Oh yum Jean and to be quite honest doesn't seem overhwelming. I love hamburg, actually would chose it over steak most times. I hate to admit this, me the gal who thought nothing of having 20 for dinner and serving at least a 3 course meal all from scratch but now with Warren not here it just seems like too much. I am sure it has more to do with the memories than the actual task at hand.
Katie I was going to go up the ladder today in the rain and try to unclog the drainpipe but before I did something foolish I remembered our agreement. lol Happy to read you are trying to stick by this agreement too!

I have my testing tomorrow Betty. Going to get more allergy pokes and testing and then a pneumococal
shot to see if it will kick start my system. It is in the bucket.
That is kinda what I thought Dianne. Maybe an hour or so prep time every now and then and you at least have a fairly square meal with little hassle....made a bunch for my Mom after my father passed....she would eat if it wasn't too involved....she said it wasn't worth the effort for 1 person....and she cooked for 7 for years. I like mixing up veggies, but i do label what the main veggies are.
Surely if you had a crowd coming over, the cooking would be second nature, but as Betty says, cooking for one is rather a task. And memories make it harder...not that you don't treasure them....they just hurt.
I agree with the cooking for one. Having a hard time thinking about what to fix with Kim gone but I am sure there is something in the cupboard. NO PBJ though.....not my favorite.
Hi Marion....still raining there?
Good luck tomorrow Debbie....hope ya get the kick ya need.
You can also use thin cuts of steak, just sear them first before freezing.
Now if we all lived closer I have enough to feed us all with what I've cooked.
Just had first feed of local strawberries and few cobs corn, could live on corn, cucumber and tomatoe sandwiches all summer long, throw in yellow beans with 1/4 pound of butter and I'm all set. Lol
Think you've got something there Jean, memories likely the main reason.
Debbie, sure hope this shot of pneumococcal helps, not sure what it does but sounds impressive.
Wonder if Ann got home yet, she was helping move her daughter.. One more week and she has made the 24 weeks, will then be admitted into hospital as the twins will be considered viable..imagine
Not like it had been. We did have a shower earlier today but that is about it. My sister in the southern part of the state got 6" from mid afternoon yesterday until 8 this morning. She called me about 4ish and you could hear the rain as we talked. Now she is worried about the water coming in the house as the ditch in front (and it is a really deep ditch) is over flowing and the pastures are all under water.
LOL Marian it is not exactly my favourite but I had cheesewhiz last night. Thought I'd branch out tonight. But Jean you did inspire me to dice up a small steak and stir fry it with some veggies I had on hand. I've taken to buying the fruit and veggie trays - often 2 for $20.. (at our Foodland Betty). It gives me a variety of both fruit and veggies without me having to buy the whole thing. It would only go to waste - especially the fruit and in the long run probably more economical for me to buy. When I worked at the store I used to chuckle ( to myself) at people who bought these trays thinking they were wasteful but now it makes perfect sense. Same with the bags of salad. Warren was an excellent helper and he loved to chop and dice - he never got tired of doing it and often encouraged me to have Chinese dishes so he could 'help'. When I first met him he thought a tossed salad was wonderous and very difficult to make. I soon burst that bubble!
Diesel and I will be there with you Debbie tomorrow. Diesel promises to be on his best behaviour. I sure hope the docs can get to the bottom of all of this and get you feeling better. How is your foot tonight?
Betty did you have some of that lovely sounding dinner before you put it in the fridge?
Those sound delicious Jean.
It is pouring rain here and is supposed to for the next few days. Sure hope it lets up for the 4th...
Actually sat up for over an hour today. Small steps!!!! Tomorrow I go find out about the tingling in my toes. That's me - Tingle-toes!!! I'm hoping it is related to the sciatica and not circulation....
Hope your shot does what you need it to Debbie....
Betty - no more yard work if this is what it does to you!!!! Get some rest.
Glad to hear you are home safe Susan. Hope you can get your camper back soon.
Happy Canada Day Marilynne!!! I didn't mean to leave you out earlier. Not been
paying attention I guess!!!!
Have a great evening everyone....
Fingers crossed for your sister Marion....hope she stays high and dry.
Brava Dianne...glad you are eating happy tonight.
I know it was for my Mom Betty.
Barb, when I herniated a couple discs in my back, sciatica was the first diagnosis....even though that was years ago, I still get a bit of tingling down my leg and a bit of numbness also. It serves as a reminder to take it easy sometimes.
Jean - does it go away at all? This has been constant now for over a week....
Actually I had some chicken, fresh yellow squash, okra and sliced tomatoes. I promised myself I would not slip into the sandwich or just soup thing while Kim is away. It is so easy to do, that I understand very well. Besides when I am south I see my sister living on french fries and that is not good....for her nor me. I try to cook when I am down there so she atleast will get some fresh veggies.
