil. :>)
Oh boy lots to think about tonight/this morning.
Meadowyk, you are not alone in the frustration/job department. I just read an article discussing the numbers which say though the unemployment rate has dropped it does not necessarily point to improving economy. More people are working but for less money and fewer hours as employers try to cut cost by hiring part time workers. It spoke to people who have been out of work for a long time but have simply given up and dropped off the rolls. In part, that's my situation, though the fact is that I would have to move at least 100 miles in any direction to get the kind of job I am looking for. I have done the commute 3-5 days a week in part/full time jobs while I finish a master's degree. Oh! Driving 150+/miles a day does suck the life out of you.
I think it's great that you are moving ahead, making active choices to improve your situation by downsizing. Frost, well ... I hear ya. I don t have anything encouraging to say about THAT. Us sleep talkers will be here to listen if nothing else. Rosie does make some good points. I was surprised to meet so many people from Florida when I moved here saying they missed the seasonal changes. Me, I prefer cool to hot hot but then again I'm half Yankee.
Rosie, you talking about food made my stomach start to growl. Haha. I do love mushrooms AND we drink vinegar out of a bottle here straight. Gah!!! Chocolate vinegar you say?! I would have died and gone to heaven. Two great tastes rolled in to one!!!! "You got vinegar in my chocolate." "You got chocolate in my vinegar." I am about to start drooling. :D
So TH smell of cooked mushrooms is bad in th morning? Or just something else you can't do while your DH sleeps and you count rotations of the fan blade? Mmmmm. A just sound yummy any time of day.
About TH clean thing, I would do a regular cleaning in any rooms, but a bathroom more so I think. I know people who clean for the cleaning lady. As if . ..
Whew. I think I am sleepy so I'm going to put this thing down. I enjoyed learning more about "th kiss" images. They really are so very different, but yet also amazingly the same. Been wondering what night owls should b talking about besides fan blades. No real theme here, but that's always been interesting g to me. Analyzing images.
The historian and author David McCullough was a guest lecturer at Cornell in my senior year an I was fortunate to get into the course. Naturally we read all of his giant books in print at TH time, but the final project was one of the most enjoyable, innovative, provocative assignment I'd ever had.
Each student (and there were many!) received a photograph which had been culled from magazines, texts, wherever. Each student was given no information about th image but asked only to interpret the photograph. Course there was a word/page minimum. That wa before TH dawn of easy internet access. What fun! And such an excellent learning opportunity. I don't know how I determined that TH black and whit image of a round faced man was actually Joseph Nye Welch, special prosecutor of Joseph McCarthy, communist witch-Hunter in the 50s. I was even more fascinated when I got out of law school and went to work in th same building in Boston which housed the city's largest law firm and TH firm where Welch was employed so many years before.
Jogging my memory and stomach still growling. It might just be time to make that pot of coffee. Have a good day everybody. See you tmrrw.
Cross post Carole and Anna. :)
Congratulations and condolences both on your sleep situations. Stay outta trouble today if you can.
(zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) ah , (sigh) A nice quiet place .. to relax and snooze .....
Every body left me and went partying .... TGIF -OMGSM ..LOL
Morning. Storms rolling through. I've cracked the window to listen ... luv the sound of the rain and thunder. One cat went to the basement. One cat went outside and probably wishes he hadn't. One cat just lollygagging around here. Noises don't bother her.
I've already made coffee and enjoying a cup along with the rain and thunder.
Back later.
I will ding in ,, at the five minutes to go bell . cat got me up to be fed , Save me a cup of coffee ,, well drink one for for me , and good morning ,,
Enjoy the rain , I would ..
Ack ... why is it gnats like coffee? I'm sure there's a logical explanation but I've lost my brain and can't locate the reason. Conjecture is out of the question.
I'm glad your drinking the (knat) coffee , I didn't know I was suppose to order hold the knats
At C_ville's kichen and coffee parlor /.. lol and; Not really about your drinking the knats
or me being a knat in the morning either . lol
We get those here also . knats , fruit flies , you name the "bug" we have it ,
Although were still saving for the spare Volkswagon ,,,hee hee
Well I'm checking in on you other night owls. I'm up this late as I just finished typing out my 4 questionnaire for my unemployment benefits. I took a job and lasted 8 days until I found out a patient had died in the office, they were now being sued by the patients husband, and two doctors and one phlebotomist were named in it, the main doctor just had the suspension of his license lifted, issues with billing to Medicare. And Unemployment doesn't understand why I quit.
