My Goat's Beard is the same Betty. I divided mine in the spring too. It must be all our rain!! I wish I hadn't planted my very first Goat's Beard right by the front door. The dogs have taken over the years to laying under it for shade so I didn't bother to rehome it.

Susan where are you sweetie??? Sending positive thoughts your way.

It was very sweet of Gordon to hang and then fold the sundresses M. Yep a quick tumble should do the trick. It's one of those things you just don't mention do you?

Rain starting here, how about you Betty?

Dianne

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Is Goat's Beard also called Fleece plant?
I have the latter, and it looks so much the same, and, it is growing like gang busters this year.

Sorry to hear that the critter crawled away on ya Betty. The odour will dissipate after awhile.

Gordon took some pictures of the perennial bed,I'll upload them when I can.
Just finished ordering a bunch of baking from the bakery I usually call at xmas, lorna's parents will not be getting homemade this time around, MAYBE a rhubarb pie if I can swing it.

Going to try and manage another outsie on the patio.

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne, luckily after lunch I decided to go to Fabricland, thank goodness I did, storm was brewing and I had my roof top window open, what a wet mess that would have been..

Yes, same plant..when Joyce (Joycet) was up a few weeks ago and I was changing the garden somewhat, I moved 2, 1 on each side of a walkway, if it keeps this up it will hide back garden and make it feel like I'm entering another area. Great shade Dianne, my problem is I planted it too close to the eating area in the far back, taking over about 1/3 when fully gown of the cement patio, too late this year but know what I have to do next year..seems it reseeds, are you finding stray plants???

"M", didn't crawl away, lol
Someone told me it turn to mold and mold spores can kill you..has me worried, likely not that bad with one little mouse.

Fabricland had customer appreciation day, the large spools of thread I use for the quilting machine here are $14.00, I needed 2 so a great buy and then I've still about 5 sets of 5 Christmas placemats that I needed batting for so bought some as well.

Took a look at weather, says showers Sat/possibly Sun and for sure Monday, seeing I'm working from home tomorrow and weather not being that great I'll have the supplies to finish some sewing projects.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hope your Friday at home is non busy work wise, and, productive with the projects Betty.

It was 1C here this morning !!! Plants all look fine (so far) beautifully sunny !!

Did manage to get out again yesterday. Lorna took me for a ride around the property in the Mule .. I have to admit, she sure has things looking mighty spiffy .. as I said, I'll post some pics later on.
Trying to get loosened up enough to get ready to head for my Rheumatologist appt .. SO hoping he can put some pressure on somewhere and get me seen to .. find it so disheartening to hear of people who are having the surgery who were NEVER in the shape I'm in !!

Off and shuffling here ..

Later ladies

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all..

Now that is cold for this time of year "M"
Sun is out right now, trees are swaying back and forth but it's not raising and that is a plus.

Lorna is a sweetheart for sure, am sure she knows how overwhelmed you are not being able to get things done!

Here's hoping your appointment offers you some ease with the pressure/pain..
Maybe go treat yourself to something while out.

Easy day, yep, I've just finished quilting last of the black/white quilt, off the frame..my goal today will be to bind it so in the evenings I will have something to occupy my time, either that or hand see at work and would love to put the quilt I'm doing for niece who got married in Jamaica and is having a reception here next month put on the frame so I can get it quilted.

Suzanne just called, Paul called her, he's off golfing this a.m. And she has been in the office since 7am so will leave around noon or so,Bryan is leaving at noon as well .. Everyone taking advantage of the weather.

Don't trust hearing my phone ring or I would be out cutting grass so I will get it done late afternoon and have all weekend to play.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

The start of a rainy weekend at 6am this morning. The radar images show nothing but a huge green mass.
Oh well, the flowers need it.

Very good doctors appointment yesterday. His resident was very thorough and kind.
When I wheeled into the rheumatologist 's office I was stunned. There he sat with a large walking cast on his right leg. He ripped his Achilles tendon while playing basketball with his sons.
At any rate he expressed his concerns re my now being in a wheelchair, and assured me that I would be placed as a high priority on the orthopedic surgeon 's list when I see him in July.
Seems so far Away.

Am supposed to be helping Lorna with the final house go through, but, it was pill night last night and I am flat out.
Have to rouse a bit better as I am making crock pot pea soup for lunch tomorrow when her parents arrive.

Betty, did you get the grass cut? Hope so, so that you can enjoy your weekend.
I remember that Susan mentioned she and Bob were going camping this weekend.

Best get moving

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all,

The most perfect day here, did look like rain and they were calling for rain but I'm pleased to say you couldn't get any better.

Up really early, seeing I had science projects growing in the refrigerator thought it was first on my list..now it's bare except for few jars of jam and milk..

