Betty, glad to hear you and Darlene are safe tonight. I've thought of the two of several times today wondering if you were driving or not. Get a good night's rest...And stay safe.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks everyone, we are praying the meds she is on from the bet will help. It is going to cost a lot of money, but I hope she is in good hands now, and getting the proper treatment she needs.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All ;

Dianne would love that liver recipe... Not sure how to buy liver LOL... but maybe one day I'll surprise Hubs for some reason... Yes I work all next week except Tuesday and Friday..... NO HEAT !?! Hopefully I read that wrong you definitely need heat !
LK - I had given up on pie crust but Dianne taught me an easy way.... OMG LUNA! (HUGS) I am mad with you at those people... heart worm meds so easy... why do folks skip that

Oh Judy ! YAY Love your pressie ! I remember those candies... delicious and you know they helped my cough at the time as well ! Dianne is such a talented artist your morning glories and hummingbird are just gorgeous ! and YES at least 4 recipes now I've tried from the cookbook and repeating the Cream Cheese Mash Potatoes tomorrow (making ahead for Christmas)
Great day Joyce... We had lunch at Olive Garden too ! LOL
Deb if you are wrapping pressies I am glad means you have gotten some Christmas done ... I know it's been stressful to catch up...
Betty.... "Kitties" ??? hope the hotel gets your TV fixed!

DSD2 being very nice :o). DS half brother (25yr) to come visit tomorrow. Hubs and DSD2 to work on Christmas decorations, then I'll try to get him out for stocking stuffers. I REALLY Want to cook Mom's Roast.
No butcher seems to understand what I want. "Rolled Beef Rib Roast wrapped with fat and tied with String". THAT was the roast for all holidays, graduations. etc. Where is a good old fashioned butcher when you need one ? Jean?

Glad to read Betty and Darlene have made it safely this far. The rest of the trip should go much, much better as the nasty front has passed through this area. Did leave some colder temps and high winds. Brought down several big limbs, one of which barely missed the edge of the carport roof. Thank goodness it did or I would be getting in touch with a roofer.

i will mostly gladly relinquish my share of liver to all those who enjoy eating it. I think growing up on a farm ruined me.....always my job to take the pan of fresh liver when dad butcher. Can't see to get the smell out of my head.

DD drive me today to try to finish up the few things left on my Christmas list. Talk about a pair of cripples. LoL, she is still a little weak from the virus she had and I am having difficulty walking. Did get everything done thankfully. Found a new Cuban cafe for lunch and enjoyed one of the better Cuban sandwiches I have had in a while. Cafe con leche was outstanding.

I hear my warm cozy bed calling my name so I think I will go.............

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mornimg all,

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Hope you got plenty of rest Betty. It won't do to arrive exhausted so go slowly now. No bad weather headed that way that I could see.....
Norm and I are baking cookies and pie today . We have so much fun when we do it together....

Verona, ON

Morning everyone! Snow has stopped but the wind is wicked. I didn't dress warm enough when I took the pups out for their first walk this morning. I hustled along much to Diesel's glee. I usually poke a bit so Quill is not out of my sight. Now that I realize she won't bolt on me anymore I am a little more relaxed about having her in my direct line of sight. She and Stormy boy were runners! Man could they move.

Need to get out this morning to the PO, grocery store and bank. I have been wracking my brain about a gift for Steve and Pam. They have been so good to me but nothing came to mind. I have finally decided to give them money to go towards the bedroom suite they are saving up for. I'll make sure Pam gets the $$$'s in her hands and then they won't be spent on parts for vehicles and sleds Steve is working on for people.

Mary, I will Dmail you the recipe for the liver. It is even easier than the pie crust.

Drive safely Betty. You are not missing a thing weather wise here!!! Is someone plowing your drive while you are gone? Rain forecasted for tomorrow and Christmas Day though.

LK I am very upset about Luna. Her previous owners need a good talking to I think. Hope Kelly will be able to give you some advice. Kelly is a great gal - just the sweetest, big hearted person you could meet. But what am I saying, of course she is she is a DGer!! Luna has got a loving home now and I am so happy she does. As Debbie said she is a very sick little girl but with the right meds and your love she will do fine.

How is Norm doing this morningBarb? And you, how are you feeling these days?

Lane is plowed so I will strike out shortly while I can. If I can get everything then I don't really have to go out for anything until 2013. Wow doesn't that sound strange?
Dianne

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

OK, Betty. :o(

Wondered why I hadn't heard from you. I thought you were leaving the car with Darlene and flying back to Canada? Maybe you can time it so you can spend the night with me. After all, I spent SEVERAL nights with you!

