2013 N Central TX RU April 21st in Arlington #2 TRADE

Sylvania, GA(Zone 8b)

Patrob - any chance I could get some Mrs. Burns’ Lemon basil? I don't know if I have anything on my list you want but let me know if there is.

Angel

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

No trade needed, Angel. I'll put you down for lemon basil. Anything else? These little plants need homes! I really sprinkled the seeds in the pots, and it looks like they all came up!

Arlington, TX

Pat I would love some seedlings.
any coneflowers
A. tuberosa
batface cuphaea

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Of course, Cheryl. Two of each or can you use more? I don't believe there will be a shortage. lol I really emptied out some seed packets thinking the seeds might be old and have poor germination.

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, I'll bring you some grape hyacinth.

These are the ones I dug up at the demo site while they were blooming, so they're fading fast.

However, they'd be fading by now anyway, & the bulbs should recover for next year.

Pat, I'd love some aesclepias, any kind.

What else can I offer?

All I can think of is wood chips, quilt scraps, & glassware!

(I am having a lot of fun making some very modest garden totems, will bring those.)

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Pat, may I have a bat-face cuphea and one of your pink milkweeds? I think it was Soulmate.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll put you down for 2 of each Asclepias, Sylvia, unless you can use more.
I've got you too, Pattie, for cuphea and Asclepias Soulmate. Since these are so little, you'd better take 2 of each. :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I can't believe I didn't click on this thread until now--missing all the fun!!!!

I would like please ICE PLANTS from sybram and maybe a tomato seedling or two from Patrob. I've already killed two this year, but maybe I can make it three.

Hmmm lots of what I was given last fall is still alive but some things didn't make it and I'm not telling! I'll bring some *gifts* from Home Depot, I guess.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Carrie, got you down for ice plant.

Since I hardly know the names of any plants to ask for and have so little time to sit here and research them, would it be OK to just peruse everyone's leftovers?

I do know my 2 frostweeds didn't make it, so I would love some of that. Guess I let it thirst to death.

Fort Worth, TX

I am going to have a lot of leftovers I think. lantana, daffodils and I'm not sure if my snowflake is spoken for, plus iris

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Thank you Sybram. Somebody in Texas sent me ice plants a long time ago. They were fabulous all summer. Couldn't find them ever again.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Carrie, I'll be happy to bring some tomatoes for you. Any particular varieties or types? I have no cherry tomatoes, but there are small, medium, large, salad, slicer, and paste varieties as well as one that is especially good for drying.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the hyacinth, Sylvia.

Gypsi, I'll take any daffodils and snowflake that you have left over. I always hate having stuff left, so I wouldn't want to do that to you. :)

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Gypsi, that's good.

Fort Worth, TX

I would like to try an ice plant if anyone has one. Had to look it up, very neat!

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

That's me, Gypsie. Got you down.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Gosh! Something that is forgiving and won't die. Probably indeterminate for fresh eating, but beyond that I wouldn't know.

Can anybody use some Cumin seeds? NB: I bought these THIS year to photograph, but I would never actually grow Cumin, Cuminum cyminum. It's an annual, grows like Dill I think.

I might grow cumin, I'll try any spice once.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'll bring it, Gypsi.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

lol Carrie, you can kill any tomato if you try hard enough! I think you would like Jetsetter and Eva Purple Ball (dark red, not purple). Both are excellent for fresh eating and do well in hot weather. I guess we'll have hot weather eventually, though it may freeze again tonight. I'm glad to be behind this spring as all my seedlings are still safe inside.

Arlington, TX

I would take 3 of each then.

Fort Worth, TX

Thank you Carrie and Sybram. Let me know what you want in trade.

If someone wants to water a LOT to produce decent green beans, I have a new package of organic Kentucky Wonder beans. In drought they are inedible, and if you don't water they will still produce beans, mean spiky hard ones that pop and seed your whole garden. But if you water a lot or do a flowerpot garden on a concrete patio, they might do ok. Let me know if you want them.

