Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning. Good thoughts to you all. We all have much to be thankful for , not just today, but everyday. A big Thankyou and a hug to all our service men and women around the world. Hugs to all the good folks I am privileged to call friends and to all the ones I have yet to meet.

Prayers for Peace, Understanding, open Hearts and minds for us and the world we live in.

Barb, hugs and the best thoughts to you and Norm. Hope to see smiles all around.

Mary, yes you can used canned pears.....the form does not matter...it is the flavor that adds that special touch.

Susan, yes, you can use any fruit in this recipe. That is why I like it so much, very versatile. It can be so empowering to step from behind preconceived notions.

A Joyous Day to you all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Printing off your recipe Jean..going to try it this weekend..

Just had the funniest telephone call,

I've been trying to find out what to buy Jeff for Christmas, get the 'nothing I really want or need' so he just calls to say he has a meeting tonight, do I mind not meeting up, yep, great because now I can go buy rough cut wood and finish my cutting..he says 'found something that you can get me for Christmas, I'll order on-line, get it, wrap it up for you" I said, 'so what will it be, nope, I'll wrap it, and you can be surprised'....lol

too funny, isn't he who should be surprised, not be the 'giver'???

Also, he said Braedon is heavy into the trumpet, extra lessons and all so Jeff will pick a 'Silent Brass' guess he can practice and nobody will hear the sounds..

One left..Caleb..

Well at least someone will be surprised Christmas morning....GRIN

Victoria Harbour, ON

Is the weather Jean co-operating for this special day?

Its absolutely gorgeous out..went shopping at lunch, was able to get the cutest baby jacket and pants..another off my list.

Having family dinner on Dec.16th so will get everything wrapped and spend Dec. 15th visiting for a few minutes and dropping off gifts.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is a beautiful day here in Texas, about 81 right now.
Guess that makes your shopping easy to do, if they do it themselves!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

lol too funny, Betty - YOU will be surprised lol

Happy Thanksgiving to all my 'Merican friends!!

Lyndonville, NY

It is almost 60 here. DH went out and hung the icicle lights and I put the ribbons on the porch posts...have to find my bows.

Dinner is at 4:30, so have to get moving.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Verona, ON

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I swear this morning when I was outside I could smell turkeys cooking - the delicious smell was wafting up from the south.

Yes LK wood is our primary source of heat. It truly is a life style and not meant for everyone. I do have oil in the house and use it for the infloor heating and my hot water. We only have our tank filled a couple of times a year so oil is not a huge expense.

Love the idea of the Christmas surprise Betty. I did that once with Warren years ago - we lived in Oshawa then so it must be 40 years ago.It drove him nuts that he didn't know what he had bought me.

Holding you and Norm close to my heart Barb.

Thank you all my friends.
We just got home from dinner at Stacy's(my daughter). And she is grinning from ear to ear because SHE MADE THE GRAVY!!!! I've been trying for years to teach her and I kept tellling her how easy it was but she was always afraid she would ruin dinner because to her the gravy makes the meal... It was delicious and now she is just crowing. So now all I need to do for family dinners is show up and eat!!! Ahhh, the privileges of age!!!!

I just love that picture!

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all,

Oh Bev, so glad to see you post..it's been awhile since you've popped in for a visit. Am hoping you and the family are doing ok. How has Scotty been? As always, your photo's are a joy to look at..was this little critter in your yard? DO know he has a lot of corn fields to snack on...

Debbie, myou finished supper? Must ask you, place in Orth Dakota sells army bunny boots, not sure what they charge to post my side of the order..if the don't or it's too expensive can I have them shipped to you ??

Ahhh Barb, mknow that Stacy has perfected art of making gravy she will be making gravy to go along with everything. We bought container of mixture to make gravy, just add water, Lordy, best gravy I ever ate..almost worth a trip to go back to Frankenmuth to get more. Dropped not the post OfficeMax got your envelop..tks

Poutting, no turkey or treats!! Already in bed, no supper! Does UPS deliver food?

Greg dropped in with my wood, told him he was a good boy looking after his mommy like that..

Guys at tmbrrMart asked what I was making this year, told him how excited they get because I give them one to draw amongst the staff each year..lol. Greg said he had no idea just told he had to pickup the wood.

Rogers tv isn't working tonight except for bedroom and downstairs so figured I migh as well get comfy, have a good night's rest and get up extra early and finish cutting.

