The amaryllis that my hubby got me is starting to open, hopefully you can tell by this picture.
Amaryllis
O yes, saw the stalk early on was budding. That is exciting
This is not the one that had the spots on it, I got rid of that one it was too far gone and I did not want to infect the others. Here is another updated photo of my blooming amaryllis, I do believe it is going to be Red Lion like it says on the box, I realize sometimes what is in the box is not necessarily what the bulb is.
A beautiful amaryllis,
This is the Frosty Fern that my hubby got me the other day, I did not think it would like the conditions in our home, but after a application of Miracle-Gro and water it has perked up quite a bit. Here is the Amaryllis too, even as the bloom is starting to wither, it is still quite striking. And also the Paperwhites are doing quite good too.
Boo Hoo, my amaryllis blooms are fading! I know that it is supposed to, but sometimes it makes me sad, they are so beautiful and last so long and are so big. But I am going to try things a little different this next spring and maybe I can get it to bloom next winter. The one from last year is growing some long leaves!
WooHoo! Another Amaryllis from last year is growing also, I am not sure whether it is a scape or leaves, upon further examination I am pretty sure it is a SCAPE!!! I also am going to put the other two back in the light and water it and see if they do the same thing. It does not matter that they did not grow and bloom for Christmas, any time they do will be just fine with me! If you look hard enough you can see the new growth.
It is not a scape, it is leaves. I had someone tell me that the leaves were not getting enough light, but I don't know where else to put them. I could put them on the table in front of the window, but I have to figure out to stake them up better. I have a thermometer in the window to see how cold it is there, if not too cold, I may find some way to put them in there, they would get the sunshine for part of the day. I also have a baby amaryllis, I did not think it was doing anything, so I lifted it out to see if it was rotted. No, it is not rotted, in fact it has two nice white roots growing on each side of it so I put it back in and covered the roots up again.
I read that if they grow leaves and no scapes that they won't bloom this year, is that true? I have 4 amaryllis that are growing leaves but no sign of scapes. How do you treat the leaves, if I just leave them on the plant and put them outdoors when the temps get warm and stay warm. I also thought that I would let them bloom whenever they feel like it and not put them in a official dormant period. Do you think they will bloom next year or maybe later this year?
For Lycoris its true, maybe for Naked Ladies as well. But for crinums you cant count on that, sometimes mine bloom twice a yyear, sometimes once, but my leaves are always growing til cold snap, then return in the Spring. Blooms happen anywhere thru the rest of the year.
I decided to put one of my amaryllis plants in the picture window, I hope it will be alright, the days are going to be in the 30's and 40's and the nights in the teens and 20's. Nothing of the plant is touching the glass which is probably cold, I also have a cactus in there too. Do you think it will be alright to leave them there? It is the one that has the stalk and a couple of leaves, the stalk is on one side and the leaves on the other side.
I put two bulbs away for awhile and one has started to sprout already, so I repotted it. I gave it a little Miracle Grow and are trying to be patient. There are 3 others that are actively growing leaves but no flowers, what do I do with them?
