Best/Worse/What did I learn today! chat with friends!

Marion meant to add:

Does torn ligaments mean surgery???? Bet he did say to stay as quiet as you can..wouldn't you know it, quiet Christmas, just what you wanted right?

mulege, Mexico

In many ways I think torn ligaments are worse than a break. You MUST keep off the knee as much as possible, as I'm sure your doctor told you

I went to town and got two new t-shirts. I have lots but they tend to get torn, dirty, spotted with paint, etc. The meat store had about five pounds of liver. I got it all. The dogs will be happy. Got other groceries. Post office was closed so I may go back toomorrow.

Katie, is there a big hype for Christmas as there is here and USA?? would imagine Christmas is Christmas regardless where it is, silly question! seeing you are on a roll don't you be overworking or getting the dogs excited that they bite..you need to be well to be Mrs.Santa

Was just thinking to myself, feel a bit odd, think it's the not having to answer (if that is the right word) to anyone, I just decide if I leave and no one to account to, just me, myself and I..what a downer lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Up until the MRI, the doctor was treating the knee for arthritis....kept telling him this was very different. So no, he hasn't told me to stay off but common sense has helped me discover it was in my best interest. Not sure what the Ortho doc will do about the knee..waiting to hear when they get my appointment.

Quiet Christmas? Betty, that means most likely we will have Christmas with my son and family. 2 GDs doesn't exactly make for a quiet anything. LOL Pleasureable.....most definitely. Did talk with my mom and she told me in a very stern voice I was to take care of Kim first, me second. Isn't that just like a grandmother to think of her granddaughter before her daughter? LOL

I want to thank you Carolyn for the wonderful gifts. The Amish cookbook is one of the things I have always wanted because I buy Amish food at one of our stores once in a while. You must know me because I use a lot of to do lists and book marks and candles. Also thank you for the Lindor candies. I have been wanting to try those. I would take a picture but my son's girlfriend has moved in and I have no room for anything right now. We are in the middle of remodeling. Again thank you so much and have a wonderful Holiday Season. Hugs Bev

mulege, Mexico

There is much less hype about Christmas here. Not so much a consumer-oriented society. More of a family holiday with Christmas Eve being the big day with a late dinner and, for many, lots of drinking. Lots of parents are still in bed and/or hung over when I make my rounds on Christmas morning.

And I'm Santa, not Mrs. Santa. I have a beard and a Santa suit. I can hide behind it to overcome any shyness.

When they say "one step forward and two back" I think they mean for someone with a torn ligament. Every step is a step backward!! No fun at all.

lol, yep, mom's are always moms!
Just went down to Zellers and got cat food/treats, saves me a stop on my way home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving to Santa...sorry Katie, didn't realize you dressed up as Santa.
Am sure the children are thrilled with your visit.

Be safe Betty!

LOL Katie! I got all excited when you said you bought liver. I thought you were another liver lover like me. There are few liver lovers out there so I am always excited when I hear of another one.

Bev your gift sounded wonderful..... and Lindor chocolates!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Dianne - both Norm and I love liver. We shall have some when you visit!! Hint, hint......

Lyndonville, NY

I love you Dianne, but I will have to pass on the liver! Quill can have my portion! lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Pass here also on the liver....my cat won't even eat it if I cook it for her.

Verona, ON

Aw you guys, liver is excellent. Its all in the cooking I think. My mam made it so you didn't even need a knife to cut it as it was fork tender. Yum! She had a gravy with onions around it and added peas just a few minutes before she served it. Now we never had this at home but Warren always expected liver to be served with bacon.

Barb how did things go for you and Norm today? Glad I am not striking out to your place tonight - the weather sounds horrid.

Speaking of which Betty's home is in a Freezing Rain Warning area. The warning has yet to be extended to Thea and I but I expect it before morning. Betty, Thea and I could also get a huge dump of snow - we are right in line for it according the weather liars. I listened to the Weather Liars and moved in a week's worth of wood into the holding area in the carport. Now I won't have to wander out to the big pile. It is really not that far from the house but when the wind is whipping and the snow/ice is falling it is nice to have the comfort of the carport. Must be getting soft in my old age!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Everything is ready for Christmas around here. i will be traveling to Toledo on Tuesday if the weather is agreeable. Everyone will be gathering at youngest son's for Christmas. I thought with her pregnancy Christmas was too much for her but she say's that DS will do all the cooking so she doesn't have to do much. Ha, ha! She agreed to send Jonathan to my Findlay DS & DIL for last weekend so she could get some rest. We took 2 yr old Jonathan (grandson) and 6 yr old Preston (my great-grandson) to the Eagles for their Christmas party and visit with Santa Claus. Can't wait to see the pictures.
Oldest son, & his 2 sons will be with us. One home from college and the other just out of jail. Can't wait to see my jailbird; he is just a stupid kid making some wrong decisions in light of the divorce in the family. The boys may spend the afternoon putting together the crib and chest for the new baby.