Barb, that is good news. Hope your back continues to improve. For the moment we aren't getting the rain but it is suppose to start again tomorrow with a high percentage chance. We shall see.
Jean, that is a neat idea. I might do some of those when Kim starts back to school for when I go south to visit with mom.
Oops! spoke to soon......rain is back.
Barb, I spent two solid weeks flat on my back with my knees bent over a pillow to relieve tension. The only time I was allowed up was for bathroom/shower. I don't remember how long after I was up and around before the tingling and twinges went away, just noticed one day I could feel my toes and they weren't tingling and nothing hurt.
Maybe, Marion, you could do a few for your sister when you visit her also. I also do meats for stir fry and freeze them, as well as packets of raw veggies, cut , frozen and ready to go. So many times we talk ourselves out of taking the time and effort to chop and cook and clean only to sit down alone to eat....gotta remember that food can be a pleasure and eating a good meal is both healthy and enjoyable.
I was thinking about doing just that Barb. Mom had done all the cooking inspite of her age until all of this started 3 years ago. Sue just hadn't bothered to do any cooking. Thank goodness Kim does like to be in the kitchen.
Dianne, I was talking to Judy just a little bit ago, and her first day at work is in the morning, she goes to work at 10:00 am. She is just so excited about getting that job!
Jean, those burgers in the foil sound really good, I will have to try that.
Barb, when I first hurt my back, I was flat on my back the first 2 weeks, when I saw the socialist, he told me to get up and move as much as I could stand too. After I started moving it got better.
Betty, sure hope you have taken a muscle relaxer, and getting a good nights sleep tonight?
First, I am getting allergy "pricks" to get myself tested for the "inhaled" allergens like pollen, dust, mold...cats!! THEN....
Do you all remember growing up, getting all the vaccines and the same for our kids? Well, my body has "dumped" them for some reason and I only have protection on the Tetanus and Diptheria. SO, this is a vaccine to "protect" against 23 forms of bacteria that are in the pneumonia (pneumococal) family...which causes all kinds of respiratory, ear, lung....infections. In about 6 weeks...I will get another "titer" blood test, to see how my body responded to it, and if it is holding onto those protections. IF it does....I get to start getting vaccinations all over again for certain things. Oh joy! lol
We have more rain....and dang, but it is cold out there. Quite chilly
JUDY!!! Wishing you the best for your first day of work. You will do amazing!!!
Everyone have a good nights sleep and get rest!
Debbie
Hello To All !
Debbie ...had those tests... was very surprised that my allergies had changed from the teen years..... but I think will help you find some relief !
(HUGS) Betty laughing over your lack of patience and Greg's exasperation LOL... Congrats to Kyle... can't believe he is graduating ! You gals have been with me through 3 kids graduating...
JEAN! Great weather today !
JUDY JUDY JUDY ! Congrats on the J*O*B*! So happy for you this is perfect !
Dianne... craving salt? wonder if it's just something your body needs at this time... that's what they say......
EH!? HAPPY CANADA DAY TO our new friends... Betty, Susan, Dianne, etc.
Barb glad to see you post.
30 year High School class reunion was very nice! I suppose by 30 years ...even the most blessed gals have had "LIFE" hit them and everyone was very nice and friendly.... My best old friends did not come.
But with the folks that were there... I had a great time. One gal came a long way without her hubby and when someone asked she said that she had beat breast cancer and her hubs had spent all his vacation time taking care of her. She had also lived through a few tours in IRAC...... so she won the "Biggest accomplishment" and it really touched me.
Class of 647? and we had 109 show up.... I thought I was the only one in Louisiana but there was a gal from Destrehan LA and coincidentally she was the only other gal who went to my alma mater USM in Mississsippi....
HUGS
Mary
Thank you so much for the messages of encouragement my friends. This has been a trial for sure. It's in its fourth week now but I am able to get up and move. I talked with my PCP yesterday and she wants to see me on Wed. regarding the tingling in the feet. I have severe COPD and am on 02 24/7. She wants to make sure this is not a circulation issue. Thank heaven her office is close by so no long car ride to get there..... I'll let you know what she says.
In the meantime, I'm waving hello and will be back later~~~~~
(((Barb))) Sure hope you can get some relief soon. Love your positive, upbeat approach sweet lady. We all know attitude is key in winning any health matter.
Oooops wanted to blab more but Diesel has other ideas. His head is resting on the keyboard so please forgive me for any typing errors.
BBL
Dianne
A quick good morning and then running out the door.
Barb, continued healing ....thoughts and prayers.
OK, I am off and running.
Debbie
Morning everyone!
Dianne, sounds like our dogs are giving both of us hints! Luna is trying to jump in my lap as I type, she wants to chase her tennis ball, so I too will be back in a bit!
