Chat and swap thread for The RU at Jan23's on May 18th

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

I just read the haves/wants threads - wow, what a lot of stuff! Here is a few things that caught my eye:

Paul, I'm always interested in lily of the valley so I'd love to have some of what you are offering

Coleup - ostrich fern and more bleeding heart (received a few from you last year).

Holly - pink octopus and virginia blue bells

Happy - anemone hadspen abundance

I just added stachys 'humelo' to my haves.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Holly, I almost forgot to ask for those lovely Sweet Cream Marigolds that I've gotten from you for the past couple of years. They're one of my favorites!

Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

May I make a few requests?
Wind, may I have a Flaming Feather and flowering tobacco?
Gita, a datura and a few zinnias?
Holly, alyssum and bacopa ?
SSGardener, some of the sedums please.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ok think I got everyone marked down.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Robin--OK! Do you have a color preference in the Datura? Purple/white--or yellow???

Zinnias? Ir--just take pot luck. Most of them are tall. There are 2 that are lower .

Bedtime....Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Gital I would like some Chrysanthemum Pacificum and that pretty two toned AV baby if you still have them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Jan are we having a gift table?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Somehow I "unwatched," so I'll have to scroll up and catch up!

Meanwhile..

Donnerville, if you have enough Brunnera, I'd love a start of it. I put in a Pulmonaria last year, and I'll see how well it's doing this spring... it might be next year before I can get you a good piece of it.

Buttoneer, if you could send a piece of your Yellow bleeding heart and your False celandine poppy with Holly, I'd appreciate it. I've got some crooked willow cuttings stuck, and I also just found a Kerria japonica rooted cutting among my nursery pots... I think I gave you one; did it do OK, or do you need another?

Ohh ohh to all!!
I would be interested in any odd bleeding hearts. I have the normal and the alba. I had a fringed from a trade last year but I don't see it. I've been staring at the reds for some time and come to think of it I recd squirrel corn too last year. If anybody has odd balls from that family let me know. I would gladly take seed too

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Donner, I'd love some acorus. Is it the yellow variety?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly--

I really do not know which AV is which--or if they are all the same.

Like i said--I trimmed back one of them--and rooted the leaves.
I cannot say which on it is, as none of mine have bloomed for over a year.
That windowsill must be a killer......

What if I just give you one--and it will be pot-luck? This weekend?? We still on?
Will dog up some of the Chrysanthemum. Pacificum for you too.

Gita

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gita, this is a good time to cut your lavender back, when it's just starting to put out new growth (ideally, DeBaggio said to cut it back just before it starts growing in spring, but I find that a bit hard to anticipate most years LOL).

SSG, were you offering the trellised planters themselves? Did anybody speak up them yet? I'd love something from her garden... clematis, climbing rose.. just one "something" from whatever you don't have a place for. I'm waiting for my 'John Crech' sedum to wake up... I grew it into a big pot before planting it out, so I think it should have done fine over the winter, but if not I'll have to hit you up for another piece. And I'd love another start of 'Angelina', please.

Wind, if you still have some extras, I'd love a Chocolate Cherry Tomato please, and Joyanna would doubtless love an eyeball plant.

Jan, I can put your friend Patti's name on a 6-pack of mixed heirloom tomatoes. Does she want hot peppers, or just sweet?

ZD climbing rose.. looks like I'll just get a few cuttings from her this spring, so I'm crossing fingers as to rooting. Got Happy & Terp down for their requests.

Aspenhill, I would love a Korean lilac 'Palabin'! I remember your telling me about its wonderful fragrance.

Terp, are you interested in Hibiscus syriacus (rose of sharon)? There are usually a few volunteers here.. I'll check.

I put in 3 little Duetzia 'Chardonnay Pearls' last year, and the rabbits (?) pruned them to nearly nothing over the winter. They're putting out new growth, though -- talk about survivors! Oh, and speaking of survivors... Pat, one of your red azaleas is definitely coming back, and another has a few leaves!

Gita, my fig cuttings didn't make it. One never rooted, and the other (the "bush" one I think) had some roots and the start of a new leaf bud when I took it inside (nestled into the pot that also holds my sweet bay)... I'm pretty sure it stayed moist with that arrangement, but its tip died back.

Onewish & others... This swap is at a good time for sharing seeds of anything that can be direct-sown, too... I'll bring some of the mixed Celosia seed that we harvested at Catoctin Orchard last fall (definitely including Flamingo Feather as well as some interesting peach and yellow ones).

Does anybody have Coleus 'Fishnet Stockings' to share? I've got a few cuttings of others, will see what is "extra" at swap time, but I definitely lost this one -- and it's a favorite. Thanks!

Critter: I'd love crooked willow cuttings and Kerria japonica cuttings if you have them (I keep killing the latter -- maybe it is a romance that just isn't to be).

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill, I'm afraid Becky's trellised planters are taken.