Verona, ON

Mary I forgot to mnetion that he med for Quill is called Dasuquin and has consequin in it. Sure it helps perk the old gal up. She is such a sweetheart and stubborn too. She won't stay at home when I walk Diesel the extra he needs. She might be 40 - 50 paces behind us but she is coming. Gotta admire her spirit.

You all had my mouth watering for turkey so I seetled for second best - ham. Found some sliced ham in the freezer so that was a nice treat. Still miss the turkey though.

Hurrah for Stacy!!! Making gravy was always my biggest fear too. I don't eat it and Warren liked it more like au jus and my family had it thick, really thick - I was so confuseed it was easier just not to make it. Like Betty I found an outstanding mix which put a smile back on my guy's face. People couldn't even tell - it reminds me of the TV ad you see this time of year when a nosey relative comes in to the kitchen to see what's cooking and says to the gal "Oh you don't make it from scratch?" My darling DBIL was so excited the first time I made this gravy when he came for dinner he picked me up and hugged me.

Absolutely stellar day here too Betty. Sounds like we are in for a big change temp wise though come late tomorrow. Darn! I was so enjoying what we have been experiencing.

Betty I don't know about UPS delivering dinner, I am still waiting for the delivery I was supposed to get today. I hope the guy didn't stick it in my mailbox which is at the end of our lane - about 1 mi from the house. The late afternoon guy doesn't like coming down our lane in the dark or for that matter in the winter. The other UPS drivers are excellent so I won't complain about just one. I tracked the parcel on Amazon and it says it is still out for delivery. Was looking forward to that book to read tonight - it is the latest Stephanie Plum novel and I could sure use the giggles.

Not sure I will get back so sweet dreams everyone!

Jean, thanks you so much for the recipe. Sounds wonderful but then anything with pears is wonderful to me. I, indeed, will be trying it very soon.

Hope everyone had a wonderful day today. Kim and I sure did. Shared our meal with my son and his family plus my DIL's brother. Lots of very good food, laughter and loving from my GDs!! What more could one ask for.

Barb, to funny about the gravy. I am going to try to teach my DIL how to make gravy and roast a turkey. She is a very good cook but for some reason doesn't have confidence in herself with those items........gonna change that!!!!

Hello To All !

I am SO Thankful to have all my DG Friends...

And SO Lovely to see the "Sometimers" post today... just lovely lovely to hear from you all....

(HUGS) Suse ! what are you reading?
Judy - you can NOT just tell us you have a baby and not post the details! Stats please !

Ah Barb & Marion - you can now teach me how to master Gravy ! I LOVE IT ! I am hoping by next year I'll have mastered the Art of the Apple Pie (THANK YOU DIANNE!) everyone LOVED it ! just need it to be a bit purdier next time...
and Moon ... will def try the pear bread pudding !

Remember my little Opey was on Cosequin Dianne and the gal at the vet's office told me she was taking it too ! Maybe need to pick up for DH. I can just picture Quill plodding along... won't be left behind. HUGS Quill !

DSD19 came in last night. DSD20 met us at MIL's today. Tonight...All decorated the tree with DS GF (whom I adore) and DSD20's bf of LAST year... he's a bit immature but we like him.

Was completely able to bite my tongue when necessary and take some time outs. But Made it through today !

I will say this... being positive. All those days I helped MIL in the kitchen alone. BOTH DSD's offered to, AND HELPED today in some way... first time. very nice.

Hugs
Mary

Hi back Mary! Not reading anything at the minute. Any good suggestions?

Dianne, Moses is on Glucosamine, and I hope it will keep him from having problems as he ages. If your Diesel isn't on it yet, go ahead and start him on it if you can. :-)

Judy, I agree ... we need more baby info!

Linda, I've neglected to say it, but your Dad has been in my prayers.

Dianne, also wanted to tell you that I've had trouble with the dizzies also and this is what they found and did. I know it sounds sorta weird, but ask your DR. I saw Sandy on the "Pet" forum talking about it also, I think ...

The dizzy problem you have may be associated with a condition called "benign parox- ~ ysmal positional vertigo", also known as BPPV. The condition is thought
to be caused by loose particles (called canaliths) in the balance portion of the inner ear which have moved to an area in which they are not normally found.
Certain head/body motions can cause these particles to move causing a perception of dizziness.

The purpose of the canalith repositioning procedure is to move the particles back to their proper place in the inner ear and relieve the problem that is
causing your dizziness. It may take more than one session to achieve these results.

-    x

To maximize the chance for this procedure to be successful, follow the instructions below for the next seven days.

