Good to "see" you, Wynne!
That one is Gorgeous!!!
Gardens Gems Purchased for 2013 PT 2
That is stunning!
Lamiastrum (yellow archangel) is indestructible at my late mother's house in Southampton. The deer don't touch it and it has spread even though there is no irrigation in the back wooded area where it is growing. The deer had completely annihilated all understory and groundcover plants there, both native and introduced, so a little green is welcome.
Beautiful Wayne.
try to stick to natives as much as I can.. but thanks for the info
have all these plants to get in from the swap.. and my santa rosa order... rain until thursday.. ugh soggy boggy
Possibly, Bill, but never saw any mildew last year.
Pretty pieris...like the silver leaves.....
Wynne it's nice to see you again. :) That is gorgeous!!!!
wow no one's bought anything since May???
I have :)
a couple hosta and a nice little dwarf yellow/green conifer - think there were a couple jm's too - Cindy and Jordan
I bought 3 more Cajun Hibiscus, 3 tiny Snow Fairy Caryopteris, 3 Raspberry Dazzle Crape Myrtle, 2 White Ghost Weigela, 2 Red Wing Virburnum, 5 Clematis, 3 Royal Red Butterfly Bushes, 4 of : Mandevilla Rita, 3 of : Salvia nemorosa Lyrical Rose and a bunch of other stuff. Filling in a spot where I previously had lots of Oriental and Asiatic Lilies.
Irises have arrived from several growers, mainly dwarfs--working on getting them planted.
I planted some new iris....standards, though......Dats Da One, Great Gatsby, Wishful Thinking, & some spuria, Sonoran Caballero, & Bali Bali.... Also bought 3 interesting salvias to catch the late hummers.....Gosh, Bill, glad to see you finally bought Cindy!

Brushwoods nursery is having a half price sale, so I ordered several arctic kiwis to plant on a partially sunny part of my fence next spring. Lot's of hard to resist clematis too.
Friday I visited Bloomingfield's Daylily Farm in Gaylordsville. Wow! What a treat! Diana Bristol is a pleasure to work with, and helped me zero in on some great choices. I ended up buying 5, all long and/or late bloomers in shades of mulberry, lavender, and pink with yellow accents. They don't dig while you're there, and will mail free within a week, but I'm picking them up in 2 weeks. I got
Olallie Mack, Postlude, Mulberry Sherbet, Late Flair, and Lavender Orchid- and I even know where they're going!. Very exciting!
Now I have to look at Brushwood...
Very nice choices, Pam...have never been to that farm, but now I'm thinking about it! Can't go to the Brushwood site, I have no willpower! I need to save money to take with me to Rochester....my niece always takes me to some lovely plant nurseries.
I just acquired Empress Wu the giant hosta, who only has 4 leaves at the moment. More splendor to come.
Martha
Is that a gigantic hosta?
Yep. Mine still looks like an ordinary hosta after two years.
Wow....look wonderful, Pam!
Getting a few Fall catalogs....I didn't even get everything planted I received in May at Jan's RU, LOL
Mine are coming in too. Last week it was bulb catalogs. Yesterday, Bluestone and Old House Gardens looked really good, and Rarefind has a native plant sale for fall. Summer means you can see why there is a plant craving by looking at the gaps in the garden.
have the cat's arriving here as well - so far all have gone into the recycle bin
Most are in my bathroom to read while I am keeping my daughter company while she takes a bath
I usually hang on to Bluestone as interesting reading. I really have to find something which blooms late summer & doesn't mind shade.
irisMA: Please let me know when you find it!!!
Iris, the lobelias are nice this time of year...I have a purple one blooming now, hardy here, I've had it 3-4 years....also saw a gorgeous Ruby Slippers lobelia blooming in Rochester....I bought a Revolution hydrangea while visiting my niece & JoAnn.......
I agree, lobelia Siphilitica is wonderful. We lost our PG Hydrangea which had shaded it this year (Sandy cracked the trunk at the base) and I was worried about too much sun on the Lobelia, so I planted a lot of tall annuals very close to it. It hasn't skipped a beat! This pic is last week, it was just starting to bloom. It has volunteered in several other places in the garden, but this plant has been here since well before I arrived 7 years ago.
Thank you for the suggestions. Bluestone is here, I will look for some of the plants.
Just came back from three wonderful weeks in Burlington Vermont visiting daughter and Grands. Even the clouds are better there!
Picked up some new to the market echis called 'Cheyenne Spirit'. Any of you trying them?
I bought plants but they are a seed grown variety and have won FleuroSelect and other awards. Territorial and Johnnys have seeds. I love the color mix.
We MISSED you, dear!!!
Those are beautiful together! Will have to try them for next year.
lol, I bought the plants because they called to me and they whispered 'save some of my seeds'!
Have no idea where the seeds are or how to save them! Any help appreciated. (They are supposed to bloom from seed first year!)
The seeds are left when the petals drop....they are in the cone.......pick & shake into a Mason jar with a tight cover....keep cool & dry.
Very pretty mix!
Definitely worth saving the seeds for next year. Pretty colors.
Seed saving it is! Hopefully the seeds will come somewhat 'true'. Even if not, I like coneflowers. Was thinking how nice a swath of these would be. They are also supposed to be good in containers.