The climbing roses are still available! One of them isn't doing too well but at least one is putting on new growth. I think there might be a third rose there. I'm still waiting for things to pop up so I can ID them and pot them up. I was hoping to get the clematis ID'd first, so I'm waiting for them to bloom this year. Becky's chocolate vines are still available.

My John Creech has already woken up and is growing. It's from the healthy part of the garden and already potted up, so it's no trouble for me to bring you an extra. I'll get you more Angelina.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

sorry Jill.. no fishnet stockings.. never had luck with them

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

another fav coleus is "kiwi fern" ... I'd love a start of that one if anyone has it. I think it's the rippling edges like on the Inky Fingers that I just love.

... Also, I added climbing hydrangea to our haves list

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have kiwi fern Wind

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Wind, ssgardener and I would each like a climbing hydrangea. Are these rooted cuttings?

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Onewish, will you have some of the two kinds of plectantru you shared last year. If so, I'd like one of each. also what ever coleus you can share Do you want cuttings from any coleus I have that you do not?

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Onewish, I would loooooooooove a kiwifern!! TY

Coleup: natural layering propagation on the climbing hydrangea. I'll be glad to pot up plants for you and SSgardener.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

Woohoo, thank you Wind for the hydrangea! Thanks for asking for me Coleup!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I have different types this year and sure you know I always want to share coleus.. here is my list
http://cubits.org/myspot/thread/view/73696/

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Wind, Are you going to use the 'soda bottle' method? I've got plenty of bottles. Thanks.

SS always glad to keep my eyes peeled for plants you might like! I know you and Donner will enjoy the 'Blue Billow' woodland Hydrangeas. I love mine, Here it stays low and spreads out horizontally 4 - 5 feet. Another plant you might consider that UMD Terp is offering is the Nandina if it is the taller form. Mine grows on the edge of my "rain garden" where it gets downspout water and hose bib leaks! And they will grow in full shade, too. I could probably wrestle an offshoot of mine if Paul's doesn't fit the bill. Oh, if your cactus soil (Tapla's gritty mix) is good for sedum/semp dish gardens I need a bunch. And Angelina and John Creech please.

Anyone interested in doing a 'group buy' of assorted sedum/semps?

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Nice Allison/Onewish!

SSgardener I would be interested in your self watering pots. Can you do a pic?

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill, I will pass on the rose of Sharon thank you!!!

Thanks for the advertisement coleup. I need to find homes for these guys.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I have a few of this coleus. It has the same type of edge not sure what it is.

donnerville I would love an Easter Egg Plant.. they were neat the one year I grew them.. would be nice to have the seeds for next year

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Coleup (and everyone else I've heard from so far) -- I've got you covered -- with the possible exception of Blue Satin just for the moment -- I can't figure out which shrub it is!!!! I'm sure it is there, but until it leafs out I'm at a loss!

Coleup -- could I please try your hydrangea? I just love them.

Terp -- I'd love your Nandina if no one else claims it and you really want to get rid of them -- they do great in the shade and I need to fill up the back of my yard this year.... but I've already been greedy.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

HollyAnn, that is one wild and crazy coleus lol. I've never met a coleus I didn't like!

Coleup, I'll email my neighbor and ask her if she needs any bottles, thank you!

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Ooops, Wind, you did mean the plastic soda bottles, didn't you? That's what I have.

Happy, I am not the one who jad Blue Billows to share...If there aren't any left from person Donner and SS made requests I'll see if mine has 'touched down' somewhere and is putting out roots!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Gotch, Coleup. The Limelight Hydrangea will be just a cutting, though. Haven't been able to root anything because there's not much new growth showing yet.

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Hi Coleup, yes, the plastic bottles. I'm waiting to hear from my neighbor. I just asked her if she needed any.

Also, I'm adding Sweet William 'Sooty' dianthus to our list if anyone wants to try it. hopefully the seeds come true. I got the seeds from a DG swap and they seem to have good germination.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

BTW, I have many many stretchy net bags -- Santa Rosa uses them to cover its plants in shipping. If you'd like any, let me know. I can get the dimensions -- off-hand I'd say they are 3" x 10". They are great for bulb storage and the like....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I forgot to say there would be a gift table if interested in participating. So many things to remember. Heehee

Critter, I think Patti would like both sweet and hot. She moved into an apartment, but is able to grow things out about 3'. Most of her things will be in containers.

Loves topaint is coming and has asked if anyone has spearmint to share.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Jan23: I have some spearmint -- I can see if it'll root before then.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, happy. Woohoo!!!

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

HM, Paul's nandina is all yours! I like how they look but don't have a good spot for them right now.

Whew, I haven't been feeling well and can't keep track of the trades right now. I hope I'm not missing anything.

Holly, I'd love a start of the coleus!

Coleup, let me look for an online pic of the self watering pots. My *$#@% phone won't transfer any pics right now. I'm bringing a big container (4 gallon?) of the cactus soil again so you could take as much as you want with you.