I haven't found any leads on employment for the new area we are moving to, but really I would rather wait till I'm in the area, that way if someone say they want me to start ASAP I will be able to, instead of telling them well it will be such and such time moving, getting there...etc, etc
Thank you for the comments on my soaping obsession....
Well I guess I do need to force myself to bed even though I'm not a bit tired.
Have a wonderful owl night yall.
Getting sleepy and trying to watch "Zero Dark Thirty." Not following very well. The sound on my TV is kind of muddy a lot of the time.
My dog Max bit the back of my right heel a week ago and it is still not healed and is sore. We are having our hottest and most humid weather and I have arthritis which is painful in my legs and now more in my hands. Not what a depressed person needs. However, Tony came to work this morning as he does six mornings a week and fixed the wringer on the washer; yesterday he fixed the pull thing that makes the agitator work. We also went to town in his truck and got groceries, including a gallon of fresh orange juice.
I misplaced my good sewing scissors about five days ago. Also my beeswax. Very frustrating as I knew right where I'd had both of them and now they are both gone so I'm convinced I have Altzheimers even though I did find another pair of scissors which i can use. It's just one of those weeks.
On a more cheerful note - I met Joseph Welch in about l960. He's the man who said to Roy Cohn (Joe McCarthy's right hand man), "Have you no shame, sir, have you no sense of decency?" A turning point in our history, I think. He later became a judge and then played the judge in the movie "Anatomy of a Murder" which was directed by Otto Premminger who was one of the Hollywood people blacklisted by McCarthy. I was able to attend the premier of the movie and ended up in an elevator with Judge Welch. I introduced myself to him and shook his hand. He was a hero; one of those who helped stop McCarthy and McCarthyism.
Time to get back to the movie.
hugs, katie
Oh snap, I understand why you quit, meadow. Long ago I was a clinical medical assistant and phlebotomy was part of my job. I was pretty good at it if I do say so myself ... hardly ever missed a vein.
Gee, katie, I hope you're treating that bite. Don't you hate it when your "rememberer" breaks? So frustrating.
'Ol' Stinky' is blooming again. I've been waiting impatiently for it. It has been raining but that's okay, her long awaited entrance is always dramatic.
Cheerio, girls and boys!
Ahoy there ! Matey !!! , Starfish of the sea "eh wot" !
MAKING enemies here ; My Grandparents and family were members of the CWP . until at least the 1960's ..That's right !!! I'm decended from a bunch of ""Commies"" lol , Not as funny as it might be ...
I am still wondering , wondering about what ? exactly ....
I think the Mc Carthy era came from hard times , and a lot of arguments that will never be understood ,
It all went to ""high up"" from common necessity ,, definitely was overplayed by political power ""Hungers""(Mongers).
Sometime and Good Morning ...
Good morning! I've had some trouble befall me, you see . . . I've been sleeping nights. :D
Katie, that's a neat story. I didn't know that much more about Mr. Welch. I focused on the hearings and yes, that famous statement.
Ju, I don't think anyone here is surprised by your admission/affiliations. Not me anyway, hardly something to hold against someone in this day and age. Doubt that Russia would give you amnesty or anything if you asked. :p
A peculiar quirk about this house: the wet basement and sump pump that has been running most of the night. We must have had another big rain while I slept. Will have to check the radar after some zoo chores, particularly for the dog whose kidney emergency has abated. Sort of just running blind now, hoping that I am doing the right things. Her behavior is the key, and she seems well for the very most parts.
Have a great day!
See you tomorrow.
Well, it's only 5:30 here but time for breakfast ...
http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/staffpicks/media/Animated_GIFs/double_time.gif.html
Oh Carole, that was sort of gross. :P
The day was a little of this and that - rain and sun - weeds and flowers - now, computers, actually three computers and two gadgets, trying to synchronize them all together online somehow, it's amazing, it's maddening.
