My hoya is blooming for the first time of the season. I absolutely love this plant! Unfortunately, it is very slow growing. I took cuttings about 2 years ago and they've grown only an inch or two. Once you get a bloom though, it will bloom from the same place forever. Gotta be careful not to take cuttings without watching where those blossom spots are!
Each blossom is made up of tiny flowers. The flowers look and feel plastic.
SWEET INTERRUPTIONS # 260
Cindy, is that an excuse not to show us how you look with the new hairdo? Lol!!
So in a month's time, we can expect a new pic of you.
Thanks for sharing Lanakila. I've never tried Hoya, and I love fragrant blooms.
dr. says my sleeping all the time is my minds way of not having to deal with my depression over my daughter and grandson. she says its easier to just shut down. she changed mmy depression meds. and wants e to talk to a shrink
I have a large Hoya, it was a gift to my dad when he was in the hospital with cancer. I know its over 30 years old. I just love when it blooms, it doesn't look like a real flower.
Sis, if you're sleeping all the time, you're going into deep depression. Your doctor's doing the right thing. We want you back enjoying a full life and I for one need my regular sparring partner during football season.
Karen, are hoyas temperamental like the brugs?
Another sistah grows hoyas, but then she doesn't have as many cats as I do! Lol!!
Jayegirl....say "Noodle Head" that's what I have LOL ^_^ I'll post a pix soon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hi ladies
Cindy bummer on the sale . I don't do yard sales anymore. I just donate them. I hate waiting around all day for people . Tim hates it but i don't care.
Jaye hope your headaches feel better soon
oh what a pretty hoya flower.
Wish i had the magic potion for you and your depression sis. I know its hard to get out of my friend. sending well wishes . You need to feel the pain or you will never pass through the journey and start to feel better. Meds can't help you there IMHO. shrink ? maybe . IMHO. depression is a natural emotion that comes with sorrow and loss. Feel it girl. just feel it and it will pass. trust me . :) but do talk to someone anyone who will listen talk talk talk . the best way to help deal with this .
love you all
sue
I don't think Hoyas are very fussy Jaye, if they were, mine would have kicked off ages ago. It has to hang upstairs under a skylight in the winter and I hang it outside in the summer. I doubt it's any bigger now than when my dad passed in 2005. I kind of got it by default, no one else wanted it. I love it though.
Beautiful blooms on the hoya! I have heard they attract butterflies?
Cindy, we will be waiting for your picture!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkjScqk70dI
Please watch, this will make you smile!
My hoya isn't fragrant, but maybe some are. It has always been in the window in my office, so maybe it would grow faster if it were outside. I have cats, so taking it home is a no-go.
Lanakila, that reminds me... my colleague had this humongous Christmas cactus that never stop blooming. It must be the fluorescent light!
Yep, I can't see myself growing anything in the house, for the same reason.. cats!
Since the gh can't be heated sufficiently enough, I had to make space for the straggling brugs and epis.
Thanks LK, I like Christopher Walken. He's a great dancer too!
It's Sis Kathy that has those headaches, Sue.
Now why won't you share with us the good news that you've lost so much weight? I had to find it out on FB!!!!
Come on now.. I shared with you when I gained 15 pounds!!
Congrats Sue!!
Murdock is home. This was unexpected for Kel, Lord knows I won't get into this.
Good thing, there will be a nurse aide to give him baths 5 times a week.
Mind's succumbing to a void stage.. it's coming.. I can tell..
so.. good night my pretttttttttttttttyyy sistahs.. and niece Cody.
Darn.. to be in my twenties again...
Morning everyone!!
It was more digging and transplanting for me yesterday, Cody. Such is my life, nothing much to talk about.
Yep, I'm up very early. Kel had to be at a class OOT in a few hours. Making sure he has enough carbos in his belly.
Class starts at 8 for him, a 1 and a half hour's drive, but he has to attend to his father first.
Lanakila, will you be going to the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo @ the Raleigh Convention Center, which starts today?
I'm praying hard I could, it's been a few years since I last attend a quilting show.
Kel said we might sneak away on Saturday. It's a 2 hrs. drive from here, and with his dad so ill, he's taking chances. Most probably just a quick look and see... then back to town.
If you see a fat little Asian looking woman.. tap my shoulder will you?
Have a good day everyone.
Most likely when you all are up, I'd be back in bed!
Here's a picture of the haze in Singapore, taken from my god daughter's balcony. She lives on the 20th floor of a high rise apt.
This is the result of a neighbouring country, Indonesia's forest fires. Indonesia has declared state of emergency, whereas Singapore with ten points below, didn't.
All businesses are as usual. Thank God, it's the school holidays, so my sisters and their kids can escape to another country.

More pictures. First is of my brother, Tadin with my sister, Zi and youngest child Siti in blue.
The two lads are cousins Adam and Alex. I haven't met Adam at all... he's now 24. That's how long I haven't been home.
Adam and Uncle Tadin are on their way to Amsterdam, spending a day there before returning to Singapore.
Your up early Jaye! Good luck to Kel for his testing.
Love the family photo's!
Thanks LK, this time it's another course he had to take.
So many courses and tests and yet the pay is pittance! Oh well, at least it's a steady job right?
The things we have to do, just to keep a job!
Then before he left, he told me that I have enough daylilies for the whole neighbourhood and to stop looking at new ones!
Lolol.. that boy doesn't know me at all, LK!!
Every time I go somewhere, I come home with new plants and or fabric. Todd say's no more plants! I look at him, and tell him when he stops collecting hot rods, I will stop collecting plants and fabric!
Oh dear.. Todd has an expensive hobby. For that reason, you have a good excuse to buy a whole store!!
I'd say our men are lucky to have us. We're not into jewelry or clothes.. just plants and fabric..and more plants!! Lol!