Cold here, but no snow. The wind is still pretty angry, but doesn't seem to be quite as bad as yesterday. Think I'll do some baking today. I don't have any plans now until Christmas day.

Hope you are all warm and snuggly!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Norm is doing great Dianne. You know how he is - he doesn't say anything unless he's really hurting. But I have learned to "read his face and words" and he truly is doing good. He is getting used to not lifting anything remotely heavy and he knows I will come down on him if he does. Our grandson just left with a dump run for us and while here made sure everything is ship shape. That is our Brandon. He is such a great kid. We came home from the hospital on Thursday to find the driveway, walk and deck all cleaned off. It was only a bit more than a dusting but it was done. Those are the things that mean so much to us. You tell Quill to go as slow as she needs to and tell Diesel to respect his elder!!!! Glad they are with you my dear.
It is cold and windy here today. We are going to bake cookies. We have fun together doing that. Norm's sister has gone to her son's home for Christmas and we almost feel like we are newlyweds again!!!
Hope your travels are easy today Betty. And hope your Luna gets all the care to make her well LK...
Off to get going.......

Verona, ON

Safe travels today Betty. Your parcel was awaiting me at the PO today. Mailman's wife didn't get this one!

Yep Brandon is a keeper Barb!! Glad to read Norm is doing well. You learn real fast to read their face, actions and listen to their tone of voice don't you Barb? Santa Warren would never complain unless it was so bad no one on earth could stand the pain and even then I had to drag it out of him. By keeping an 'evil' eye on him I was able to stay on top of his pain meds without preaching at him. That was wonderful as Warren was raised you did not take any medication as all of it was bad for you thus was very resistant to even pain meds initially. Enjoy your space you two!!!!!

Hi everyone

About 150 miles from Florida border..south of Atlanta was 1 1/2 hr delay which means we will not try for fort Myers tonight

Likely mid Florida, wonder is thunder is working..hotels in that area I'm sure..

Gab later

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Barb, enjoy that "newly wed" feeling!!! So happy to hear Norm is doing well and the nice surprise from your grandson. Gotta to love 'em!!

Bright and sunny down here but a very definite nip in the air....jackets feel very nice due to the winds! Yesterday was nothing short of miserable weather. Overcast day and really bad winds.

Betty, good thing you are not yet to 75 near Gainesville today. I just read where a semi was to tall to go under one of the overpasses. Traffic is being routed around G'ville. Should be repaired today for sure. Travel safely.

Wishing all a great day with final preps for Christmas. Need to go to the grocery but that is all that remains for us.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, you might make it to the state line today......near Thunder would be incredible timing!! Takes about 5 -6 hrs. if south of Atlanta to get to the Gainesville area. Not many good motels at the Wildwood exit......plan to stop before then maybe Gainesville or Ocala! Holiday Inn at Archer Road exit in Gainesville is great and right next door to a Cracker Barrel.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Maid Marion, our very own travel agent!!! ^_^

Lyndonville, NY

Marion said the magic word "Cracker Barrel" which Betty will love!!

I hope you two are settled in for the evening!

Been busy all day, wrapping and finishing little projects. DH took me out to get a couple things then out to dinner.
Stopped at a "light show" at one of the houses on a back country road. House is all done up, as is the yard, and if you turn radio on 87.9...the music
goes with the lights. Must admit I was like a little kid. It was just what I needed!!

Enjoy your evening....

Debbie

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL Joyce, I have traveled that route enough to know where things are now. I stayed at the Holiday Inn I mentioned for 6 years when I was working with the festival. I night monthly and then the week before I would be there. I was there so much that they knew when I was coming, always had the same room and got really good rates. :-) I, personally, would not want to drive on I-75 at night this time of year. Certainly not past Ocala if I wanted a decent place to stay. Decent as in: clean surrounds, bed linens, no homeless people hanging around and feeling secure about my car. Next place for decent motels would be Brooksville which is another hours drive.

Temps are dropping quickly here tonight.....think we might be in for a hard freeze.

Verona, ON

Morning everyone. Storm supposed to be moving in here. Hope Betty has clear sailing for the rest of her drive.

Steve and Mike were here at first light to finish splitting and stacking next year's wood. I wish these guys would take something for doing this but other than a cold drink that's all they will want or take.

Need some cereal will be back later. Anyone baking today?

Dianne

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good morning from cold northern Florida........in the mid 20s with some ice in saucers. Temps aren't all that bad as there is no wind today. Sun is trying to peak through so looks like it will be a bright day too.