Good Morning
Continued good thoughts and prayers from Canada to Mexico and all points in between.
I agree with LK...after the flat out for two weeks, it was walk, walk, walk. Barb, I do hope it is just residual from the sciatica....fingers crossed you will be up and running soon. ((HUGS))
Can't wait to hear from Judy re her first day....I think she is walking on air right now...grin
Debbie, fingers crossed that it all takes....time for you to absolutely "catch a break"
MARY! so glad you had a good time....30 years....just got a notice a couple days ago for our 44th reunion...boy does time fly....grin
Had to laugh...Dogs know what they want...why are humans so slow to understand that? GRIN
Have a lovely day.
Jean
Jeez but you guys are really making me feel old! Already have attended my 50th HS reunion and this year would have been our 55th but no one seems to be interested in planning. Of course there were only 29 in our class.....21 attended the 50th (6 had passed and 2 couldn't be found). Actually most of the class still lives in the area......sad!!
Good luck with the test Debbie.
Okay so everyone's dogs are directing their activities at the moment. To funny...my daughter's cat is wandering around my desk...she really is missing Kim.
Judy, can't wait to hear about your first day.
Sun is shining but for how long....who knows. My sister had 3 1/2" of rain yesterday to add to the 6 the day before. Definitely having water issues now.
Well back to my list of chores that I will get done before Kim returns home. I hate cleaning out kitchen cupboards so it was at the top.
And cats can be a lot pushier than dogs....grin i am sure Kim's kitty will be happy to help with the cupboards.
ROFLOL, oh Jean how right you are!!! That and when I shower, she thinks she should shower also..crazy animal. Fun though.
Now that is a kitty taking clean to the extreme...grin
Strange we haven't seen Betty this morning....hope she survived all that yard work yesterday....
I was wondering the same Jean. So rare not to see her posting first early in the morning. Hope she is okay.
I am not sure how this clean thing started but I do know she has a routine with Kim in the mornings. Seems she knows when Kim is ready to shower and immediately runs and does an "Indy 500" around the tub, jumps on the side of the tub until Kim get in, then she moves to the lid of the commode. When Kim gets out she jumps to the top of the sink to then be picked up and cuddled. Boy talk about getting use to this routine.
Funny how quickly an animal can teach us their routine! I mean we teach the animals...
Betty, sure hope your not so sore your stuck in bed.
And cats do get set in their routines...they can get quite the snitty kitty when you don't do what they expect....our grand dam Mea will come into the room and bellow and gripe when she is ready for us to come to bed....I swear she has a clock....DH goes to sleep early when he is on days...has to get up at 3AM.....if he isn't in bed by 9PM, she lets him know it is time....if he ignores her, she will go into the bed room, curl up on his pillow and yowl like she is wounded....cats are the strangest critters...grin
Indeed they are but they are also so much company! I also have a cat that is almost full blooded Egyptian Mau and she refuses to let me sleep on the side of the bed that my late husband slept on. Finally after many bites and infections, I had to lock her out of the room. You would think after 9 years...but no!
They have incredibly long memories...must go with those 9 lives. She must have been very attached to your DH.
She was. She was his cat and all during his year plus of therapy for cancer, she was by his side when we would home.
Grief does strange things to us all...even our animals. When my father passed, my Mom finally gave his dog his pillow...that stopped the dachshund for snapping at her at bed time.
Where is Betty? No Betty since 7:00 last night.
How did the test go Debbie.
You are right, no Betty and that is really strange.
Marion, it was not comfortable. Over 30 "pricks" on my back....and 18 on my arms that were
injected under the skin.
I am allergic to....Mold & dust mites that were a "high positive". Maple & Ash trees. Ragweed & kochia weed
AND of all things.....dogs & cats. Sigh. I am in DEEP doo-doo!!
I am developing asthma issues, and probably will have to start allergy shots.
Dropping in with quick 'hi' sore today, trouble with this old body, off to bed, am sure I'll be a -ok tomorrow..
Night night
Take care Betty...otherwise Greg will be toe tapping saying I told you so....
Not good Debbie. Sorry it was uncomfortable but most test we need are these days. My sister is really allergic to cats and absolutely refused to get rid of them Gave herself shots for years and years but finally that changed and she seems to be okay now. Good thing as she has 20. Long story...another day. :-)
Betty, I for one, don't like the sound of that post. What have you gone and done now......appears we are going to have to come and "hog tie" you down and take you to the doctor and find out what is ailing you. Do take care, please
Not raining at the moment but it is on the radar. Oh well, good night to read a book.
Betty, standing here in Trxas, tapping my toes right along with everyone else! PLEASE call the Dr.
Debbie, sorry to hear the testing was not pleasant.
