I am up with the dog again. I have to say I'm confused and confounded by this kidney thing. Now and then she seems so alive, so normal and happy. And then like tonight, sick tummy, walking weakly, other symptoms. This has caught me unawares.

So you know, I am no a stranger to ailing critters and have always been an excellent nursemaid. I have successfully amputated a cricket 's leg, have had a goldfish with cancer operated on to remove a tumor (the fish is now famous as the first fish ever to have cancerous tumor removed by laser surgery), have nursed fledgling birds and orphaned possums.

Ack.

Not tired, but hungry. Might be back to discuss the socio-economic status of the former Baltic states.

I'm drinking coffee already and here to discuss Steamboat Navigation on the Magdalena River. A professor of Latin American history I had wrote his doctoral dissertation on that subject. A real snoozer.

Amanda I think it is about 14 threads I usually watch . I keep up.. some are of interest ...others regional folks post on , That tells me about about weather coming and going and bugs and ills all kinds of regular things ..
All my feverfew seedlings died so I bought some seed ,, A traitor here ...lol

Most of the family is on vacation , nobody to bounce me out of bed and so now I can't sleep anyway , go figure ! huh?

Amanda, Ralphie has a big inspection tomorrow. This is the only one he could fail and loose his job over. Scary huh... Anyway he is feeling pretty confident about it. He has to scrub the store down from ceilings tofloor, paint the walls, ceiling, and even the parking lot stripes. He has to do this every year!! But if he gets a gold star it is a $5000.00 bonus. If he gets a silver star he gets to keep his job. Anything else is bad, bad, bad....

Oh jeez Elfie. Fingers crossed, going for the gold!!! ;)

I got JB to Send me Her telephone number yesterday to cry on her shoulder about the dog. She went through This with one of her dogs and I needed a reality check. She made me feel better.

Waking up every other hour all night or so is starting to make Me feel like I did taking care o My mother towards the end. Like a zombie. Many more naps and less coffee today. ;)

On a positive note, my Queen's Tears (Billbergia nutans) is blooming!!! I bought a pup at the Master Gardeners' sale year before last and this is its first time to bloom.

Can I join this assortment of non-snoozers? So hot in the bedroom and my pillow feels like it is plugged in. *sigh*. I just got a sheet to put on the futon over top of the blanket I have on it........blanket is hot, hot, hot when I lay on that. Then will turn the fan on, point it at me, and hopefully go to sleep. If not, I know I will tomorrow night. I need to mow yard, and we will be going to the tractor pull at the local fair tomorrow night. My brother will be in it; he just started pulling this year. He has done an admirable job of holding up the bottom of his classes. LOLOL

Ohhh Anna, I'm so sorry it's that hot there. I read your posts in coffee chat today. When I lived in Boston and there'd be some crAzy temperAture spike their would be a run on fans and air conditioners. Crazy. And the gnats! I HATE that.

Cville your 'queens year's is very unusual. I know you must be very pleased, though. Is that the kind of plant the master gardeners sell on the first day of th plant sale? I only ever went on th second day to work my shift so I could be there when we started breaking it down. Then they'd pack the VW to overflowing with plants to get rid of. Often a giant container of dirt was too good to pass up. :)

OH well walked puppy, fed kitty , going back sleep .. I cheat ..

Heck No!  That yoga flared up the Achilles' tendon but didn't help with the sleep.  The blocks --- were purple!  DENSE foam about a foot high.  Here is a photo.  In case you are wondering that is not me. If that were me and I knew what I know now-- I'd be on a pole earning lots of dough so I could have retired younger and skipped the YOGA in my older age.   Included in the photo --Tanzanian TeaBerry coffee  because it is my buddy!  If I had to sit on the blocks it would not have been pretty -- but sure were helpful to raise up from a deep squat.  Yoga is OK - I think I will explore it - I got the impression it would help joints just by the stretches I could perceive a nice relaxation afterward. When done (this was at 10 am!) we had pasta with a tomato bacon sauce that used to be my mom's favorite.    (Sicilian's have no respect for what food at what time. ).  I think I had a stalker too  - but I did not realize that it was a shared experience.  It got to the point that I would post-- give it 10 minutes or so and get back on just to see what this person would say.  If I said blue- she said pink. If there was no way to say "pink" and retain credibility-- then she would expand upon my "blue" clearing up shortcomings in my post.  Sheesh!  I felt there was a mean girl on my tail.  I thought maybe I should send some of my nail clippings so that she could do me in once and for all! (another Sicilian thing).  I forgot about this group having just discovered it and so didn't sign on,  instead, I was reading a historical fiction and so I was in 1700's  Scotland during Jacobite uprising.   Retirement has its perks-- easier to not have sleep knowing no work the next day.  Plus, I can read frivolous things as compared to boring medical journals or technical magazines.  It sounds to me from your posts that perhaps some of the too soon awakenings are the fault of furry buddies.  I remember that well - Rosie would roll over and sigh and that would be it for me - engage the brain - and I am a goner. BUT I have always been a night owl.  I LIKE it - the problem is my spouse LOVES sleep and does it well.  Wakes at the crack of dawn refreshed. This was OK when I was young and dewey fresh. I could be up all night and all day.  Now......Not so much.  Plus ALL my energy is at night and I am ready to clean, vacuum, overhaul....but I can't go banging around pots and frying garlic,  spreading cleaning products and dancing to Jason Mraz and Kanye when it is 4 am.  Marital COMPATIBILITY involves many important topics - money, religion, sex....but mama should have told me about sleep compatibility.

Hi Anna. I was busy elsewhere and just got here. It's broiling here too. Heat index of 102° yesterday and predicted for again today. Sometimes I think I'm back out in CA except the humidity here makes it so that you can "feel the air". Ugh.

Amanda, they have such great prices at the MG sale here that most everything is snapped up within the first hour or two. It's like a stampede. Well, everything that I want always seems to be gone in a flash. Some invasives are always left. You'd think they would know better. They never have a second day. It's all over within a few hours. Those of us who don't know how to color between the lines start setting plants aside early. The best thing about their sale is that occasionally I meet a really fun gardener who isn't as full of him or herself as some of the others. We get an address and go out to their house or farm for a little tour and some freebies. Oh yeah, that's the best part.

Ugh. I just ate a few handfuls of salted almonds. I always enjoy but once done........BLEH....sorry I did it. Feels like a rock - even the small bit plus did not need the salt. That's great, Rosie. I hoped I was making the correct Italian Italian reference.

Funny thing that reminded me of a very nice guy I met and agreed to date when I was living in Boston. He had sort of reddish blonde hair. Later, I noticed he had a temper! And that he was Italian! I told him if I'd known he was Italian I wouldn't have gone out with him because I'd given up Italian men long before!

Just woke from a nap with my healthier pooch. Honestly wondered if we'd make it to Friday, so it's a bit of bliss to watch her sleep. you ever watch a dog sleep? Something going on in there. At one point running in a Fox hunt, another nose twitching and then lips curling up in a smile. We don't have cable so it beats watching the fish tank.

Rosie, I laughed out loud at your comments last night. Iron fist, wooden spoon. Hilarious! I used to work with an Italian lady, she was full of mirth. We'd dance polkas down the hall after hours. And big hugs, the best hugs. I don't suppose you are displaced from New York? Love your culture, love your people. :)