Dianne, I understand how you feel about the guys doing all the work and not taking something in return. Then on the brighter side, isn't it nice when you find yourself in need of help that there are such wonderful people in the world.

Thought Betty would have checked in last night but alas I guess she hit the Florida state line and just kept moving!!! Sunny skies must have done that. :-)

Hope to finish some baking today...banana bread, oatmeal cookies and some corn flake cookies. How much is completed depends on how long I can stand on this dumb knee.

Have a great day everyone.

Glenview, IL

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

A late good morning everyone....

Norm and I are going to bake today. We had planned to get an early start but my brother who lives about 60 miles away called and he and my SIL drove up since we can't/won't drive down there now. Until Norm is a-OK we don't go farther away from the hospital than where we are now. So they nicely drove up. Anyway, they brought wonderful muffins and we had a nice visit. My SIL's b'day is tomorrow and we always made it a point to keep that and Christmas separate. Wasn't that way when she was growing up and she got few b'day gifts....

Norm is off to the grocery to pick up a few things to carry us through the week. And then after lunch we wil begin baking in earnest. Norm amde a chocolate pie yesterday and I made toffee candy. so now it is cookies----

Hoping Betty and Darlene are safely ensconced someplace nice and warm...And that the driving is over for a few days. Rest Betty, rest!!! Sending our warmest wishes for an enjoyable Christmas with no worries....

Dianne, you know they will not accept anything more than that because that is how true friends are with each other. I'm so glad to know they are looking out for you.

Judy - so glad to hear that you got some funds and to hear you sound so happy. Sorry about the sink though.....

Marion - tell me about corn flake cookies please? I haven't heard of those.... We are doing snickerdoodles, choco-mincemeat and no-bake choco/oatmeal. And if I still have any ambition left - an applesauce cake. Might make a few anise balls too!!!

Must go make sure the butter is softening - bbl

Good Morning. Just popped in to share an old favorite with you all. It always helps to set the mood for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJxi0zCdGEY

Off to bake more pies...

Jean

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Jean. That was super!!!! And a very Merry Christmas right back to you and yours!!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Cornflake cookies are fantastic and every so easy to bake. The hardest part is putting the cornflakes in a ziplock bag and crushing them. LOL Will get recipe and send to you. Warning: You can't just eat one!!!!! I got the recipe years ago from a friend in garden club who said she bakes them for her husband who was diabetic. Can't figure out why they are okay as they do have sugar in them but then who knows. That is what she told me and who am I to have questions someone who is sharing a great recipe?

Lyndonville, NY

OK, do I go to Barbs first....or to Jeans.. I love pies, they are a big weakness! I so want to make a banana pudding pie...but my bananas were NOT salvageable..even the fruit flies avoided them.

Please keep Dianne in your thoughts....her dear pup Quill is having a very bad day. Dianne does not need any more sadness at Christmas! The 28th is her birthday also.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Arrived safely, no phone internetuntil tmr
Gab then

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

That message just made my day!!!! Thanks for letting us know Betty....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hi there, excited as can be, neighbor connected me to his wifi so not without you all, was starting to panic. Lol

Now off to read the last few days, hope you were behaving!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Always??????

Lyndonville, NY

Look who chimes in first about the "behaving". Someone has a guilty conscious!

Glad you arrived safely and some nice southern people have given you a connection!! Great people!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Come on down Debbie. I made a bunch of small pies for my FIL for Christmas a few days ago....MIL called this morning and said FIL wanted to know id I would make one for Christmas dinner....since there will be over 20 family members there, it is more like 4 pies....at least he won't miss out on apple pie...GRIN

Good thoughts and hugs to Dianne.. Even when you are not in contact, you are never alone.

Off to do more pies...element went out in the oven....I thought those silly things should last 20 years...LOL. So, thank goodness for the toaster oven....just takes 4 times longer...but at least I have something to keep me occupied.....whistling as I head to the kitchen....grin

Victoria Harbour, ON

Praying hard that Quill perks up once again..Debbie, you are right, Dianne has had enough for one year and longer...had just read her post re walking with Quill and then I read the last post..drats

Did post last night, amazed it didn't post..oh well

Thunder I got off at Wildwood exit to gas up and waved. A young man said likely the Walmart you work at is about 10-15 miles away..was early a.m. So doubted you were working

The best western in Gainsville was impressive..I'd never spend that much for one night but Darlene insisted we stay there.

