what was the deal with the smoke?
Coffee Break # 93
Tradition.
He looks Italian.
he looks Italian? his last name is Bergoglio, not irish that's for sure:)
i saw a breakdown of the cardinals who vote and a good 25% are from the small country of Italy - many more than the US, Africa or S. America - the fix is in :)
surprised they went for an older gentleman and not someone in his late fifties or sixties.
Yes, Italy has a disproportionate number of cardinals. Even the first black pope will just look Sicilian. ;)
Missed you Karen, wondered where you were...
I fell today over Winston...My BIL's dog was over for a play date and I was carrying out a bowl of water for them. Trying to avoid being jumped on by him I side stepped him right into Winston, and down I went. I spun around to try not falling backwards on my back and went down on my knee. It didn't hurt then but boy is it throbbing now. To top it all off the water went down the front of me and Winston thought I wanted to play with them!
Oh, no, Ronnie. Hope you didn't do any damage to your already fragile back!!
Glad you're back online, Karen.....strange how the gull landed on the papal chimney just before Francis I was chosen....St. Francis of Asissi is always shown with a bird....Hope you have ice on that knee, Ronnie!
Oh, Ronnie! Take care of it.
Hope you had fun at Sussex, RRR and gardadore.
I am here til the 28th, Jen. Taking a red eye home. Got Royale home, prescriptions filled, car unloaded. DS called and said he was picking up the kids, so my feet are up. Hmmm...wonder if new food is being brought tonight or if we are having leftovers. Just know that I am not the one doing it. I sat down and it hit me that I'm exhausted. Getting up every few hours to help her get to the bathroom or to reposition is like having a baby in the house. Speaking of babies, Thomas is 5 months old today.
oh no .. sorry to hear it Ronnie.. Celeste & I both fell last week.. we are all batting a thousand
Jan just reading that running around exhausted me
Your a good MIL Jan!!
Thanks guys, always feel like a baby when I complain...sore but I think it will be OK, was more worried about my back.
You are one amazing energizer bunny, Jan.
By the way, the news said that the new Pope is the son of Italian immigrants to Argentina.
I always swore that I would never be 'that' MIL. We are very thankful for all four of our DDIL's.
Just read a book to Markus on his momma's bed. He fell asleep. So did she. His daddy will put him to bed in the top bunk. I can do many things, but I think I would need surgery after that.
Hope you didn't hurt yourself too bad, Ronnie
Ok, tradition, but what does it MEAN?
The ballots are burned after each vote. Black smoke (straw is mixed with the ballots) indicates a failed ballot, white smoke means a new pope has been elected. "Since the cardinals meet in isolation, it's the only way to inform the public about the proceedings."
they use chemicals now for the colored smoke not straw anymore.
And they tweet....
Not from inside. No electronics allowed.
True....
Small world
hubby was working with a plumbing subcontractor and the plumber he ended up working with was the nephew of the fire chief at hubby's old fire house
What a treat! So much to love at Selby Gardens, Louise. How fortunate you are to be there!
I'm back! Neck surgery called platysmectomy today required more skill from the surgeon than I had realized. Over a half hour of preparation having me make faces and 60 or more injections of anesthesia, then at least that long digging under the incision to find a muscle, slowly trim it, remove fat and collected tissue, and then roll the other muscles back, and reattach the medial muscles (the surgeon's term) before closing it. It's like my neck got a tummy tuck because I can tell even with swelling that there's less offending thickness, but the purpose is to improve facial mobility. I am off work for a few days to let the wound close and to recover, but I've had worse experiences.
Good luck on your healing!
Heal well, Rosemary! Glad you can feel a difference already.
Glad you enjoyed your Selby visit, Louise!!
Lovely orchids Louise!!
Take it easy and heal Rose, hope it turns out as you hoped.
