Things that make you go "hmmmm" or Say what???!!!! Pt 5

Thomaston, CT

Just an awful year. Sad for a lot of folks.

Trying to research about seed germination. One of the hits was a site called Grasscity. Let's just say, it ain't Miscanthus they're trying to germinate!

One guy wrote "It's been 20 hours since I put my seeds in the damp paper towel, and I haven't seen a thing happen to my seeds yet!" Geezawhiz!! Bit impatient, are we? ROFL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Heehee. Was he maybe trying to grow his own answer to the cliff?!!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

On the subject of germination - The Dave is building a germination timetable app that links to your zip code. It is still in Beta. http://allthingsplants.com/thread/view/14212/An-app-for-determining-the-right-time-to-plant-vegetables/

Anyone remember the Bugs Bunny episode with the two friends on the deserted island - one fat, one skinny - who start seeing each other as a hamburger and hot dog???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hmm - hope this is true and really catches on.

Reported today that NY State has covered up its own report on fracking safety, which concluded that it is safe. Someone leaked it to the NY Times.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Not surprised!

I dreamed that they sent me flowers to fluff & put away. I got flowers with fish in bowls. I droppe a fish and tried to grab it & put it back in the water. I hate dumb stupid dreams.

Anyone see the new HGTV dream home giveaway?
Now that's my kind of house, rather up in the mountains but I'll take it...I always do the 360° tours and found 1 weird room, the loft...it's a kids bunk room with the stairs going down right in the front, better hope your kid's not a sleepwalker

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

The marsh...the marsh....if those kids make it down the stairs and ouside, the marsh mosquitos will carry them away quicker than anynPeter Pan and Tinkerbell dream can!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL, Rosie, need to put up some bat houses when I win, huh?

Unreal, this country has lost it

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Wonder if the judge would think differently if someone tried to impersonate him in the marital bed.

A bat house would help ......some.....but thank goodness that house offers lots of views for those too fainthearted to wander outdoors.

Thomaston, CT

Loved the house....if I had to live in a city, it would be Charleston......however, the marsh bothered me as well....great for birding, but the mosquitoes would win out!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I try to visit Charleston 2-3 x year. Great food - southern cooking ( oh those sticky buns!) and the seafood is especially fine. Folks are so friendly. Great town to walk and shop. But when it is hot and humid.......oh boy.....no escape....add to that mosquitos....... like wearing scratchy wool in a steambath. BUT IF I WIN THAT BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, I'LL FIND A WAY TO MANAGE THE BUGS!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah, thanks for reminding me, Jen! Will enter as much as I can. Ashame most winners have to sell.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I can imagine the taxes on it

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Look at the amount of pork in gravy you get in this package. THe box is easily twice as big as the food. Deceitful. Wasteful for transport- shipping boxes of air.

I have always thought I would do this if I won. Since you are the full owner and there is no mortgage, you own 100% of the equity. Get a home equity loan against it. Pay the tax with that. Then rent it (if you can) during the times when you will not use it. That should easily pay the loan.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I think the 500K is to help with the taxes incurred by the big win. But if not already wealthy, after the 1st year, homeowners taxes, insurance, and association fees, will surely be prohibitive.

Thomaston, CT

I'd sell my house & live there permanently, mosquitoes & all! Taxes aren't as high as CT, I'm sure...neither is the cost of living....

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

The house plus 500 k? wow. Agreed on the mosquito problem, you'd spend 100k in screening right off, lol.
Jen if your kid doesn't sleepwalk down the steps, she may fall out of the plunge pool on the wrong side, yikes.
I do like the outdoor shower, kinda sorta wish I could do one here.
But my dream home really is in the mountains too. THen I'd just visit the beach.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Mountains here, too.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Robin, but then each year you would have to pay land tax on the full value of the house ( more than a million dollar value.) All other expenses in that neighborhood would be on par with the value of the house. That is why nobody keeps -- the house is paid in full with the 'win,' and initial taxes on the 'win' are paid too, but after that first year, still have to pay the yearly land tax, the subdivision fees ( you can bet there are some) and have the resources to actually live there - bet utilities ain't cheap!

Yes, if you sell it later and you get more than the value when you got it.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Loved that Sally!! That was a good one. Some others haven't been that good!

cute video

Love that video!

Mall.

Husband: "Why you looking at that?"
Wife : "it's so cheap!"
Husband: "It's 6 sizes too small!"
Wife: "It's so cheap!"
Husband: "It ain't gonna fit"
Wife: "But it's so cheap at this price I can't afford NOT to get it!"
Husband: "We'd save MORE money if you laid off those fries!"

I would have whopped him a good one but the gal just giggled and he gave her a "honey I love you just like you are" grin.

Made my day! That was the best thing at the mall!

Interesting sounding music coming from the loft....hubby just went upstairs 10 min before to watch a movie on DVD....

Me. "what you watching?"
Hubby: (silence)
Me: " WHAT YOU WATCHING?"
Hubby: " umm..um...I don't know......there were so many damn previews, I forget what I put in!"

He is a cheap date!

My turntable just broke. Now I have to find someone that does "vintage" audio repair. I think this one is from the early 70's. Probably played a lot of Donna Summer before I got it at Goodwill. It is a direct drive so it sets the needle down itself and the whole thing is very thin as the needle is in the top of the case so it fits in the spce of a drawer in a cabinet.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I sadly tookmy turntable to the dump years ago. Probaby a broken wire said D H .

Dyed blue orchids at home depot. Yuck.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

never set up all the stereo components when we moved here, turntable still in attic, would like to convert all my albums, though

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I had a tape convered to CD - had it "remastered" for $29.95. The digital version sucks! I never realized what a difference there is between analog and digital - at least when it comes to Jazz. I bought a digital turntable to put all my vinyl on CDa couple of years ago and I'm just not going to do it after I heard the difference. I will just keep a sound system going and playing my records.