Then into the back garden with the Mosquitos..worked hard, pulled, transplanted and threw away on the burn pile a bunch of plants..taller ones were taking over..made me sad to do it but even a French garden look needs purging.

Did get my grass cut last night, Lordy I should have bought a riding lawnmower years ago.

"M" maybe his being injured has made him more understanding..glad it was a good appt. July really isn't too far away, be here before you know it.

Reminder, let Lorna and Gordon do the work, you just direct them as to what needs done..

Marilynne - Glad that you are being moved up in priority.

I need to get off the computer and in to the garden. Be back in a bit.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Thanks ViAnn ... fingers (and toes) crossed on that !!

Wow, did we ever had a BOOM BANG BOOM thunderstorm last night, poor Piper was cuddling up for reassurance BIG time :-)
Right now it's sunny and bright .. Lorna and Gordon have headed to the airport to pick up her folks, and I am trying to manage setting a table from a wchair .. as you can see, I gave up LoL .. I just have no sense of control, the poor dogs are staying way away from me LoL

I hope everyone has a great day .

Later

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Heavy rains here since early mornimg, not making it easy for those celebrating Father's Day!

I'm sure Lorna's folks seeing how much pain you are in will help out,you are to do nothing remember and here you are trying to set a table..looking at you with finger pointing and cross eyes..feet up and enjoy gabbing and scheduling in many naps.

I've hypertufa to take out of molds this afternoon so hope the rain stops for a bit..decided as I worked in the gardens all day yesterday and seeing its raining I could finish quilting, 1 hour into it and the metal strapping on the quilting foot broke so now to find something else to fill in my day.

Guess I could just rest?? Nah

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LOL thanks for the cyber scolding Betty. Gordon called to say the flight will be about 15 minutes late, I got whatfor from him for futzing around, so I am back laying on the bed, Smokey has graced me with his presence and is purring away.

Sorry to hear about your rain, the sun is still holding here. Murray and the family will be coming out this afternoon.

Resting is over rated, now I have my eye on the ceiling fan. Trying to remember the last time I dusted it, it looks ok.

TTFN

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

You can stay about as still as I can. Lol

Glad you've sunshine for your gathering.

Rain did stop about 20 minutes ago, will go out and take the hypertufa out of their forms and distress.

Funny, on fathers day Roger always wanted a homemade stew..here I am all alone, went downtown to get the ingredients and now cooking a stew big enough to feed 10. Lol

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty - what is your hypertufa recipe? I really need to try it sometime.

Victoria Harbour, ON

1 peat moss (put through screen so the larger pieces can be taken out)
1 portland
1 peatmoss or 1 vermiculite or you can use 1/2 and 1/2
pinch of fibermesh for strength..I could send you a bit..usually available at a ready mix cement company

strong bristle metal brush for distressing

I will make another batch early evening so it's still wet enough to distress when I get home from work tomorrow..

what you do is make as many stems as you want mushrooms ahead of time and distress..I bought 12" and 16" nails so that when stems are poured and set for about 10 minutes I could insert..because of various soils it has enough strength to secure them in the ground so they don't fall over, I found heavy wire just wasn't strong enough..

another thing I found, I used pam spray on my mold before setting the bag over or into the mold for filling the mold..i.e. vase..just make sure the vase you are using has no curves, must be straight otherwise when you go to pull the piece out it won't come out and you will have to break the vase..ask me how I know this lol

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Like ViAnn I would like to 'try' doing this HYPERTUFA challenge, NOT forgetting the PAM LoL
May take me awhile to get into it, but, it can wait a bit ..

I had an email from the Funeral Home that handled Carole's arrangements .. she will have been gone a year on June 19 !!!

Lorna's parents arrived, all went well until they got into her car .. we had just had it serviced etc ..wouldn't go .. no way, nadda .. trying to have it seen to today .. almost impossible, thank heaven we have CAA to tow it !!

Hope all have a good week .. have been thinking about Susan and hoping her Mom is OK ..

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hard to believe it's been a year for Carol, she is missed!
Morning all,

How inconvenient is that, tired after a long trip and break down. Likely something minor, not that old is it?

As for the hypertufa, it's so very easy, just like baking a cake, need right mixture..actually it's been fun.
Have all the ingredients sitting in my wheelbarrel so I will finish off a few more pieces tonight.

was raining off and on as I travelled to Barrie but looks like the sunshine is coming out..suppose to be in the mid 60's and wouldn't you know, calling for rain this coming weekend.

I promised Darlene I'd help with her garage sale on Saturday, hope if it's going to rain it will not be until later in the day.

Quiet day, should take something out to work on but think I will just sit and mellow out..lol

Remember "M" you are to do nothing, nothing at all

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

It was Lorna's little Chevrolet Cavalier that wouldn't go, it's 18 years old, starting to nickel and dime her, so it may be gone soon. Too bad as it's a good little vehicle.