Have to say Stacey is driving me wild. Due date for the baby is Feb.20 but we all know it will be early. Hope it stays where it is until at least mid-January but who knows. Now Stacey is getting all upset because she doesn't have much for this new one. All the clothes and such were boy stuff and this is a little girl. I keep telling her there is lots of time but she likes to be prepared. She has a wish list on Amazon.com under her name for Alexandra and I will have to check it out. I have made some bibs, burp clothes, and receiving blankets and am just finishing a small crib blanket out of some darling fairy fabric. I did kind of go wild when I bought this fabric and now have tons left even after the quilt. I'll show when finished.

Let me remind all of you now and again after Christmas that we are having an internet baby shower for her on January 20. Send cards and, if you are handy, booties, etc. either to her house (6116 Foxcroft, Toledo, OH 43685) or to mine (my address is in the exchange) and I will she gets them. With winter, and her inability to travel, a shower here is just not in the cards. I know she would just loved to hear that you are all thinking about her and Alexandra.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Barb, don't know if I mentioned it before, but have you checked with your County Cancer Center. Most are covered under the United Way. Most counties have them and they will pay for travel to and from cancer appointments, prescriptions, and other expenses. Each county is different; mine paid $100 a month on my cancer drugs, $.30 a mile for transport and other help with radiation and chemo although I didn't need that.
I know I felt any help was welcome.
Glad you all are done with chemo. I was done with radiation last Christmas and I know it made the holiday so much nicer.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Dianne, I am with you...I love liver smothered in onion gravy with potatoes, or braised with onions....or fried chicken livers or wrapped in bacon and grilled (rumaki)...or pate from chicken livers....are there any other ways to cook it? GRIN

Hope all of you stay safe and warm...never heard the Weather Channel "name" a winter storm, but they are calling this one Draco (Drago)? Don't know why when that means dragon and dragons breathe fire, not snow and ice....

Betty, safe trip wishes to you and Darlene...do take care.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Janixe, nice to see pop in. Know your have been busy, but it looks like your not done running yet! Give Tink and family hugs from us please?
Make sure ou remind us again about the baby shower.

I will, pass on the liver as well! Hubby loves it, but I have no clue how to Make it, so all he gets I'd fried chicken livers now and then.

Debbie, did you get all your shopping done?

Lyndonville, NY

Linda Kay, I made an amazing dent in it!! I even impressed myself! DH is even done. I have to do the food shopping first thing in the morning, especially since
we have this storm moving in now.

I have to say, Shannon has been a great help, although she knows everything she is getting for Christmas...which I don't like. Will see if I can find a little surprise or such for her when out tomorrow. I could use an Elf to help wrap all this! lol

mulege, Mexico

I like liver sometimes, just not as often or as well as the dogs.

My thumb is much better but I'm really tired. Partly Christmas and partly the bite I think. The van is getting filled and Barbara will help me on Christmas.

Need to check my Santa suit.

hugs, kb

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Things went well for Norm today although it was a long one. We were told to be at the hospital for 9 am and then he ended up with an IV in and waiting until he went to the OR at 12:30pm.
Since this was a last minute surgery he had to wait until there would be an OR available. But the operation itself went well. He now has a drain under the arm. I also pointed out a spot on his back that I didn't like (looked like his first melanoma) so she removed that as well and sent it to pathology. We will hear from them next week. He is and will be quite sore for a few days and I'm looking forward to having him home and spoiling him a bit. And yesterday was his last chemo treatment as well for which we are truly grateful... Thank you so much for all your good wishes and prayers. They are so appreciated.
Now we are both soooo tired and off to just chill and relax.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all..

Hit a bit of everything , rain, sleet, few snowflakes but not much..decided spend the night in familiar territory, here on Niagara falls blvd at the usual hotel I stay at.

Just had to change weather channel as its not making tomorrow's drive sound great..would love to respond to everyone but please forgive me for not and closing my eyes..tired and sore tonight

God bless

sweet dreams Betty, and stay safe!!!!

Lyndonville, NY

Get some rest Betty, and be very careful. It is all South west of you...and moving up towards us so I worry you will be driving right into it.

Rest rest!!!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty - Please drive carefully as I know you will... Your Christmas will be wonderful...Embrace your independance ! Even while being Independant you are NEEDED! By us on here if anything LOL... (hugs) and many many others !
Jean Love the 6" pie idea and looked up Reuben soup because I do LOVE Reuben sandwiches
Katie some very lovely words said about our ladies on here and I wholeheartedly agree... helped me through many a rough spot.
Barb and Norm (HUGS) sounds like good news so far .... great advice from ladydragon... Janice... I wouldn't have thought of....
Dianne - Hubs just LOVES Liver and onions and you can only get it one place here that I know of... I do like it.. but it's not something mom cooked a lot... so I don't crave it.... Jean - Mom used to do Rumaki for Dad's Air Force Parties... I've made it without the livers because I never remembered that was an ingredient... used water chestnuts... LOL...
Deb so excited The Child has helped out so much... maybe a turning point.
My "the child" came home yesterday...DSD2... and although a stumble or two... she has really been just fine.

We did Christmas Cookies and some other cooking for Christmas tonight. Me, DS, DSGF (whom I LOVE) and DSD2 with her friend....

