I will have to go look for that! Thanks!

Warning: More colon talk... :)
Ok, I'll chime in here. My mom and her mom had diverticulitis/losis. As a matter of fact, my mom had one burst (infection) the day of my dad's funeral. I thought I was going to lose both parents at the same time :( But she had surgery and a temp colostomy, which was reversed eventually. Maternal grandfather had colon CA. So, I'm with you with the bad genes! Already had 2 colonoscopies--all okay! Now you and everyone who reads this knows my private business :) But if anyone has questions about anything, they can certainly ask me. Just D-mail.
Hey girls, my mystery vine has started blooming, I sent in a request for an i.d. and got one, and I know where it came from too. It is a Canavalia gladiata, or sword bean. Apparently it comes from India and with proper prep can be eaten. But I also read that it can be toxic so I am just going to enjoy it. Some have purple flowers, but ours will be pale pink. AND THEY SMELL WONDERFUL!
Can't wait for more to bloom, they are climbing up one side of the front steps and are threatening to close them off. I could see these making a "fort" for kids, or covering a pergola.
Seedpicker must have given it to me at the spring RU over a year ago. Or someone who got them from her. Oh well, I am happy to know what it is and to have plenty of seed. Did I mention that they smell great? Lol.
Im so excited for you Joy. I googled my finger off on that and never found it. Im also looking forward to planting the seeds you gave me last year, especially now that you know its name and that it smells good.
The funny thing is that I kept saying it was Jack's beans, the way it grows, it could be a proverbial beanstalk. Several sites referred to it as a sword or Jack bean. So I am not crazy. Here is a comparison of hyacinth bean, butterfly pea and my Jack/sword bean leaves. I guess I could say that I am just that good of a gardener, not.
Thanks for the name Joy! That sure is pretty!
Wonder if I started some now, they would mature before it gets cold?
I planted these the week after our spring RU so it's been four months, four more would be November and possibly a frost. You can give it a try, I should have bunches more seed this fall.
That is beautiful and I know I definitely want seeds :)
I am heading to CA on Thursday to judge a sheepdog trial and will be doing some sight seeing on Friday. One of my favorite stops is the Petaluma Seed Bank, a treasure trove of organic heirloom seeds, books and other fun gardening things. If anyone would like something from there, let me know. I have grown some neat things from them. It was fun to visit after receiving their catalog for years.

Hey, it's great to know the name of my vine from you now, Joy. Mine is much slower to flourish. It may not like the full sun location it's in, although it's behind my Duranta. I'll check it for buds when I go out later today :)
Thanks for the b-day wishes. I told my little story on the birthday forum. Just to let you all know, I was just diagnosed with endometrial cancer last Thurs and am waiting to hear from a gyn oncologist to set up appt and surgery. Everything should be okay after that
So, if you're a prayin' person, say a few for my family and me. Thanks :)
Janet
Oh, Janet. That is a terrible birthday present. I guess it IS good to know you have it now and can take it out. Im sending get well wishes your way, eough to get you started on recovery even before the surgery. Let me know if I can help. Marty.
Sending lots of prayers for you too! Keep us posted please?
Janet, we are sending all sorts of good thoughts and prayers your way. Yes, please keep us posted.
My vine is in full sun, but it is in a bed that gets a lot more water than I give my duranta. Mine isn't a prolific bloomer, in fact I hit it with some Epsom salts about 4 weeks ago. Haven't seen a single seed pod either.
Good luck in your surgery.
Joy
Janet please let us know if there is anything
can do.
Thanks for the birthday wishes :)
Janet,
Will be praying for complete healing for you, and strength for your family.
So glad they caught it at an early stage. That makes a lot of difference.
Thank you, sweeties. The hard part is waiting. If I don't hear from that doc's office in 2 days, I'm calling!
J
Janet, How are you doing?
Yes Janet how is it going? If you need anything let us know please.
Thanks, you wonderful friends. I should be in bed!
Well, the saga continues. My surgery date is Sept. 23rd. I need medical clearance for that so went to my primary care doc. He did an EKG and it has changed since my last one. I went to a cardiologist Thurs and he got the same results :( So, Monday I go get an echocardiogram--basically an ultrasound of the heart and next week, the 17th, get a stress test. Oh brother. On top of this, my stomach as flared with GERD, so I'm off my antiinflammatories for my arthritis and just tonight I noticed, due to the discomfort around my down below, that I appear to have "something" red, bumpy and hurting. So I'll call my GYN Monday. I hope it's something easy like a yeast infection. I'm REALLY getting tired on this "one thing after another"! I got my chest X-ray and I swear if they see a shadow...heh, heh. I'm keeping my spirits up. Still plugging along. Thanks for caring :)
I need to get rid of all my potted plants, at least the ones I can't plant in beds. So, I'll have lots for the roundup!
Goodnight, plant peeps!
So sorry to hear you are going through so many problems! Will will keep you in our prayers!
Ouch Janet, I am sorry to hear that. We will keep sending good thoughts your way!
Ok guys, I am very torn about this RU. I let others choose this weekend based on their schedules and now more are saying they can't make it. I can easily shift the date one weekend earlier, Saturday October 12, or Sunday October 13. Or I can go into November and do the 9th or 10th. The problem is that I am getting no feedback. I will shoot this out to everyone in a blast and in the other threads to see if we can maybe work a better date.
Please speak up,
Joy

Joy, I sent you a dmail. Darn DH and his races out of area! :(
Janet if there is anything I can do please let me know. I would even be willing to foster your plants till spring. Just lmk and David and I can come get them. Winter at my house is heck on my plants but would do the very best to keep them healthy. I do however have David here to help cover my greenhouse so it should be the best year yet.
Joy I sent you an dmail.
