Third weekend should be great! Dream about the cooler weather...
I'd love if you crafty people would do show and tell! I'm recently into crafts and only need ideas now.
Can't wait to meet up again :) Miss you, Linda!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

As far as I know, the third weekend is good for me.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Joy-Am thinking the smaller crinum may be a hymenocallis, white spider lily. Most think normal bloomtime is on 4th July. I paln on fall attendance, will simply need to know a date firm to arrange the route to get home...already know I will be digging some amaryllis to bring, chuckle

There is kitchen towel swap open, come and check it out!

All right guys I have a couple ideas to do a crafty session for our gardens at the RU. I was visiting the garden art forum and now have a good idea for a bird feeder that is functional and neat looking at the same time. Lonejack said we could share her idea. What a fun project!

YAY!!!!!

Can we make a birdbath, too? Anyone have any DIY plans?

I desperately need one/two/three for my property!

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh!!!! It would be so much fun if we had a little DIY project!!!! I vote for that!!!

Also, I vote for 3rd weekend in October! 1st is ACL (of course, we're still deciding if we're going) 2nd we will be in NY for DH marathon.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

I would love to do a DIY project! I need a bird feeder. I did a birdbath out of a lamp. They are loving it!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Birdbath would be great! I can't feed the birds anymore because RATS come from the neighbors yard and eat what drops . YUCK! Hubby and I saw them one evening.
I have lots of paint colors, colored wire, beads and other stuff I can share. I also have some small lamps. Just let me know what kinds of materials we'd need for various projects and I can start collecting...

If ya'll bring some old pre-painted bowling balls, we can finish up some LADYBUGS!

http://www.birdsandblooms.com/Backyard-Projects/Garden-Crafts/Bowling-Ball-Bugs/

Since the paint needs to be dry, I would suggest bringing your balls already painted with the base primer coat and enough coats of red to suit your fancy.

Then, we can paint/stipple the middle line and the dots on each ball, and paint the wooden knobs for the antennae. We'll need to paint early, so the balls'll be dry enough by the time we leave.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Gymgirl, that is so cute wish I had a bowling ball.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Uh,
I got mine from the Houston Freecycle folks. Just ask around for an old dusty ball! Or ask the bowling lanes if they have some old ones they plan on retiring.

Mine was a porch pickup, complete with the bag, LOL!

This is a bee watering station and a birdbath I made. The birdbath was going to have moss all over it but I move to TX so that's not happening.

Well, you can still get string algae in Texas, chuckle, and green SOMETHING that needs scrubbed...those are well done...

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Those are really cool, now I know what to do so I can have a butterfly or bee watering place. Thanks for sharing.

Fort Worth, TX

put vinegar in your birdbath and you won't have algae. But if it is concrete the vinegar will eat it.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Did yall see that bird bath Joy showed us a while back? The basin looked like a watermelon. It was the coolest thing Ive seen in a while!!

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Gypsi thanks for the tip.

steadycam3 thanks for pointing that out. Joy those birdbaths are awesome!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Will vinegar affect the birds?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Apple cider vinegar is natural, makes water more acid but wont faze the animal life as long as you dont use the whole bottle at once.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Marty, here is my vine from the giant seeds I gave you. It is showing no signs of blooming but is growing very fast. I may try some Epsom salt on the ground if we get some rain this week. Then I can have the three pictures that might get me an ID from fellow DG'ers.
I planted my butterfly pea vine on the other side of the stairs along with some rescue cream peas, but I am thinking it will be extremely lopsided by RU.

I have one of my mystery giant seeds growing also. Can't wait to see the blooms :)

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Keep me posted. Is yours growing crazy? If I get a decent number of blooms, this would be gorgeous as an arbor plant.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Joy, I did not get any large seeds from you. My giant seed turned out to be a burr oak that I got in a pot of daylily.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

These guys were in my yard last week. Spicebush Swallowtail and Zebra Swallowtail. Love seeing butterflies.

Those are beautiful!

Joy, how is the shoulder doing?

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

I finally got to start strength training yesterday and for the most part it was a breeze. Of course that is because I have been naughty and been using my arm to some extent on the farm. For example, today after the rain I thought I would turn the bed on the east side of the house that had potatoes earlier. Not hard work, but really makes my shoulder muscles scream. Now I am sitting with a hot sock on my neck to loosen the knots (and my headache).
Therapist says I am doing great and hopefully will be released in about a month. Still can't play the piano though. LOL.
Oh, and I found a row of potatoes we never dug up. Three buckets worth.

BTW, how are you?

Nice find Joy! Hope you heal quickly. Pretty blue flower what's the name?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Joy,
You have a piano?

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

That is my butterfly pea vine that I picked up last fall on a trip to Antique Rosé Emporium with Careyana. I planted it a couple weeks ago as part of my personal goal to get the number of wannabe yard plants down to a manageable level. I know this is a horrible time to plant, but with my surgery I am giving it a try. So far I am concentrating on my front beds that have soaker hoses and it is working.
Here is one of my milkweeds that is glad to be out of a pot.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

No, that is the old joke: Doctor to patient, "Looks like you will make a complete recovery."
Patient to doctor, "But will I be able to play my piano?"
Doctor, " why of course!"
Patient, " That is great! I never could before."

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL Joy...nice milkweed...the bees will love ya.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Joy, I got a good bill of health from the specialist. he told me I will always have diverticulitis, and I just need to watch what I eat!

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Hooray! My mom has dealt with diverticulitis for years with good success. Her biggest complaint was no strawberries.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yeah, I have to watch what I eat, things with small seeds, like tomato's, strawberries... Is a no no.

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

CORN will get you, too... My mom had it...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yep, corn too. Seems to be all my favorite foods! Funny how you talk about this, and almost everyone had had it or knows someone else that does!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Have it. reduce fibers, find a probiotic that helps digestion, and for me at least, I am also lactose intolerant, but if I do indulge I get an infection everytime from dairy in my diet. Good luck with yours.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

They told me after my colonoscopy I have one diverticuli. But I do have IBS and k never know from day to day what will set it off. I can eat something two days in a row and second day it will tear me up. Nasty thing to have

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Because I am everywhere, my diet cannot be controlled, IBS quit when I cut ALL dairy, but when it flares, well. I cant do activia, so this is what I did. and it is the bar one best move I ever did. May not be the best or mostest, but it helps me be able tokeep up wit this job.