Just say "Yes Dear" and go on your merry way.
Yes m'am!!!
^_^ Yes dear!
LK, asking us to not bring home any plants or fabric is just a fantasy on their part. In fact, I'm going to a sewing expo tomorrow. I don't need a darned thing but you can bet that I'll "need" something. :)
Okay ladies, it has been a long time since I have heard those words but they still echo in my ears!!!!! Ross was always telling me no more fabric or plants. At the end he did ask Kim (can't believe he did it) to see if she could break me of my habit. Ha!!! Never. So when I go to a nursery or fabric store she just smiles and says "remember what dad asked". Smart girl, she learned to pick her battles and this is one she knows she can't win. :-)
No fabric today but I did find some Hidden Gingers and wouldn't you know......the lined up and jumped into my cart one by one. Oh I love how they knew which basket to get into. Also found a new type of crepe myrtle...Southern Living Delta Jazz. It says it will grow in part shade and the leaves are a wonderful black burgundy. Hummm, me thinks it might just follow me home in the next few days. I know I am BAD!!!
Well, I am tired and I have a date with 2 very energetic young ladies tomorrow afternoon so I best go get some down time for now.
Oh Marion, that crepe myrtle sounds pretty!
Good morning everyone.
Lanakila, I was hoping maybe I'd bump into you tomorrow!
Kel said he had convinced his brother to come home for the weekend so we could go.
But then, until that trip happened, nothing is certain yet.
Marion, hidden gingers are beautiful and the blooms smell so good! You could pull the flowers off the plants, grabbing their stalks, and the scent will permeate a small room.
Mine died one bad winter. The blooms are really hidden.. got to separate the leaves to find them!
Wonder what you'll do to occupy the girls that will require them to stay still, besides movies and eating!
Nothing much going on here, can't do any planting since the Almanac said the next two days will be poor for that. So I think I'll just clean up some old pots and get them ready for transplants.
Got a couple of voodoo lilies from a nice FBer.
Any of you sistahs ever grow them? They'll be in pots for sure.
Jaye, I got a voodoo lily from Janice from Cubits a few years ago, it grows, but so far no bloom. Cindy had one bloom a few weeks ago. She said she came home from a trip, and it was blooming in the house. She had to remove it immediately, as Doug had no clue it was smelling!
Jaye, what kind of ginger's did you send me? I just Google hidden ginger, and they come in a lot of beautiful colors!
Morning everyone!
Liz, if your lurking, just wanted to say Happy Birthday to you! Hope your not working too hard!
The gingers I sent you were Hedychiums. The leaves are tall and the flowers are on taller stalks, so will not be hiding!
Well if it takes years to bloom, I'll leave them in the house for now!! Lol!! Don't want to have Cindy's experience.
Happy Birthday Liz!!!
Happy Birthday Liz :) hope you have a great one, and get to do something you love ♥♥♥ Hugs
Thanks for sharing the family pictures, Jaye. Have to say, I think you look more like your brother than your sister!
Happy birthday Liz, sure hope Kenny spoils you beyond reason!
Jaye, love the family photo's
Marion, can you believe there is a butter tart festival going on here?? Not joking
Back outside, too nice to be inside till late tonight when skitters come to visit..
Happy birthday liz!!
Brb!
Hiya Sistah...
Ohhh, raising hand here, pick me, pick me
I know who has that plant!! The voodoo plant owner
is Cindy! I remember her showing it on her new pack porch...
LOL, see I do pay some attention, hehe.
Marion, I hope Kim has a wonderful experience on her trip.
So smiling as the first batch of daisies popped!! These are 13th generation, and 3 rd season in this section!
What a great way to Start the summer!
grr something came and ate my oriental lily!!

Cookie, my brother and I have our dad's large face and forehead!! He's also a brainiac! I sure am glad he has a great job that enables him to travel often.
Did you put any buttertarts in Marion's box Betty?
Hey Sistah Judy!!
No butter tarts in the box. :-( ......and to think I missed my flight to attend the butter tart festival. All the calories for a year in one place...how good is that? LOL
Jaye, oh believe me, Catie-Beth won't be still until the movie and then it will be snuggle as close as you can to either me or Kim. Abbigail is starting to mature and is more young lady like in her activities now. It will be a wonderful please afternoon and evening...just the 2 of us and the girls. This will also include a trip to the bookstore for a book each...grandma's rules: book, NO toy!!!
Here you go Marion!!
AND, these really are from Betty's.Sistah gathering, We told you, we'ld share., heheh.
yipeee, i"m finally getting some time to play and look at pictures.
Awe have a lovely time, I am so smiling that to the book store with the girls...What do they like to read?
MIL used to take the kids to the Library all the time. I have a kindle and never use it for reading, lol I guess i just like to go and touch the book, plus I hate that you cant physically turn a page and I dunno it just not as relaxing to read.
We've heard so much about Abbi and CB, Marion, I for one would hate to see them grow up too soon.
When I see kids at the bookstores, it always bring back memories of when I used to bring my younger siblings to the bookstores. Singapore has a 3 story bookstore, including a basement, that I can find my little brother on the floor, leafing through comics.
Sistah Judy, I'm still Nookless! Books here too. I'm too tactile, like you, I like to feel pages! Lol.
Give Julia a hug for me please. I read on her FB page that some people disappoint her. Tell her to think of the ones that don't!
Buttertarts.. buttertarts.. I want some more Betty!!
Got to be contented with tassies!
Will be gone soon, sleep early and off to Raleigh tomorrow for that quilting show, unless I get news from Lanakila that it's not worth the trip (2 and a half hours' one way). Then I'll still be gone, but might head for Wilmington instead, an hour less, to hit Hobby Lobby and Joann's.
