Coffee Break # 91

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

As horrific as these mass shootings are, what bothers me more is the 'regular' criminal violence that goes on every day - especially in cities like Chicago - the President's home town! In particular, gang violence. Gets no coverage, no tears, no donations. Much scarier that people withOUT mental disease have such little regard for life. Almost everyone in gangs has no father at home. Dropped out of school.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Total emphatic ditto to victor..
Thousands of young adults kill each other every year with hardly a blink from media and "
mainstream society" we are fainint horribly at addressing the roots of problems inn urban areas

our old " mental hospitals" near here all have many old buildings with asbestos . Said Too expensive to clean up.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

We had a fatal shooting less than a mile from my house last night around 6:00 o'clock. A guy in his 20s had just picked up his girlfriend and they were driving home when someone else drove by and shot him. It was big news in my neighborhood but it hardly got a mention on the 11:00 news. From the descriptions given it is probably gang related and I think people/media just figure "oh well, they probably did something to the other gang". It's such a callous attitude toward murder which, if you think about it, is not unlike the attitude of the person that pulled the trigger.

Thomaston, CT

Unfortunately, people become inured to that type of violence because it happens all the time.....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I think we are desensitized with all the forensics and cop shows. Death seems glamorized somehow.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Maybe all the anger has to do with all the genetically engineered wheat that has additional chromosomes compared with what we grew up eating. It supposedly affects the brain badly in some who are especially sensitive. It makes me wonder....but I'm sure there is no one simple answer to any of these societal problems.

Thomaston, CT

You are what you eat is apparently true!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I think that is true.

I'm testing icab again to see if can upload a pic of my girls running into their sister on our walk. They all revert back to their puppy days! Here goes.....

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Jeez, it still doesn't work for me! Does anyone have success uploading a photo from your ipad? If so, how? Icab doesn't work.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did the other day, Louise. When I clicked Choose a File, it brought up the Camera Roll from the ipad. Must be a recent change.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I wonder how third world people are doing on engineered wheat.I thought it was hi-bred for them.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks for telling me, Victor.......I get that far, and then I choose the photo, but it doesn't attach the photo. Hmmmmm. I've tried 3 times and nothing. Was your photo distorted or normal? I will have to try again, I guess. 🌴

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mine was fine.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Nope, it doesn't work for me either.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

You too, Jan? It's a mystery to me. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but it just won't work for me either. Bummer!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I don't have icab.. but can upload right from the choose file button from my iphone

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Here is "scientific" proof that looking at kittens (and puppies) makes one more focused and productive at work!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

wow thats interesting! who wold have thought to study that?

Kawaii = great cat name .

Thomaston, CT

Fun study...who doesn't like looking at kitties & puppies? Does anyone like challenging jigsaw puzzles? I have one that's driving me crazy....it's a primitive called Winter in VT & every piece is the same size & shape...you have to go by color....except colors are repeated all over....frustrating!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

sallyg - someone who got caught looking at kittens and puppies on company time.

Anyone try the new Garden Showcase yet? http://davesgarden.com/showcase/ I like the idea of making albums but photo upload is way to slow to have to do one pic at a time.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Underwhelmed.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yankeecat- Yup!

I did an all-white jigsaw once, you had to just really methodically try many pieces. Robin, yours might be WORSE.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

hi everybody revisiting this site I have learned so much in how to garden at this site. I live in zone 6 we are going through the coldest season right now. I have received some seeds for spring. I'm about to start a few. Is any one else starting seeds now for spring. If you are can you share what you are starting. I appreciate any replies.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Too soon for my garden.
Maybe you can start a thread about seed starting for 2013.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Welcome back Dottie! To early for me to plant seeds now, Allison (onewish1) is the seed queen though. :)

Been playing nurse since last Wed. to my brother Brians GF Debbie. She fell getting out of her truck last wed. morning and shattered her wrist. They operated on it Fri. morning and ended up putting pins, screws, wire and a plate in it. She's very tiny... 4' 10" and weighs 105 lbs. , she wears a size 14 in kids clothes and wears a kids size
2 1/2 - 3 shoe.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - in your size class, Celeste! Hope she heals quickly.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Seed queen is a slacker this year

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

O K .I am tired of the inaugural ball coverage right now.

Thomaston, CT

I'll be starting some seeds in Feb., others in March.....not doing many this year, as I bought mostly direct seed varieties.....

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That is the only type of seed that works for me.I dont have lights or tables nor do I want the bother. Its just geezer stuff.