So far I'm trying to be relaxed but it's tough.

Off to oversee lunch

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, once you start putting out $$$ you might as well get another..would she need one for the amount she drives??

Oversee, ahhh for some reason I think you'll be trying to do something in the kitchen

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Yahoo... The fix on the car was less than 60.00!!
A loose wire in the ignition thingy :)

Lunch was easy, thanks to Gordon. I basically cut and buttered buns.
Supper should also be easy. Chicken and rice and salad.

I've pretty much stayed horizontal and Lorna and her parents have played cards.

Weather is cool,but sunny

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good girl "M" knew you could be a lady of leisure if you tried to be! $60 isn't bad on the pocketbook, bet Lorna was relieved.

Cool here as well, have a batch of hypertufa to mix, going to get that done then will put binding on a quilt so I can hand sew at work tomorrow..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning everyone,

Gorgeous sunshine day here in my neighborhood!

Put in a few hours before heading to work this morning adding binding on the black/white quilt so I can hand sew all day..thought I'd try taking hypertufa out of their pots even though I should have done it later this afternoon but lo and behold they came out easy and distressing even easier when they are wet..pleased with my morning..

You can tell just how relaxing it is at work..hand sewing the quilt lol

How are you all doing today, weather co-operating and the gardens, are you seing a lot of pretties coming out to great you?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Awwwwwwwww Betty .. WORK OVERLOAD !!! LoL .. so nice you can fill in time doing your quilt ^_^

Bright and sunny here as well .. hopefully the folks will be able to sit outside for a bit .. ysterday was SO cool .. but, they're happy just sitting in the kitchen talking with Lorna and playing cards while i lay on the bed and read ..
I took myself OFF the pain med I was placed on May 31 .. I think it may be at the bottom of all my nausea, and, in all truthfullness, I really wasn't seeing any GREAT benefit from it. Back to tylenol extra strength ..and an anti inflammatory.

BBQ for lunch today, then the folks are calling it an early day .. in actual fact, I tend to think we feed them TOO much ... they're 82 and 83 and eat light during their days .. here we are cooking them TWO big meals .. so .. that's stopping.
Tomorrow we celebrate EVERYONES Bday .. they are picking up Swiss Chalet and I have ordered a cake .. always a nice time ..
Gord and I will have a receipt for them for 3 nights paid at the hotel .. I know Lorna's Mom will cry .. she's a soft heart :-)
I feel it's the least we can do as they can't stay here with us .. especially now with TWO disabled people cruising around with equipment.

Best tidy up the kitchen a bit ...

Have a wonderful day

HI SUSAN !!!

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure she will cry "M", that is so very thoughtful!
Know I'd be drowsy if I ate 2 big meals..

Glad they have some sunshine during their stay..how far is the hotel from you?

You are teasing me with Swiss Chalet, restaurant right across the street so who knows might go there for lunch lol

Enjoy your celebration day.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

The hotel is about 15-20 minutes away in the city. It's a Traveloge, very nice .. And the staff was smart enough to put them on the first floor due to the elevator strikers.

Should be here anytime now..off I go

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Enjoy!!! remember, no doing anything!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I DID do a bit, not a lot though :-)

Seems going off the high powered medication has been the right thing to do .. feel about 50% better!

Looking forward to the BDay party day tomorrow .. NO cooking or futzing about YAY ..

Betty, hope you got to play with your hypertufa mixings .. nice they plopped out OK even prior to the time they were to be ready!

Sleep well

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling re meds..nobody knows their body and drug tolerance better than oneself.

Have a piece of cake for me..

Didn't do Swiss chalet today, had pizza left over from yesterday in office refrigerator so thought I'd finish it off..didn't ate 1 of three pieces.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

There was a day, many years ago, when a piece of cold pizza was a student nurses preeminent choice for breakfast lol. Back in the day, it was delicious! AND, no microwaves.
Definitely will save you that piece of cake Betty, there'll be lots.

Kinda made a bit of a discovery yesterday. We like eating our main meal at around 1pm. Then around 6pm we had fruit or cereal or toast, something light. I think we might try it for a bit..

Had another message from the funeral home in Calgary. Carols brother has written an entry re her final internment. It took place down east (Aylmer) on May 31st.
When I am able to get to my laptop I'll share the link. I'm still in bed balancing this playbook. My hip is telling me I overdid it yesterday :(

Ps. Where are you Susan, miss you.

AbAnn .. watched a short clip on the news last evening re the 'FLUFFIES' flying around your area and the increase in allergies in that region because of it .. good thing it doesn't last too long !!!
How are your flowers doing ?

Just finished my shower, WHAT a production .. betweens canes and reachers etc it's an ordeal rather than a pleasure ..

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

thanks for the link "M"

Birthday celebration day right???

