Great blue flower.....how hardy is it?
annual .. not at all
I'm getting a bunch of liners from a co-op- 40 in all, some new introductions. Heucherellas Copper Cascade, Buttered Rum, Heucheras Zipper, Honey Rose, Sedum Marina, Echinacea Vanilla Cupcake. They should be here within the next couple of weeks, I think. The H Copper Cascade, in particular, has me excited, just gorgeous foliage in the pics.

Wonderful list, Pam! I bought some iris yesterday.....two spurias, Sonoran Caballero & BaliBali and 3 TBI, Dats Da One, Great Gatsby, & Wishful Thinking all from Commanche Acres.....
Love those Heuchs
I can not say enough nice things about Bluestone
I know they are smallish plants but if I ever have a problem they replace them. Everything is pretty much out of ground by now so I did a tour and noticed some that didn't come back, out of 3 plants 2 or 1 came back, they are replacing all of them....1 hosta(it was discontinued so they asked what I'd like as a sub), 2 dianthus, 2 campanula, 2nd time for a viola so I asked if I could just get something else and they agreed(replaced with a primula)...I just LOVE them!
I agree. Last year I had 2 separate delivery issues thanks to Fedex, and Bluestone immediately replaced everything. This spring I had a back-ordered Daphne arrive dried out and dead. When I called, I mentioned that I knew they'd had trouble with the new packaging early on, but that I'd thought it was fixed. I was immediately transferred to a supervisor who thanked me for the input. She said that last year they did special training and set up watering stations to make sure plants arrived in good shape. She not only replaced the Daphne immediately, but also 3 Veronica from last spring that didnt come back this year. She also asked me to email her directly when I got the replacements, specifically about the moisture in the soil. I don't think anyone could ask for more than that! And the plants aren't all that small for mail order, and for the price.
The prices are great and they always have sales and coupons
I do order from them...my tangerine geum came from them, & it's great.
So did mine
Yours were my inspiration, Pam!
Just got back from
Fairweather Gardens. Their first ever half-price sale day. Glad I got there at 9. It was getting crazy when I left an hour later.
I did some shopping for people coming to the swap next Saturday at my house.....then I got a few goodies myself
Acer palmatum 'villa Taranto. Thanks for your pic wha it inspired me
Viburnum carlesii 'cayuga'
Sincalycanthus Aphrodite
Athyrium 'ghost'
Rhododendron austrinum 'earl's gold'
Athyrium filix-femina 'cruciatum'.
Nice, Jan! Have fun planting.
Didn't even have a chance to check the catalog to see if I wanted something....maybe I'll stop there first before coming to your house next week IDK???
nice jan! thank victor I got mine when I saw a pic of his several years ago.
I am sure he will update the web site to show what is still available. Supply of many things was very limited, so some items were already sold out when I got there soon after nine. Many people had carts that were overflowing.
Amazing what pics will do to inspire people!!
I bought a Dwarf McIntosh and Dwarf Bartlett Pear Tree at HD, what an impulse buy! Now I am having buyers remorse because I read that it isn't a good idea to buy trees from there because they don't label what rootstock they use and it may not do well here (or anywhere for that matter!) Ugh now I am considering a return! Anyone have luck with their fruit trees? The ones I got look like nice healthy well branched specimens, it was just so tempting instead of ordering unbranched whips or taking the chance on spending double on a little tiny thing from a catalog.
Never bought trees from HD.....if they were expensive, return them...if not, give them a try.
never bought anything more than an azalea from HD... but sometimes those fruit trees catch my eye.. no sun no room usually wins over my impulse.. but I am sure they will take them back.. they take everything back
I am not familiar with the Dwarf Bartlett pear but the Bartlets in this neighborhood started to literally fall apart after 15 years.
Branches fell on cars parked under them. They seem to split apart without warning, many neighbors are cutting theirs down
.As an ornament when in bloom they are lovely. After two weeks they are a mess of blossoms dropping on walkways and driveways and tracking into the house.
I guess care as to where you plant yours is what I am trying to say.
I also want to interject the River Birch is also a pain in the you know where.
Its constantly dropping small limbs in winter storms and catkins follow in spring, then the bloom casings. This tree is next to the garage and I am constantly sweeping the driveway tokeep the mess from tracking into the house.
Not a "garden" gem but a gem nonetheless...FINALLY!!!! ordered our pool...YAY finally wore hubby down.... woo hoo!!!
great jen
Meredith just return the trees if you are unsure. plenty of nurseries have fruit trees so you will know what you are getting.
Thanks everyone, I was going to plant them near the back of the yard, so the mess wouldn't be too bad. My DH was excited about them and because he isn't a gardener like us he doesn't get the whole quality issue with rootstock that I am worried about. He won't be too happy if I return them.. So I may have to keep them and have a live and learn mentality with them.. I was hoping someone would be like, "Oh I got some there and they are wonderful, to make me feel better! lol, guess not. " ;)
Jen, I also meant to say that is wonderful! I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Meredith,That location sounds perfect.Good luck with your plans.
Good news, Jen...the kids will be happy!
Thanks Joann!! :)
