Certainly, Sheila. How many of each can you use?
2013 N Central TX RU April 21st in Arlington #2 TRADE
Wow! you girls are really hot, this is wonderful!!
If there is an orphaned flame acanthus and I can plant it in the GROUND, I would like one. Keeping potted plants alive is not my forte'
I am going to have an extra flame acanthus too (presuming it lives when I dig it up).
Sounds like we need a table where we can just put extra leftover plants no one has asked for, that we don't want to take home. Did that at the ET RU one year and all that stuff disappeared in 5 minutes.
Can I swap something for that flame acanthus so I actually have spoken for it?
I've been at swaps where there was an "orphan's table" before, & it was nice.
To be sure everyone got an equal chance, we had everyone wait until the end & then each person went through & took one plant, then we started over again.
Gypsi, you talking to me? Sure.
Boy, we were never that civilized in the NE Forum!
Patricia....Two if you don't have them promised. Can't have enough MW at a Monarch Waystation!
On the Orphan plants.... Usually after our initial deliveries are made and safely under the tables, anything that is on top of the table can be traded for. Some new people don't have much and to those we are all willing to gift more to.
Then after the trading dies down, anything on top the tables that is left is free game; but the taking turns seems less intimidating for those too shy to ask. What say the rest of you?? Should we start a new tradition?? I remember in Jacksonville everyone carried what they didn't want to take home to the sidewalk and we called the orphan walk. :o))
LOL! @Carrie

Yeah, the orphan walk is what I was remembering. That's where I got your entire can of EE's, Sheila, only I didn't know the can was full and planted the whole thing. LOL! I put about 3 dozen cones out there that no one had asked for, and they were blooming, and they just went swoosh, somewhere else.
I think the taking turns thing sounds nice. I dunno about everyone, but I don't do a lot of trades at the RU. I'd rather visit. Anyway, for the newbies, I don't have much room left, so nothing needed in return. I have a garden-ful of gorgeous plants mostly because of people here, and I'm thrilled to have people to pass them to who will enjoy them. So, if you want it, just ask.
Yes PB, I was talking to you, but on the phone and text messaging at the same time (I think) It was a crazy day for the phones around here. Anyway, what can I trade you for a flame acanthus? I think I have a few things not spoken for.
I like the take turns idea, but I'm a new-bie. Since snowflakes are so scarce I think I am going to break mine down in to "packs" of 2 or 3, and try to get a few, they are a good trade item. I still have a couple of lantana left too I think, All potted up and going. And of course a LOT of iris.
I sort of like wandering around looking at the leftovers. Sometimes I see something new and get the chance to ask about it.
I'm looking forward to this. I've never been
Thanks for the frostweed, Sheila.
So, no one remembers giving me those bright orange flowers last year?? Are they some kind of daisy?
Also, remember that I have those gal pots (4) of that cute Mother of Thousands.
My favorite is to walk around to different people's tables and just ask questions about all the different plants I see. Then I can take pictures and make notes for next time. I found Root Beer Plants that way.
Angel
Do I need to bring a table?
This park has lots of tables. We've always had plenty of room for plants and eating without bringing any extra tables.
Sasparillo type root beer plants? Hmmmmm they smell so good.
Pat, I have the Brazilian verbena for you. Dennis, I will have to check if the potted yucca can be divided, otherwise you'll have to wait till next RU. I ended up bringing my extra down to Austin for my son's new house.
Gypsi, it's not necessary to trade me anything. You're already bringing me a peach iris and I'm thrilled about that. BUT, if you have any of the blue-eyed grass left, I have a good spot for one. After 7 years mine is looking a little peaked and I was just thinking I need to replant.
Dennis, I have a small potted yucca, would you like to have it?
PB, If the blue-eyed grass is wild iris - I'm looking for it, I lost mine when I moved 12 years ago.
Sylvia and Gypsi I have a flame acanthus for you. I have one left, any takers?
I would like it, Newton. Do I have anything you would like in trade?
Thanks, Josephine, I would like it if it is unclaimed.
The yucca is your Dennis.
Josephine, if no one else has asked for them, I'd love to have your Brown Turkey fig and a red turk's cap.
I will bring it for you sybram and I don't need anything for a trade.
C
GFwaco, would you like a pot of very small starts of Salvia gregii? They are the watermelon colored type.
Sure Pat, the fig and the turk's cap are yours..
Gypsi, I was talking about the sisyrinchium chilense, but I see that's on your want list, not your have list. I can bring you a little start of sisyrinchium angustifolium, if that will do instead. It will be small, though, because they all are.
Thank you, Josephine. I keeping hoping to find a Texas native for you when I'm in the pasture, but nothing new yet this spring.
Anna, thank you for the Brazilian verbena. I keep checking my cuttings for roots, but no luck yet. I probably should leave them alone. :)
Cheryl:
That would be awesome! My bff (who is coming with me) loves salvia and I am letting her share my garden with me since she doesn't have a yard this year. Thank you so much!
Angel
I don't usually have anything that I actually think I "need" but I was wondering if anyone has any mex. hat seedlings? I seem to have killed my one brown flowering plant and would love a 2 or 3 seedlings if anyone has some. I moved him last fall and apparently it was a bad idea, I will miss him.
C
Ok, so today the owner of the park we live in gave me a fantastic offer. He has about 20 or so landscaping timbers that were used on a fence. One end he said is discolored from being in the ground but other than that they are simply weathered. I have not seen them yet but if they are in decent shape I was going to use some but there will be a lot left over.
If they are in good shape would anyone be interested in them? He said they are 8 feet long. Also might have some large tomato cages but I won't know till next week.
Angel
I found lots of Mexican hat seedlings this morning! Some will likely be bi-colored; some may be all yellow. There's no way to tell until they bloom. Cheryl, I have you down for 3.
Marty, I believe you were the other person who mentioned wanting some. Is 3 a good number for you as well? I'm going to dispose of the rest of my cowpen daisies this week. You said you had found volunteers in your garden and did not need any more, but I wanted to ask again just in case.
Anybody else want Mexican hats (Ratibida columnifera)? http://www.wildflower.org/gallery/result.php?id_image=24143
I will take some too Pat, since I take care of 4 butterfly gardens I can always use natives.
I think I got my original plant from you Pat. The color doesnt matter at all. I would love and appreciate 3 of them.
Cheryl
I'll add some for you to my list, Josephine.
I hate to ask for anything since I really don't have anything to trade with (I didn't start any seeds this year and have been in cleanup, rather than propagation mode) but if you would be so kind:
Shelia, could I please have your little date tree?
Thank you,
Kate