I'm also backing up or copying files from a machine that is supposed to be shipped for warranty repairs. I always purchase the Cadillac insurance policy on electronics. well, almost always. These days you pay as much for a case for your gadget so you can run a Mac truck over it and it will be okay. We bought something called an Otter Box for Court's ipad. I felt chagrined because I purchased the insurance policy when I bought the gadget, but I know he will never need it.
August is usually the best show-stopping-est time in my garden. I hafta say this year I'm sort of disappointed. Of course, it's all beat up from the weather and things that needed heat and sun to thrive did not. But what's up with the Jerusalem Artichoke?! That's not okay. It has to be 10' tall. Eeek!
Court and I agreed to go out there and pull more weeds tomorrow. I've been moving around some volunteers to fill in some blank spaces. Of course, I have had plants blooming all season long, frankly since january. I guess that's how it's supposed to be, I guess things are so wild these days I might be longing for a little more order. :D
Will let you know how tomorrow goes. Might catch you later this morning with a new riddle or mind teaser.
A.
Much of the anti-communist stuff from McCarthy and Hoover was to get publicity and money. Hoover was allied with a lot of the Mafia and did not want to make waves with them; in fact he repeatedly stated that there was no organized crime in America. The communist scare was mostly a red herring. A shameful part of our history. Many lives were damaged or destroyed.
I'm hoping to get some sleep and be able to work with Tony tomorrow. He starts work at 7am and if I haven't slept well I often barely see him before he leaves at 11. There is a lot of work to do but this is not the weather in which to push. I reminded him Saturday that he can leave early if the heat is really getting to him. Tomorrow we can maybe get shade cloth up over part of the patio so I can do some craft work there. Might also be a good time to walk around and admire all we have accomplished. I have a schotia tree which is about thirty feet tall; I grew it from a seed. I also planted it well away from the house and it is now getting big enough that some of the branches are almost starting to shade the house roof. One of those things that will be great for Tony's grandchildren if they choose to live here some day. Meanwhile I have a second schotia tree to the west of the house and the "old" tree is producing a bunch of seeds.
Not much blooming here but pole bean plants are growing and so are morning glories. I think it's too hot for them to bloom but they are looking healthy.
The dogs and I are glad to take it easy. It is quiet and peaceful here and the weather is beautiful - what my mother once called our "beautiful blue weather." It's hot and humid but gorgeous. Between the Sea of Cortez almost at my feet, the River Mulege running into it and the blue skies there is much to be grateful for.
I'm dealing with a fair amount of physical pain but when I remember the years of deep depression which I had I get a comfortable chair and a good mystery and thank God for the life I have now.
hugs, katie
I will be going out to the bovines soon, the hired guy is putting them in as I type.
Slept pretty decent again last night, but woke up with the usual creaky back so 2 Advil were taken. It's the bed; hopefully when I get back home and can get back in my "zero gravity" setting on my comfy bed, it will be better.
Going to do more baking/dough mixing today, but it will involve a trip to the store AGAIN.......dumbass here forgot to get eggs. And it looks like the 5 pounds of butter i bought on Saturday won't go very far, as I have already used up 2 of those pounds.
Finish up my warmed-over leftover tea from last night and off I go, not into the wild blue yonder, but the dark skies of New York at this time of the morning.
Katie - you make me want some beautiful blue weather. :)
It's been raining here for days. Kind of a common theme here in NC this year. Many of my plants are rotting at the base or turning yellow. I lost my hollyhocks to rust earlier in the year. We did have some nice mild weather. Can't believe I'm still thinking of starting seeds at this point in the season. If I had any sense perhaps I'd see that we'll have snow in October at this rate instead of my usual delightful extended growing season.
Hey, Anna - whatcha doin' with all that butter?!?!?!? :D
I am a baker, but learning to be more of a cook these days. It's not that I can't, it's just with my career I was never home to cook. I joked that I wouldn't date a man if he couldn't cook for me. Just so. And my mother and grandmother were excellent cooks. Pity, all those delightful Hungarian dishes that no one makes anymore. My nana/old babysitter taught me to bake when I was at her house. Apple pie and cookies and cakes. Everything a little girl should be learning while away from her four big mean brothers. ha.