Did I hear right, snow flurries, say is isn't so!!!

Big sigh, remember that sewing machine I bought in Florida at Christmas, bottom end broke, returned it late March when I went back to Florida and they exchanged it??? did about 2 quilts on it, turn it on, no power, no warrantee here in Canada..not liking it

Took it to the repair shop, they will see what needs to be done, offered me 1/3 of original cost on trade in..pitiful but think I'm going to trade it in.

enough is enough..lesson I did learn..buy in Canada regardless of the bargain price in USA

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Tough lesson to learn Betty, but, i can almost betcha ALL of us have done something the same. With me it was a sweater .. expensive, bought at a posh shoppe in San Francisco .. back to Canada, wore it once, the venue was warm, the dye in it RAN onto the white blouse it was over !!!!!!! Called the 'boutique' .. too bad, so sad, no returns.
Be grateful you'll get something .. still in all, very distressing for you.

The 'FLUFFIES' I was referring to in Edmonton are apparently from , I think, Poplar trees that are budding out and they release the bud jackets which are furry and white, like feathers, or, to me, looked like dandelion seedlings flying through the air, but THICK !!!
Not snow :-)
Here's a link to the story
http://www.edmonton.ca/environmental/conservation_landscaping/white-poplar-fluff.aspx

Yep .. BDay day .. just waiting on the folks to arrive, may scoot in and give my butt a break from this wchair .. it suits Lorna, but not me .. actually, it doesn't like my hip :-(

Toodles

~M~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wow, what an amazing day, sunny and 25C!

Bday party was a success, my only faux pas was sitting up too long, paying for it today.
Today is a Lorna and her Mom day . Lorna is taking her Mom for a perm, and her Dad will come out here.
Ordering Chinese food for supper.
Right now I am laying on the bed behaving..have been told I look tired ,l am.

Hope everyone is well, M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Week is going by "M" soon Lorna's parents will be home and you will be mending!

Did Lorna's mom cry when she opened your gift?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Yes she did .. then she said it was too much .. but, in the end they accepted the gift graciously .. they are VERY gracious folk.
Her Dad is stretched out in the Lazy Boy right now, Smokey stretched out with him LoL, having a wee snooze.
Lorna called from the hairdressers and she may take her Mom in early :-)
Called to put the order for the Chinese Food in, have to wait til 4pm .. they are on SUMMER hours now .. ahh well ..

I got to read 2 chapters of my book, which I am loving

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1278752.The_House_At_Riverton

Just having some time, while up, on the computer as opposed to the Playbook.

Take care all ...

Waving hello to Susan .. miss ya

Hi All
I have the pleasure of showing you the Dandy Dan from Carol's Garden that I picked yesterday, the anniversary of her passing.
How lovely it was to have her visit me there.
I will post in the Peony thread too.

Oh my Ann, how beautiful ! I colour is stunning.
What a wonderful remembrance of Carol.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Hopefully you aren't getting all the rain, just the white fluffies ^_^

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

How absolutely breathtaking! her way of saying 'summer is here' take care.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Fall has decided to pay Thunder Bay a visit. Blustery and cool, but, thankfully none of the precipitation being experienced in the west.
Too bad Susan isn't on board anymore to give us an update on Calgary.

Going to be a leftovers day today, and, likely a few spirited card games.
Supper last evening was awesome. Great Chinese food which is why we have leftovers, but so much, also have some burgers left from the BBQ on Tuesday...no lack of choice

The perm was a big success. Lorna's Mom was so happy.

Getting pretty dark here, I best try to make my way to the kitchen.

I guess I can officially wish everyone a Happy Summer. :)

M

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, summer has come into my neck of the woods in good form, beautiful out there..

So glad you are enjoying the visit "M"' lordy they will be on their way home soon, time does fly when you are having fun.

I dropped into post office this mornimg on my way back from grocery store, two thank you cards from the girls who were here last month from Cincinnatti saying what a wonderful time they had and just how much was seen in one week..so glad they enjoyed!

walked the ground a few times and took photo's..although not many flowers are saying hello I know that in a few weeks I will be ohh'ing and ahh'ing..
Must go get some annuals for the planters, sad I haven't gotten to it yet, primarily because of the weather.

I will so enjoy working from home today,NOT looking forward to later this aft when I get off work, my dear Aunt Muriel was given bad news yesterday, last night she called, asked if I could come over and pick a few things as a remembrance of her time here on earth..she is very dear to me, my Mother's only sister. Big sigh

Nothing like leftovers, especially Chinese..I've left over stew that has to be thrown away, every time I open refrigerator I smell turnip and cabbage, as always made enough for 10 when I was but one.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Few photo's taken this a.m. in the back yard

think Missy thinks birds on the bench are real..she's a hunter, bet she is disappointed