1. For the next two days and nights, keep your head up at 30 to 45 degrees. A soft collar neck brace will help ensure limited movement of the neck and
will make the instructions easier to follow. If you do not wear the neck brace while sleeping, devise a support for your head by pinning two pillows next
to your head to keep from turning your head. To sleep, you might sit in a recliner chair, but do not lie all the way back, just far enough to support your
head.

2. For the next seven days following the procedure, do not tilt your head up or down; keep it level. Raise your feet to tie shoes. If you must pic up something
from a low level, keep your head level and bend your knees to reach the object. Move your head, neck, and shoulders as a unit. *

After one week, you may return to your usual routine.

I had to have 2 sessions of the canalith repositioning procedure. Some people have to have more. I've done very well ever since. I have to say it was like trying to walk on water and feeling like I was going to fall backward. I didn't feel safe enough to even work Moses. I'm all better now!!

Shannon got home safely at 8:00 a.m. and is totally zonked out. She has to leave here at 2:00 and go back to work til Midnight tonight.
The good thing is Target is having meals catered in for all these kids who work from last night through Monday....because they have limited breaks

Judy, great pictures! Adorable little girls! Our youngest in the family is 14 months great nephew. But never get to see him much. I miss having babies around!!!

Sounds like you have all been so busy. Glad you enjoyed your book!! I have it on my Nook, but haven't read it yet. Maybe will do that on the plane next week!! Will help with my panic attacks flying.

OK, heading out shortly for coffee pot shopping. LOL

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

ok - somewhat excited, but reining it in.......
Both Bob & I are starting Temporary jobs on Monday. We found out yesterday when he went to an interview with a gov't office who place people in "training" programs doing painting & construction.
They were going to involve ME in this, until they realized I was registered with their Champions program for disabled peoples........ Anyway, he'll make minimum wage until he can find a perm position.
I got a call from an Employment Agency and the company wants someone from Monday until Dec 28th. It MAY Potentially become perm, but I'm not getting all excited about that possibility.
It IS employment for both of us, and $$ coming in for now, and I'm very happy about that.

s'funny that we both get jobs that start on Monday, eh? LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great news Susan, something to look forward to..why are you in the disabled ??? category...

Judy, ohhhh just want to pinch some cheeks..ok, Steve's cheeks might get sore but what to heck..kidding of course..what an adorable baby...I'm like Debbie, no small babies in my family, Suzanne has a 4 month old grandaughter but I don't go near..as you may remember I'm NOT a baby person but let them come over when they can talk my ear off and do crafts/gardening with me and I'll keep them for the weekend.

Debbie, you are flying?? lordy, we are going to start calling you our world traveller if you keep this up..when do you leave and for how long??? tell us/tell us

Debbie it's thick rain out there, glad I'm inside..did cook up potato soup and see it's noon, think it's break time..been working hard, one cup of coffee and no toast..tummy is saying it's hungry

got body/signs/gloves/hat brim parts stained and now I have to sand down the stars, would should have been a little thinner, will have to talk to boys at Tmbrr Mart lol so sanding it will be once of course my shift ends at 3:00..only because when the sander is on I can't hear a darn thing..then comes the clean-up

still think you should be hear helping me clean Mary, after all it's for some of these girls doing the workshop!!!!

Judy, she is so precious!

Betty, you have been working hard, look at all that wood!

Susan, congrats on the jobs!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have been LindaKay, need a nap.

Wow talk about windy, howling like crazy, Debbie is right, could possibly get snow!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I'm disabled, because I'm epileptic. It's low grade but as it's there, I'm still eligible for that consideration as being medically disabled.
When I have seizures they are serious, but may go 3 years between. I know that I've had seizures during the time we've known each other, just don't mention it......... Heavy stress will bring them on......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Didn't know that Susan, glad its under control..

DIL just called, was shopping, wanted to know if I needed anything, yep, gave her a list. Saves me a trip..

Was actually thinking seeing as I'm officially finished at 3:00 pm that I'd take a nice hot bath and get into Jammie's..you must all think that is what I live in..Lol

Rogers came, nice young man named Jim, they gave me hours between 11am -2:00pm and he called at 10:15..changed a relay and now I have tv again..

Just remembered, can't find one of my brad nailer guns, cleaned the other, not sure why it wasn't working but just remembered I need it..sometimes compressors drown, have to open valve and drain..not strong enough..put in call to my Greg, he sure must get tired seeing mom's name on the telephone pop up

He's out of town right now, will call in later..might give it a try myself and if I can't fix then I shall have to be patient..likely glue gun would work

Have you all been resting after your big feast..