Long day here, can't say why I'm up, I just am. Still trying to back up a computer that needs to be shipped for repairs.
Hoping to register for fall semester this week at NCSU to continue work on my master's degree in natural resource management. Will keep you posted. I don't need to take anymore coursework but need to remain registered while I'm doing my project to have access to all the rights, privileges and honors pertaining thereto. YAWN.
Awright friends. Might have to shuffle off.
Who's up?
A.
I am baking for my friend Patty while I am here in NY milking her bovines. I have 4 days here yet, so I can mix up quite a bit more stuff.
Can't get to sleep tonite....heard this morning that Cece Coogan from our "Coffee and....." thread passed away early this morning. We are all hoping it is a bad dream and we will see a post from her tomorrow, but we know we won't. *sigh*
I now have a kitty reclining on my feet here in bed, and he is purring up a storm.
Cripes, 4:30 is gonna come early. Pfffftttt.....
Oh no. :/
I had no idea about Cece. I mean I knew she was undergoing treatment but I didn't realize it could be so swift. She hardly had a chance. So sorry. Thank you for the news. :/
I am up late again this time looking for funding/grants for a couple of projects I'm working on. Not very exciting, I can tell you.
Might give it up and see if I can get some shut eye.
Who else is up?
Her daughter was on a thread I frequent talking about the treatment and the illness , next morning it was all over ,, Very sad ...
While I only threaded with her a very few times I enjoyed the company and a few of her articles here also .
Delightful company , a memory will be kept ,, always disheartening to hear one so many loved and cared for has passed or crossed over ,,
May prayers and solace be with her family ..
And she was only 57 or 58.........ok, I'm over the time limit........ban me, I guess.
Knock , Knock ,,) Oh well , I guess nobodies home .. ( Morning after ? cause is Hump Day)??
Been busy chasing the blue moon.
Would that be Green Cheese Moon's cousin ,? right? .. I believe I have seen them all together before
But I'm really not sure ..
Up at 4:30.........for the day, mind you, so I will make a quick post. That is, if I'm not excommunicated for my "after hours post" yesterday. :>)
One of the hired guys just wandered in about 10 minutes ago, so no need for me to go out for a few yet.......they need to get cows in, etc, etc, etc........
I am going to wrap that pan of brownies I made last night and put them in the freezer. Let's see, what can I make today???? I looked up a recipe for a chocolate pound cake last night; found one that sounds really yummy so I will dig around in her pantry and see if I can find some cocoa. Another cream cheese # cake is on tap too, plus another batch of cinnamon rolls and some butterscotch brownies. I have 3 days here yet, so I don't need to do it ALL today.
The SU and I took a drive up to Lake Oneida yesterday and just sat for an hour looking at the water. The SU and I seem to like water therapy like that. When we are in Mexico, being horizontal on the chaise lounge on the beach, listening to the waves.........ahhhhh.......Nirvana.
There is a place called Pizza Pub in Hamilton that we need to patronize before we leave here. I think tonight will be the night.
I was just nodding off to sleep and my phone rings its text message ring. It was quarter to 11......it's our oldest DS........I think he forgot about the 1 hour ahead time for me here than what he has there. LOL I figured I would roll around for an hour after that, but I didn't. Yay!
OMG! wat a grand idea! HELLO OUT THERE!!!!! I jist found this thread an am amazed that there really is peoples still woke at this hour! did my usual, went to sleep around 9p and woke between 1 an 2. cant go back to sleep, so i on computer, or doing QUIET housechores til 7a, when daycare kids come in.
Hi jax! Glad you found us. Hope you come back next time you wake at 1 or 2 a.m.
Anna, you were well with time in your zone so it's all good. Hee.
Ju, just lost a nice story/post that started with my dinner last evening I prepared with blue cheese and was ending with descriptions of some wonderful experiences I had in this building at CU.
Another day, perhaps!
Have a great day. :)
P hew! The lack of.sleep is catching up with me!
I will likely check in later in the morning.
Those old Cathedral Buildings are Something !!! Most of them are Old Courthouses disappearing rapidly to today's codes and standards , I really enjoyed them .. and still do , the few I get to see ..
Get some sleep , we'll still be here .. I think? As though I ever was or do ... he he ...