The ones that went all spiky on me weren't the organic from Annie's, they were feed store seeds, and I am still pulling green beans from where they have volunteered. Going with bush beans that I can SEE all the pods on this year.

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

It is getting close to the RU! I went through everyone's lists one last time and found a few more requests:

patrob - red dragon flower, powwow enchinacea

bananna18 - hesperaloe yellow

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Cheryl, I have you for three of each.
Dennis, I've added your requests to my list. I had started an extra pot of red dragon flower, so it's ready to go!

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Oooooh, dragon flower....sounds exotic. Do you have one for me, too, Patrob?

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Sybil, it's a succulent pot plant, not hardy outside over winter. I have plenty and can start a pot for you too if you'd like it. Mine has flowered occasionally with tiny red blooms: http://wwwrockrose.blogspot.com/2009/08/unidentified-succulent.html

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Sybil, if you have enough, may I have a start of your ice plant and ,if the grandsons do the digging, one hibiscus? I don't want you to try to dig one for me yourself!

LOL...well now that you asked... How about some of the Italian and the cinnamon? I love basil and the cinnamon would be perfect for the puppies to smell.

Now I just need to find some dirt to put in my beds or they may all stay in pots this year! LOL

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, Patrob, I'd like a dragon flower, and I'll ask for one for Austinram, too. He's into succulents, too, but like me, he doesn't know the names of much.

And, Yes, I've got you down for ice plant and hibiscus. The boys are coming over today to help me with some stuff, and that digging is first on my list.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I've got you down for Italian and cinnamon basils, Angel. What nice dogs if they just smell plants!

I have dragon flower potted for you, Sybil, and I'll pot one for Austin as well. I really like the rope-like plant even when it's not blooming. It looks like it would be painful to touch, but it's not. Thank you for the ice plant and hibiscus!

(Carol) Euless, TX(Zone 8a)

Patrob, if you still have leftovers, could I have some seedlings? A couple of tomatoes (whatever you recommend, I've never grown them before), a few peppers (prefer hots and sweets), and some cinnamon basil?

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Covenantgarden, I still have seedlings and will bring some tomatoes and peppers for you along with some cinnamon basil. I'm glad my extra veggies are finding homes!

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Pat, do you have any Bat-faced Cuphea left? I'll take Coneflowers, too.

I don't have any plants to bring (will know for a fact closer to the RU), but will be bringing lots of empty pots, an egg carton (someone was asking for them, can't remember who), used Starbucks coffee, and a wren/chickadee house. All to give away or trade.

Carla

Arlington, TX

I have 3 spindly flame acanthus potted up if anyone wants one. They are not making new leaves yes so not sure how they will do.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Carla, I have you down for the 2 Echinaceas that were left and 4 bat face Cuphea. I've pinched the tops of the Cupheas and hope they start branching. I have plenty of them if you can use more, but they sure are leggy. :(

Waxahachie, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't let those flame acanthus croak!

I have one coming from pbtxlady, but if they're unclaimed & only if they're unclaimed, I'll take them.

Sometimes it takes a long time for them to take hold, but they're really good in the garden.

Sylvania, GA(Zone 8b)

Yup, my Westie LOVES to smell flowers. She has never destroyed anything in my gardens, so whenever we get a new yard I always make sure she has a flower garden she can walk in and smell everything. Sometimes I see her just laying in a sunny spot where she can smell a particular favorite flower...she is funny.

Angel

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I had a few egg cartons saved too--someone else may have thrown them away; I'll have to check. "Honey, we aren't SAVING these for any reason are we?" Uh, yeah, whoops!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Patricia....May I get the A. Soulmate and the Gay Butterflies please....don't have those.

Sybram...I will have a Frostweed for you.

Arlington, TX

I don't have good luck with transplanting them when they pop all over the garden beds. I will keep them watered and bring them. They might be red or orange no way to know.