Off to read and take in Suse's post while I'm still half with it.

Verona, ON

Darn, just lost a long post. I know better but did it stop me from scrolling back up and looking at Judy's pics. Oh no! and Poof!! Great photo of Steve and the baby.

Very windy here too. Not only looks like snow but feels like it too. The temp has really dropped today. Thhis morning I was outside in my bare feet but sure wouldn't go out now. Rain has stopped though.

Interesting reading Suse. I had fogotten Sandy had that problem. I am wondering if something has came back or has just come to the forefront again. Back in 2009 I was seeing an ENT about an ear problem when he found my pit tumour. Anything that was to do with the ear got but aside and forgotten about. When I mentioned this to my GP she just shrugged her shoulders.

Debbie it is a good thing Shannon was well fed before she went off for her marathon work sessions. Glad her employer is taking care of their meals whilel these kids are working so hard. Sweet about Shane wanting to take care of Karen.

Back later as long as we have hydro. When it is windy like this we often lose our power for a few hours.

My poor hubby got his first taste of black Friday. LOL We went out to get a new coffee pot, Kohl's had a great sale going and I had discount coupons and "Kohl's cash" and off we went.

Well... we pull into Kohls, and found a spot right away. We walk in and round the corner to the left, there at the register...the line started, wrapped around down the front of the building...down the isle down past luggage & shoes...circled around again...and down past bedding. Had to be 200 or more in that line! AND...on the other side of the store...second set of registers had same thing going in the opposite direction. We walked through, looked...and LEFT. Went to Walmart, found almost exactly same thing...and were out within 15 minutes. NO waiting at the counter either!

Betty, I am leaving Thursday morning for Florida. My Aunt has been very sick, going through chemo and is flying down to see her grandson (My cousins boy) get married. We had an invite to the wedding and Paul is insisting I go. Anyway, going to meet up with family and a friend or two. Will be flying back here on December 5th.

Debbie

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I've had it since I was 12 years old.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Could cry, lost my novel..will have to wait till morning

Talked about Paul, likely never wanting to go again on black Friday, sales this side of the border

Your trip Debbie,
Weather Dianne
Your job Susan and health issues

Should head to bed but Kyle's jeep broke down, he and Noah needed to go out, Friday night you know, Greg and Mel shopping in Barrie so grandma said take my car..now I had better stay up until he safely returns

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

health issues for me are "old hat". I scarcely consider it anymore, except when I have to take my meds, or see the Dr.
But..... the gov't considers it, so if it helps me get a job, believe me - gov't programs are there for a reason (my tax $$ pay for them) - so I don't worry about using them. Just will never abuse the system......

Baton Rouge, LA

Oh Judy ! Wonderful pics... Thanks for the Baby info...
Betty - What a great grandma letting the boys out in your car... You'll be up for a while then I suppose. You've worked hard today cutting out all those projects. I deep cleaned the Laundry room... SO much dust no wonder I was sick & coughing for years but it's gone now...

Debbie ! YAY flying to Florida ! Will you get to see a beach? Where will you be headed ?
So funny I "found" a coffee pot today, and yours goes out. All those days in the laundry room and never noticed hubby put one way up on a top shelf... probably found in an auction and saving for the kids....
Susan CONGRATS ! on your new job ! (HUGS) yes what a coincidence Hubs got one too but that's just great. Yes you should take advantage of what is offered.

I'll pop back in a bit... got some mail to read (HUGS)
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Greg called earlier, he is off somewhere tomorrow and Melanie driving to Meaford for her adoptive sisters baby shower, the twins so wondered if I was staying home could Kyle keep my car for tonight and tomorrow?? Knew Melanie was going to drop off a few things on her way from shopping so came to bed, just fell asleep. When she came in.oh oh, snowing and blowing, not nice..better not worry..

Suzanne said that she feels doom and gloom, mom died, then mom's sister last week and things come in three's. .. Things come in 3's, telling myself not to be silly and go back to sleep.

Mary, maybe you are allergic to dust..for you to be coughing less could be a coincidence but if you keep well then you know dusting every day is a must..guess you get get an air purifyer which would help

Dianne, Debbie, you getting this storm?

Baton Rouge, LA

You hit the nail on the head Betty... Yes during Whooping cough episode had allergies tested: 2 things; cats and Dust. Can't get rid of the cat that's for sure !

I know the "things come in threes..." deal... but don't let it worry you... the third thing might be minor like a flat tire... or just superstition ! Goodness Suzanne has been through so much lately... she just needs some control over herlife... a schedule or something....