DSD2 really helped with clean up... I made a big deal of it... let her know how much that meant to me. This was the child who seemed to literally litter as she walked through the house unknowingly... LOL

I had to "unfriend" the other DSD on FB last night. Too much drama. sad.

Off tomorrow... so a nice 3 day weekend ahead...(HUGS) to all my friends...
Mary

Verona, ON

Oh yum Rumaki! I love the chicken livers with waterchesnut and bacon wrapped around them. Mary making liver at home is like pie crust, it is really easy to do just lookes cmplicated. I swear my mam's old Welsh recipe would have your hub;s eyes just a dancing and his stomache watering.

Drive safe Betty and Darlene. It is horrid outside here right now. Lots of heavy snow mixed with ice particles. Diesel just freaked when I went to put him out a bit ago - he has never had to walk in snow! What a funny sight!

Stay safe everyone in this storm.

(((Mary))) how sad to have to go to the step of unfriending your one DSD BUT it is not worth the drama it is causing in your life. Enjoy your 3 day weekend. Do you work on Dec24?

No heat, plumber didn't fix the problem yesterday. Darn!
Dianne

Morning everyone,

Raining heavy right now, drats tv volume went on the tv, mute not on, wanted to listen to forecast, or do I?

If we knew it would be terrible we might just stay here for the day..called downstairs lobby, she is coming to check it out

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
Cool here this morning, but not as cold as they had predicted. Weather liars said we were supposed to drop to 28 degree's, but it is only 36.
Dianne, I can't make lie crust either. My Mom could make them, and it looked so easy watching her, but my crust come out so hard, so I gave up. Now I'm buy the pre made crust.
Betty, hope your not driving in the bad weather.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

be safe Betty !!!

Morning Judy! Wow, look at all the nice pressies you got from Dianne! Cook books sounds like it has some nice recipes? And that stained glass work is beautiful! Looks like morning glories?

Verona, ON

Oh Judy I am so glad things got there in one piece. I am usually a good packer but the one time it means so much to you it always seems to be the time things get broken. I love the Morning Glory glass piece I sent you - that is one of my original designs. Well original from Mother Nature. I went out and drew some of the Morning Glories I had growing and made my pattern from that. The candy is made by a local guy whose family has been in the trade for years. The Great grandfather learned the trade will a prisoner in Kingston Pen and he carried it on once he was released. Their candy is the best!!! Mary found a recipe in that cookbook she really liked. I like the one for Microwave peanut brittle. Fast and delicious! So glad you all like jigsaw puzzles. Santa Warren and I loved doing them and always had one on the go. I thought we had one with a motorcycle that was quite complicated and Warren started it when he was ill. He gave up on it but I have no idea where he put it. I knew you and Steve would enjoy that! If and when I find it I will mail it on to you so you can do it. It is the bomb! I am so happy you are enjoying everything in the parcel.

Betty, it is still snowing here and is very slippery. Maybe you were wise to get out of Dodge last night. Wonder how far south you have to drive to get out of the storm? I understand they are naming this winter storm - they don't usually do that. Environment Canada warned yesterday that we here in Ontario are in for a good old fashioned winter.Wonder if the Weather Liars will be correct?

Lyndonville, NY

Dianne & Judy....those are beautiful! Love the morning glories also! I have my cardinal in my window and think of my trip every time I see it. You do beautiful
work.

Dianne, that storm is reaching from way down south and curving up. SO, it could be a few states before they get out of the bad weather. SIL in Ohio has snow I know.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

We just got a tiny bit of snow. It's windy as all get out though. Wonder if Darlene and Betty decided to hit the road. I'm thinking since we haven't heard from them that they did.

Had a fun day out with Bertie today. We got our nails done and had lunch at Olive Garden, stopped at Sam's Club, picked up her repaired diamond ring and stopped at Trophy nuts so I could get some more nuts for candy making. Then home for a drink and Christmas exchange. She just left. It was a fun, fun day.

Lyndonville, NY

Joyce, that does sound like a fun day. I went grocery shopping and took myself to McDonald's after realizing I hadn't eaten all day at 2:00.

Starting to wrap gifts and get organized, which is a major feat for me...I don't organize well. lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, Luna has been sick with diarea and vomiting. I took her to the vet today to get her shots and a check up. We found out she has hookworms, heart worms, and tick fever. She is on several meds and anti biotics for a month.,the vet said she is pretty sick, and we are going to see if the meds work. If not they have to give her a series of shots, that cost almost $600.00! We are all pretty sad because she is sick, but more mad because who ever had her before did not take care her very well!
Glad to hear youu had a nice day Joyce.
Debbie, sounds like your getting in the Christmas mood?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waving all, be back in a bit, just got in hotel, going to pick up Arby's..did hit snow, slowed us, by the time we got a bit near you Joyce it was late and we worried we might hit more, promise, coming for coff when I drive back

We are in Corbin, Kentucky, 25 miles from Tennessee border, hopefully out of storms reach

Just wanted to let you know we are fine, kitties like to travel..I'm tired, drove the distance myself and some white knuckle miles..glad its behind us

After I eat and bathe, hoping to come back, start new thread and read posts..

Ouch LindaKay, poor Luna, glad she got a good home now