Think I've tasted cereal cookies, wonder if the recipe could be shared ?? Seeing I have no crafting materials here I must find something to do..hmmm now I've wifi I will look for a Joann's..maybe buy rest of their Christmas fabric. Lol

I laughed, had envelops to send out, couldn't fnd post office right off I-75 so first thing tomorrow morning off I go to find me.

Judy, you always amaze me..regardless how things are going you always are on an up...speaking of Christmas stockings you sew'ers likely would enjoy the twisted Christmas stocking pattern, can get an early start on next years gift..somebody slap me silly. Lol. IF I can find a place nearby I'll photocopy and send along the pattern if you want.

Jean, off to check your link

barb glad Norm shows signs when he is under stress and that way you are aware when he is not letting you know when he is not well...enjoy being newlyweds, I'm so envious of you

LindaKay, how is Luna?

Katie, how is it going?

And Suse and Susan, you both ok?

Long day, bought a quilting book..think I'll put my head back and leaf through it
Love some of their easy patterns

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm closer than those ladies, am heading for sweets Jean

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, glad to hear you liked the Best Western...my last experience there was horrible but managers do change and things do improve. You passed right by a Joannes in Gainesville...next exit down from where you stayed...just exit, turn left and it is right there!!! There is a Joannes in Ft. Myers but not sure of the location. Glad you are in and safe, now it is time to rest!!!

Hope all is going well for Dianne....sending a big hug!!

Yes, I will share the "cereal" cookie recipe Betty. Need to find it again.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending warm hugs and gentle prayers that Dianne's Quill is doing better. She was a bit off the last couple days and I know Dianne is worried.
And where is Thea? I miss seeing you post girl..... Hope all is well north of the border.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Has anyone had any word from Susan? Seems she just dropped out of sight after going to work.

Betty...glad you had a safe trip...do enjoy yourself...hope the sun shines brightly for you.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Susan has been posting here and there. She has said things are well with work. She was not feeling well for a few days. Buttttt is better now.
Kyle is well, always great to see him.
Hugs to Y'All

Guten Morgen!!! Rise and Shine and Merry Christmas!!!

I finally made it back to DG, or online period. I have been pretty busy the last few weeks with preparation for the Angel/Snowsuit and food basket Charity and I am happy to report we finished it up last Thursday!! The chairlady for our area became sick (and so did a lot of our volunteers) and so I had to take over and my lord if I would not have had Bernie’s help I am not sure what I would have done!! Lots of work behind the scene that I was not really aware of and by the time Thursday afternoon arrived I was pretty darn tired and sore, but I also had one wonderful experience of the true meaning of Christmas!!!

A Mother (3 little Children) came back to the hall where we were handing out the snowsuits/gifts and food baskets and told me that there was a mistake with one of the snowsuits…she received a snowsuit for a 18 month old girl, but she in fact had a 12 month old boy!!! Needless to say the gift (pink clothes) was also for a little girl!! So I apologized and told her that I will get a snowsuit and a gift to her place before Christmas.
I called head office and NO snowsuit for a little boy and for the gift I would have had to drive around to other Charities and see if they had a gift leftover. Called my sweetie (he was still in the City) and he told me not to worry and he would buy a snowsuit and a gift (his donation).
That evening we drove to the Lady to deliver the things, Mom opened the door holding the baby boy and beside her was her oldest daughter (age 4). The Mom told the girl “This is the Lady that gave me the snowsuit for you this afternoon”…well little Girl’s face lit up, big smile and she told me “You gave me a purple snowsuit and purple is my favorite colour!!!” with that she ran up to me and gave me the biggest HUG ever!!!
And she told me “Thank you…thank you!!” She ran put the coat on and danced around the house, running back to me and hugging me again and again (by that time I had the BIGGEST lump in my throat) she pulled me down by my coat and she kissed me on both cheeks and my forehead and she told me about Santa and that she was a good little girl and hopes to get a present from him.
I hugged the Mom and the kids and wished them a Merry Christmas and when I got back to the car I had tears running down my face…Bernie had watched this unfold from the car and he too was very touched by this little girl.

This was MY special Christmas Moment and I am soooooooooo grateful that I could experience this. So to all of you that donate money or gifts or clothes or your time to charities…YOU do make a difference!!!! I wish you all could have experienced what I did!!!

I just had to share this!! I have to get going again…lots of food prep to do for the next 3 days!! lol
Will try and stop by and post during the Holidays!!!

Love you all and my thoughts and prayers are with you and I wish you a very Blessed Christmas!!
Love and many Hugs
Thea
